Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! September Thread here’s October’s Thread.

Dare I say it’s officially the 12 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a complete body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right into October! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Well done @ImALittlePea @SanFranBear and @fallfallfall !

Not a good day here. I had a conversation with my manager about his complete lack of management and the stress that creates. All done over email of course, because he doesn’t have time for an actual phone call...I’d laugh if it wasn’t such a joke! Anyway, he’s now pencilled in three (!) meetings for next week. Can’t wait... 😒 In the meantime, a chocolate bar somehow disappeared down my face. I hate stress eating, but it’s hard to stop sometimes.

@SanFranBear I’m in week 9 of my 16 week rowing programme, so it’s still another 7 weeks until I get to test myself. I’m currently at the phase where it feels like I’m not making much progress at all, but the same thing happened when I trained for a 2k, when all of a sudden my strength seemed to improve massively. I’m hoping for the same thing this time. I’d love to finish under 50 minutes, which would be a challenge for me, but not impossible as long as I eat well & get enough sleep.

fallfallfall · 14/10/2022 18:48

@Cloudberries123 i agree about the psychological stuff and trying to unpick it.
i spent a good portion of the night trying to understand why i think or find making healthy choices when away from my own kitchen difficult? especially since none of the food offered is unhealthy food.
@TheRealHousewife i love family history/genealogy and sociology super interesting and believe we all have interesting stories to share.
i've been having difficulty with snacking lately between 2-4pm while in the kitchen prepping. and i notice dh also struggling to fast till 0930. i firmly believe it's driven by the cooler temperatures; he's also been wanting an after supper treat which i think is due to the darker evenings.

CrimsonAlligator · 14/10/2022 18:48

I was going to say I love your fireplace @TheRealHousewife 😂 Still, a real fire is lovely!

fallfallfall · 14/10/2022 18:56

@CrimsonAlligator your fitness program sounds like a great challenge. i firmly believe my weight gain and propensity for calorie dense foods and treats stems from workplace issues. i also think shiftwork and the toll it places on the body/brain is understudied.
that being said i've now been retired 8 years and am still challenged to get into that green bmi zone.
okay off to pack and exercise and plan meals the fridge is nearly empty.
good luck everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 14/10/2022 20:17

🤣Sorry to disappoint @CrimsonAlligator although ours is very similar but I’m not brave enough to post it 😬

Good luck with the packing @fallfallfall 👍

I also thought it was yours @TheRealHousewife and thought it was lovely!

Good luck with the travel @fallfallfall

A pretty OK day of food here, with:
cheese and tomato wholemeal wrap;
tuna mayo and sweetcorn;
and supermarket pizza for dinner.

I know they're not the best, but that's the phase of life we're in at the moment - sometimes we just need something that's ready in 10 minutes. Made a fresh grated carrot salad to go with it, and also had a banana earlier.

Done eating for the night - having a grizzly baby certainly takes up time that would otherwise be for snacking and desserts!

dressforchristmas · 15/10/2022 03:08

i have been meaning to check in with this thread and read your stories!!

I have made a little start with things, before I posted I had tried a bit of intermittent fasting but found it too hard. So now I just have a bit less breakfast and lunch, and try to stay clear of biscuits etc. Instead have some fruit. My big thing is trying to stay off the soda’s. They don’t do anything so shouldn’t drink them. I also started running again!

with the above, at least scale is no longer slowly creeping up

welcome @dressforchristmas

Cloudberries123 · 15/10/2022 13:42

Welcome @dressforchristmas A loss is a loss!

Bit of an upside-down start to the weekend here. Got some solo sleep from 5-7 and then the shopping delivery arrived at 7am 😵 So I ate (consciously, not mindlessly) two éclairs with a cup of coffee and started the day. While champion DP slept in after being up with the baby.

Been fighting the munchies ever since, but had a solid lunch of sausages, leftover carrot salad and sunflower seed bread. Going to work on hydration before I start having any snacks. The éclairs were delicious and no regrets, just need to not get derailed!

Hope everyone's having a good day.

TheRealHousewife · 15/10/2022 14:45

@Cloudberries123 @CrimsonAlligator Just for you ... our fireplace earlier this year along with a sharing platter 🔥

@TheRealHousewife that looks warm and inviting.

SanFranBear · 15/10/2022 15:34

Oooh, RealHousewife - that looks just lovely... and your fireplace does too 😉 I have always wanted a real fire as there's something in the crackling and smoke which can't be replicated. Right now though, I'd just like a new home - it seems to be proving almost impossible to move and I'm getting really discouraged and stressed. It'll work out but hating it!

Sooo in an attempt to feel free and untethered, I got up early and went out into the Forest for a proper hike. It was absolutely bloody glorious and has helped me immeasurably! Ready to tackle what ever gets thrown at me next (for now, at least!) Had a lovely hot shower, a large lunch which involved dark, raspberry chocolate afterwards and now got one kitty asleep on my lap with the other, gently snoring beside me - life is pretty good really.

Having supermarket Chinese tonight (chilli beef and noodles) as DC, and I, love it and its easy and I can't be bothered but will try to rein it back in a bit from tomorrow as got lots of dull chores to be done!

And it's been aaaages but the ponies were out in force today and this gorgeous little foal (not sure whether teen horses have a specific name?) was just hanging as I crossed some heathland - lovely!

That looks stunning @SanFranBear sorry to read about your housing situation. I really hope something comes up soon!

fallfallfall · 15/10/2022 22:08

oh @SanFranBear that's a beautiful photo! thanks for sharing, your supper is what i have on reserve for tomorrow night prior to airport/flight etc. 0600 flight, 0400 check in, that means taxi at 0315...so up at 0230??

Allthegoodnamestakken · 16/10/2022 07:24

@SanFranBear sorry the house move is a headache. The photo is lovely though! Teen horses are usually called yearlings between 1-2 years old.
I actually went horse riding yesterday and I'm aching today which has foiled my plans for a run.
Still completely stagnant weight loss wise but feeling better about it since learning its normal.
Meals today are
Scrambled eggs
Homemade pizza and salad, very excited for the pizza as my sauce bubbled all of yesterday and I bought fancy buffalo mozzarella as a treat as we are having some friends over.

MirandaWest · 16/10/2022 17:18

My 10 mile race went as well as I could have hoped for - unlike last year I ran every step of the way (including up the two hills) and did it nearly 6 min faster than last time.

Now to try and keep being sensible with my food so I can keep running 😊 Have booked myself a 10k race on 20th November which should help to keep me on the straight and narrow a bit at least 😃

TheRealHousewife · 16/10/2022 19:41

Congratulations @MirandaWest thats fantastic! Well done on improving your previous best 👍🏅👏

I had a double vax of covid and flu jabs yesterday. Properly knocked me up. Not really moved from the sofa today which is very usual for me. Starting to come around now so might go and do the kitchen floor.

Sending good wishes for your trip & holiday @fallfallfall ❤️

:) thank you @TheRealHousewife , it's getting down to the crunch time. shuttle booked and checked in. pups at the kennel. currently doing my nails as upon arrival in montreal; my mom has revealed we (brother, sister in law, mom, plus dh and i ) are going out for dinner. dear brother and sister in law are foodies and very much into the restaurant scene.
oh well november will see me back to counting calories and working out with leslie.
have you downloaded the app yet?

fallfallfall · 16/10/2022 19:52

@MirandaWest :) what a lovely update, congrats on the new best time and the november target!!

TheRealHousewife · 16/10/2022 20:13

Hi @fallfallfall the Walk app / Leslie Sansone? Yes I have but not yet subscribed. I think I might though 😬. Really enjoy your break with your family. Nothing beats connecting with family around the table. We will all be here when you return 😊

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 16/10/2022 20:18

@TheRealHousewife for me the subscription has been very worthwhile, i found the cost reasonable and if you can wait last january they offered it at half price. not that it was expensive in the first place. $69 USD per year, that's about L 62 for you (half price 31).
7 day free trial, if you want to give it a good look first.

SanFranBear · 17/10/2022 06:57

Hope you got away OK, fallfall - have an absolutely wonderful holiday!

i only managed just over 3 hours sleep last night so wish me luck for today... not great with willpower when I'm this tired 😴

milkfromthesleepycow · 17/10/2022 07:26

@MirandaWest well done on the race 👏 good you've got another in the diary as well

@TheRealHousewife the double jag is killer. My covid arm ached for days I'm afraid. But given how many patients we're starting to see with flu /covid it's great your protected

Good vibes everyone, we're all going to be on it today

TheRealHousewife · 17/10/2022 08:07

Good Morning All

@fallfallfall (Not sure you’ll see this message as I think you’re travelling). I opened the app on my iPad last night to have another look and all these tabs for different work outs were available 🤷‍♀️ I think I must have subscribed. I’m going to check it out later …

@milkfromthesleepycow I don’t regret getting double jabbed but did feel rough. On reflection I think it was was a couple of things that caused this; I’d forgotten to take my hormones, felt sore from the jabs, was unable to sleep to the point I developed a migraine. This morning I’m full of beans (relatively 😬) I’d fair far worse if I contracted flu or covid.

@SanFranBear You have my sympathy re:- lack of sleep. Hope you keep on an even keel today and get some quality zzzz tonight.

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made tomato soup. 2 Brazil nuts. Apple.
Meal 2 - Chicken Buddha bowl with black beans, salsa, chopped carrot, broccoli and sweet corn.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Lesley Sansone (YouTube or app)
Session 2 - Hand Weights.

As we are half way through the month I’m reaffirming my intentions. I’m hoping the last of my gain is gone for Wednesday (1lb) and I’m working towards ending the month with a loss. I intend upping my activity as it does help.

Have a good week ladies!
