Schools are returning, most holidays are over and Autumn is fast approaching; A perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. There is definitely a cool nip in the air!

Another new month to initiate a fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 3lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average a 1lb per week you’ll be at least a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

Ahh @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots reading that cheered me up after a grumpy morning. DS (26m) and I both out of sorts and an empty stomach not helping the situation.

The sweetcorn and pepper soup sounds good. Do you have a link to the recipe? I'm on pea, spinach and broccoli soup here... just had a bowlful, but no bread as I'm meeting my friend later at a cafe and would like a scone.

We had some crazy torrential rain here. It hasn't been that hot (on the coast), but there was a huuuuge thunderstorm with flash flooding.

JustACountryMusicLoverInCowboyBoots · 11/09/2023 12:50

Sunshine Soup | Nigella's Recipes www.nigella.com/recipes/sunshine-soup

I add a little chilli too. It remind me of Covent Garden's sweetcorn chowder. It's really tasty and easy to make with minimal ingredients. Of course my children don't like it 🙄

I've had my usual yogurt, compote, chia, honey combo and a big glass of iced water for lunch. Breakfast was porridge. Dinner will be the soup.

WeirdPookah · 11/09/2023 13:02

I defrosted our chest freezer Sunday, my children had fun when I threw the ice chunks at them in the garden! I use my wet-vac to clean it out fast.

But that meant for lunch we ate a bunch of weird odds and ends, talk about fusion food lol.

Batch cooked some vegetarian chili and parched pigeon peas today, getting ready for a veggie-sausage, country soup mix stew in slow cooker tomorrow. Need a proper walk tomorrow as well, just going on short one at pick up time.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Steamed veg, tofu
D: Veggie burger in sandwich thin, salad

LemonDrizzle23 · 11/09/2023 15:01

Definitely appreciating the cooler weather here too! No appreciating my period over the last few days. I very rarely have one being on the mini pill and I just feel so bloated! I'm ignoring the scales til Wednesday!

My plans for this week are:

  • focus on protein
  • no sharing sized bags / bars of anything
  • 2 x swimming sessions
  • 2 x indoor bike sessions
OrangeSpicedBun · 11/09/2023 15:46

I've got loads of Broccolli to use up and some mangetout...any chance of a recipe/method?

OrangeSpicedBun · 11/09/2023 15:49

I've got a couple of long walks in on the weekend in the evening so feel this week starting well.

Not so enamoured with the slim/thin people thread that was trending this morning. The language some posters were using to talk about non-thin/slim people was quite frankly depressing and put me in a bad mood lol.

JustACountryMusicLoverInCowboyBoots · 11/09/2023 17:58

What thread was thetb@OrangeSpicedBun?

I'm full of cherry and damson crumble and custard 🥰 it's in my calorie allowance. Just!

OrangeSpicedBun · 11/09/2023 19:54

Ooh sounds very autumnal ! @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots

It was a thread in 'chat' trending this morning.

Good Morning Lovelies

Back from a fabulous holiday which was centred around pottering on the beach, a couple of sea swims and delicious food in pubs, bistros and restaurants. (Put on half a pound so not overboard) Did have a couple of days laid up due to back issues but made the most of it when I could.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom Omelette. Tomato soup.
Meal 2 - Sea bass, new potatoes, carrots, peas & broccoli. Home made flap-jack and Greek yoghurt.
Tea, black coffee and water.

It’s been a busy thread! I will endeavour to read up later! Sending positive vibes to you all ❤️

Thank you @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots I will give that a go!

@OrangeSpicedBun I make a broccoli, pea and spinach soup which is very nice, the recipe is me just flinging things into the pot, but I could describe it if you want?

TheRealHousewife · 12/09/2023 08:27

I was reading a piece in the Times about weight etc. It mentioned the Smart BMI Calculator, which I wasn’t aware of. It takes into account other factors such as age and gender. It puts me in the green zone. Nonetheless I’m still working towards getting into the ‘8’s’ 😬

Morning all I am well and truly stuck..not sure if it's hormones but just plateauing. Feel so heavy, only eating two meals a day, cut out bread and don't eat pasta, no snacking between meals and exercising every day and still not losing weight 🤷‍♀️ Am at least 2st over what I should be.

Anyhoo...Had one of those Bol pots yesterday, pricey but very filling if anyone looking for a quick lunch option

JustACountryMusicLoverInCowboyBoots · 12/09/2023 10:00

@TheRealHousewife the NHS BMI calculator gives me the same results but accounts for sex, age and ethnicity with the ethnicity having lots of options whereas the smart bmi doesn't. It doesn't show where you are in a nice colourful graph though but in a linear graphic. I'm sure lots of people will still argue that bmi isn't accurate despite them not being Olympic athletes or weightlifters.

TheRealHousewife · 12/09/2023 10:06

Welcome to the thread @2Early4Breakfast @Kazziek & @ColdPillow

@ColdPillow Sending condolences; losing a pregnancy is heart breaking 💔

@DearRose Thank you! My back is not as painful today. We’d love to live by the sea too and hopefully it will become reality once my other half retires 🙏 Congratulations on your new job 🥳👏👍Re:- Alcohol, I’ve developed a natural aversion to it as I’ve got older 🤷‍♀️ The anticipation of a ‘nice drink’ is generally better than the event for me.

@JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots Well done on getting back in a routine and bossing the scales! 👌

@wannadisc0 Hows the throat? Hope you’re feeling better!

@NothingTraLaLa Loving your Zoe updates! Imagining a mini TS throwing a side eye 😅

Well done on everyone’s losses. Great stuff! For those who’ve STS or gained slightly, try not to be had on yourselves. It’ll happen 🤞

Today’s very wet and cooler weather is such a contrast to yesterdays very hot and sunny day🥵 Bonkers.

WeirdPookah · 12/09/2023 10:33

I am pleased the weather has turned, but it is still horribly humid.

Feeling productive though, made a batch of date/banana muffins for my girls' breakfasts, got a county soup mix sausage stew in slow cooker, batch cooking rice and some white urid dal to add to another soup!

Been for walk to the shops to see if I could get frozen leeks, but I think my closest Sainsbury is too small to stock them annoyingly. They work great in slow cooker. Did get first brussel sprouts of the autumn!

B: Black bean burrito
L: Cabbage and pierogi
D: veggie sausage, home made piccalilli, parched peas, cauli/potato mash

TheRealHousewife · 12/09/2023 11:32

Hi @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots Thanks for the sign post to NHS bmi calculator. I have used that one myself in the past. The only difference I can see is that yes the NHS one does have a great choice of ethnic variants, whereas the smart one generalises Asian. However the relevance is that people of Black/Asian background are at higher risk of type2 diabetes in bmi’s over 23. I think I like the smart one ( as a bit of fun) as it gives a greater allowance for being older. Us oldies need all the help we can get 😬

I got out into the garden today for some tidying and exercise. It's sunny, less muggy and a cooling breeze, so lovely for gentle movement.

Have had a little gallbladder pain building up over the past few days, and keeping an eye on fat. Adding more veg and mounds of salad.

TheRealHousewife · 12/09/2023 17:35

@2Early4Breakfast I agree the cooler temps are refreshing after the suppressing heat of the past week or so. Sorry to read you’re in pain. Hopefully it will soon subside!

Evening all

Feeling sluggish and hungry tonight, but trying to stave it off with extra water and a cuppa tonight. Kitchen clean and closed, too!

Been busy, but managed ok choices:

(Early, again) lunch - 2x bacon, 1 x egg, handful of mushroom and 1/2 a big tomato all cooked in a teaspoon of olive oil, with a small dollop of ketchup
Dinner - jacket potato, beans, cheese, and a large green and cherry tomato salad with some dressing
Snack - small slice of a potato/cheese/ham cake thing that one of the chefs had whipped up at work, with a teaspoon of piccalilli (which I normally hate, but was actually v nice!)

Trying to put together a clothes order for me and the kids for our upcoming holiday at the end of the month. Feels counter-intuitive to be buying summer clothes at this stage of the year, but I guess it means I'll have some new-ish pieces for next year. Anything to distract myself from the fridge 😂

HollyGolightly4 · 12/09/2023 20:52

I've weighed in today and I'm ok with it. (As in, because it's the end of summer, not because I'm happy with my weight 🤣)

I'm on 14 stone (I know it's shocking) but I lost a stone and a half before summer. I'm calorie counting with the aim of 1200. If I go a bit over that, it doesn't matter, but it keeps me a lot more mindful than if I had a goal of 1800.

Going to the supermarket tomorrow. Has anyone any delicious soup ideas. I've bookmarked Nigella's summer soup up thread!

Well done everyone, you've all been so supportive.

JustACountryMusicLoverInCowboyBoots · 12/09/2023 23:33

Water has been poor today but I'll make sure to do better tomorrow. 11 miles walked. Calorie allowance adhered to. Last of the crumble eaten. No eating after dinner stuck to. The crumble might not be conducive to a good weigh in tomorrow though but I'll be brave.
I've a day of gardening ahead of me tomorrow and lots of walking so a nice active day. It's supposed to be sunny too. It's rained most of the day here but it's been so nice to not be hot and sweaty all the time. I love the cool, crisp yet sunny days of autumn.
What's this about sprouts? I have one at Christmas to be festive but otherwise no. I'm not a fan of green leafy things but I have put sprouts in soup before and it's been ok. It was left over Christmas dinner veg all blended up and the children liked it. Those were the days.
Speaking of Christmas does anyone have a weight goal for Christmas? I'm not sure I do. I don't go to any parties or anything so I don't need to look nice for anything where I'd be judged and judge myself which is a no us. Just maintaining around 54.5kg will be great once I get back there. I'm not far off really. Depending on the crumble effect 😬

Gallbladder pain sounds horrendous-hope you feel better soon!

Not entirely convinced I've lost a kilo in a week, perhaps my scales are having a moment! Still, it's moved downwards so I'm happy! Trying to keep to the same breakfast and lunch on weekdays - porridge with peanut butter, and a ham salad. Dinner is some kind of protein - chicken, steak, lamb etc with veg. I also have some fruit, and a couple of biscuits every day! Treated myself at the weekend to a decent slice of cheesecake 😁
And I've been able to get to the gym, get some decent sleep and drink plenty of water!
Well done to everyone!!

I've just tried the smart bmi calculator too. It tells me that loosing weight would add no benefit to my health. Still nice to see myself in the green zone. Weight has gone up and back down again to starting level over last week.
