I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

Good luck to the very new starters.

The free scales that came with my juniper order are crapola. Measurements vary by a kilo depending on which way I position them. Same is true for my own salter ones.

I hear ya about the constipation. Lots of fruit seems to be helping me ... Eventually. But it's very different to my normal state of affairs. At least I know it's doing something to my transit time, which is one of the promised effects!

exactly the same so i can just keep going until i get the best reading!!

Goawayangryman · 11/01/2023 12:48

Exactly what I do. I figure it's like blood pressure readings.... Initial ones are always higher so I disregard them ☺️

BryonyG · 11/01/2023 13:20

I'm a week in now and still not noticing any effect so I'm very jealous of everyone who lost their appetite immediately. I'll do my second injection tomorrow so fingers crossed for something to start happening soon.

I have had really vivid and long lasting dreams all week, that's my only side effect - weird but quite fun!

Just over 4 months since starting and almost at the 50 pound mark. Lots more to go but I’m delighted I’ve been able to do this so far.

Wow that's amazing! Well done! I'm starting tomorrow, fingers crossed I get similar results! Smile

Alstoybarn · 11/01/2023 14:42

Just had second doze last night and I've lost 7lb in first week! I'm amazwd by this. It's been effortless too because I'm just not hungry. Long may it last. I have 3to 4 stone to lose!

OzzyOzworn · 11/01/2023 14:51

So far same for me but to be fair it’s only been 24hrs. Many say day 1&2 zero appetite though. Got mine from numan…

Oigetoffmylawn · 11/01/2023 15:00

Day 3 (48+ hours since dose) and 0 appetite today. Had half my usual lunch yesterday, half my usual dinner, a small evening snack (which I didn't eat all of!) and then this morning I had one slice of toast and didn't think about food again until 1pm! It's unheard of for me.

Long may this continue.

OzzyOzworn · 11/01/2023 15:45

What day did it kick in?

IAmBreathingIn · 11/01/2023 15:50

@BellyDancer124 My first pen has just been delivered, so I shall be joining you as a new starter tomorrow!

To everyone else, your posts are very, very encouraging - thanks again. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping to have minimal side effects.

Has anyone had any problems eating spicy food? Am I better sticking to bland meals?

No nausea or digestive issues (apart from constipation!!) here and I haven't changed what I eat (which is spicy af) in that respect

IAmBreathingIn · 11/01/2023 16:34

Thanks @MaireadMcSweeney that's encouraging! Although so many reports of constipation is a bit of a worry.

TeeBee · 11/01/2023 16:50

I lost next to nothing for the first two weeks...which is usual for me on any diet. I'm now up to the 0.5mg dose and have lost 7lbs so far. Nice steady loss. My friends keep wondering why I'm full so quickly when we go out for dinner. Only have appetite for two meals a day (at a push) but I am getting a lot of sweet cravings. I make dinner and by the time I've finished cooking it, I can barely face eating it.
Losing just 7lbs has really kickstarted my exercise though, so hoping that will have a beneficial effect too.

TeeBee · 11/01/2023 16:53

Oh, but the only thing I can reliably eat without feeling nauseous is salad...so a winner!

Katrinawaves · 11/01/2023 17:03

I’ve lost 12lbs so far and am on week 7. I dropped back down to 0.25mg this week as I was struggling with vomiting on a couple of days each week. Unfortunately that didn’t help this week as I was still sick at lunchtime on Sunday. I’m sure part of my weight loss is that I have about 2 days every week where I can’t keep any food down!

I’m debating whether I should try again at 0.25 this week or admit defeat. I have another 13lbs to lose to drop down into normal BMI so ideally I would continue until then but my regular vomiting is freaking my family out!

Oigetoffmylawn · 11/01/2023 17:20

OzzyOzworn · 11/01/2023 15:45

What day did it kick in?

So I took my first dose at 10am Monday and it kicked in Monday evening a bit and was properly noticing it Tuesday morning. It's been more intense/ noticeable today though. No appetite at all. No negative side effects either.

OzzyOzworn · 11/01/2023 17:27

That’s so great!!! So hopefully mine will kick in Tomo coz I’m blinking starving ha but I’m keeping it light couple of ryvita ham and tomatoes for dinner trying to stick to a max of 1000 cals a day cos WFH FT so completely sedentary apart from power walking an hr with the dogs about 5 times a week I don’t move much. Kids old enough to walk home from school etc now….. so hoping this Ozempic will help me stick to this. My cals before ranged1300-1800 so was never awful but still a big difference I guess plus PCOS so blood sugars rubbish. Hoping this helps. This thread is a great source of support

Oigetoffmylawn · 11/01/2023 19:15

Yeah ozempic has made a huge difference to me, it's like I know I'm hungry but I don't care. Food is no longer all I can think about.

could you halve that dose? sounds like you are really susceptible to the drug's effect?

Aw fab! It's good to have someone at the same stage. Hopefully we can check in and support eachother! Smile

Yes I might try that this week and see if it solves the issue.

Twwodoorsaway · 11/01/2023 21:16

So I’ve had my first injection tonight. I’ve been away for a couple of days so didn’t want to start till after I came back in case of nausea. I’m very encouraged by the positive stories, I’ve been struggling with my weight since my teens, and lost the same 3 to 4 stone lots of times. But I’m at my heaviest ever so have a lot to lose. And a wedding to attend in the summer too. So I’d like to be able to wear a dress and not feel like an elephant. My DS (adult) has been prescribed this (not in uk) as he sadly has my metabolism too. So far he has lost 7kg and just gone up to the second 0.5mg dose. So I’m hoping I can match him. Good luck to my fellow new starters.

Happierwithouthim · 12/01/2023 08:46

welcome twwodoorsaway it's nice that you and your ds are on the journey together. I'd love if my sister would come on board with it, she's much heavier than I am and is the same height, maybe when she sees my success she might change her mind. I was also not keen on losing weight through drugs but after 9 years of trying everything else I was ready to put that to one side.

Happierwithouthim · 12/01/2023 08:48

at least once a week I've an emergency trip to the loo, seems to fluctuate between constipation and diarrhoea.
