10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Not a gain is also a win. Well done. I hope your meds settle down for you.

Hello everyone. I’m slinking back in. Fell off track, but regained my will power over the last few weeks and have recovered my gain. I unsubscribed from the thread for a while as I wasn’t in the right headspace. Well done to everybody keeping going. You are all such an inspiration as I frequently feel defeated. I’ve now lost 5 stone exactly from my highest known weight (I avoided the scales some times, so might not know my heaviest weight). Not quite at the half way point yet, but going in the right direction. Off for a swim now. I struggle with my mood quite a bit. Objectively I know I’ve done well to lose a fair chunk, and should be pleased. But I just feel sad and stressed about how far I’ve got to go, and how much of my life I feel I’ve already lost to this battle. (Sorry for downbeat note!)

Well done for getting back in the game, we all know how hard it is.

Not good with me at the moment. It's so hard not to over buy food in the shops at the moment.

Being surrounded by choc etc at work is also very hard.

But we keep going to get through this period!

ShinyPikachu · 18/12/2023 20:20

All we can do is try our best. Some days will be better than others.

I've actually lost 1.3lb this week and that's me finally back down to where I was at the end of November. Hopefully I don't gain too much over the next couple of weeks. We'll be away visiting family and my mum is such a pusher when it comes to food and drink so it won't be easy.

This time of year is SO hard!! Today I almost felt actual grief for mince pies. I LOVE mince pies. I'm not eating mince pies. I saw a recipe for some healthy mince pies. Way too complicated! So. Goodbye mince pies!

I'm having to shut off from it all. I can't do moderation. These next 2 weeks are going to be challenging. Plus, as mentioned, the people who just want to feed you despite knowing you're dieting. I don't think they'd be offering recovering alcoholics just a small brandy, would they? Maybe they would.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 19/12/2023 04:54

I seem to have developed an allergy to something in mince pies which is curbing their appeal somewhat.

chalkyc2 · 19/12/2023 11:12

Useful @MrTiddlesTheCat 😂

PreesHeath · 19/12/2023 11:49

I too love mince pies so sympathise. Chalky, you are an inspiration - in the past I've been an all or nothing person too. Losing the ability to do the "all" these days, and am now a "better than nothing or nothing" person. Hence the glacial pace of weight loss. MrTiddles, that allergy sounds most convenient. I would say I would like an allergy to cheese, but I know that people with serious allergies would say that it is no joking matter.

My plan is to relax the rules over Christmas starting with a planned mince pie and a glass of sherry at 3pm on Christmas Eve. I shall then eat what I want aiming for moderation and plenty of exercise through to Boxing Day, a day of abstemiousness on the 27th, one final Christmas Food Day on the 28th, when we are having another branch of the family coming over for a buffet and then back on plan by the 29th.

I think I will be able to rein in on the sweet stuff but I usually end up losing the battle against cheese and booze. My last weigh in before the new year was this morning, and I'd just crept under the 15 stone mark. Am aiming to be there or there abouts on the 1st of Jan. Will be happy enough to be back where I am now at the start of the second week of Jan. Here's hoping!

I had set myself a target of 115kg by Christmas. I am in full plateau mode just shy of target which is frustrating me.
I also appear to have injured my foot which stops me from exercising ( I don't know if exercise has had a massive effect on my weight loss but it has been a game changer in terms of mobility, stamina and mental health). So I am feeling thoroughly grumpy and fed up.
My plan is to do my best until Christmas eve, forget about weight loss for a couple of days and get back to it on the 27th.

ShinyPikachu · 01/01/2024 15:01

Happy New Year everyone!

I have been weighing but not watching what I eat for a couple of weeks. I lost 0.4lb over Christmas but I've gained 2.4lb back since then.

However I checked my stats and I still weigh less now than I did this time last year. I didn't lose as much as I hoped over the year but it was an awful year for various reasons.

I'm actually properly starting back on calorie counting today. It's a new year and it's a Monday so I have no excuses, and with a whole host of family birthdays in the next couple of months I need to stay on top of things rather than telling myself I'll wait until after the birthdays like I do every other year.

OP posts:
Sunshineandrainbow · 01/01/2024 15:36

Good for your @ShinyPikachu so easy to say you will wait but better not to.
I feel a new lease of life, I have weighed today and out on 5 pound over xmas.
I am back to work tomorrow and back in a routine which will help.

Really need to focus this year and not let it slip away again.

chalkyc2 · 04/01/2024 09:43

Happy New Year everyone! Checking in after Christmas where I managed to be pretty good on food and exercise. I now am 6.5 stone down with 2 to go. Massive NSV last night when I tried on my ski kit for a trip in February and I can comfortably fit in stuff I wore 10 years ago (I've kept all this time - only wore them the one trip!). I have 3 other sets of kit to accommodate various size bodies so I'm your woman if you need plus size ski wear!!

I need to make some decisions generally about what to do with all my clothes ranging from a size 22 to a size 12. I'm terrified of getting rid of anything - I've been here before and put it all back on. But - I've got no space in any of my wardrobes or drawers.

peonym · 05/01/2024 15:36

Happy New Year everyone!!

Great motivation to see all the post Christmas check ins

Not dieting by any stretch as now almost 20w pregnant but trying to eat well and need to move more this year. Have many wines my loss of a stone since starting this thing so I'm happy enough with that. Have a very strange relationship with food currently, either love it or loathe it. Would hope to find a happy medium at some stage lol.

Hope everyone settling into January without the blues!

Great to see people here, hopefully it's a good year for us all.

That's a great NSV @chalkyc2 I hear you on the range of sizes in the wardrobe. I've got so many clothes that don't fit me that I've held onto and I'm actually tempted to just get rid of them (and keep only special stuff) and then treat myself whenever I need to.

I don't believe that's you hitting the halfway mark in your pregnancy already @peonym - it seems to have flown in. Hopefully the next 20 weeks are kind to you. Smile

I'm absolutely bouncing today. First week of the new year is done and I'm down 5.4lb this week. Which not only puts me over 1 stone lost, I'm down a big number on the scales. I honestly stared at them in disbelief. I haven't seen an 18 on the scales in years.

SW: 19st 11.6lb
CW: 18st 11.3lb SmileSmileSmile
Loss: 1st 0.3lb

My problem this week now will be trying to avoid the trap of "I did well last week, I should treat myself!"

Well done @ShinyPikachu that's a great feeling, isn't it! I always set myself a next mini goal in those situations to try to keep up the momentum.

I've finally weighed in, and I am back up over 15stone again. I'd hoped to be just under but it wasn't to be, so slight gain over Christmas. Not completely undeserved - wine and cheese loomed large.

Mini Goal of 110kg or under by mid April.

Weight stayed steady over Christmas, which was unexpected as I thought it would have gone up a couple of pounds.
Back in the routine and have had a decent loss last week. I am starting to see a pattern of loss then plateau, so the scales will probably stay stagnant for the next week or two.

PreesHeath · 15/01/2024 19:36

How is everyone getting on? It’s hard in the cold and dark, isn’t it?

I’m pleased to be back under 15 stone at long last, and I restarted C25k for the umpteenth time to celebrate. I’ve never got beyond week 5 before, so here’s hoping I can stick it out. I would like to be able to do Park Run eventually, but I’m a long way off yet.

Hi @PreesHeath! It sure is dark and cold and I'm feeling it!! So hard to get out there in this.

I'm also running and finally getting a bit faster! I did one of my longest runs yesterday - 7k including a few hills! My goal is to run twice a week but other than that no real target - I don't like organised runs - too stressful!!

Slowly grinding away with weight loss too. I hit 7 stones off this morning so had a minor private little celebration 😂. 1.5 stone to go....but I'm now thinking about my goal weight. I didn't give it too much consideration when I set it all that time ago - but was surprised (dismayed?!) to see that the tdee calculator site (which I now hate!) tells me I should be ideally about a stone below my target!!! Aaargh!!

qazxc · 17/01/2024 09:32

Scales seem to changing wildly from one day to the next. some days I am four or five pounds lighter, some days I am 4 or 5 pounds heavier. I am still in a calories deficit so it's either water weight, uneven floor tiles or my scales have gone barmy (they are fairly new though so I think option 2 is most likely the culprit).
Weather has turned very cold here but thankfully no rain or ice, so I can still walk to and from work. Seeing progress at the gym, I am able to lift heavier weights, can see some muscles under the flab. My mobility and stamina have improved vastly in the last 3 months.

ShinyPikachu · 17/01/2024 09:52

We're covered in snow and ice here but I've had bloody Covid again so at least I don't have to go outside. I've had a gain this week because of that though and I'm back over the big number. Sad Hopefully when I'm better and getting out again I'll be back down.

qazxc · 17/01/2024 10:38

Sorry to hear you have been unwell @ShinyPikachu . Hopefully you get better soon. Gaining can be very demoralising but it's a marathon not a sprint. Treat yourself with kindness and press the reset button. You will get back down, this is just an unfortunate blip.

PreesHeath · 17/01/2024 12:02

This should be the thread mantra I reckon. Poor @ShinyPikachu getting COVID again is very unfair.

@qazxc My mobility and stamina have improved vastly in the last 3 months.

What an excellent thing to be able to say. I have been going to the gym too - but I can't say I've improved much. I hope the squats and lunges will pay off eventually.

@chalkyc2 7 stones is brilliant. I'd keep going to your original goal for now, allow it to settle (get used to being that weight) and then think about whether it is your final goal. Ideal weight calculators are so generic and don't take into account your build, I don't think. A TDEE calculator says my ideal weight is 130-136lbs. Maybe - I just want to get within the healthy range first. I'm short and stocky with wide hips and shoulders so I don't know yet whether that is a realistic goal for me. Not saying we shouldn't aim high - but getting to your original target will still be a phenomenal achievement.

PreesHeath · 22/01/2024 10:00

Unexpectedly good week this week (hooray!). 4lbs off. Very close to my next mini goal, so if not next week, then hopefully the week after that.

Not many updates here at the moment so hope everyone is OK and fistbumps to those struggling. It's not just you, it's bloody tough.

ShinyPikachu · 22/01/2024 11:33

Another small gain for me this week but I'm still not 100% so between that and the bad weather I haven't been out the house and I've just been too tempted to eat everything I see (I don't know why Covid does this to me but every time I've been hungry non stop while I've been ill).

I'm hoping to get back to normal next week so hopefully I'm fully back on track then.

I have not weighed since my 5lb gain on 1st Jan.
