I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

I'm planning on starting ozempic soon, looking online and on this thread it seems like Juniper is a good place to get it from? Would people recommend them? Feeling slightly nervous!

5280mum · 28/12/2022 12:10

Please can someone dm me a discount code for juniper? Can you do it directly through the site or do I need to put my email in a message? Thanks! Xx

Happierwithouthim · 28/12/2022 12:34

Cosytoes I seem to lose it in the beginning of the week too

HermioneWeasley · 28/12/2022 14:18

Hi @teaandcake13 I’ve only used My Juniper and they’ve been good - new pens dispatched in good time and very responsive to queries. Don’t order from them without the £50 off your first order code though! A few of us have refer a friend codes and can DM it to you

nellyelloe · 28/12/2022 21:16

Hi all,
I'm so tempted! Is this better/different to Victoza?

Thanks

nellyelloe · 28/12/2022 21:20

Also, if it's different to Victoza (which I've tried), I'd be so grateful for a discount code

orangelotus · 28/12/2022 21:27

just had a quick look. It looks a similar type of drug. When did you take it? Sounds like it wasn't too successful? if you don't mind saying ?
there's lots of people on here who can give a code fir £50 off for the first month only.
I'm happy to give the code if you contact me especially as i would also get £50 but there are others who can supply as well.

nellyelloe · 28/12/2022 21:39

Great thanks! Yes I was in Victoza but it just didn't seem to touch me after a few weeks and my appetite came back!

My BMI is 32. I'm desperate to get my weight lower for my health more than anything.

I'm going to PM you for the code please SmileI can't seem to see how I PM you from the app though lol

nellyelloe · 28/12/2022 21:43

I've worked it out - PM sent

i took some tablets called reductil from the go about 10 years ago but they made me shake uncontrollably so i know what you mean.
people have documented in this thread how it has made them feel and some side effects do sound awful.
I can only speak fir myself and i have only had three of the titration doses so very early days here. hopefully someone who has been on it longer will come along.
i suppose the problem is it's a big financial commitment and as it's an injection if you do have side effects you just have to ride them out. Sorry if that's no help at all

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 28/12/2022 22:30

it is a big spend,i have money saved up that is from my birthday bought some new clothes i needed but sent them back so now with the refund i want to kickstart my weightloss.I need to lose about two stones but even one will make a difference.

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 28/12/2022 22:32

are you quite young?
maybe book an appointment with your GP and have a chat with them about it? No need to rush into anything xxx

Ozempic is not something you can/should do as a one off or dip in and out of. It is not a “kickstart”. It is a medium term medication that is expensive privately and only provided for weight loss on the NHS under very limited circumstances. It also has side effects and risks - that’s one thing when seriously overweight but I would consider very carefully to lose a stone or so, if you can even get it prescribed.

If you look into dosage you’ll see it is only in the third month that you get up to the therapeutic dosage and plenty of people don’t lose weight until then. I wouldn’t recommend starting privately unless you believe you can fund at least six months worth.

sherlockdinner · 29/12/2022 01:16

I’m keen to try this too. My weight yo-yos and is now just over 40 bmi. I’ve just started weight training but I’m always snacking and when I cut down I’m ravenous. I’ve lost 2 stone twice in 3 years but I’m right back where I started again.
Can a GP prescribe this (Scotland) or would I need to be referred to a consultant? I could just about afford it but would prefer to try GP first.
What happens in 12 months time when you lose the weight? Do you have to take it forever or is your body reset in some way? Thanks.

HermioneWeasley · 29/12/2022 09:02

@sherlockdinner i think NICE has approved it as a weight loss treatment for very high BMI so it might be worth discussing with your GP. Unfortunately I think the year is to allow you to get into new habits. I am worried about maintaining weight loss if I go back to being ravenously hungry all the time

There is a recent Daily Mail article (sorry about the publication) with a bit of a misleading headline in my opinion but it does show what happens when people stop taking the drug in a graph. I think it is a long term commitment I am afraid.

Of course you will put the weight back on if you continue to eat the same way when you stop. It's not a silver bullet.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/12/2022 12:50

Yes, it’s not a surprise. We are all driven by hormones and once you stop taking the drug your hormones will be what they were before and the weight set point will follow.

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 29/12/2022 12:52

NICE guidelines are here www.nice.org.uk/guidance/gid-ta10765/documents/final-appraisal-determination-document

from the recommendations:

Semaglutide is recommended as an option for weight management, including weight loss and weight maintenance, alongside a reduced- calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults, only if:
• it is used for a maximum of 2 years, and within a specialist weight management service providing multidisciplinary management of overweight or obesity (including but not limited to tiers 3 and 4), and
• they have at least 1 weight-related comorbidity and:
− a body mass index (BMI) of at least 35.0 kg/m2, or
− a BMI of 30.0 kg/m2 to 34.9 kg/m2 and meet the criteria for referral to
specialist weight management services in NICE’s clinical guideline on obesity: identification, assessment and management.
Use lower BMI thresholds (usually reduced by 2.5 kg/m2) for people from south Asian, Chinese, and Black African or Caribbean family backgrounds.
1.2 Consider stopping semaglutide if less than 5% of the initial weight has been lost after 6 months of the maintenance dose.
