Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

So does anyone know if Wegovy is going to be exactly the same but just a massive dose?

Peridot1 · 06/03/2023 22:03

It will be available in different dosages like Ozempic. It’s already been on the market in the US.

Thanks, I'm interested to see how much it will be.

They are the same drug, Wegovy and ozempic are both semaglutide, the difference is that Wegovy will be marketed as a weight loss drug whilst ozempic is for diabetics.

The other difference is that Wegovy will have dosages that increase gradually up to 2.4mg, whereas ozempic tends to have a lower maximum dose.

Other than that they are exactly the same, different brands of the same thing think ibuprofen and neurofen.

As for cost, as they are the same hard to justify charging more and unlikely to be less since theres already plenty who are willing to pay £200 pm for ozempic.

I am new to looking into weight loss treatments and came across this one whilst reading up on them

Hoping someone may be able to answer some questions for me.

How long can you take it for

Has anyone experienced side effects such as hair loss etc ( I've already lost hair use to health issues so ideally want to avoid )

How much does it cost per month to buy and the best place to buy
Thanks

So week 8 and am on 0.5.
No side effects, no hunger suppression, am eating for England!

What's happened?

I feel really down as in the first three weeks the appetite suppression was enormous!
Will it be better on 1mg or should I go back to 0.25?

Not sure what is happening!
I'm hungry all the time at the moment and can't stop thinking about my next meal is 😂

That’s unusual to have no appetite suppression at all. I can’t see it would help you to go back down to a lower dose, that is normally suggested for people whose side effects are too severe.
Assuming you have been on 0.5mg for 4 weeks I would try rising to 1mg and see if it works better at a higher dose.

Where people are using it for weight loss not diabetes, the usual advice seems to be not to take it for longer than 2 years. I have not personally heard of anyone experiencing hair loss through it but you would need to research more into that. Most people on this thread have not been taking Ozemic for more than a few weeks or months so can’t comment on long term effects.

I bought through Mayfair which costs £180 a month. There are other suppliers which you can Google. It’s possible to get it slightly cheaper especially in the first month as some suppliers offer £50 off codes (not Mayfair) so hopefully someone else will comment on that option later.

Peridot1 · 07/03/2023 05:01

@ladyforallseasons maybe try 0.5 twice a week. It’s worked for lots of people and is for me. I found it better than 1mg once a week.

@smm88 - I answered you about cost on the other thread. Side effects for me have been constipation mainly. I have lost hair but not sure it was the Ozempic. My hair had thinned a lot due to menopause anyway and then I got covid in July 2021 and I definitely lost more hair then. I put it down to covid but my hairdresser said it may have been the Ozempic/weight loss. I’ve been taking Ozempic for a year. Since October I’ve been taking Viviscal consistently and I’m not losing as much and I have some new growth.

Lavendersquare · 07/03/2023 07:26

One week since I took my first Ozempic dose and I've just weighed and have lost 5.8lb!

This level of weight loss has never happened to me, ever so I am over the moon. I'm also well aware that it is week 1 and this rate of loss is unlikely to continue, but for the moment I'm blown away.

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 07/03/2023 08:34

@smm88 welcome!

Yes I lost an absolute tonne of hair to begin with. My Consultant said that this sometimes happen when you loose weight. So not an Ozempic thing but a by-product of it’s effects.

Happierwithouthim · 07/03/2023 08:54

I'm using 1mg pen, I took 2 x .75mg and 2 x 1mg doses, am I right in thinking I've 0.5mg left now?

I've very thick hair and haven't noticed any thinning at all.

While I've been on ozempic I've had one day where there's a very urgent trip to loo generally in the morning, since I moved up to 1mg this side effect seems to have disappeared, hopefully it'll stay gone Smile

Well done.

I'm on day 7 and weighed this am. 3kg down. That's really spurred me on and make me glad I've made this decision. One of DC has a big birthday today so there will be celebrating to be done but I'm hopeful I can use the weightless to prompt me to continue to make healthy decisions!

Any fast weight loss could potentially cause hair loss in some people.
Making sure you are getting enough protein and b vitamins may help guard against this. Also make sure your iron levels are optimal.

Just a flag that I called Numan to cancel my subscription as it was going up in price after the initial offer period, and they instantly said I could have the offer price for another 3 months. So that’s 6 months at £156 a month.

That's good to know . I have tried contacting manual via phone and email to see if they would supply the 1mg pen as that seems the most cost effective supplier but no response .
I'll stick with uk meds as they were really good and have given me a code for £5 off which will make it £150 I think.
Happy to share

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/03/2023 10:01

I think the two year limit comes from the NICE guidelines and remember they are trying to get the best value for money. There is lots of other advice out there saying it is a long term or even life long medication as obesity is a chronic and progressive disease.

Lavendersquare · 07/03/2023 10:42

@IcanandIwill that's a fantastic loss and such a spur to keep you motivated, well done.

Lndnmummy · 07/03/2023 10:42

@Twiglets1 I am sick again. I think I will have to stop. I can't continue to feel like this😓

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 07/03/2023 11:51

@Lndnmummy I am so sorry to hear that. It’s not worth if it’s affecting your health so negatively when it’s supposed to be a positive. If you can’t work or function whilst on it, u would have no guilt about putting it down to experience. All the best xx

Happierwithouthim · 07/03/2023 14:02

@Lndnmummy definitely not point in taking ozempic if it's making you ill, it's a medication that you're meant to be able to carry on a normal life while taking it

Alstoybarn · 07/03/2023 14:38

Took my first 1mg today and wow I feel so Ill! Feel very very sick hot and just blargh! Let's hope it helps as my weight loss has stalled for a few weeks now

Give it 2 days and you will feel better. Take it easy if you can. X

themuminator · 07/03/2023 15:14

Sorry to hear some people feeling really sick.

I'm really pushing myself to stay low in cals and the scales really don't want to move. It's like my body has dug it's heals in!

I'm on about 1200-1300 and remained the same for the last 5 days. Trying drinking more water now. On the plus side my jeans feel ever so slightly loose!

Twiglets1 · 07/03/2023 15:51

Lndnmummy · 07/03/2023 10:42

@Twiglets1 I am sick again. I think I will have to stop. I can't continue to feel like this😓

I came to the same conclusion.
I very nervously took dose 5 (still only 0.25mg) and the nausea & vomiting returned the next day. I decided I couldn’t cope with it any more.
Im still dieting though and still losing weight so at least you could join me in the post Ozempic diet 😊
Progress is a bit slower but it’s such a relief to be able to plan things again knowing that I will be feeling normal.
