10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

I weighed this morning as usual, and I'm down to 18.07, which was my target for the end of this month. I'd love to get to 18.06 by Friday. We'll see.

Weather's better, which helps, and my cold is less awful, so I'm not having so much in the way of sweet stuff to soothe my poor throat. And I'm moving a lot more.

My next target is to be 18st by the May Bank holiday, or by the 8th of May (Coronation) at the latest. Six weeks from now, so quite possible.

Pandermonium · 28/03/2023 10:37

Hi everyone.
I've not post anything lately. I've fallen back into bad habits. Not eating through the day. Meal and a chocolate bar at night.
Not drinking enough.
I know I need to do better. Things are so stressful right now. I'm not sleeping.
Maybe I should just try to increase my fluids for now and slowly do each other task.

Well done to everyone that has continued to lose weight! And welcome to all new people 😊

ShinyPikachu · 28/03/2023 11:48

Hi guys, I've not been around because I've had Covid. I weighed in and had a gain but at the moment it's more about just trying to eat without exhausting myself. I'm feeling much better today though so knock on wood I think I'm finally on the mend.

@ShinyPikachu get better soon !

fidgetcube · 28/03/2023 19:41

I weighed on Monday and lost 600g this week. I did eat quite a lot so I’m super happy with that.

caringcarer · 28/03/2023 19:57

Hi, my BMI is 60. I'm 140kg but only 5 foot so look and feel really terrible. I am breathless most of the time. My GP has now accepted diets have not worked, seeing Dietician for meal plans did not work and tablets made me feel ill so now agreed to start me on diet injections. First one is tomorrow morning. I have appointment with nurse at GP surgery. This is really my last hope. I've been told if I don't lose weight I'm likely to have a heart attack. If injections don't work I've got to have the dreaded gastric sleeve operation. I have about 85-90kg to lose, which seems impossible. I have underactive thyroid and was under medicated for over 2 years through lockdowns. Finally on correct dose now.

fidgetcube · 28/03/2023 20:06

@caringcarer welcome. My bmi was just over 60 when I started losing weight at 176 kg. I’m now 153kg. So it’s definitely possible to lose weight. I send you weight loss wishes. I think the thyroid medication being correct with also help.

Beeholder · 28/03/2023 20:11

Hi everyone, hope you don't mind if I join.

I would like to lose 6 stone in total, but planning to just take it step by step. First goal is to get under 19 stone! It's been a tough few years (lockdown, mental health, stress, etc) and I gained 6 stone in the midst of it all. I've tried losing the weight a few times so I'd look better for weddings, events, etc. But my mind wasn't in it psychologically and it just never happened. My mindset has since changed and my focus is on losing weight for myself only - so that I can be healthier, both mentally and physically.

I'm doing calorie counting, started just over a week ago, and I'll be weighing in on Saturdays.

Starting weight: 19st 9.6lbs
Current weight: 19st 5.8lbs
Total loss: 3.8lbs

Brewskipa · 29/03/2023 07:14

Ooh can I join? I need some accountability!

122lbs to lose. Started on Saturday at 20st 5lbs. Down to 19st 8lbs this morning,
doing low carb intermittent fasting. I know this rate of loss will slow down, this is not my first rodeo!

caringcarer · 29/03/2023 15:08

First injection with Ozempic today at GP surgery. I had to do a blood glucose test first. This morning I made a large glass bowl full of chopped up fruit. 2 X apples, a large orange, half a Honey Dew melon, a punnet of raspberries, red, green and black grapes cut in halves and a tin of peaches strained from syrup, rinsed and cut up. All in a little lemon juice and fresh orange juice. I've had one portion with a spoon of low fat Greek yogurt for breakfast and enough for at least 3 more days. I'm having 1/2 tin of low fat/sugar baked beans with one slice of toast for lunch and salmon, 3 baby potatoes and frozen peas for dinner. Slice of cheese after with 2 crackers. I crave cheese. What are others eating to lose weight?

How did you manage to get your GP to prescribe the injections? I thought they were only available on NHS via a tier 3 service at the hospital?

TheQuest1 · 29/03/2023 15:38

Well done on losses ! I am inching forward at a snails pace in the past week it seems despite being really strict with my calories except for one exception on Monday when we went to movies and I had a hotdog and a small salty popcorn which were delicious . No idea of those calories but lunch was just a soup and toast before that .in the past I have taken my own low cal popcorn but I decided to eat the rare small popcorn and not worry about it . Today finally -15 kg in 6 w 3 d which I’m really happy about . I’ll be careful for the next week before going to see my family and I’ll have to keep an eye on it there daily too and use my parents scales so I won’t get nasty surprises on my return . It’s not worth it for me after all the anguish getting this far and with how far I have to still go . My next goal is -20 kg and I’ll try to get there by mid May but we’ll see . Now I’ve gotten to the 5 y ago territory and can’t wait to get to the 8 y ago or so in the next 5 kg off ! Last night I needed a break from the salad and soup routine and actually had a spaghetti bol and a berry mousse that was nice and sharp not sugary ,and today lunch I had a Pret sandwich with chicken and bacon and half a packet of crisps . I enjoyed those but I’ll keep them as an exception. Dinner will be soup and total calories still less than half of my daily estimated usage so a good deficit . Tonight a lot of nice veg and fruit etc arriving in the weekly delivery so a tomorrow it’ll will be a nice salad for lunch and dinner will a chicken stir fry . Im definitely used to my new routine of eating much less and not many things anymore ,and that way it’s a bit easier to do this . I don’t really have cravings and I’m so used to being hungry and just putting up with it or having a tea instead or a protein / veg or berry snack . What I find hard like always is the tiredness and my never ending migraine dizziness bring even worse but I have to do this and I know that as we speak my blood pressure, sugar , cholesterol all must be better already …

TheQuest1 · 29/03/2023 15:41

@caringcarer please let me know how you get on with the injection since it’s something I’ve considered . My private gp does it and I’ve already discussed it when I last went there for something else . Since I’m worried about the side affects inc nausea which I can’t have because it’s my chronic illness warning sign that I have to top up medication and I’ve so far managed by sheer will power I am not going for it atm .

TheQuest1 · 29/03/2023 16:35

@caringcarer I’ve cut out all added sugar generally ( and I don’t use any sweeteners) except for a tiny sprinkle on my coffee I could / will give up too, all carby salty snacks even reduced calorie ones etc so I’m not craving them and have gotten rid of that habit. instead for an afternoon snack I’ll eat a bit of cottage cheese with turkey or similar and carrot sticks or some berries with a few spoons of Greek yoghurt or just have another tea . For now since I want to loose lots to start with to get going properly on most days I’ve cut my calories into about 1/2 or 2/3 at of the estimated total daily amount you can use a calculator online for . During the week in term time when by myself I’ve been doing 16/8 except for two small probio yogurts in the morning and mid day with my meds because I can’t take them into empty stomach and only had a late light lunch around 3 or later . When I felt stuck I’ve tried to have 800/900 calls for a few days . So breakfast in the week is only a 70 cal yogurt , then the second one like that at mid day , lunch normally different types of chicken or a minestrone soup with a piece of toast with a smear of butter and a thin slice or two of cheese then a portion of fruit or berries and a big milky ( skim ) coffee or I have a nice big salad and the fruit/ berries and the coffee then I’ll have a milky tea and maybe some cottage cheese and Turkey / chicken / ham and carrot/ tomato / cucumber etc veg before a late dinner which if I’m doing low calories is a soup or a salad which ever I didn’t have at lunch . At dinner i sometimes eat what ever others are eating but less of it and no dessert except some fruit / berries with yogurt if i feel like I need something . Im generally eating a lot of veg and fruit and lean protein , less carbs , no added sugar and lot less calories and I’ve been hungry a lot in the last 6 w but I’ve also gone out to eat and had some cake and a few chocolates on mothers day , a pancake on pancake day , a hotdog and a small popcorn in the cinema etc exceptions . They’ve been exceptions and I’m fine with that . I have all kinds of food in the cupboards and fridge since I have kids and a husband who are not trying to loose weight they’re all slim and healthy and able to be active and burn it off unlike me with my arthritis and other problems . I’ve gotten to the point that I can have it accessible and I won’t go to eat it , I’m not craving sugar at all but proper food when im really hungry . I was dreaming of spaghetti bol after nothing like that for a couple of weeks so I decided to have it last night and included in my calories and still had a good deficit and finally lost the pesky 1 kg . I roughly meal plan and count what I eat if I know the calories but I will not spend all my time doing it and obsessing over it like in the past . I decide what I’ll eat the day before or in the morning then I don’t want to think about it that much .I do make or or two exceptions a week which seems to work . I need to since this will take a long time to do and I’ll need to keep on eating roughly like this in the future to maintain . I’ve tried the 5/2 before and that doesn’t work for me . On the 5 days I was normally eating up to my limit and then the 800 were awful and progress too slow . This reducing more every day works for me better . I’ve excepted the hungry feeling is here to stay a lot of the time in the next year or how ever long it’ll take me to do this unless I use the shot . I will have to see about that .

caringcarer · 29/03/2023 17:38

@Mydoghealsmyheart, GP offered it because my BMI is 60, I get bad asthma, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, underactive thyroid and I'm breathless most of the time. GP worried I will have heart attack so offered it. I must weigh in with nurse once a month, do blood sugars twice a day and see dietician to do meal plans and she will read my food diary. Lots of hoops to jump through but the drug is expensive and if Ozempic does not work for me I've got to have gastric sleeve so determined to make it work. Not linked to hospital though. Are you sure that is not with Wegovy, not out yet?

Mydoghealsmyheart · 29/03/2023 17:47

Yes, you’re right I think it is Wegovy. Sorry! I’m not sure what the differences are between the medications but I wish you luck caringcarer. It’s great to have a supportive GP too.

caringcarer · 29/03/2023 21:01

Ozempic and Wegovy are essentially the same drug. Ozempic is targeted towards diabetics and Wegovy as pure and simple weight loss. With Ozempic you get lower does, up to 1mg whereas with Wegovy you can get prescribed up to 2.4mg. I am hugely grateful to my GP and practice nurse as I know to buy online chemist one Ozempic pen costs between £159-£200. You can get a £50 one use discount code for the online chemists. I know you can only be on Wegovy for 2 years on NHS. Not been told how long I can have Ozempic. But have been told by practice nurse as long as I am loosing reasonable weight each month it can continue. My target is 1kg per week in first month to get a good start.

TheQuest1 · 31/03/2023 10:08

I’m mainly in a holding pattern now before our trip away and have eaten a bit more than on my light days about -800-1000 cal a day still so would love to loose some more at some point . I’m certainly hungry quite a bit and not eating .
Had a lovely chicken stir fry by DH yesterday and today might have some fish and chips i missed out last week with the kids and lunch will be a nice big salad . This morning just the probio yogurt . I’m hungry as hell atm but since we’re soon going away and I’ll eat more then I’m sure I’ve got to now persist . I don’t want to go backwards but I’d love to loose another 5 kg by mid May ( I’ll have a month after we get back ) when we’ll have a school thing for DS .
how is everyone else doing ?

fidgetcube · 31/03/2023 13:03

I have lost 1.2kg since Monday.

I was upset before my pt session this morning. So I weighed in, was thrilled then did a full pt session.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 31/03/2023 15:59

@FatLadyTriesAgain

Well done, you're on target.

@fidgetcube

1.2kg lost in five days ! Nice. Then you smashed a pt session.

I'll weigh in tomorrow. Probably chase the scales around the floor playing, 'lucky squares' it just means I'll put the scales on different places on the floor if I don't like the first weigh in result !

Today I've has smoked salmon for breakfast dressed with lemon juice and freshly ground black pepper. Followed by a slice of wholegrain toast with Philadelphia light cream cheese St Dalfour low sugar marmalade. I had a cup of tea with semi skimmed milk to drink.

Lunch - two pre-cooked chicken breasts, Bistro Salad (mixed leaves) cherry tomatoes, one boiled egg, a tbsp mayonnaise, half a portion of Mediterranean veg.

Pandermonium · 31/03/2023 18:34

@ToffeeNotCoffee glad I'm not the only one that chases the right spot in the bathroom 🤣

Well done @fidgetcube great loss and doing the PT too!

Well done being so consistent @TheQuest1 you have amazing willpower.

I've not weighed but I have reduced my portion sizes at dinner, using a smaller plate. I've been drinking more, which helps.

TheQuest1 · 31/03/2023 19:05

Well done on your loss @fidgetcube and good luck with next weighing to you both @ToffeeNotCoffee and @Pandermonium . In 6 w I’m now
more used to all this although I do find it hard at times and always will I’m sure . I do get passing cravings for savoury food but normally they don’t last long ( I think I read 15 min somewhere?) and I either have a coffee or a tea or more water ,or a healthier snack if im really starving .Today I could have devoured a kfc twister wrap for dinner but looked up the calories and decided it’s not worth it when I can have the fish and chips that have less calories in the portion I’ll have I just have to wait a bit longer for DH to cook . After having a lot of soup with a bit of toast and salad for most of last week and finally reaching this -15 kg before travelling target I’ve had to eat some normal dinners for a change this week although still at a good deficit in total and a lot of hungry times in the afternoon and evening especially.I’ve had spaghetti bol, vegetable lasagne , chicken stir fry and today will be fish and chips with peas but no scampi we normally add to
it so saving about 90 cals for 2 scampi . Just a yogurt in the morning with meds and a king prawn orzo pasta salad without any cheese or boiled egg this time so that saved me a bunch of cals too . I am going out to lunch tomorrow and I might have a small dessert then . I need to have exceptions to keep going in the long run . Breakfast will be 2 boiled eggs with a piece of toast I think since it’s the weekend when I eat more breakfast . I’ll try to make dinner light to balance it out . Sun we’ll have a chicken roast to celebrate Easter early since we’re travelling and not taking kids big eggs with us so I’ll give them them plus a few little activity type gifts to DD she can use up in the holidays .
mom thinking about how I want my blood test and other numbers to be better next time , how I want to feel different in my body which i already do and how I want to look better at my sons prize giving in May and graduation in the summer and how i want to be eventually hopefully do some activities on holidays and days out with my kids although my migraine dizziness and arthritis pain will affect those too . I have a list and that motivates me . No food and momentary feeling full and not hungry is worth loosing those things for me . It’ll take a lot of hard work and some suffering but nothing worth having comes easy generally . Keep going everyone and hopefully I’ll see you on the other side ! One step
at a time …

Diedre44 · 01/04/2023 09:01

Morning all!

Congratulations on all losses! 🎉🎉🎉

I've managed to lose 5lbs this week and again I'm overjoyed. I have stayed consistent throughout the week, tracked every single item that has passed my lips, signed up to Nutracheck and have got some good steps in this week.

Wednesday I tried on my favourite little size 20 bomber jacket I haven't been able to wear in forever and it fit, I could move my arms in it without fear of it ripping and it fastened all the way. That was a massive boost for me.
Another visual I use as a motivator is my bath towel, seeing the gap get smaller really impresses me and long for the day it wraps round me and tucks in a vertical line...🫣😁

I took myself to our local huge shopping centre this week and bought myself a few size 18 tops in lovely brights for next week as I'll be going away for the long weekend and I've been living in black/grey joggers and hoodies for the last 2 years, they're all stretchy/oversized but I'm sure they'll be fine.

Today is my 3rd injection of Oz..... and happy I've had zero side effects at all, I think the major plus for me is I've been more consistent with sleep as I'm finding I can't keep my eyes open past 10pm and I'm asleep within 10 minutes of my head hitting my pillow. I actually had 9.5 hours sleep on Wednesday 👀👀👀 not had that in years, I usually average around 5.5. Still no sugar cravings either and not one energy drink this week...

So here's to another good week everyone. I know it's going to be tough this week given the school holidays and Easter Bunny is on his way with his basket but just remember if you track whatever you eat you can incorporate chocolate in your allowance. Let's all keep doing what we're doing in our own ways and supporting each other along the way.
We'll all get there 🥰

SW 11/03/23 - 20st 8lb
CW 01/04/23 - 19st 3lb
GW - 9st 7lbs

TheQuest1 · 01/04/2023 09:31

@Diedre44 excellent loss and amazing you haven’t had sideffects from the shot . I worry about it making me nauseous which I can’t tolerate because of my primary chronic illness . I struggle with the hunger pangs but even more being tired etc . I might have to approach my private gp and try the shot …

Brewskipa · 01/04/2023 11:21

Morning everyone! Today marks my first week of low carb and I’ve lost 11.5lbs! That’s after a McDonald’s at midnight last night too 😬

Still 88.5lbs left to go…
