Spring is right around the corner so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

I’m new to the group and new to mumsnet (although I’ve been a mum for 14yrs!).
Weighed myself today and my BMI has tipped over into the Obese category so I can’t ignore it anymore! 3st to lose.
looking forward to getting to know you all xxx

SingaporeSlinky · 14/03/2023 11:43

Welcome @Carolinedogwalker, Do you have a plan for how you’re going to lose the weight? Hope you find the group useful. A lot of us will be weighing in officially tomorrow for ‘Weigh On Wednesday’ but there’s no pressure to declare yours. Good luck.

Carolinedogwalker · 14/03/2023 13:29

Thank you for the welcome xx
I'm a dog Walker (hence the name) so exercise isn't the problem! Snacking is, so tracking on MyFitnessPal and no eating rubbish! X

GoldenFarfalle · 14/03/2023 16:36

Hey everyone. Wednesday weigh in.
SW 88.8kg
CW 78.7kg
TW 76 kg

Was apparently 78.0 a few days ago but my jeans waistband tells a different story to the scales today so I'llss on. It's still 0.7 kg down from last Wednesday.

Hideous week due to DD so my stress levels are through the roof. Really miserable.

Well done everyone for keeping going. Some really positive posts. Love this thread.

And gorgeous pup photo!

buzzofthebumblebee · 14/03/2023 21:45

Lovely pooch and a big welcome Caroline
Sorry to hear you're having a tough time with DD Weather. Sending you positive vibes. Being a mum is the toughest job in the world. You're doing great.
Hope you're having a better day / evening AutisticLego (but guessing not as you haven't checked in with your news like you normally do)
OK here. 5k run. Getting a bit bored of running now. Not long to go til my event. All your exercise sounds more fun than mine!
B - stewed apples & keffir yoghurt
L - veg soup (with chicken stock I made yesterday)
S - pate on oat crackers
D - chicken, roast veg, cauli & a small boiled potato
Not hopeful for WOW tmw but maintaining is good enough!
Sleep well everyone, & hope your DS gets better soon Lionnose. Hope I didn't jinx it !!!
Gin, Singapore, TheReal, Cloud, Pea, Bumble, MKD1, Ninja, Fara, Allthegood, Sanfran, Weather, Meno, Green, Autistic, Caroline, Brie, & EVERYONE ELSE (sorry if i've missed you off) - We've got this !!! You are ALL wonderful. We can do it. One day at a time. Sleep well.

Weatherwax13 · 15/03/2023 00:06

Thanks @buzzofthebumblebee its really tough atm. DD (adult) is very unwell but won't listen to us:(
When's your event? Will you cut back a bit on the running once you've done it?

Allthegoodnamestakken · 15/03/2023 06:26

Happy Wednesday everyone - 65.4kg today so still maintaining, aiming for a loss next week! Finally feeling a bit better mentally so have been upping my exercise. Aiming for 2 lots of cross fit this week, horse riding on Friday, dog walks at least every other day (they have a walker come for 2 hours mon-fri) and I might even try a run if my legs aren't to dead from cross fit.
@buzzofthebumblebee well done on your running, what event are you doing? I also find running a bit boring hence the crossfit but there really is no better cardio for me so I would like to run at least once a week.
Plan for today is:
Lunch - Eggs + Rice cakes
Snack - Apple and a little cheese
Dinner- Bolognaise with pasta (will weigh the pasta portion)

AutisticLegoLover · 15/03/2023 06:55

Morning all. 58.2kg here so looks like a dreaded plateau for me. The scales do briefly flick at a lower number so I'm hoping it won't be long before I kick the 58s and am in the 57s. I might switch to weighing in stones and pounds now that I'm at the low end of the 9stones and they don't seem scary anymore. 58.2kg is 9stone 2lb so I'm keeping under that original 9st 3lb goal. I weigh the same as when I was 29/30 and also 39/40.

@Weatherwax13 I read your thread and I am so sorry things are so tough. I have a Dd who is heading the same way in lots of ways. I hope SS prove helpful this time for you allFlowers
We are heading off to the big city today in search of bras and Lego. Lunch looks like a foodcourt lunch but I've told Dd I don't fancy a McDonald's. There's a hoodie bar they we both fancy trying and a Taco Bell. I didn't know we had Taco Bells here. Add bubble tea and/or a Frappuccino from Starbucks to that and today will be a write off for food. I'm starting it well with my usual porridge though and will probably have Greek yogurt and cherry compote for dinner tonight.

Welcome to the newcomers! I hope you find the thread supportive and helpful. I think it's the best one going on mumsnet. We all eat normal food but smaller portions alongside a healthier lifestyle and don't expect miracles or fast fixes and that's the key to success it seems.

Have a great day everyone and don't forget your water! I've not been good at remembering so I'm reminding myself too.

Ninjachicken · 15/03/2023 07:25

Morning all, so AF arrived this morning so didn’t dare weigh myself. But at least it explains why I have been so down and so very bloated recently.
thank you @buzzofthebumblebee loving the motivational encouragement 🤩
@Lionnose great recommendations, thank you . I actually have lessons in chemistry as my next listen as I bought it last time I was signed up to audible. I will definately check out the others.
hello @Carolinedogwalker love the pic. Named after Holt’s dog in Brooklyn 99? 😂
@AutisticLegoLover honestly I know it may feel like the weight is coming off slowly to you but when I see your steady losses I always think how brilliantly you are doing. So well done and just keep on keeping on !
@Allthegoodnamestakken i am pretty much hovering where you are weight wise. Really want to get to under 10 stone and then under 60 kilos. Don’t know why my goals are in different measurements 😁

@TheRealHousewife loving the sound of your meals! I had actually just ordered the fast 800 Mediterranean diet book when you mentioned it the other day. I liked the sound of the food
I have actually only lost a kilo a month since I started . I just feel like I need to follow a more structured plan for a while to get my head in the right space. Did you find it easy to follow?
Photo of my two rescues ❤️ have great day everyone

Hi all, sorry I went a bit awol! The past week or so has been a bit manic! Not officially Weigh in for me but keeping my fingers crossed that it seems to be heading in the right direction

@Carolinedogwalker dog walkers are fab! We would be lost without ours, cheddar looks so adorable!

Nothing thrillingly exciting to report from here, just busy in the mundane day to day stuff. Juggling work, snow days, child care and well just life really!

Plan for today is pretty standard
Cereal
Salad
Smoked salmon pasta.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 15/03/2023 08:00

@Carolinedogwalker Cheddar is beautiful, we love a dog photo here! I also think you have my dream job. I always admire dog walkers with big packs of dogs I don't know how they do it I usually have my two younger dogs and a foster or two who is staying short term and I am always falling over the leads!

@Ninjachicken I have similar goals! Being under 10 stone would be great even though I weigh in kg. I think I am aiming overall for around 62kg as that would put me just below the middle of the healthy BMI range, I am quite tall at 5ft 8 but I am also pretty narrow in built so any extra weight shows quickly even if my bmi is healthy.

TheRealHousewife · 15/03/2023 08:17

Good Morning All

WOW - 9st 7.6lbs = 2lbs loss of the holiday gain. A further 2lbs to go 🤞

@Ninjachicken I find the way I eat very easy as it totally fits in with my taste in food and accommodates my celiac disease. The protein and healthy fats keep you satiated and all the veggies and legumes keep you revitalised. I hardly ever crave sweet stuff. That said on occasion I do indulge in chocolate or other such nonsense 😬 Delightful photo of your dogs 😍 They look affectionate with each other.

@Weatherwax13 Good steady loss overall 👍👏. Sorry to hear about the stress and difficulties surrounding your dd. Sending a handhold and a hug ❤️

Thank you @buzzofthebumblebee You're wonderful too as are all our ladies ❤️ Great run btw 👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken Good amount of exercise you’ve fitted in! I usually weigh the dry pasta or rice before cooking. It always comes as a surprise how heavy it weighs. It’s easy to overdose on 😬

@AutisticLegoLover It’s some achievement to maintain your weight/bmi over 2 decades! That will benefit your health markers hugely. Well done 👍👏⭐️ Your post got me thinking that I’d more or less maintained over the decades and being a consistent size 6/8/10 depending on brand. Then stuff happened. My lower half is back to where it was (jeans 4/6/8) and I’m still carrying extra around middle, boobs & strangely my back (10/12)

Hi @ginsparkles Lovely to see you back!

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made chicken and vegetable soup. Pecans. Apple
Meal 2 - Mushroom risotto. Greek yoghurt & blueberries.
Tea, black coffee and water. I’ve started adding Willys Apple Cider Vinegar to my water, especially before eating (through a straw) as it said to help with flattening blood sugars spikes.

A little bit of sun here again which is nice to see. Still very cold 🥶 Enjoy your day!

Hello all, happy WoW and lovely to see so many of you. Especially Carolinedogwalker I'm very envious of your job! 😁

I've had quite a lot to eat already today as was hungry when up with the baby at 4 and again at 6.30. Will have an experimental weigh and report back.

MKD1 · 15/03/2023 09:46

Good morning all! My eating window was more than 8 hours yesterday as I was doing a last minute science project with the kids which was due today!

But I'm not upset as I like the flexibility and I still ate 'good' in the day.

Just weighed myself and I've back down to 160.5lbs so that 1lb I gained last week, I've lost since Monday 🤔.

Felt like a good reset. Envious of everyone getting in so many steps in and doing great exercise!

Have a great day all :)

Cloudberries123 · 15/03/2023 09:46

96.6kg so up a bit but not as much as I feared. Allowing for the fact I've easily got 600g of food and water in me, I feel a bit more motivated 😁

Carolinedogwalker · 15/03/2023 09:54

Morning everyone!
thank you for all the kind welcomes and love for Cheddar! I have no idea if he is named after the dog from Brooklyn 99 @Ninjachicken but you are the second person to ask, so I’ll have to find out!! Your rescues are so cute!
Today my plan is…
B porridge oats with muller light
L left over chicken from fajitas we had last night with some salad
D not sure yet, maybe sausage traybake?!?

Have a wonderful day everyone xx

SingaporeSlinky · 15/03/2023 09:58

Morning all

1lb down this week

SW 9st 12
CW 9st 2

2 weeks left before holiday so I’d be fairly happy to just keep doing what I’m doing and maintain. Getting under 9st isn’t going to happen but it’s the lightest I’ve been since I was in my 20s

Well done everyone else that stepped on the scales today, whatever the result.

45 min Bodytone class done, currently on spin bike.

Lunch - usual
Dinner - beans on tiger bloomer (just because I fancy it and haven’t had beans for years)

Bumblebeehum · 15/03/2023 10:05

Morning all, the tiniest of 0.2kg loss for me this week (which in pounds doesn’t count 🫣), and I’m not surprised at all.

March has been one long plateau where I feel I’ve lost control in the evenings again. I find myself grazing when not even hungry, need to snap back out of this habit - any tips?

Welcome @Carolinedogwalker good to have you with us!

ginsparkles · 15/03/2023 10:14

@Ninjachicken .... does one of your rescues have kelpie or huntaway in them? The colouring is very much like the breed. Ours is an Australian Kelpie

Gorgeous dogs!

Small loss here too - not sure what it is from last WOW as it fluctuates so much. But I'm at a low of 11 1 1/2. Determined to get to under 11 but like you Singapore I don't think it's ever going to happen. I think my 11 now (50's) is similar to my 10 (30's). I'm actually far stronger physically than I was then - hardly ever went to the gym, and if I did thought it was an achievement to hit 100 calories lost on the stepper or treadmill. And now I'm signed up for 1/2 marathon !!

@Bumblebeehum - my experience of grazing is when I'm stressed or emotional over something. I have also managed to quit my nightly wine, which also means I've quit the nightly crisps too. (I reckon I consumed same again calories post dinner snacking as I did rest of day - hence I got up to over 13 stone). Easier said than done. Very very hard. I just went cold turkey January, and continued. Hence one evening at a time, to try and break the habit. Hot drinks. Laptop on knee watching TV to keep fingers busy (I have LOADS of lovely clothes, holidays, houses, etc etc in virtual shopping baskets !!).

Best of luck to you today. Take willpower to not snack from the sun that's trying to break through. The wait is worth it !!

ImALittlePea · 15/03/2023 12:49

Afternoon all! Thread has moved nice and quickly.

Sorry I can't name check everyone but just wanted to say welcome to @Carolinedogwalker (and any other newbies I may have missed 😬) and send well wishes to those with poorly DC (@Weatherwax13 @Lionnose and any others), hopefully you're in calmer waters soon ❤️

Lots of cheering going on for WoWers today - again sorry I can't name check but you're all bloody amazing, whatever the outcome - I've said it before and I'll say it again no doubt, but the continued posting and accountability on here is inspiring!

Things are a bit manic here, big discussions going on about the upcoming months. Our 'side hustle' little business is struggling a touch (we take a small income for it which tops up our monthly budget plus pays for childcare), so I'm going to have to up my waitressing hours temporarily to cover the shortfall, all while simultaneously trying to recover the business with DH, with him working full time in an increasingly stressful job and me about to have DD full time as her childminder is closing shortly... and keep on top of the house, life/kids admin, maintain a social life and not fall back on midweek wines and comfort food to get me through. I've also got to give up my volunteering role for the short term 😥 Just the thought of it all is exhausting, but I just keep having to remind myself that it isn't forever; lots of savvy organising and making the most of every minute of the day, be it for work, tasks or down time. Phewwwwww!

In the meantime...

Yesterday:
Lunch - cup-a-soup special!
Dinner - homemade macaroni cheese and a little green salad
Steps - just short of 7,000

Today:
Lunch - same same 😁
Dinner - baked potato, cheese omelette and beans
Steps - working tonight so hopefully >10,000
