Hello & Welcome

Carrying on from LOSE IT! November 2022 this is where people who wish to lose or maintain with accountability check in daily. People can access support and general advice around a healthy lifestyle (food/health/wellbeing) We generally have WOW - Weigh on Wednesday to track progress.

December is a tough month to navigate food wise especially if you’re wanting to lose. By making sensible choices without total deprivation you can hopefully mitigate any Christmas excess.

We all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, you’ll be strengthening your immune system and maintain a sense of well-being. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

You just need to find what works for you! Me personally? I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Are you in? What’s your plan? Whatever you do, Good Luck!

I've just got into bed and am finally warm for the first time today although my feet haven't warmed up yet. Today has been as follows:

Miles: 13.02
Floors:138
Steps: 31,000
Calories burned: 2834

I don't know how accurate the calories are but Thursdays are a good day for exercise. I walk ds to school and walked back the longer way through the woods and along the canal. Walked up to my mum's, walked round the shops, walked back from my mum's, walked to school to get ds, walked to the train station, walked from the train station through the riverside park to the swimming pool, walked back to the train station, then walked back from the train station to home. I'm tired now.

Food:
Porridge and tea
Kitkat
Ritz with Wensleydale and cranberries
2 big cookies
Quorn ham roll
Hot chocolate
Orange juice
Water

Not great but Thursdays have barely time to sit down between breakfast and bed and I've walked loads so I'm not fussed about the cookies.

TofuonToast · 08/12/2022 21:54

Food today
Tea 50
Salad 500
Satsuma 50
Quiche + salad 600
Chocolate 350
1550
Feel very full and could have done without the evening chocolate but I’d had it planned I’d have my chocolate with Netflix tonight!

I also had a shower in the dark as a treat. Yeah maybe a little weird but it’s so nice!

5k walk
7k run

So let’s talk about herbal teas. I’ve just got into them and they’re a bit of a weight loss win aren’t they ??

So in my shower I was thinking about the things I miss about being slimmer. Not having a big belly. It’s not vanity it’s convenience! Lugging the bloody thing around. Having a gap at the top of my thighs. No chafing! Less aches and pains from extra weight on joints. Feeling comfortable in clothes… I want all the things back!

I will have all the things back…

Thanks @TheRealHousewife for your lovely comments. I notice everyone says what a rockstar you are and I agree!

milkfromthesleepycow · 09/12/2022 06:18

Amazing step count @AutisticLegoLover !

AutisticLegoLover · 09/12/2022 07:14

Thank you. Today will be nothing like that as apart from the school run I'm having a day at home. 63.1kg this morning. I'm not sure how realistic 60kg is by Christmas but I'll do my best.
Have a great day and keep warm.

ImALittlePea · 09/12/2022 09:16

Morning all

4oz down today. Wanted to lose a bit more, but it's probably fair, and a loss is a loss! Still under 10st, just.

Yesterday's day at hospital was loooong but I only caved a little on the food front; I had an apple and some crisps in the car, a low-ish calorie wrap for lunch, and I had two (very necessary) Costa's. I got DS a McDonald's on the way home and didn't get anything for myself, and had a freezer dinner when I got in of sweet potato chips, BBQ chicken dippers and peas.

I'm getting close to not caring much about what goes in my mouth as Christmas draws closer 😬 but I'm going to try my hardest to lose a little more before school breaks up next week. Hoping to stick to light lunches and vegetable-focussed dinners as much as I can, but as I know it'll all but go out of the window once the holidays are here, I just find it harder to stick to it; in my mind I may as well just enjoy myself and hit the big reset come 1st Jan. I don't know why my mind wants to do it this way rather than dig that little bit deeper to minimise the Christmas damage?! Does anyone else find this? (Does that even make sense?)

Today's plan:
Lunch: cup-a-soup, veggies and a dairylea triangle (I hope 😬)
Dinner: ...out for dinner and drinks tonight 😁

Cloudberries123 · 09/12/2022 21:31

Let's see if I can remember what I've eaten today!

Breakfast - handful of leftover mixed sweets. Shop sandwich and coffee

Snack - banana

Lunch - pizza, as well as a few crackers and houmous while I waited. Water

Snack - box of mixed popcorn and sweets leftover from night before. Lemsip

Dinner - bacon and spinach spaghetti, the only homemade meal for a while and not particularly nutritious at that! Biscuit, chocolate pudding, water. Another Lemsip

I'm onto Round 2 of this horrible cold/chest infection, and the baby is sounding like she's got the same cough developing. I'm craving carbs and fat, and while I wish there was more nutrition and less UPF in the recent days, I'm too knackered and uncomfortable to care too much at the minute!

Reading everybody's posts with interest and looking forward to feeling better x

AutisticLegoLover · 09/12/2022 22:11

Get well soon @Cloudberries123 and eat what you can.

I've not had a good evening because it was the school fair. Da didn't want to go when I dropped him off this morning but had changed his mind by pick up. So a few sweets then he gave me his mint matchmakers and although there's some left I've eaten most of them. Oven chip barm for dinner and a big bag of space raiders. Breakfast was porridge and tea, lunch was ritz and Wensleydale with cranberries. So not terrible but not great either and my stomach is not happy with my choices. Sugar from sweets makes me very bloated and I think the chip barm although small was too heavy. Ah well.

I've ended the school week on 50 miles and 33.5k steps ahead of the person in second place on the Fitbit competition. Next week will be tough on the fitbit bingo because it's based on what you've done the week before and the more you do the higher the challenges. I'm making the most of it because the Christmas holidays will be poor in comparison.

It's the weekend! What are your plans? We are doing the tree and general Christmas decorating🎄

Hailingfrequenciesopen · 09/12/2022 22:25

Well done all and good luck to us all!

I was digging in my dressing table and found my old Scottish Slimmers card. I am lighter now than my starting weight when I joined way back then! So yay!

Bad, I had to re-lose it all but at least it's going down. 2-3 stone to go. I'm trying to maintain til the new year. Being realistic for myself.

fallfallfall · 10/12/2022 01:29

@Cloudberries123 looks like the perfect blend of sugar and salt; important electrolytes when your ill.
I hope the little one doesn’t get too sick.
I’m walking faster and my spirits have lifted a tiny bit. Food choices have a ways to go.

Smugsmaug · 10/12/2022 17:03

Glad your spirits have lifted a bit fallfallfall, keep being kind to yourself 💐

Well done on those losses! And getting steps in!

I’ve been sticking to it, lots of spicy veggie soups to warm me up, and date and pear crumbles to cheer me up (sugar free and low carb version). Today managed a quick walk in the cold, an attempt at Xmas shopping, now roasting up a lamb joint, and lots of roasted veg side dishes so that it feels extra indulgent. Reading and tv to catch up on this evening, and basically just being extra cosy and lazy! I’m starting to dread the Xmas treats over the break a little bit, as I really don’t want to go back to my unhealthy ways again, but I know there’s only so many times I can keep politely declining

Smugsmaug · 10/12/2022 17:05

And get well soon! Sorry to hear so many are poorly atm x

fallfallfall · 11/12/2022 17:11

Potentially down .3 for the week
Some water retention from yesterdays soup which is made with consomee.
thankful for the exercise but need more fortitude to push away extras.
stay strong everyone Jan1 is upon us, longer days and hopefully sun.

ImALittlePea · 11/12/2022 18:28

Well... This weekend has been a total write-off 😬 ended up with a very very rare hangover yesterday, couldn't face eating a single thing all day. Have had a bit of stodge today (cheese toastie and then a bacon and cheese puff) and some fruit but that's it since Friday night. Got homemade spaghetti bolognese tonight though which will feel more wholesome than the takeaway pizza I had imagined we would get. I'd (happily) forgotten how truly awful hangovers were! Bleurgh 😂

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/12/2022 18:33

Too icy all day to run. Tried twice and skited along the pavement for 10 metres before (sensibly) turning back.
Now very grumpy and I want chocolate raisins!!!

fallfallfall · 11/12/2022 19:15

thank you @ImALittlePea , spaghetti sauce out of the freezer and the half spaghetti squash is looking fine (cooked it up a few days ago, had half already, but surprised it hasn't gone fuzzy).
and thank you @milkfromthesleepycow for reminding me why i'm going to the indoor track...yup skidding along is NOT my idea of fun (although as a youngster i loved it huge run and long slide).

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/12/2022 19:22

Just checking in. My DM dropped over some veggie bean meal which I’ve had Friday and tonight with avocado, grated cheese and rice.

Have been having minestrone soup and half a tub of Charentais Carrot soup and Cauliflower and Kale and cheese soup (half carton). Past few days had peanut butter and marmite on toast and oatso simple with blueberries one morning. Also had tangerines and nectarine for snacks. Have wolfed down whole tubs of Pringles and the odd crunchie bar.

Tried on some mom jeans and though they’re a bit tight I think if I cut down I can lose the weight.

@milkfromthesleepycow - that’s a pity re the pavements (I did jog last year when it started sleeting/snowing. The chocolate raisins are deserved I think.

@Cloudberries123 - you seem similar to me but I’ve had covid (negative test now), why we’re craving carbs is anyone’s guess, I’m guessing it helps with the recovery! Get well soon!

@TofuonToast - I have green tea mid morning and decaff green after 2pm plus camomile tea in the evening. Agreed it does help with weightloss. I also find orange squash helps with hunger but sugar free (light) Ribena, hot should help too.

@ImALittlePea - if I get hangovers I always swear off alcohol but carb and stodge help loads to soak it up.

AutisticLegoLover · 12/12/2022 07:08

Morning all. I've a busy few days ahead preparing for both Christmas and dd's birthday. My total last week was 60.37 miles and I'm quite happy with that. It will drop to about 25 in the school holidays and means I need to be more careful about what I eat. I can't be bothered to make porridge this morning so it will be toast. I'm waiting until Wednesday to weigh but I'm not expecting any loss.
Hope everyone has a good week. Don't forget to drink lots of water!

AutisticLegoLover · 12/12/2022 07:13

I think I'm going to have to be more realistic in my goal for Christmas. It's less than 2 weeks now so I'm aiming for 9st 10lb by Christmas Eve and then to try and maintain it throughout the holidays. We go on holiday in February half term and my goal is 9st 3lb for then to lessen the swimwear trauma.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 12/12/2022 07:55

Sorry to hear so many of you are ill, I'm finally on the mend. Not a great start for the day though I ate an entire lindt chocolate santa, I just have no self control when chocolate is in the house which is why i don't usually buy it.
Not going to help me get that last 1kg off and hit my target by Christmas Blush
I'm still not healthy enough for proper exercise but I'm going to try a gentle dog walk and see how I manage

ImALittlePea · 12/12/2022 09:43

Happy Monday all!

I hope those of you who have been poorly are starting to feel better.

I decided to weigh myself this morning after a weekend of hardly eating - I know a hangover-induced fast is by far the worst way to drop weight but you've got to find the silver linings, right?! Anyway, 2lb off since Friday. It's spurring me on to really stick to plan this week and try to maintain that artificial loss/lose a little bit more.

Today's plan:
Lunch - cup-a-soup, veggies, cheese triangle - obviously! Greek yoghurt to follow.
Dinner - jacket potato, southern fried chicken steak, veggies or beans

Plenty of water and plenty of digging deep for the week!

Cloudberries123 · 12/12/2022 14:54

Checking in again as we finally seem to have turned a corner with the lurgy, although the baby is still coughing a lot. I have been reading every day and privately bemoaning why I was so obsessed with the stodgiest, sweetest and saltiest foods over the past week or so. Survival mode... Amazingly now that I really am starting to feel better, I'm interested in cooking again, and in eating nutritiously for weight loss. Just goes to show that it's OK to listen to your body when it says it needs something extra.

I'm being realistic and hoping to just maintain under 98kg throughout December and Christmas now. Bit disappointed with not having hit 95 yet, but if I can keep it off forever, it's more of a win than a temporary big loss!

Breakfast - Lemsip, BLT and coffee

Snack - pear, quite a few mints

Lunch - bean tortilla wrap, coffee

Dinner - out with friends for the first festive meal of the month! I've chosen veggie options

This afternoon need to work on drinking lots of water and resting to finally kick this cough.

Onward everyone! 💪🏻🎄

TheRealHousewife · 12/12/2022 16:03

Good Afternoon All

Hope you all managed to keep warm over the icy cold weekend! My groin strength is getting there although I’m curtailed as to what I can do at the moment. Even trying to turn a tap on and off causes pain! In the new year I’m going to concentrate on building up some strength!

I don’t think I’ll weigh this week as on pain meds which mess with my weight one way or another 😬

Not read the updates since last post but will try to catch up later.

Menu
Meal 1 - Falafel with spinach & feta. Paprika hummus & Tzatziki. Blummin’ lovely if I say so myself!
Meal 2 - Hake, mash & calvo nero.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Peace & love ❤️

Oh @TheRealHousewife I somehow missed you'd injured yourself? Take it easy ❤️ your meal 1 sounds right up my street!

That's the best attitude @Cloudberries123 when we are in tune with our bodies it certainly does tell us what is needed. I'm glad to hear you've turned a corner.

Onwards and inwards indeed!

AutisticLegoLover · 12/12/2022 21:44

Such a lot of poorly people and injured people too at the moment both on here and people I know. Get well soon!

Today has been a good day baking and wrapping presents until my eldest upset me but I'm trying to compartmentalise that.

Food wise. 2 lots of toast, one with butter, one with Nutella that's solidified it's that cold in this house. 2 yogurts, cheese and tomato pasta and about 6 cadburys heroes. 9.22 miles walked.

The cake is a Madeira cake and will be decorated in a Sakura theme. It's chilling ready to be crumb coated and iced and decorated tomorrow.

I really fancy a Baileys tonight. Must buy some tomorrow. I don't drink normally but I like a knock off Baileys at Christmas.

fallfallfall · 12/12/2022 23:25

@AutisticLegoLover , i bought chocolates for my mom which were bailey's filled. she too likes bailey's in the am with her coffee...she turns 90 next week figured the bailey's chocolate treats would make up for my brother and i clearing her house of 90% of all alcohol ;).
you're cake baking skills sound amazing!! it takes all that i have skill wise to make 4 dozen cookies that look similar.
@TheRealHousewife please explain "groin strength" did you pull the muscle or tendon?
exercise continues to be decent but food choices need ongoing will power.
