10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Yes don't beat yourself up about what could have been.
Borrow my black marker and draw a line under it and then move on.
We can't change what has been but we can make changes going forward. Let's make it count.

Sammysees · 20/03/2024 18:59

It is much more difficult to stay on track when you have 10 stone plus to lose. Because it takes so much longer to lose than someone who say only needs to lose 2 stone. I know I am going to take 2 years ish to get to anywhere near where I want to be. That is a long time to stay on track. We shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves - we are all going to have bad days/weeks. I am feeling motivated right now but who knows how I will feel next week 🤷‍♀️

DuckWithOneWing · 21/03/2024 16:54

Yes, if I'd stayed on track I'd be at my target weight by now! But I'm trying not to think about that and just focusing on what I need to do right now. I'm convinced my tummy already looks smaller but I'm probably imagining it.

Springcat · 22/03/2024 06:40

After some very good advice on a different thread ,I'm going to try to eat 3 meals 2 snacks and stay at 1800 calories.
See if I can get through one day

Springcat · 22/03/2024 06:42

I'm scared that is to much to loose weight on .but I keep over eating most days

You need to take into account you way not need to restrict your calories as much as you think to lose weight. If you can find out what your maintenance calories are at your current weight and height and eat less than that you can lose weight. It may be worth using a calculator like the one I've linked below. Sometimes gradually reducing your calorie intake as you start losing weight may make it easier to stick to. It's a marathon not a race, so make sure it's something you can do in the long term.

If you're already over eating then you don't want to cut down too much as otherwise you won't stick to it. But also you probably don't need to eat as little as you think - 1800 sounds absolutely fine if you're just starting and have loads to lose! You might need to reduce it later when you're closer to your target, but when you're overweight you burn more than you realise just during daily living activities.

I have committed to going to some weird exercise class next week. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but my Zumba class got permanently cancelled so I was looking for something else. This is in the same building so is ready to walk to. It's called "ladies keep fit" and they keep emphasising it's non-contact and suitable for all abilities.

I do 1800 cals a day, so times less but like others have said you don't want to go too low.

How is today going?

Badly. ive gone to bed in disgust, so I don't eat anything else because I'm to lazy to go downstairs for more food ,

Springcat · 22/03/2024 18:58

So this is what I'm struggling with ...well I think
Every morning I wake up with the urge to binge
I just have coffee untill 11 when I give in to the urge to binge and I eat.
I feel angry if I am disturbed
Sometimes I can stop after about 1000 calories.
A couple of hours later ,the urge to binge hits again
Sometimes I give in .so by 3 pm I've no calories left for an evening meal.
Some days I fight it ,and save the calories for an evening meal.
I've gone to bed now because the urge to binge is strong again.
On the plus side I'm managing just about to keep to around 2000 calories a day .. although I'm trying to aim for 1800.so although I'm not gaining weight,I'm not loosing any either ,and most days all my calories are gone by 3 pm

Springcat · 22/03/2024 19:02

I think the 3 times a day that I get the urge to binge ,are what everyone else has as normal ques to eat for a meal
But for some reason ,the feeling that I need a meal ,has magnified in to the feeling of needing a binge .
I just need the feelings to dial themselves down ,so I just feel like it's a meal time ,rather than binge time .

Sammysees · 22/03/2024 20:48

That’s tough @Springcat . I am also a binger. I try not to have the foods in the house that I would normally binge on. I then only have fruit if I really want to eat. I am inherently lazy as well so it has to be quick and easy. I find the fruit pots you can get in supermarkets help me enormously.
It’s my first weigh in tomorrow. Technically I am 2 weeks in but I didn’t have scales until the end of the first week. I am scared. What if I don’t lose?

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/03/2024 09:48

I am a binger too and a massive secret eater. As soon as dd tell me she is out for the evening my first thought is ooo what can I eat!

As soon as I say I am on a diet I want to stuff my face so I tell myself I am eating well for my health.

Would it help to plan what you are going to eat for the day.
I am really enjoying cottage cheese on crackers at the moment as I can have a few of them and it satisfies the crunch and it adds some protein!

It is about finding something to dull that urge. Or sometimes I say wait 30 mins if you still want it have it but mainly I won't.

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/03/2024 09:51

Weigh day and I have lost 1lb.
Start weight 18.10
Current weight 17.12

Try for 2lb this week to hit the stone!

I am a binger too and a massive secret eater. As soon as dd tell me she is out for the evening my first thought is ooo what can I eat!

I used to be like this but it has got better than it was (still haven’t completely beaten it though). I think it’s the combination of shame, deprivation and feeling of being judged that we experience like a straitjacket. When that is removed it sets off an almost panic response. “I’ve only got 2 hours of freedom before the jacket goes on again. How much can I pack in in that time?” This is accompanied by massive fear. What if I get caught?

The 30 minute trick is helpful for me. I can have anything I want, nothing is being withheld from me, I can choose to have it in 30 minutes time but I don’t want to be governed by my impulses. I don’t want to binge or see the evidence of binges (being confronted by empty packets and bottles adds an additional layer of shame to the original). If I choose to have cheese and biscuits I don’t need to go on to demolish the entire wedge of Brie. I want to make conscious choices, not be swept along on autopilot blocking out conscious thought just sedating myself with food. It’s really unfair that doing something so bad for us relieves negative emotions in the short term! But it is similar to other addictive behaviours and it’s very difficult to get a handle on. The more you get control, the easier it becomes, but watch out as it’s incredibly easy to fall back into old ways.

Well done @Sunshineandrainbow That stone is within your grasp.

Sammysees · 23/03/2024 13:03

First week:
SW - 295lbs
CW - 292lbs
Mini target - 252lbs
😬

PreesHeath · 23/03/2024 13:20

Well done @Sammysees that’s nearly quarter of a stone! Six packs of butter gone. Brilliant effort after you consider how tough you found it at first.

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/03/2024 13:50

Amazing @Sammysees let it spure you on.

Sedating myself with food ...yes ,that is what I'm doing ...but why .
Has anyone antidepressants help ..

Sammysees · 24/03/2024 11:05

Hi @Springcat . I am on anti-depressant meds. I have been on them for 5 years. In that 5 years I have put on 8 stone. Now I’m not saying that is the meds. I have PTSD and comfort eat. It has been a really dark time in my life and I only feel now that I am starting to see daylight again. We put so much pressure on ourselves. If I have a binge now it is controlled. I also try not to beat myself up and get back on track and don’t give up.
With regards to binging, I have found that if I only keep low calorie snacks (under 80 calories) and fruit in the house I don’t binge as much. I really like the idea of waiting 30 minutes and I am going to try this moving forward.
Really appreciate all the tips from you all 🙏

DuckWithOneWing · 24/03/2024 20:20

Something that helped me last time I started was I deleted all of the food apps, and I changed my password to something I wouldn't remember. It made it harder to order anything so gave me time to think and decide if I really wanted to.

I've had a good week and lost 4lbs so I'm happy with that. And I made soup today so tomorrow's dinner is already sorted.

ShinyPikachu · 25/03/2024 07:46

Hi all, I'm back. Been a few bad weeks here with my health and mobility again so I've not been feeling great about things and any sort of calorie counting has been out the window.

I've woken up this morning with my determination back. My mobility will always be an issue but the less I weigh, the slightly better it will be, even if it's not perfect.

Weighed in at 19st 1lb this morning which isn't bad when I've been off the rails. I was 19st 4lb just a couple of weeks ago so I've lost without trying somehow.

Keeping the same start weight which was 19st 11.6lb.

Nice to see you back @ShinyPikachu .

I’ve lost a pound this week, but a bit disappointed as I stuck to my calories, did 10,000 steps a day including 3 runs, 3 swims and 2 gym visits. Feel like I deserve a better result and was hoping to see a new number! But a pound is a pound, so onwards.

Sw 20 st 2
cw 14 stone 1
mini gw 13 st 2
gw 10 st 6

PreesHeath · 25/03/2024 08:28

Also next week is Easter weekend, with two family meals planned, so unlikely to lose much next week.
