Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes 👍

@TheRealHousewife can you set your low impact exercise as yoga?

TheRealHousewife · 26/02/2023 20:09

Oooo I'll have a look. I do a spot of yoga most days 👍

@Bumblebeehum I love true crime 😈 I think I like to see how deviant minds work. I could never imagine doing anyone any harm and it fascinates how very easy it is for some people. Wholesome things to watch … I quite enjoyed Schitts Creek. Very good!

I've never fancied an Apple Watch. I love my Fitbit though. I bought it in June of lockdown and have been hooked since. I have an iphone and have the Fitbit app on there. When the new one arrives I'll be able to use it more with having a functioning display and I can set my own challenges. It's got similar features but I'm
Not able to answer calls or text and wouldn't want to. I have the reminder to move thing set up, or did before my screen went so I can't see what's active or not. It still counts my steps, floors, active minutes, sleep, weight etc. gets my periods totally wrong but I don't know how to sort that. The new one does active zone minutes. Not sure how they differ. I'm going to enjoy the gentle alarm function. I hate alarms.

I've messed up my evening by forgetting that Endeavour starts at 8 not 9🤦‍♀️ I'll have to watch it on plus1 now because I didn't set it to record either. What a twit.

Dinner was a strange concoction of fig, plum and cranberry biscuits/crackers, an apple, raspberries, yogurt and lots of water.

AutisticLegoLover · 26/02/2023 20:55

I can do a decent sized food shop on Wednesday or Thursday and need to get to grips with healthy but lower calorie main meals. I love pasta so I might see what I can make in smaller portions and maybe put veg on the side. I love ziti and lasagne and have some cute Mason and Cole size 1 dishes that probably won't break the calorie bank. I miss proper food. I've just not fancied cooking much lately. Laziness and lack of inspiration are my enemies there.

Bumblebeehum · 26/02/2023 21:12

@TheRealHousewife i loved schitts creek, I’m rewatching it all on the exercise bike, need a new something like that!

Weatherwax13 · 26/02/2023 21:31

@AutisticLegoLover I think it was @greenspaces4peace who suggested doing half courgetti and half pasta together. Might that be an idea?
I'm finding the Happy Scales app suggested by @TheRealHousewife to be a huge encouragement. Seeing the graph ALWAYS go up again a bit after a loss, then dropping slightly, followed by a short plateau. And then after a few days dropping again, this time below the earlier loss to a bigger loss. Really stops me from snacking and kinda throwing the towel in when I'm discouraged.
I still have a really small handful of peanuts most nights. But nothing else.
Only danger is that it could make you a bit obsessive. I had an eating disorder many moons ago which age seemed to put right but I'm mindful of that and I haven't felt the urge to be overly restrictive at all. Just keeps me on plan.
well done everyone. Keep going!

buzzofthebumblebee · 26/02/2023 22:21

Hello you lovely lot. Busy day. Quick check in:
B - long run + veg soup with yoghurt
L - roast beef dinner. Small portion (by my standards !!). Apple tart.
D - slice cake (homemade), 3 oat cakes, spoon nut butter, yoghurt
So more sugary stuff than I am used to, but offset by long run (run app said I burned 1100 cals, but another calculator said 800. Either way it's a good chunk I justified the cake and apple tart for). Oh - and wine too.

Hope the new week and new month bring good positive determination, resistance, and weight loss for everyone

AutisticLegoLover · 27/02/2023 00:20

I've had a tough few days emotionally. Well, the last 10 days really. Family stuff. This weekend has been particularly bad and I've been eyeing up the leftover holiday sweets, the mini eggs, and the creme eggs. I have resisted them all. I think only due to saying I've given up sweets and chocolate for Lent though otherwise I'd have eaten loads. I bounced through most of endeavour but felt so tired about gạc an hour from the end that I nearly didn't watch the rest. I cuddled up with the cat and finished watching. Ages now on my lap in bed and I should be going to sleep but feel I need the distraction of mumsnet for a bit longer. My alarm is going off in 6 hours 😩 I've said to ds that seeing as the weather is due to be dry this week then we will make an effort to leave early and walk through the woods and along the canal on the way to school. We always do on the way back unless we need to get up the hill quickly for an appointment. Walking back through the woods is prettier, better air away from all the cars, interesting things to see and is less steep than the bastard big hill by road. We are very lucky to have such a lovely school run. I'll see if I can post some pictures.
I wonder what the scales will say this next week? Things are definitely looser, even my watch that I've not worn for over a year is really loose on my wrist. I know look like a prat wearing my watch and Fitbit but I need the watch for a watch and the Fitbit for my steps etc. I missed my watch. I spent years trying to find the perfect one and eventually did so it's a shave not to wear it.

Does anyone read any of the other weight loss chat threads? I find them quite fascinating but this one is the only one that ticks my boxes. It holds me accountable and encourages me to check in with my latest weight and keep going.

Weatherwax13 · 27/02/2023 01:04

@AutisticLegoLover I've taken to glancing at the other weight loss threads. Some of them are very supportive. I just feel I've clicked with the vibe on this one. Everyone seems to be on a similar wave length and this is the only place I post.

Hope you get some sleep. You sound a bit like me. I'm in a funny mood after some really emotional family stuff involving eldest AC. I can't quite put my finger on exactly how I feel but I'm certainly very unsettled.

**

AutisticLegoLover · 27/02/2023 06:57

@Weatherwax13 hope you feel more settled soon.

Morning all. 59.6kg this morning. I've been hovering around this weight for ages it seems so I'm hoping for a drop this Wednesday. The school run will help boost things along. I should get around 20,000 steps in today. I'm sure I was 68kg back in the summer so I've lost going on 10kg since then. I might try on some of my summer clothes this week. I'm hoping I'll fit into my linen trousers now and there'll certainly be less pregnant-esque belly filling out my tops. I bought a pair of linen dungarees off vinted or eBay last summer but being short the crotch was near my knees. I never got them altered but will do for this summer along with a T-shirt that I go in the sale that's a 14 and was too wide. I hate summer for not being able to hide under hoodies. Maybe this summer will be different.

Let's get this week started. Have a good one everyone! Good luck to those who weigh today.

B: porridge, chia, golden syrup, tea
L: erm
D: maybe pasta

AutisticLegoLover · 27/02/2023 07:22

Error: 59.45kg. Every little counts!

SingaporeSlinky · 27/02/2023 07:26

Morning everyone.
Setting my intentions for the week…

Booked onto 3 gym classes. Intend to up the barbell weights from 2x 2.5kg to 2x 5kg. Was a bit shocked the first time a previous instructor made us all switch, but enjoyed the challenge and need to make sure I’m pushing myself enough. Want to start spinning this week too, and hope to do another really long walk with a friend.

Out for dinner this week so will relax a little in terms of menu choices and a few drinks, but will try to limit calories the rest of the day. Need to meal plan the rest of the week.

Hoping to finish the month another pound down.

Have a good week everyone.

Fara22 · 27/02/2023 07:36

Morning! I like the idea of setting weekly intentions.

I will attend 1 yoga and two Pilates sessions booked. I may try and get a swim in as well.

I will aim for 8000-10000 steps a day.

I will continue with my lent aim of not snacking in the evening.

I will join the new March thread in a couple of days and keep my overall weight trend moving downwards.

Wishing everyone a good week!

ginsparkles · 27/02/2023 07:41

Morning all! Still carrying a bit of weight from the holiday and a boozy pasta heavy meal with friends at the weekend. But trying not to let it bother me.

Have also booked an appointment to speak to the advanced practitioner about the very obvious peri menopause symptoms that are driving me mad!

Intentions for this week. I have an extra day off this week, and that's usually a danger zone so my intentions are to stick to the plan, no matter what! Out for a fancy meal on Saturday so I want to use that to keep my head in the right place all week. Fridge is stocked full of fruit and good snacks! Having a tooth removed this week so that might make life easier Grin

Meals for today
Breakfast- cereal and fruit as ever
Lunch - chicken salad, fruit and yoghurt
Dinner - home made Chinese fried rice

MKD1 · 27/02/2023 09:23

Hi All! So I did say I wanted to start on Monday (today!) So here goes,

I've gained 2 stone and have had 2 kids in that time. So really I've gained 1 stone per child 🤣.

My wardrobe has changed over the year, leggings and baggy tops and I'm just not happy with myself.

Hoping this group will keep me motivated! So I decided to do the 16:8. However I had a hot drink last night 10.30 as I totally forgot that I had to technically start from Sunday night. So today will be more likely be 14:8 which I'm fine with!

In a pickle tomorrow as I'm at a spa day all day! So usually I have a decent breakfast before going! So hopefully I can just stick to it as we have lunch and dinner booked there!

Weighed myself today! And It's gone up from 2 years ago. 165.25 lbs.

Target weight in an ideal world is around 133lbs.

So fingers crossed 🤞

WolfMother326 · 27/02/2023 09:30

Hello thanks for the welcome @TheRealHousewife

I have a really busy work week, plus childcare and driving lessons. My main goals for the week are not to stress eat and to take 3 walks and 2 runs. Not really counting calories but keeping them in mind.

AutisticLegoLover · 27/02/2023 10:31

Welcome the new posters!

I've told ds he has got to start having healthier meals. No more penne with butter, he needs protein. I've written a list of meal ideas and a huge shopping list filled with fruit and veg and cheese and yogurt. On Wednesday I'm going to try mini lasagnes. He'll eat it but Dd won't. She doesn't like foods combined at all. She might try it if I'm lucky but I'll do her quorn meatballs and spaghetti because that's something she likes that no one else does 🙄 I'm going to use my dinky dishes but put them on plates and have veg or salad on the side. I've looked up recipes for cauliflower soup as that's dd's favourite vegetable and we all like soup. I'm going to do my butternut squash and carrot soup soon too. Anyone any ideas for how to improve broccoli? Not sauces or cheese.

SingaporeSlinky · 27/02/2023 11:10

Loving everyone joining in, settings their intentions for the week!

30 min Legs, Bums & Tums class done. 30 min spin done (just me listening to music and occasionally turning resistance up for a standing section). Will aim to follow an actual class on my phone next time. 50 mins of walking done (to and from school and gym).

Had my first (and last) coffee for the day. Need to curb these sugary coffees so back to one a day, if I can.
Lunch - yoghurt, strawberries, seeds, granola
Dinner - leftover slow cooker beef with leftover egg fried rice.

ImALittlePea · 27/02/2023 11:46

Morning all! Loving the determination coming through this morning.

My weekend was typically over indulgent. Thankfully, friends didn't cancel Friday night, dinner and cake were a huge success! I've had a bit too much wine, and two takeaways (OOPS) but on the flip side I wasn't mindlessly snacking on crisps as much as I tend to at weekends, and I've done a lot of walking.

My intentions for the week have already been a bit scuppered as DH has just suggested going for lunch as we have a rare child free day. Might have a 'big' lunch and do the cup-a-soup meal tonight instead, depending on the menu. But rest of the week is going to be sticking to plan. Got a class booked Thursday, and going to try and just run around more with DD. No wine, no crisps, no bread. More water. Meal plan and stick to it!

I've got a night away with DH in just under four weeks, and I would like to lose 2lb for that. So 1/2lb a week. Got a suspicion I'll gain or at best maintain this weekend though (read: two takeaways), but hopefully a few days of careful calorie tracking and all the water will help.

Can't believe it's almost March 🤯

Cloudberries123 · 27/02/2023 13:55

Happy Monday everybody, I'm loving the intentions and positivity as well.

AutisticLegoLover Have you ever tried broccoli roasted in the oven with oil and salt? Soooooo good.

And yes, I do read along with some other weight threads but this is the only one where I post. Just had the right tone for me, no shade to any other thread 😊

To the PP who was after more wholesome TV, we've been surprised by how good Clarkson's Farm is. My DP was initially very snooty about him but we're both a bit in love with the series now - definitely try it if you want funny, gentle reality TV. I know so much about crops and lambing now 😆

Right, a busy workday after a busy weekend, so I feel I'm still catching my breath. Been very active today so enjoying some afternoon rest with the little one.

Breakfast - doubled up as I knew it was going to be a mad morning (can't eat at work). Rye toast, cheese, tea. WATER. Prawn sandwich and coffee a bit after.

Lunch - Caesar salad, yoghurt, date bar, coffee, water

Snack - tea

Dinner - tbc

I'll be very cross if I don't lose this week as I've been sticking to the no sugar Lent and it's making life boring!

AutisticLegoLover · 27/02/2023 14:15

I'll try that broccoli, thank you. I'm not a fan of vegetable spaghetti so I'd probably just stick to a smaller portion of my usual pasta dish. Wednesday is due to be a cooking day but how much I'll get done I don't know.

It's a beautiful afternoon here but boy am I hungry. 6.6 miles done so far which might account for the hunger. All hills too. I'll be adding another 2.5 miles before the afternoon is out.

Oat cakes with a scrape of butter and damson jam for lunch.

greenspaces4peace · 27/02/2023 14:23

Trip cancelled due to snow!!
okay short happy dance :)

buzzofthebumblebee · 27/02/2023 14:56

B - salmon & avocado & leftover broccoli
L - veg soup
D - prawn & butternut squash red thai curry
S - stewed apples (no added sugar)
Did kettlebells this morning. Not a fan, but good for me I am sure.
Rather grumpy today - direct result from having had alcohol yesterday I think. Plus busy weekend so bit tired.
Last day of the month tomorrow.

Welcome new people. Stick at it the rest of us!
