Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

I've been accepted so should get my injections soon. One of my major aims from this, apart from getting my BMI under 30, is to re-educate myself on eating for health. My diet is totally appalling.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/12/2022 18:05

That’s a good idea but plan your re-education now before the side effects kick in. I find myself too tired and not hungry enough to think up healthy meals sometimes and so I end up eating less but not healthily. I am intending to go back to my ‘Why we eat (too much)’ plan in January but I need to be motivated and get meal planning and batch cooking.

ganggangrosey · 29/12/2022 20:19

I took this for about 4 months and was on 1mg. I had no side effects apart from heartburn.

I lost a bit of weight but it stalled. But I was still hungry on it.

I am always having these emergency hunger attacks not sure what the hell they are but they interfere with my weight loss.

That's a really good idea. I've actually got that book and I've also just ordered 'the 4 pillars of health' book too

snap!! what is the reason?

MerryShitemas · 29/12/2022 21:02

I'm not sure I can carry on. Five weeks in and no weight loss but constant nausea and feeling under the weather. 4x 0.25 doses and my first 0.50 dose this week on Tuesday :(

Kitsmummy · 29/12/2022 21:11

Hi would someone mind sending me a juniper code please? I'm going to give it a go. Thank you!

ganggangrosey · 29/12/2022 21:12

@orangelotus I have no idea what the emergency hunger attacks are but I know only carbs satisfy them!

So frustrating, as I eat natural food and love it but then the attacks come along.

If those were solved weight loss would be easy!

sherlockdinner · 29/12/2022 21:32

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I managed to get an appt to see my GP today and she was supportive. Happy to refer me to weight management but she has to check if I would be eligible for ozempic/Wegovy. I’ve managed to find criteria for my health board for saxenda for weight loss (there’s none for Wegovy yet) and although I have a high bmi, I would need to be prediabetic to be considered for it and I’m not…yet 😩I’m presuming it’ll be the same for Wegovy. I’m not going to rush into this. I’ve ordered “why we eat (too much)” and will wait until GP gets back to me. I may be back. Thanks again.

HermioneWeasley · 29/12/2022 21:32

@MerryShitemas I’m sorry to hear that. Have you asked about increasing the dose since you’re having strong side effects?

Increasing? That's interesting. Do you get fewer side effects? I haven't asked anything or really engaged with Juniper at all. I'm wondering if I'll feel better once the festive period is over and I'm more 'on it' with the healthy eating in January.

MerryShitemas · 29/12/2022 21:58

Thank you for responding x

orangelotus · 29/12/2022 22:02

i have contacted juniper a couple of times and they have been very responsive. Don't give up you must have been desperate ( like me) to start this . also it has been the worst time of year to be dieting.

HermioneWeasley · 29/12/2022 22:29

Sorry @MerryShitemas , I meant delaying the increase

OP posts:
HermioneWeasley · 29/12/2022 22:30

@MerryShitemas i find regular small eating helps with the nausea. If you let yourself get too hungry then I find I eat to much and end up feeling sick.

Thank you both. I had weight loss surgery several years ago and have put on a stone and a bit over the last year. Normal I think to go up a bit from your lowest point, and after two rounds of (unsuccessful) IVF and a tough year to be expected maybe. Just really want to get on top of it before it escalates and before I try more IVF. It might not be for me, but worth a try for a few months I thought. Will see how it goes. Thanks again

Have you tried lean protein instead? Chicken breast, fish, boiled eggs, even pork fillet. Filling up on those stops any hunger or cravings for me. But a large portion, not one egg or a small tin of tuna.

I agree with this.
Protein is also really important so you lose fat not muscle. I now eat my meals in an order to make sure I'm getting all of my nutritional needs and that I feel satisfied; protein and veg first and then carbs.

BalloonArch · 30/12/2022 08:33

I've just had my first dose.
I've had the pen for a couple of weeks but wanted to get Christmas out of the way.
Didn't feel a thing when I injected - so painless I had to check I'd done it right!

Hoping for very few side effects, I know I'll not be remotely willing to ride them out so I'd just give up with it.

I'm menopausal and have been slowly putting weight on. Every time I try to lose weight I have a couple of hormonal ravenous days and undo all my good work, so I'm hoping that this settles my hunger down a bit.

I've no idea what I weigh. At 5'7" and a size 18 I suspect I'm not far off 16 stone. I'd love to lose around 3 stone and be around a size 14 so I can fit into lots of my clothes again!

HermioneWeasley · 30/12/2022 09:38

Welcome @BalloonArch . Hope this works for you

I've been helped loads by reading this thread

@BalloonArch really pleased to hear that. I started it really as a journal for me and I’m surprised how it’s taken off. So happy to hear everyone sharing their experiences is helpful

Just taken my 6th injection and my weigh in shows I have lost 7lbs since I started. I’m not unhappy with this particularly given the time of year.

HermioneWeasley · 30/12/2022 12:27

Well done @Katrinawaves

That's great when I was hefting my 14lb turkey around last week I was thinking I'm carrying the equivalent of 3 1/2 of these around all the time no wonder I feel so exhausted!,
I haven't told a soul I'm doing this - but now I'm worrying about how I'll keep it secret from my husband and friends I'm travelling with in a few weeks?
I really just want to keep it to myself ( and all of you!,)
