Hello & Welcome

Carrying on from LOSE IT! November 2022 this is where people who wish to lose or maintain with accountability check in daily. People can access support and general advice around a healthy lifestyle (food/health/wellbeing) We generally have WOW - Weigh on Wednesday to track progress.

December is a tough month to navigate food wise especially if you’re wanting to lose. By making sensible choices without total deprivation you can hopefully mitigate any Christmas excess.

We all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, you’ll be strengthening your immune system and maintain a sense of well-being. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

You just need to find what works for you! Me personally? I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Are you in? What’s your plan? Whatever you do, Good Luck!

TofuonToast · 30/12/2022 09:09

fallfallfall · 30/12/2022 01:48

me again:
kitchen will be closed as soon as i finish drinking my hot lemon water with honey.
D: saag paneer over steamed cauliflower and chicken (265 calories)
30 minute fitness walking done and plan to do another 15 minutes...nothing extreme
tomorrow i need to plan getting my fiber supplement incorporated into my meal planning.

How do you close the kitchen if others are still eating from it? Looking for tips!

Just de-lurking to send you sincere condolences @TheRealHousewife on the sudden loss of your DM. Especially with the history you so honestly outlined, there is far more to process than the shock of grief. Sending you warmest thoughts. As always you sound so sensible, level, and just amazing really. You are one incredible woman. I really admire you. I am not surprised to have opened the weight loss thread today after a long time to see it still in full swing, and you being as positive, supportive, and selfless as ever. May all your New Year Dreams come true. You deserve everything and more.

Massive congrats too to you @milkfromthesleepycow - your 2022 stats are just amazing. Hard work and perseverance have more than certainly paid off. You are an inspiration.

I will be re-joining you on Jan 1st if I may. I remember fondly the 6 months I was a regular member of the Lose It group. I felt so strong and positive (mentally), got so fit physically, and lost 2 stone as well. Thought I was transformed - but alas, my negative thoughts stirred again, and emotional eating has cranked up. Don't know why my MH has taken a nose-dive. Lots of things to blame it on, but ultimately it's my responsibility so I shall dig deep and get support there, plus get my food back under control.

I may not post regularly - and if I do I may just do a quick update without namecheck. Please don't think this as selfish of me - far from it - but all I will be able to manage without fear of sounding all depressed and bringing you all down !! I have a tendency to over-share and ramble and conscious I come across as needy, so will not post much.

I'm going to be cutting out the crap - processed carbs, crisps, sugar, chocolate, and alcohol. I will be feeding myself wholesome nourishing proteins and vegetables, and treating myself with time to try out new recipes and combinations. Evening drinks will be camomile tea or lemon hot water. I have a fitness goal for April, so need to start running more regularly. I will book some counselling sessions. I will block out diary days to do some spring de-cluttering and cleaning. I will endeavour to find a yoga class (think I need this very much - pilates is great, but need to calm my mind and stretch).

You are amazing @TheRealHousewife - thank you.

Here's to a Happy New Year !

fallfallfall · 30/12/2022 14:46

@TofuonToast more a mental vs physical closure in my home.
it’s my mindset, I’m done zero snacking, drink my water or tea (herbal).
I did tell dh though, just to ensure he didn’t make us a snack (which he occasionally needs for himself as my low cal meals are too low cal for him).

fallfallfall · 30/12/2022 14:55

Hi @buzzofthebumblebee i look forward to “seeing” you on Januarys thread!
sounds like a good plan of action.
you and do this, you can get into the mindset and unpick :).
@milkfromthesleepycow well done really really well done!

fallfallfall · 30/12/2022 19:15

another day with motivation: multivit taken ;)
B: boiled egg, pan fried potatoes, and orange segments. 288 cal.
the water bottle is still full, i'm about to start in on that.

30 minutes of fitness walking done.

fallfallfall · 31/12/2022 01:24

ok i would call it a successful day, another few minutes of exercise needed but calories wise i held it together 1000 or under.
L: jamie oliver classic minestrone soup
S: a calorie dense recipe to use up some turkey measure out to 450 calories
snuck my extra fiber powder in with my soup...

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2022 07:39

Morning all!

@fallfallfall you seem so on it, well done!

@milkfromthesleepycow what an incredible year you've had! Excellent round up, and so inspiring ❤️ huge well done!

Nice to see you again @buzzofthebumblebee 👋

I hope things are ok with you @TheRealHousewife, all things considered.

And hi to all others as well!

So... My round up!

Weighed in this morning.. 4lb on over Christmas, but I'm actually super happy with this! I have thrown all caution to the wind and truly let my hair down over the last fortnight, I've had a bloody lovely time with my family, and I'm all set to restart, refocus and reset as of tomorrow.

Started the year 11st 8lb, and have ended on 10st 2lb. My lowest weight (pre Xmas holidays, two weeks ago) was 9st 12lb. I'm so proud of myself for the journey I've taken to lose this weight, it feels like a "forever" loss (although I know, you never actually know with these things). My mental health has been up and down over the year, and my physical health took a battering over autumn, but I managed to stay with it, which is a big comfort when I look back and also into the future.

One thing I can say, and I know others have already said and will be feeling it too, that the enduring support on this thread is a major factor in my success. I am so thankful for everything - the cheering, the solidarity, and the understanding throughout. The lack of judgement is really something special, especially in a world where social media can be so spiky. I'm so grateful I stumbled upon this thread this time last year, and I'm sorry to say that you're stuck with me for good now 🥰

Looking forward.. goal number one is to lose this Christmas gain (note: NOT DAMAGE 😉). I think my ideal weight is going to be around 9st 10lb, maybe even 9st 7lb once I get moving more, but in reality I'll probably have a goal 'range' that I'll be happiest in. I'm pretty comfortable with my eating habits that have formed and improved over this year. I am going to focus more on exercise and getting fitter now. I'm starting Zumba classes next week, and also planning on at least one brisk walk a week on top to start with; hopefully this will increase as I get fitter and we get into warmer months.

So 2023 is about balance and maintenance for me... well, once I've lost a few more lb! 😂

Happy new year to you all 🎉❤️

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2022 10:42

@ImALittlePea I okish. It was a tough day yesterday as went to mums to start sorting key documents. Hard day.

You have done marvellously this year! Really fantastic steady progress! Well done 👏

Wonderful thoughts from you all on old years night
Feels like a proper send off to 2022 and laying the foundations to 2023
We've all done so well, especially with the challenges many have endured.
Hugs to you all (I'm off to spruce the house!) and see you next year

Smugsmaug · 31/12/2022 14:28

Happy new year to you all x

fallfallfall · 31/12/2022 17:05

great post @ImALittlePea, it prompted me to look over my chart and crunch the numbers.
overall year upon year my weight is coming down from the highest in 2014 of 193 lbs to fairly regularly in the 150's with an aim of getting below 141 (top of the normal BMI)
last weigh in today 151.7 which is down from december 31 2021, 160.
however in early 2021 i had managed much much better at staying under 150...
i'm not displeased overall and thanks to you lovely lot i got on the calorie counting bandwagon and was able to make a difference.
so goodnight to 2022, i look forward to 2023 with the group and seeing the 140's and 130's.
thank you everyone!!

Cloudberries123 · 31/12/2022 17:39

I've so enjoyed reading everybody's end of year round-ups and feel chuffed at the progress you've made!

I read along for some months before jumping on the Lose It bus in September. At a shocking 100.4kg / 15st something (although I know my pregnant weight was higher) and what was even more shocking was that I HAD weighed that before and come down, then let the weight sneak back on without noticing over a period of some tough years.

At my last weigh-in about 3 weeks ago, I was around 98kg, having spent the autumn going up and down a couple of kilos without any fast progress.

HOWEVER I don't feel this is time wasted, as I've spent much of this time realising what a complex and often unhealthy relationship I have with food. This new understanding will truly help me forever.

I'm starting 2023 with a good feeling about my health and fitness - although I don't have all the answers or even a definite 'plan' for how everything will go.

I've had to accept that hard and fast rules just aren't for me, they are counter productive and can make me unwell if I'm not careful.

But I know what kind of 'way of eating' I want to grow into, and that means mostly whole, unprocessed foods (key word mostly!) with lower carbs and higher fats, avoiding inflammatory things like processed sugar, flour and seed oils.

Even writing that, I feel the twinges of obsessiveness and the eventual rebellion, so I think this New Year will also be about more self-knowledge and compassion.

Long-term goal is to lose about 30kg, but medium is 15kg and FIRST of all I am just going to get down to 95 and keep it off.

Like everybody else, I am so grateful for the impact of this thread, it's been a wonderful addition to my life and I plan to stick around 😁👍🏻

Happy new year everyone x

fallfallfall · 31/12/2022 18:00

@Cloudberries123 👍
heres to 2023 🥂

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2022 18:45

@Cloudberries123 Youve written a most insightful post that has covered some of the more difficult and complex aspects of weight loss … it must have been a tough realisation for you. In writing out what you have and having laid out your own Achilles heel I feel it will help you enormously in going forward. Realistic and sustainable weight loss starts with being honest with ourselves and acknowledging our own weaknesses. Well done 👏👏👏⭐️

@fallfallfall Another great post from an inspiring posse member. You have not only been eating better overall, you’ve increased your fitness and improved your health markers. Congratulations 👏⭐️🏅

Happy New Year 2023 @milkfromthesleepycow @Smugsmaug and everyone else 🥂🔔❤️

I’ve posted a pic of my 2 meals today … admittedly over my CC count but as I’m in credit due to not eating enough this week It’ll be ok. Thoroughly tasty! Kitchen now closed apart from fetching the bubbles later to toast in the New Year🥂

AutisticLegoLover · 31/12/2022 20:27

Checking out of the year with a homemade pizza for a late dinner and a thank you to welcoming me to this thread as a latecomer. This thread helped me get back to a healthy BMI and I'll continue to work towards my goal. I think I said 9st 3lb by February half term. That's less than half a stone away so should be doable.

I hope 2023 is a happy and healthy year for everyone and congratulations for the weight loss so far.

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2023 09:35

@fallfallfall It was tasty if I say so myself 😋 Yours looked delish too!

@AutisticLegoLover You're very welcome and Happy New Year to you too 🥳 Great to read you are now in the healthy BMI bracket 👍 Well done 👏
