Hello & Welcome

Carrying on from LOSE IT! November 2022 this is where people who wish to lose or maintain with accountability check in daily. People can access support and general advice around a healthy lifestyle (food/health/wellbeing) We generally have WOW - Weigh on Wednesday to track progress.

December is a tough month to navigate food wise especially if you’re wanting to lose. By making sensible choices without total deprivation you can hopefully mitigate any Christmas excess.

We all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, you’ll be strengthening your immune system and maintain a sense of well-being. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

You just need to find what works for you! Me personally? I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Are you in? What’s your plan? Whatever you do, Good Luck!

@Smugsmaug you know, I was just thinking about possibly doing a sugar ban until Christmas! It's within sight now so doesn't feel impossible. We'll see. I might chicken out!

TheRealHousewife · 05/12/2022 09:20

Good Morning Everyone 😊

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎄… 5th already 😮

@Cloudberries123 The weekend usually are more difficult to navigate. When the regular routines are relaxed and we’re busy doing other stuff. What about getting a protein packed breakfast/first meal or if no time for that taking nuts to snack on?

On the rare occasions I do drink alcohol unfortunately extra food always features @Smugsmaug . Alcohol really ramps up my appetite and dissolves my resolve 😬

@fallfallfall its always disappointing to see higher numbers. You’re doing all the right things so hang in there. Our bodies are awkward at times.

@milkfromthesleepycow Well done on running in the colder weather 👍👏

@AutisticLegoLover Enjoy your Costa trip with your dd 👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken So sorry to read you’ve walking pneumonia. Be kind to yourself and get plenty of rest, hot drinks and nutritious foods/soups (your menu todays sounds very nice!) Hope you soon feel better and recover ❤️

Welcome to the thread @Jenasaurus WOW you’ve done incredibly well so far this year. Well done and congratulations 👏👏👏 Like you’ve already discovered, the last bit of weight can be the most stubborn but it’s not impossible. Keep going. When I lost my first chunk of weight my weight loss stalled for about a year 😮. I kept tweaking this and that (around 1100 - 1000 cals), then I starting losing again. I just kept going as I assumed I was at my bodies set point and I didn’t want to gain anything back. Good luck!

Menu
Meal 1 - 3 Egg Mediterranean omelette.
Meal 2 - Roast chicken & vegetables.
Tea, black coffee and water.

thank you for the welcome @TheRealHousewife I had a little set back at the weekend as had a christmas night out with my eldest, the roast turkey meal was 1680 calories alone, add to that some wine and a cheeseboard and its a little of a naughty one, still low carb as didnt eat the potatoes, my DS was happy to snaffle these! Back on track now though

fallfallfall · 05/12/2022 17:45

Starting the week high, 148.4
disappointed but focused.

TheRealHousewife · 05/12/2022 19:00

@Jenasaurus WOW the cc of your turkey dinner was high! Not shocked that you ate it just agog at how many calories are in it.

@fallfallfall You can do it! We are all behind you. OAN how is your mouth now? All healed?

Evening all. Feels like the thread has whizzed on since over the weekend, I'll try and catch up later but I slept so terribly last night I think I'll be asleep by 8.30.

We had an enjoyable enough weekend, had our first Christmas dinner yesterday, but today I feel flat as a pancake. Overwhelmed, unfulfilled, anxious as hell; generally not a happy person to be around.

Stayed relatively on track today though, in spite of what I wanted to do:
Lunch - cup-a-soup, veggies and a dairylea triangle 😁
Dinner - chilli con carne leftover from last week, with chips and some grated cheese
Snacks - probably more tea than is sensible. And I had a couple of small handfuls of Doritos that DH bought on his beer-fueled walk home from the pub last night - but I didn't finish them which I could well have done!!

Wishing everyone a happy week!

In hind sight they gave me 4 large roasted potatoes in beef dripping, roasted honey glaze parsnip and carrots, pigs in blankets and a massive yorkshire, of the above I ate 1/4 of the yorkshire, 1 potato and 1 carrot, so think I may have reduced my intake, although just checked and the cheeseboard was over 1000 calories too! Next time I will have something from the childrens menu :)

Jenasaurus · 05/12/2022 21:35

Today's food has been

Scrambled egg on 1 slice of nimble whole meal bread, grilled tomatoes and a benecol (for my cholesterol)

Lunch was Waitrose Kerian inspired chicken biryani with carrots. broccoli and cauliflower

Dinner was 25g cashew nuts, a small chunk of cheddar and a Skyr yoghurt

Treat was a cappucino from Macdonalds while the rest tucked into naughty stuff

I shared a bubble tea with my DD

Total cals = 1185 Total carbs 80g

Pleased with my protein today which I am consious I have to increase to protect burning muscle. 64.2g of protein, but slightly high on the fats due to the cheese and egg. overall OK though :)

fallfallfall · 05/12/2022 23:17

@TheRealHousewife, the mouth: no pain able to brush my teeth and eat anything really, but there is something sharp/hard rough?? that i can feel with my tongue. I see the dental group on the 13th. they mentioned the whole process from start to finish is about 9 months.
i walked faster and my knees are speaking to me at night. just a bit sore.
B: oatmeal with stewed fruit
L: soup (my 1.5 lbs of ground beef made 12 servings of soup. loads of veggies of course but not high in calories i suspect)
S: chili on a bed of spaghetti squash.
no snacks and drinking my fluids.
@Jenasaurus i should be following your example and counting the calories, i have the app just not the desire at this point.
drumming up the energy to finish off the christmas cards (which turned out nicely) all gifts ordered some delivered, some with amazon, and some here to mail out.

TheRealHousewife · 05/12/2022 23:51

@ImALittlePea Sending a hug. I know only too well the awfulness that anxiety brings. It’s not a comfortable state. I hope you’re fast asleep and getting your much needed rest and recuperation. You’ve had a tough few weeks/months with all the illnesses etc. Quality sleep is the best medicine all round ❤️

@Jenasaurus Its good you’ve got an eye on the cc’s. I’m all for eateries to display cals on menus but I know it isn’t universally liked.

@fallfallfall Great you’re not in pain! Hopefully the rough bit will be easily remedied 👍

I’ve been finishing off putting trimmings up and got a second wind (very rare) hence posting at this ungodly hour. Looking forward to feeling sleepy 💤

Thank you @TheRealHousewife it really has been an intense end of the year, my nerves have taken a bashing and it's starting to manifest. I feel quite alone IRL but trying to start talking about it; wish I could 'snap out of it' but it's not always possible. I went to bed at 8.30 last night and will likely do the same again tonight.

I'm with you there on the calorie counting desire, or lack thereof @fallfallfall it's SO helpful to keep on track but.. effort..

Today's meals:
Lunch - ate at play centre with DD, had a salad with falafel and houmous, and only a couple of pilfered crisps
Dinner - as yet unplanned. Mood affecting motivation, and cupboards on the thin side. Hoping to glean some inspiration from somewhere. All I know is, I'm determined to cook and not get takeaway, but it may well be a beige-ish freezer dinner. I'll update later 😬🤞

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 06/12/2022 19:08

I haven’t been posting recently because I got covid as of last Thursday and have been sofa or bed bound for the past few days.

Breakfast for past few days, peanut butter and marmite on toast.
lunch: soups, minestrone or tomato and lentil fresh sainsburys soup - half carton over 2 days plus toast.
dinners: veggie tofu stir fry one night, quiche and jacket potato and veggies, pukka vegan minced pie plus veggies and jacket potato.
having lentil pie plus stir fry veggies and rice tonight.
have been mainlining all sorts of rubbish including 2 tubes of Pringles plus chocolate bars and Nakd bars.
snacks: baby bel lights and 4 tangerines, nectarines, apricots.
weighed myself and strangely only put on 2-3llbs which really surprised me!

ImALittlePea · 06/12/2022 19:21

Sorry to hear that @GonnaGetGoingReturns I hope you're feeling much better soon!

Update as promised - dinner was baked potato, beans, cheese and four Quorn nuggets.

milkfromthesleepycow · 06/12/2022 19:43

Hope you get over covid quickly @GonnaGetGoingReturns. Good food choices for meals despite the lurgy 👏

@ImALittlePea sleep is a good healer. I think another early bedtime will do you the power of good

@TheRealHousewife my tree isn't up yet. Scheduled for Thursday

I haven't stopped since I opened my eyes this morning! Had managed to forget it was our works Xmas lunch today. Turns out I'd ordered a fried chicken sandwich and chips 😱 so dinner was ravioli (small) and salad (huge!). Todays my off day from running/ gym so bad timing

Cloudberries123 · 06/12/2022 20:40

Yes, sleep is the best healer milk and LittlePea. We've been doing round 2 of the lurgy here and were in bed before 9 last night. Really nice actually!

I feel heavy too RealHousewife and I'm sure I won't have lost anything this week. Tonight has been an easy quick dinner of chicken, chips and salad, all oily and salty so will probably be retaining some water. Ah well.

This is about health and it's more healthful to rest and eat when ill.

@milkfromthesleepycow - thanks re the covid wishes! For the past few days I haven’t really felt like fruit and veggies (all the chocolate I bought and I blame Sainsburys Chop Chop delivery too! The Nakd bars though mostly date and sweet I didn’t feel too bad about having!

Your Christmas lunch and choices seem good.

@ImALittlePea - thanks re covid wishes too! I saw you had similar to what I do sometimes slim a soup (is it Bachelors Minestrone, after ages of not finding them I found them in sainsburys!) and a Dairylea triangle.

I do think this time of year warm carby food is essential, I love baked beans with a baked potato.

@Cloudberries123 - I see you’re sick too and family. Hope you feel better soon. I’ve found it’s pointless going completely healthily when sick, the last thing I want is a salad, but my mum said she’s popping over tomorrow and leaving food in a cool bag outside the front door including a healthy salad she does with avocado and beetroot and she’s popping in briefly to see the cat (and sanitising but not seeing me!) so I’ll see how I go with that!

fallfallfall · 07/12/2022 01:30

the grey clouds and chilly weather really has me eating the wrong stuff.
dh is getting me out and i've increased my speed (18 minute mile) added in hand weights on days when my knees are not complaining and finish off with 10 minutes on the rowing machine.
i'm grateful for what i'm getting done and looking forward to being in that sunny capable zone.
too much bread today, and salt...

milkfromthesleepycow · 07/12/2022 06:23

WOW 1.7lbs off, all of it fat according to fancy scales.
Very pleased with that. Heads back in the game 😁
Good luck to all the WOWers

Allthegoodnamestakken · 07/12/2022 07:09

Hello all, my eating has gone out the window unfortunately, DH dragged me off to hospital yesterday as my cough and breathing was getting worse. Thankfully they only kept me for a couple of hours and sent me home after some injectable antibiotics with an inhaler to take alongside the medicine I already had. Strangely I don't actually feel that sick no real fever, aches etc. I just can't move without coughing.
Today I am in bed and already bored out my mind and wondering if I should sneak out of it this afternoon to roast the chicken I took out to defrost yesterday morning. I don't have much of an appetite but as I am going absolutely no movement and the only thing i've been eating is bread I don't think i'll even get the weight loss perks of illness

AutisticLegoLover · 07/12/2022 07:17

63.5kg this morning and I'm at the end of my period so it should drop again in a couple of days.
It's so cold here!
Have a good day!

Cloudberries123 · 07/12/2022 07:53

Morning, totally forgot it was WoW today so have been merrily eating breakfast. I'll weigh later and again tomorrow morning 👌🏻

Amazing @milkfromthesleepycow and @fallfallfall and @AutisticLegoLover
Get well soon @Allthegoodnamestakken and roast the chicken if you've got the energy 😁 Easy nutritious protein
