🍁LOSE IT! October 2022🍁12 WEEK COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS 🎄

Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! September Thread here’s October’s Thread.

Dare I say it’s officially the 12 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a complete body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right into October! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Morning all! I had a pretty decent weekend, went swimming with the baby - definitely planning to keep it up and go in the evenings if DH isn't working late.

I feel a little lighter (probably making things up in my head lol) but very minimal difference in the scales

ImALittlePea · 10/10/2022 09:02

Morning! Well it seems I was too swift in saying the bug hadn't been passed on - went on a walk with a friend last night and suddenly felt very ill. Rushed home to be sick, and was up all night with it 🤢 poor DH has had to take the day off work as I'm in bed with awful stomach cramps. So as far as food goes today - god knows?! What's good to eat with a buggy tummy?

TheRealHousewife · 10/10/2022 09:39

Good Morning @TheLastStark Swimming is a great aerobic exercise and bonus points for introducing your baby to the water 👍👏

So sorry to read your update @ImALittlePea. Wishing you a swift recovery! 💐

Sorry to hear you've gone down with the lurgy, LittlePea. Toast is the go-to in this house when people are feeling hideous - fairly plain, stodgy and everyone always fancies a slice of toast. Hope you bounce back quickly.

And same, healing thoughts to you about your back, RealHousewife - chronic pain is just the worse and I admire you greatly for always cracking onwards, being positive and propping us all up! Thank you...

Aiming for lower calories today but will see as feeling motivated right now but I made a pork cassoulet last night which didn't fill me up as hoped so woke quite hungry! Not the best start! Hope everyone else has a good Monday..

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 10/10/2022 11:37

I've been on another thready (F*ck me I'm so Lardy) so have neglected this one, sorry!

Have been completely off wagon, sausage in batter and chips for dinner last Friday, found raspberry cheesecake slices in Tesco next to chippy...

Managed to eat:

various other rubbish.

Need to get back on track.

I swear the cold weather either makes me want more or more carb/starch laden food. How to wean off it?

TheRealHousewife · 10/10/2022 13:50

Hi Everyone

Its World Mental Health Day today and in support I’m sharing the following link:-

10 Days of Happiness

Its a free course 👍

As we are all aware, mental health, well being and weight loss/gain are intrinsically linked. It’s good to practice healthy self care that enhances those aspects. ❤️

Hey @fallfallfall it's a marathon not a sprint and it will go away. I wonder of you had something particularly carby? That makes the scales shoot up for me and then the next day or two it's gone.
Day 21
SW:143.2
CW:137.6
GW:126
5.6lbs in 3 weeks.
This I will take as it is unusual for me to be down on a Monday but DH and I have a few projects on now we are empty nesters so there is less sitting around and more running around.
Onwards and inwards

CrimsonAlligator · 10/10/2022 16:35

Weightloss is so unpredictable @fallfallfall . I lost a kg overnight...of course that’s not a real loss, in the same way your gain won’t be a real gain. It will be gone tomorrow, or the day after!

Sorry to hear you caught that bug @ImALittlePea . I tend not to eat anything when I have that kind of stomach bug, but once I start feeling a bit better rice and applesauce is my choice for a recovery meal.

@GonnaGetGoingReturns no real advice from me, I’m afraid, but I’d say that realising that there is a pattern is the first step in breaking it. But quite how you do that, I don’t know either 😬

Thanks for sharing that link @TheRealHousewife . I watched a presentation on nutrition and mental health last week. Good nutrition obviously won’t solve all mental health issues, but there’s some interesting research into how certain vitamins and minerals play a role in helping to keep our brains healthy. Vitamin D, B, iron, zinc, magnesium and omega 3 all appear to be very important in that respect. As a lot of people in the UK are deficient in vitamin D, I can’t help but wonder what role that plays in the current mental health crisis 🤔

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 10/10/2022 16:51

@CrimsonAlligator - agreed - it's about realising and breaking those patterns! I know exactly why I buy stuff and then eat it. I mean I don't punish myself or anything or make myself sick afterwards and it's not even bingeing.

@TheRealHousewife - just signed up for that link.

fallfallfall · 10/10/2022 18:03

@TheRealHousewife great link! i'll look that over for sure
@CrimsonAlligator i believe that genetically people in the UK have lower serotonin levels than most other countries and low serotonin levels are linked to depression. not finding any recent research on that so may have been debunked. last time i found and read it was 8 years ago when my dd met her partner who is from the uk (mother hen highlighting potential red flags ;) )
and indeed the weight is back down; potentially up yesterday due to the increased cardio exercises i did on friday and saturday although it was not that intense not enough that i expected it.
6 days till i start flying east. lots of loose ends to deal with. i will be hard to stay focused. add in the fact i don't want to grocery shop for too much fresh stuff.
i plan on doing the monday higher burn (30 minutes) plus the two dog walks and maybe a bit more.
meals: boiled egg, a small cheese biscuit and baked beans (322 calories)
lunch🍅soup
supper green salad with sausage
i'll need to add in some fruit

Cloudberries123 · 10/10/2022 20:58

Absolutely knackered from a couple of unsettled nights with the baby and have worked my way through a packet of Hobnobs with cups of tea over the past two days. Just to get a bit more energy. But predictably I didn't actually feel better for it, bar the momentary pleasure of eating them. Hope it hasn't buggered my loss from last week.

Wishing you well @TheRealHousewife and @ImALittlePea

fallfallfall · 10/10/2022 22:30

on track for the day; soup all of 73 calories and my first liter of water is down the hatch.
higher burn video completed: a solid 15 minutes of cardio which had me stop after the 15 for a rest, the other 15 minutes was 10 of upper arm shoulder work then the last 5 was squats.
salad harvested from the garden because the stuff in the fridge is NOT looking great...

dressing will be lemon juice, white balsamic vinegar, and a touch of olive oil.
some premixed seasoning salt.
hopefully no one else is too too challenged today but if you are you can do this!
@TheRealHousewife and @ImALittlePea positive thoughts you feel better soon.

TheRealHousewife · 11/10/2022 09:15

Good Morning All

Thank you for @fallfallfall @Cloudberries123 @GonnaGetGoingReturns . You’re welcome in regards to the link.

Where is everyone? It’s gone really quiet. @HouseofHolbein @Allthegoodnamestakken @CamoTeaLaLa @Bobbinsbop @BadlydoneHelen @MirandaWest @Slightlystressedwife @milkfromthesleepycow @Gertrude86 @CassandraBarrett @JacquelineCarlyle @Jammymare @CamoTeaLaLa @Careylisa @RadFad How are you all doing? 😬. 11 weeks to go …

@fallfallfall sounds like you had a great day and got some firm exercise in! 👍

@Cloudberries123 Sleep deprivation is so tough in so many ways. It also actually makes you more hungry as your leptin and ghrelin hormones get out of sync. Hope you get some quality 💤 soon!

@Was126orbustandmaybebust I know you are used to losing any gain quickly but I think 5lbs + in 3 weeks is solid progress 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy homemade veg soup.
Meal 2 - Chicken gougons with cauli rice.
Tea, black coffee and water. Brazil nuts. Pear.

Exercise - None other than gentle stretches due to back pain.

Morning! I've been busy at work as usual🤦‍♀️ weight is a bit up and down and exercise is intermittent as I have an ouchy foot. Waiting on a doctors appointment but have a nasty feeling it's arthritis in my big toe joint.

Sorry I'm a bit crap at the moment but thank you for thinking of me @TheRealHousewife 💕

RadFad · 11/10/2022 09:28

I'm here trying to claw back an indulgent weekend. Went to the coast over the weekend to scatter my sisters ashes and didn't make the best choices food wise.
Hoping for a maintain this week.

Oh no! That's what I have in my big toe. Makes exercise really painful but physio have given me some exercises to try and improve it.

MirandaWest · 11/10/2022 09:48

@TheRealHousewife I am here although was away at the weekend and now DH has gone off on a work trip to Romania so I have to do the cooking!

Went on a hike up a mountain with some work colleagues on Sunday which was good fun (even the near vertical parts).

Have been investigating my more wintry clothes and glad they fit (can't quite remember when the weight started going on over the past year).

Is my 10 mile race this coming Sunday - feel positive about it although as I did it last year as well I need to try not to compare my time. I feel better prepared but will have to see how it goes.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/10/2022 09:52

I did my first day of 10 days of happiness course.

Binged on 2 more mini Kinder chocolate bars and some Thai sweet chilli rice cakes. Today I am going to do green tea/water with orange squash or fruit to snack on.

Had blueberries and oatsosimple for breakfast.

CrimsonAlligator · 11/10/2022 10:08

It is indeed a bit quiet here @TheRealHousewife , although it’s nice to be able to keep up with the posts for once 😆I hope everyone is doing ok.

Hugs to you @RadFad Less than optimal food choices are totally understandable, given the circumstances.

Good luck with your race @MirandaWest . Finishing 10k is a massive achievement, regardless of time...or at least that’s what I keep telling myself when I crawl to the end of a 10k row.

I had a bit of a NSV yesterday when I found my exact measurements from a few years ago (I used to sew my own clothes, so that’s why I have a full set of measurements). My waist is an inch smaller now, but my hip measurements are a whopping 4-6 inches smaller. All I can conclude from that is that all this rowing I’ve been doing is changing my body shape. I’m still a pear, but one that’s a bit more in proportion 🤔

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/10/2022 10:35

Still here @TheRealHousewife , just having a really busy time at work which is taking its toll. Been grabbing far too many quick carbs just to keep on going. Expecting a gain this week but hoping it'll get my head back in the game!

Fantastic NSV @CrimsonAlligator
Good luck with race @MirandaWest

TheRealHousewife · 11/10/2022 10:35

Pleased you’re all still breathing😬

@HouseofHolbein @RadFad sorry to hear about your sore toes! Very uncomfortable and painful 😣

Excellent NSV @CrimsonAlligator 👍 Having an healthy waist/height ratio is the new BMI 😬

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Well done on investing on your mh! The good thing about mini kinder bars is that they are mini. Don’t fret and just carry on (healthy eating that is and not woofing kinder bars down😬)

@MirandaWest I feel sick and trembly thinking about the vertical drops on high mountains … well done. They do say do something every day that scares you 👍

Thanks @TheRealHousewife . I've already trained myself to walk past and not take the Tony's Chocolonely big wafer (?) bar which was much nicer than the mini Kinder Buenos.

Well done @CrimsonAlligator !

Making nice butternut squash soup today.

JacquelineCarlyle · 11/10/2022 12:02

Thanks for the check in @TheRealHousewife - been a crap week for me and dreading tomorrow's weigh in. We were broken into and had our cars stolen, so been comfort eating all week. I know I shouldn't as it's bad enough they've taken the cars, to then allow them to sabotage my weight loss, but I've felt so shit and weepy, that stodgy food (& wine!) has made me feel better!

Will WOW as usual, but dreading that!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 11/10/2022 13:50

@JacquelineCarlyle so sorry to hear that! It sounds like you've had an awful week, don't be hard on yourself. Any hope of the cars being recovered? my brothers car was stolen a couple of years ago and found a week later so he got it back after the police had checked it out.

I seem to be completely stuck on 68.5kgs not gaining but not loosing either and its really frustrating. Clearly need to have another look at my diet.
