I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

@orangelotus my wife knows I’m doing it but nobody else. That’s why this thread is so great!

Do you need to tell your husband and friends just because you are going away for a few nights? I’d just pop the ozempic in my soap bag and inject in the bathroom after a shower and no one would be any the wiser.

orangelotus · 30/12/2022 17:23

we are going to south africa for two weeks. So i have a letter which i somehow need to print out and then would need to keep the "gear" in a fridge. Now i'm hiding it behind all the jars of stuff that i should throw away!!
getting it through security.
I think i might have to tell my husband but he will definitely not approve

Katrinawaves · 30/12/2022 17:28

I think you only need to keep it in fridge before you take the first dose from the pen. I don’t keep mine refrigerated after that. Could you put it in your hold baggage rather than hand luggage?

orangelotus · 30/12/2022 17:30

Ha!!! i shouldn't be burdening you with my attempts at deceit!!
I am confused about the fridge advice i'll need to look closely at the manufacturer s info. But that would make it easier!!

HermioneWeasley · 30/12/2022 19:54

After the pen has been used once it doesn’t need to be refrigerated any more, but does need to be kept below 25C

if you want to take it in hand luggage, My Juniper provide a doctor’s letter and I’m sure other providers will too.

Well I took my first dose this morning. I feel fine.
I've been a bit burpy, but honestly think that if I wasn't so hyper aware of the side effects I'd not have even noticed that on any other day.
I didn't clear my plate this evening either, but again, I suspect that that's just me being cautious.

Anyway, all good. Fingers crossed for the rest of the week.
And I put new batteries in my scales Sad

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 31/12/2022 06:43

Well done for starting BalloonArch - hope it works well for you.

I have been sick again this morning. Really hoping this will pass as I do seem to be consistently losing a bit of weight now when I look at my daily weigh in app which shows a moving average.

Oh no, I hope you're feeling better now. Once you're sick does the nausea stop?

Like others I've not told anyone - I'd try and pass anything like that off as a stomach bug but then I don't know if I'd be prepared to carry on injecting, so I'm really hoping that I'm one of those people who get minimal side effects.

I've woken up burpy and very thirsty, but luckily no nausea.
A glass of Movicol ( just in case) and a coffee for breakfast. But I don't eat first thing anyway so no change there really.

keeponandonandon · 31/12/2022 10:14

I started it this morning, feel overly cautious/anxious about side effects and am convinced I'm going to die in my sleep! (Slightly dramatic) I just need to get through the next few days then I think I will feel less worried.

Anxiousmum · 31/12/2022 10:22

Hello everyone, your experiences are so inspiring! Would anyone be happy to share a £50 off code to order via myjuniper please? Happy New Year!

orangelotus · 31/12/2022 10:41

I think the thing to bear in mind is that this is a widely used drug in diabetics and is really very safe. I think that if we are all starting this with a BMI over 30 the health risks associated with that outweigh the risks from the drug.
I think as other people have said that just taking the medication is not in itself a magic bullet so it would be good to get ideas of making positive changes. Further back there have been lots of helpful suggestions- May because this has been a strange time of year it's not been practical to start those changes but hopefully now January is upon us we can support each other in that?
Lots of people here will have a code for Juniper but I am happy to give mine if you DM me - full disclosure I would also get £50 if you use it .

restingwitchfaces · 31/12/2022 10:41

I'm exactly the same @keeponandonandon I did my first last night and now I'm hyper-aware of every twinge, burp, and pain. ridiculous really. I also didn't even feel the needle so I'm also convinced it didn't work!

Exactly the same here!! In reality, I'm absolutely fine and I saw the counter on the pen return to zero so assume it did work!

HermioneWeasley · 31/12/2022 12:23

I wasn’t sure my first dose had worked either because I barely felt it - I think it’s very common.

Essentially the nausea goes away once I have my morning tea. I have only actually been sick four times in total now since August. Once for 0.25 and 0.5 mg and twice in a week for 1 mg. Always a good week or two into the new dose. I think it builds up in the system over the weeks.

NameChange2023 · 31/12/2022 18:32

When's the best time to take it do you think? I've been taking the 0.25mg at all times of day or night, but just started the 0.5mg and am taking my second dose of that this weekend, so if there's a particular time when it's more effective/gives less side effects then I'll do that.

keeponandonandon · 31/12/2022 21:22

I had to check that it had gone in as I didn't feel a thing! But I am still alive and have not had any noticeable side effects.

keeponandonandon · 31/12/2022 21:30

I forgot to mention I signed up to Manual - has anyone else used them? I didn't realise they seem to primarily support men. However, they have been great so far, I've got a check in call booked, the sent me so much info and were pretty diligent in ensuring I met the 'fat enough' criteria! They also offer 50% off for refer a friend but are slightly more expensive at 199 a month.

Nanamuffin · 31/12/2022 22:18

Hi all
I’d like to join. I’ve read most of the thread and it’s been an interesting read.
I have done two 0.25 injections and have had nausea and headaches. I definitely need to drink more water!
I have realised if I overeat or eat really sugary food I’m sick - just been sick after eating 3 large cookies. :(
I think I have lost some weight but will do a weigh tomorrow.

HermioneWeasley · 31/12/2022 22:48

Welcome @Nanamuffin and thanks for sharing your experiences so far.

it’s greasy or rich food for me that I can only have in moderation- I managed to scarf half a bag of jelly tots today so no issues with sugar.

happy new year to everyone!!
very exciting to think there could be less of us i next year!!!

S0upertrooper · 01/01/2023 02:56

@orangelotus I took my pen abroad, popped it in the liquids bag in hand luggage but put the needles in the hold. It's not recommended to put the pen in the hold in case it freezes.

Security are used to seeing these pens for diabetic use, so I had no issues on 6 different flights recently. I also didn't refrigerate it after I'd started using it.

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 01/01/2023 08:13
