Schools are returning, most holidays are over and Autumn is fast approaching; A perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. There is definitely a cool nip in the air!

Another new month to initiate a fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 3lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average a 1lb per week you’ll be at least a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

Hi all, lovely to see all the great results this week. I have not weighed this week as have AF and I feel bloated and huge. Think I am still hovering at around 56 kgs though.
really going to try to see 55 on the scale next week
have a great weekend everyone

sayhellototheworld · 22/09/2023 21:11

@DomesticElf exactly the reason why I don't bake at home. I always end up eating too much. And we all will be baking very time soon 😂We're not going for Christmas anywhere (our family is abroad, me and my husband aren't originally from the UK) so hopefully we won't go too crazy and I won't put on weight. I'd rather make memories with my baby 😊
@WeirdPookah sounds nice, I should try your recipe too.

Congratulations on good results, everyone! I my weight shifted a bit too.

SW: 63.5kg
CW: 62.2kg
G: 55kg

I didn't do any exercise in the past 3 days, but I was walking quite a lot and baby keeps me on my toes, all of the sudden he dropped his daytime naps and we're trying to work it out how to "fix" him.

DomesticElf · 23/09/2023 09:57

Speaking of clothes being a big motivator.
I got a pair of mom jeans and some leggings to replace my maternity wear from my usual go to place (Love Leggings). Went 2 sizes bigger than my normal pre pregnancy size, and I can't even close the jeans! It was like a kick in the teeth. I can get leggings on fairly comfortably, but I do look a bit like a haggis. Urgh. Need to try harder with this weight loss thing.

Stopwhine · 23/09/2023 10:04

Following! Started calorie counting 2 weeks ago and have amazingly stuck pretty well to it after lots of going back and forth over summer. Didn't weigh myself at the time due to fear so have no idea if it's making a difference to my weight. Anyway, weighed myself today and after feeling a little sad about that number on the scales, it's good to face up to it and I now know what I'm up against 😊 no deprivation over here - just trying to stay under 1800 cals a day for now.

wiltingflower · 23/09/2023 10:35

Work has been busy this week! I missed WoW but have been recording my weight daily apart from around 5 days where I forgot/too busy/in a rush/guilt over eating out with family/friends. This means my actual WoW- no idea- but the next day (Thursday) and today it's 57.5kg. I'm generally fluctuating every day, plus or minus 1kg based on what I've eaten but I can see the scale numbers are changing.

I'm getting closer to the weight I was around June/July 2022- 56kg- the smallest I've ever weighed as an adult but this was also an unhealthy time for me due to severe depression.

Lots of wins since the start of the month. My eating habits are definitely healthier. I can recognise when to stop eating and generally do. I have a better awareness of nutritional value (calories but also proteins, fats, vitamins etc). I eat far more fruits and vegetables. I'm not stopping myself from eating what I want, if there's a craving I have it but in much smaller amounts. I have so much more knowledge about nutrition/ fitness/ health, and compassion for other people on their journey's through this and reading about their experiences. This thread, the Weight loss section and Reddit has been powerful for this.

I have mixed feelings about my current weight. I'm happy to be there because I needed to lower my BMI to lower my risk of diabetes and high cholesterol which runs in the family. I'm also sad for who I was before, especially me as a child. I remember being 11 and 58kg. I've always been overweight as a child, not enough exercise due to not being allowed to go outside/clubs due to parents work and time and finances and being used for childcare and also because by secondary school I was so dedicated to studying and doing my best at school which I definitely don't regret. I remember being over fed and forced to finish portions and have desserts and snacks all the time with my family. I can now see how unhealthy my diet was before, how unhealthy my family's diet still is.

Being relatively older now at 29 and feeling able to say no to matching their intake is liberating but it is sad that it's taken this long to feel able to have those boundaries with family in the first place, how scary it was to do it and how scary it is to try and maintain those boundaries.

sayhellototheworld · 23/09/2023 16:59

@DomesticElf (sorry for referring to your posts all the time, I think it's because we're at the same stage of life aka postpartum😂). I thought of buying some temporary jeans on vinted, because I can't fit any of mine too (even relaxed fit which I was expecting to at least be skinny with my current body LOL), but I think I will just suck it up and wear joggers for now. I feel rubbish though, I'm so bored of the way I look, same clothes, roots and I don't know when I will go to hairdresser, otherwise my boobs will explode after 5 hours there). I fit my old tops luckily (not all of them, because of breastfeeding), so that's to break the boredom, but honestly I can't be bothered making an effort with clothes now, because I feel like whatever I wear, I still won't be happy because of weight, so I agree that old clothes are great motivation. I hope I can fit my shorts nicely next summer.

@wiltingflower 💐I wasn't overweight as child, but too big portions were a thing in my house. My sister was overweight child and is overweight adult, I remember all the situations like my mum got angry with her because she didn't fit the prom dress my mum liked etc. It's so horrible, it's been years ago and I still feel sad about it, so is my sister. Needless to say our relationship with mum isn't great. Whose fault was it if not my parents', they were feeding us and it was their choice to buy biscuits, chocolates etc. and allow us to eat them without portion control. I'm only lucky because I'm naturally petite, but I need to watch what I eat very carefully and it's still tough to be around my mum and not feeling judged, almost like she's insecure that someone is putting effort in the way they look and I know that deep down she's just unhappy with her looks.

I am feeding the baby now, so I will write another post later, but I need your POV or advice on something (not diet etc. related).

DomesticElf · 23/09/2023 18:19

@sayhellototheworld I took my 7 week old to the hair salon for cut and colour (for me, not the baby 😬) 2 days ago. It worked fine, I had to hold him all the time as he is a velcro baby, but otherwise you wouldn't even know he was there. With my first I went home hairdresser route. If your hairdresser is happy for you to bring your little one, just take him in.
It's nice to have someone at the same stage 😊

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/09/2023 07:21

How's everyone's weekend going?

I was tired after a long day yesterday, and so nearly popped to the coop for a share bag of salt and vinegar crisps and a pack of their blonde chocolate. But I resisted. Which is a massive win for me.

@sayhellototheworld and @DomesticElf Luxury athleisure is still very much on trend! There are loads of nice joggers out there which are much more forgiving than jeans post-partum. I hope you both find some that make you feel comfortable and stylish.

Bomblette · 24/09/2023 10:59

Well done @LemonDrizzle23 - resisting when you’re knackered is a real achievement. 💪

I'm just popping on to record a moment of smugness. The scales have been static this week, but my jeans are DEFINITELY looser. It’s really nice not to have that uncomfortable feeling of them digging in, so I just really wanted to celebrate this win!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/09/2023 13:54

I am around 1000 calories over my goal for the weekend and I'm never going to balance those out without starving myself over the next couple of days!

I'm annoyed with myself, but, I'm trying to remember that as well as still dealing with very raw grief, I currently have an injury that has had me stuck on the sofa a lot this weekend without being able to exercise.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 25/09/2023 07:03

Morning all. Here's to a great week for us all. The huge stress has now settled and I'm determined to be back on plan between now and Christmas with a few days off planned for 2 days in half term, Halloween, bonfire night and DD's birthday. Otherwise between now and the 22nd December it's ba k to strict and healthier. I've been doing lots of stress baking the last week. I'll leave it all now for the dc to eat except for my cookies as they are oats and fruit and co rain nothing ultra processed so I'm happy to eat a couple of those as a snack. The walking has been good with the lowest being 7.5 miles last Wednesday which was a day off due to feeling rough after having the covid and flu vaccines on Tuesday. The week rounds up to 53 miles of walking. I'm ok with that but could be better. Hanging around 56.5 on the scales.

Hope everyone is doing ok and is ready for the week. Let's do this!

LemonDrizzle23 · 25/09/2023 07:26

Thank you @Bomblette ! In the end, I decided to buy an individual packet yesterday instead, and had it has part of my calorie allowance. No 1000 calorie crisp and chocolate binge!

The weekend went well here. Although I think a poorly child might be about to scupper my exercise efforts this week 🧐

This week's focus:

  • Protein
  • 3 x swim and 1 x bike
  • No share bags / bars of anything
WeirdPookah · 25/09/2023 12:48

Weekend wasn't the greatest, fully acknowledging the lack of control leading to emotional eating. Doesn't help anything.

Today, had one of the limited edition black forest danish pastries from Lidl, but I have adjusted the rest of my plans for the day winding up at a predicted 1400 for the day which is fine even if not the best way to "spend" calories.

Been on a short walk down the prom, will get another short one whilst waiting for school pickup.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Peppers, tomatoes, eggs
D: Vegetable curry, cucumber, mango chutney

NothingTraLaLa · 25/09/2023 15:12

I’ve had a couple of three-course meals out in the last week, one with work and one with friends. Until recently I’d have decided to order whatever came with dauphinoise potatoes; this time I went for healthier options (veg, fish, fruit) and went easy on the bread basket and I feel much better for it. Actually one of the meals was a set menu so there was no scope to choose, but portions were small and slightly weird so I didn’t finish it all anyway.

Quite proud of myself for making healthy choices.

DomesticElf · 25/09/2023 20:45

I've been doing fairly well too, good food choices. I would be interested to see the number on the scales on Wednesday. This biscuit self deprivation better be bring results 🤣

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 25/09/2023 22:34

Day 1: so far so good. 10 miles walked. No eating after 6pm. Porridge and chia for breakfast. Vegetables at dinner. Lots of water. Shower and skincare regime by 7pm and some tv watching for some me time once ds was in bed. Food choices satisfactory.

DomesticElf · 26/09/2023 08:13

I didn't have patience for WoW, so here is my WOT:
SW: 70kg
CW: 65kg
GW: 50kg

So that's 1.5kg down from last week 💃
This thread is very helpful at keeping me on track! I might add some gentle strengthening exercises this week. As if running after a toddler, carrying bike/scooter/ball, with a baby strapped in a sling is not enough

HughCanoe · 26/09/2023 09:05

I'm formerly GreenMonty - late for WOW from last week.

Was 12st 10lbs
Now 12st 9lbs

Have not been watching my diet as was away on a break and then had guests so was eating lots of goodies.

So starting proper now!

Next mini aim is 12st 7lbs.

Will wow this week again tomorrow to catch up.

HughCanoe · 26/09/2023 09:24

Apologies that should read 12st 6lbs. Just weighed again.

HughCanoe · 26/09/2023 13:25

I have just swerved the biscuit tin - go me

DomesticElf · 26/09/2023 14:12

@HughCanoe whoop! That's a win 😁

DomesticElf · 26/09/2023 14:13

@HughCanoe whoop! That's a win 😁

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 26/09/2023 22:18

@HughCanoe fab win!

9.5 miles walked today so slacking a bit. Food has been not a lot due to feeling unwell with gynae/bowel pains. Porridge and chia for breakfast, chocolate for a snack and that's it but plenty of water. Porridge and chia are soaking for breakfast tomorrow.

Dreading wow tomorrow but good luck to you all!

DomesticElf · 27/09/2023 01:56

@JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots that's a lot of walking. Good luck for WoW!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 27/09/2023 06:26

@DomesticElf thanks but it didn't seem a lot compared to usual.

SW: 68.58kg

WOW: 56.15kg. A loss of 1kg. I'm happy with that.

TW: 54kg (achieved in June but the summer holidays happened).

Good luck to everyone wowing today. I hope your hard work pays off.
