I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

Thanks @Happierwithouthim and @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun At least I know I won't embarrass myself by being a lightweight. 😁 I am excited but need to keep telling myself that it's not a miracle cure and will take time, as well as me having to learn better habits for the future.

I'm glad someone asked that.
I'm not a drinker really these days but I'm going away next weekend and like a good drink in some lovely pubs. I drink pints, so we're talking four or five pints of real ale, not a couple of glasses of wine.
At the minute I'm thinking that I won't inject again tomorrow as planned (second dose of 0.25) but skip it and inject on the Monday when I come home. But if do inject tomorrow it might have worn off by next weekend and I could do my third injection a couple of days late.
Still mulling it over ...

The pens from Juniper - do they literally just have 4 X 0.25 doses or is there any extra?
0.25mg is literally not touching me. I think because I've been on Victoza alot, I'm used to it already.

I felt like that after the miraculous effect of week one - the juniper pharmacist said that really you'd need to wait until week eight to see any effects.
i did feel full the first week to 10 days but subsequently i have kept a grip through will power and a dread that i'm spending so much money ( secretly) .
Anything i list was in the first two weeks .
in my mind i have made a commitment to 1k in cash and hope that there will be some results.
am not snacking or eating chocolate/ crisps etc but i'd still like to

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 06/01/2023 06:31

I'm on week 3 now (day 3 after injection) and feel like the effects are wearing off slightly.
However I have lost a huge amount (9lb)
I'm hoping I can maintain the weight loss up until my 0.5 injection.
Has anyone increased to 0.5 using X2 of their 0.25 injection on the 4th week?

@Katrinawaves I used Numan last week, very simple was approved a few hours later and have booked a consultation in for next week.

It is lovely to hear everybody doing so well. I am on day 5 today and definitely have noticed the loss of cravings, feeling full most of the time, even bloated and no terrible side effects either. As others have said it is very strange not to be thinking about food alllll the time and I am making much much better choices. Will weigh in Friday and even if I have only lost a pound it will be the easiest pound I ever lost.

@Fedupofdiets did you have to do the consultation before they'd post out the pen?

Katrinawaves · 06/01/2023 12:35

I’ve taken my next dose at 0.25 instead of 0.5. Keep your fingers crossed for me that this solves my vomiting issues for the week!

Goawayangryman · 06/01/2023 12:52

Pen arriving today. Feeling a bit apprehensive but also fat, so...last supper tonight and then hopefully months of fruit and veg and less cheese

Fingers crossed, I don't feel ready to go up to 0.75mg in next few weeks either, I'll see how next week goes.

Hi everyone, I started Ozempic yesterday lunchtime and so far haven't felt anything at all. I woke up ready for breakfast and have just felt my usual hunger levels all day really. Can it take a couple of days to start having a noticeable effect? I'm pretty disappointed so far!

I found the effects built up over the course of a few weeks. For me at least I think I needed to build up a level of drug in my system to get the full effect. I did though definitely have some appetite suppression even in week 1 but it was more that I needed less food to be satisfied rather than not being hungry for food at mealtimes.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 06/01/2023 18:07

0.25 mg is very little and the drug builds up in the system over the weeks so having no side effects or appetite reduction after the first dose is not that unusual. We are all different and some people react very siginifcantly to the lower dose. I lost quite a lot of weight my first week on 0.25 but it may have just been a change in diet I guess because then I plateaued all the way up to 0.5mg. I gained a bit as I dropped the dose back to 0.25 and lost a bit when I went back to 0.5 and I have now started losing more now I am up to 1 mg.

BryonyG · 06/01/2023 18:26

Thank you Katrina and Serenade, that's good to know. I was expecting to lose my appetite straight away! Luckily so far I've not had any nasty side effects either. I've definitely changed my eating habits as well this week so hopefully that will kick start the weight loss in the meantime.

Cappuccinopup · 06/01/2023 18:51

Happierwithouthim · 05/01/2023 09:47

Cappucinopup you put it so well, our bodies working the way they're supposed to!

The more the merrier here

It’s brilliant, I can completely understand how people keep slimmer without any fuss or bother if they feel this way all the time! Having the headspace from thinking about food and having a bigger appetite makes it so much easier to make healthy choices too 😁

From what I have read, 0.25 is just the dose to get your body used to the drug and minimise side effects. The actual dosage for weight loss is 1mg or more - the same drug branded solely for weight loss for obese people rather than for diabetics like ozempic, Wegovy, has a dose of 2.4mg.

RumNotRun · 06/01/2023 19:57

@Badnewsoracle I received my Ozempic today from Numan and have only just booked my phone consultation for 25th Jan.

In case you haven't done the application yet, I filled out the form late at night on 3rd, had a follow up question from them on 4th which I replied to straight away, then on 5th they authorised my order, and as I said, received it today.

I don't have a referral code but Numan are £156/month. Not sure how much others are.

Oigetoffmylawn · 06/01/2023 20:08

I've just ordered today from numan. Did my questionnaire at 2pm, they responded asking a follow up question at 2.40 and confirmed I was eligible at 3.30! Hopefully I'll receive it Monday.

I had been an 'ideal' BMI all my life until around 10 years ago when I developed an insatiable appetite and an underactive thyroid. The thyroid is stable on meds but my weight has ballooned and I just cannot lose it. Except when pregnant when it drops off me (I ended both pregnancies less than 10lbs heavier than pre pregnancy) which suggests there's a significant hormonal element as I didn't get much morning sickness or change my diet.

Really hoping this works for me.

Numan are £195 per month stop misleading people. It's only £155 with the first month's discount.

Thank you @RumNotRun

I’m just adding in here, as my first injections will arrive tomorrow. I’m quite excited, my adult son has been prescribed this (not in uk) and has lost 7kg in a couple of months (he’s tall so this isn’t a huge percentage). I’m hoping it will be effective after a lifetime of dieting. I’m away for a couple of days start of the week so I think I’ll start Wednesday when I’m home. It’s good to see the experience of other people.

Kassandra0507 · 07/01/2023 01:05

I'm so happy I've found this thread to read about everyone's experience.
I'm having serious mum guilt considering weaning my 6 month old off and starting these injection. I was hoping to breast feed for 1 year after I only managed to breastfeed my DD for 8 months I was adamant I would try my hardest to reach a year with my DS.
But my weight gain has been so difficult for me to manage and the constant food cravings are just non-stop. Again it's comforting to read im not battling these ravenous cravings alone!

He's only really breastfeeding at night if he wakes up for comfort and then sometimes before his naps. But I've read I can not start Ozempic whilst breastfeeding so am I right in assuming that even though
Im hardly breastfeeding, I would have to wait until he's completely stopped breastfeeding before starting my injections?
