Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

Took my first dose today at 3 ish. Little bit stingy when the needle was resting in there but felt fine going in. When did you all start seeing/feeling any different?

I expect it will be tomorrow morning before you feel a difference. I hope it goes well and that you stay side effect free.

I am doing much much better today so am now thinking that I might try and stick with it. Perhaps go down to 0.5 again for a few more weeks. I am relieved that the extreme sickness didn't last the entire week this time. I am not able to eat anything still but I don't mind that. Its kind of the point in a way. I will keep plodding along

@Lndnmummy I feel for you; I really do. From my own qualifications in a Anatomy and physiology and my own experience being ill and in hospital myself, if you’re not able to eat anything at all, that’s absolutely not the point of Ozempic; you should be able to carry with a healthy balanced lifestyle with it.

Your call, but objectively you can’t sensibly put weight loss before your health; if you’re not eating, your bloods will go south very quickly indeed and your sodium and potassium will be out of whack, which will at some point require supplementation in hospital. You could end up on a drip very quickly. And no one wants to be in A and E at the current time.

it’s honestly not worth your health and I say this with all the best intentions. When I was ill (not eating due to food poisoning) it was awful, the supplements were awful and it felt like it would never end.

Look after yourself @Lndnmummy x

Hi!
i started Ozempic last week, I am not sure I feel that different maybe a bit more thirsty. Lost 2lb though but still feel hungry. Any advice? Does it take a bit to kick in?

i have already lost 2 stone with Saxenda but sadly it doesn’t work for me anymore. Has anyone else started Ozempic after Sax? Thanks

AlternativelyWired · 08/03/2023 19:42

The manufacturer notes that it takes 4 to 5 weeks of once-weekly administration with Ozempic to reach steady state. Steady state is the time during which the concentration of the drug in the body stays consistent. In other words, steady state is when the rate of the drug going into your body is equal to the rate of drug elimination.
Although steady state levels are reached in 4 to 5 weeks, clinical effectiveness with Ozempic will vary from person to person and may take longer due to unique factors such as age, weight, amount of body fluid, additional medications you take, kidney or liver function, or your other medical conditions.

It's really important to understand how this drug works.

The method of administration by subcutaneous injection is a very slow method and it can take up to 24 hours for a drug to be absorbed. Intramuscular injections take around 10-20 minutes to take effect and are much faster than sub cut. Sub cut is the method of delivery here for its slow sustained absorption of the drug.

Thank you so much. And of course you are right. I am pre diabetic (v high) and so of course I can't risk not eating. Thank you so much for your post. I have made an appointment with an Endo to see where to go from here.

@Twiglets1 thank you as well.

@AllIwantforChristmas22 I started Oz after Saxenda and it took until the full 1mg dose before I felt anything. Since then I have lost around 2lbs a week although this is slowing to 1lb a week which is fine with me. Sax did nothing for me aside from make me feel really unwell and I’ve had few side effects from Oz aside from an infrequent upset tummy.
I’ve lost around 9lbs since beginning of Dec on Oz but all of that has been since Feb on the full dose. Best of luck.

OneAndDon3 · 08/03/2023 22:18

@hereforthegin the effects for me were straight away. No idea if that was psychosomatic or not, but I am lost my appetite within an hour of taking it.

Karmakamelion · 08/03/2023 22:34

I've been on 0.5 for 3 weeks now but am slipping back into eating too much.
Did anyone else find .5 not as effective?

Peridot1 · 08/03/2023 22:52

It’s different for so many people that it’s hard to say really @Karmakamelion. When you say slipping back into eating too much what exactly do you mean?

the drug can take some time to build up in your system.

make sure you are eating lots of protein. Reduce your carbs. Drink lots of water. If you do feel hungry have a protein snack. Slice of ham or cheese or a boiled egg.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 09/03/2023 07:01

12hours in - didn't think about food at all last night, it's usually peak time for snacking!

This morning I feel ever so slightly nauseous but it's only really slightly. I am however completely dehydrated and nothing will satiate that!

Yes me!
I posted about it a few days ago as was just about to go up to 1mg.
A few posters suggested splitting 1mg into 2 x 0.5mg over a week.
I took 1 x 0.5mg last Saturday (this was due to be my 4th 0.5mg jab)
I then jabbed again on Tuesday night with another 0.5mg
Last night I had fish & chips....but I couldn't eat it all. I barely ate half!

Fingers crossed this is exactly what I needed and it seems to have worked!

pearlandperidot · 09/03/2023 09:09

Oh that is very interesting @AlternativelyWired

That's sounds horrible @Lndnmummy hope it shifts soon.

Day 2 of week 2 here and feel much hungrier than last week which makes me wonder how much of last week was psychosomatic. Not sure it really matters if it's working. Today is going to be hard as was up with the baby quite a bit then at the gym early doors. Must keep busy and resist the urge to snack!

hereforthegin · 09/03/2023 09:36

No symptoms or feeling so far after taking my first dose yesterday afternoon.

Just had a couple of slices of wholemeal toast for breakfast and managed it just fine. My tummy is VERY gurgly though. My husband was baffled to see me eating. I think he assumed I survive solely on ozempic to lose weight 🙄.

@pearlandperidot I'm also day 2 of week 2 and definitely feel hungrier than I did last week, although I'm still not reaching out for snacks mid morning or after work like I used to.

Hotelfoxtrot · 09/03/2023 09:52

Hi everyone, can I join?

I’m currently taking saxenda and hoping to switch to ozempic for cost reasons. Can anyone recommend cheapest supplier? I am currently completing a consultation for quick meds so if anyone has a discount code for that I’d be grateful!

thanks!

I'm at the exact same time as you and I feel the same ! The first week it really dulled my appetite and interest in food, but this second week has been tougher. I'm hungrier and wanting to snack. I think I read on one of these threads though that it was common for weeks two and three so I am just hanging in there 🥴

pearlandperidot · 09/03/2023 10:19

@Lavendersquare I'm not but I'm unsure how much is my willpower and how much is Ozempic. Presumably a bit of both?!

@hereforthegin if only it required no effort right?!

pearlandperidot · 09/03/2023 10:21

Oh also interesting @Twinkle71. I was surprised that it 'worked' last week as much as it did as it's just the 0.25. Good to know to expect a bit more of a battle this week and next, will just have to get a bit busier so I'm not sat around at home which is a real trigger for me (maternity leave life!)

MiniCooperLover · 09/03/2023 10:32

I'm finding I 'feel' the effects less on .5 than I did on .25. I'm still eating less and making deliberate effort to have smaller portions but I'm finishing them which I didn't on .25. This is my third week of .5 and this week I had no loss (I had had a sugar heavy weekend so I wasn't surprised). I had an email off Juniper explaining that often around week 5/6 people hit a plateau that can take a few weeks to start moving on from. I'm going to keep plugging away and hope that I can start loosing again soon. Am due to go on holiday in 3 weeks so would love to see another loss (even small) before then.

snap i started on 13/12/22 at 13 s10
am now12 . 2 lbs
so overall a really good loss in 12 weeks.
but I have not really lost anything for a few weeks am now on1mg and am definitely eating less am counting calories and sticking to around1400 .
i think i'm just going to be patient and feel grateful that i'm losing rather than gaining even more.
my BMI is now 31 i am also going on holiday three weeks from today and was hoping to be in the 11 stone bracket but perhaps that won't happen

Welcome to Ozempic!

Nothing ‘wrong’ with the wholemeal toast (I dislike the practice of attaching a moral value to foods and don’t believe any foods are bad or good in themselves) but I have a suggestion for you.

Having something more filling like oats (or even protein oats to smash it out of the park!) or something where most of the energy comes from protein will keep you fuller for longer. You’re gurgly because there just isn’t enough ‘stuff’ in your tummy for the amount of acid that we have swishing around.

Just a thought. Have a great day x

Karmakamelion · 09/03/2023 11:13

Thank you everyone for replying to me. I did try the protein and actually that really did help. Ah well onwards and upwards I suppose!
I just hated feeling back like eating was ogetting out of my control yet again. But will definitely take the advice given. Thank goodness for this thread. It definitely makes me feel like I'm not alone
