"I Started Ozempic Last Night" THREAD THREE

1000 replies

Athena51 · 16/02/2023 08:44

Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

I have just read that wegovy will be available in the uk in a matter of weeks and available for £70 ish pounds on the NHS

(Source daily mail)

I saw that too but it’s not clear to me if it’s going to be an available to buy privately? I know my dr wouldn’t prescribe it, he’s an old school diet and exercise person which is great if that works for you but it hasn’t for me!

Twwodoorsaway · 08/03/2023 08:36

Weigh day and injection day here, and another 700g lost which puts me at 6.3kg lost (just shy of a stone) in 2 months. I would never lose this usually even with very strict dieting. My next pen arrived last week, and is 1mg. I’m feeling the 0.5 is doing pretty well so I’m tempted to hold on to that for another week or two. Presumably the click number quoted earlier in the thread applies to any pen size? Thanks for any help in advance!

www.nice.org.uk/news/article/nice-recommended-weight-loss-drug-to-be-made-available-in-specialist-nhs-services

Here's what NICE are saying. It will be interesting to read the full guidance but it sounds like the criteria is strict but with a holistic approach.

MaireadMcSweeney · 08/03/2023 09:22

The criteria for NHS prescriptions will be very high - BMI 35 with one comorbidity or 30 in some patients (presumably with other static risk factors)
I'll be happy to pay for wegovy if it comes out soon at the same price point, I think I will need the higher dose to keep losing sooner or later

Thanks love your graphs @Cozytoesandtoast00 @suphi @themuminator they are an impressive trajectory!

@IAmBreathingIn @OneAndDon3 I am impressed by your willpower not weighing.

Day 7 day today and decided to weigh. Partly because I'm unable to resist and partly because if I do lose significant weight then I'll need to adjust my calorie intake.

And 7 days and 2.5kg lost, I am astounded! Don't expect this every week but I'm so pleased to be back in double (not triple) figures on the scales!

@pearlandperidot Part willpower, and part being broke! lol. I do feel better for it though. I have been measuring my waist every couple of weeks or so. I'm very apple (barrel!) shaped and given the associated health risks it has really helped to egg me on, seeing the tap measure edging closer together. I was honestly shocked when I realised how round I was compared to my height - frightening!

Well done on your loss, fantastic ☺️

Twodoorsaway I was the same as you was losing fine on 0.25mg and 0.5mg and decided to do another month of 0.5mg and lost nothing at all during that time, I didn't want to go up higher as I felt I needed more time for my body to adjust nausea etc, it did help with that but scales didn't move at all. Just my two pence worth.

Prettybubblesintheair · 08/03/2023 09:50

Sorry does that mean it’ll be available privately or not?

IAmBreathingIn · 08/03/2023 09:54

@Twwodoorsaway Congratulations on your loss, fantastic progress!

@Happierwithouthim Thanks for sharing, very useful information. I'm just about to start week 9 and was wondering whether to increase. It really is so helpful when people share their experiences and progress on here ☺️

The Times says it will be available on the NHS within 3 months of being available in the UK and that it will be available privately. The date is still ‘in the spring’ but I guess that isn’t far away now despite the cold and rain.

Happierwithouthim · 08/03/2023 11:04

Iambreathingin I'd have been lost without this thread for advice as I couldn't find any information about ozempic really except the hyperbole in the media.

I'm finding the appetite suppression since I went up to 1mg has changed again. Since oxempic I usually find that my dinner is a meal that I just can't finish, I eat enough and then that's it I can't eat another bite. This is happening me now at breakfast Hmm

WhyDoesItAlways · 08/03/2023 11:12

I've signed up for email alerts with boots for wegovy and from their site it looks like they will be selling it privately. I really want to know how much it's going to cost. I assume if it's much cheaper than Oz then they will quickly run into supply issues.

PSNonsense · 08/03/2023 11:56

So my 0.25 first dose got delivered today but I'm not sure when to start. I've got a night out on Friday that I can't get out of (and don't want to not drink at!), my period started yesterday and I have some bread, wine etc still in my house.

Is delaying until Monday a big cop out or should I just get on with it as I weighed myself yesterday and I'm the biggest I've ever been.

Happierwithouthim · 08/03/2023 12:50

I started on a Monday evening because I felt even if I was away for a weekend on a bank holiday I'd be home to do it on Mon eve.

I wouldn't start when you're already miserable with period, why take more on board when you don't have to. Three/four days isn't going to make a massive difference to your health really is it?

I would start on Sunday or Monday- no harm in delaying the start for a few days

PSNonsense · 08/03/2023 13:03

Thanks both. Makes sense to start with a clear head. I'm not planning on eating/drinking myself to death until then as I'm already making tracks to get my diet back on track with better choices but I just know today is not the day to get back to my 'normal' weight!

stillavid · 08/03/2023 13:41

So much in the press today about ozempic/wagovy. Do people think there may be shortages of ozempic or as I am hoping, norodisk are just going to pump up production? I mean this must be making £££ for them.

With it being nearly the three year anniversary of lockdown and a snow day here - I am feeling the urge to stockpile [joking]

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/03/2023 14:17

The fact that Wegovy is going to be available here makes me think they have found a way to increase production. That is why there has been the delay.

Ozempic and Wegovy are the same thing (semaglutide) just marketed under different names.

Ozempic is marketed as a diabetic treatment to lower blood sugars whereas Wegovy will be marketed as a weight loss medicine that lowers blood sugars and help reduce cravings.

So as they are same thing just in different packaging I can't see why there would be much difference if any in the price 🤷🏻‍♀️

Twwodoorsaway · 08/03/2023 15:35

@Happierwithouthim thank you, that’s the kind of information that is really helpful. I think I will go up next week to the 1mg. Interestingly my DS is in Europe and also on ozempic. He was prescribed 0.5mg for 8 weeks and his weight loss stalled completely in the second 4 weeks. I’d kind of forgotten that too.

@IAmBreathingIn thank you!

Lndnmummy · 08/03/2023 15:48

I am doing much much better today so am now thinking that I might try and stick with it. Perhaps go down to 0.5 again for a few more weeks. I am relieved that the extreme sickness didn't last the entire week this time. I am not able to eat anything still but I don't mind that. Its kind of the point in a way. I will keep plodding along

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 08/03/2023 17:25

I've just taken my first dose of .25. Had a rush of nausea about a minute after taking it but then was ok. 🤞🏻, am so excited!!

themuminator · 08/03/2023 17:26

My bmi is 37 so I'm wondering if it's worth me speaking to my GP. I can't really afford Ozempic (single parent) but I also can't afford not to lose weight! I have an acl injury and metalwork in my leg and need to get more mobile.

I dug out photos of me 10 years ago for inspiration when I was 145lbs. I still felt fat 😔

Nearing the end of week 2 and the appetite suppression is wearing off a bit now... Just have to make it until Friday morning.

msssm · 08/03/2023 18:04

Mine arrived today. I'm going to take my first dose Friday eve so I've the weekend to rest if I feel a bit rubbish. In the meantime I'm going to re-read all 3 threads to remind myself of all the good advice throughout.

My bmi is 38. It's always been 18 until the last 5 years due to illness. I can't even breath the fat is lying so heavily on my chest. I'm going to do 16:8 then throw in one or two fast days as soon as I'm in the swing.

Watching tv with interest today. All news is regarding England. I'm in Scotland. I hope I can get it on prescription before too long 🤞🏻

hereforthegin · 08/03/2023 18:10

Took my first dose today at 3 ish. Little bit stingy when the needle was resting in there but felt fine going in. When did you all start seeing/feeling any different?
