Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! September Thread here’s October’s Thread.

Dare I say it’s officially the 12 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a complete body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right into October! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Hi Everyone

Reading your update @fallfallfall you seem more settled. Here’s to a positive few days and safe trip!

Thank you @JacquelineCarlyle … and you’ve had a fabulous result this week! Well done!

@Allthegoodnamestakken when I upped my activity it did make a difference for me. Then again I’m not that active generally as I’m limited. I think I’ve been doing too much (not in anyones else’s book 😬) as my back/neuro symptoms have been much worse unfortunately so had to dial exercise back.

@Allthegoodnamestakken whenever someone mentions a weightloss plateau, I like to share this article. It shows that plateaus are actually a really good thing, even if it feels frustrating to go through one at the time.

I’ve personally found that hitting a plateau doesn’t just mean that the weight doesn’t shift, no matter how little I eat. It also means that the weight doesn’t really go up, no matter how much I eat. I’ve used that fact to my advantage, by having a bit of a break from my diet during plateaus. Weirdly that often gets the scales moving down again.

www.secondnature.io/guides/mind/motivation/weight-loss-plateaus-explained

@TheRealHousewife that’s frustrating 😬 Fingers crossed those 2 lbs will be gone soon

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 12/10/2022 17:30

@CrimsonAlligator - that's really interesting re weight loss plateaus. I thought I'd definitely have put on loads of weight with my eating habits lately... not weighed today but tried on some tighter leggings and a t shirt I've bought in past 2 weeks and though they're not fitting quite as well as they did I certainly haven't put on loads of weight so they don't fit and they didn't seem that tight either!

Had last part of root canal treatment today, ta-da - zero appetite!

For lunch had Bachelors Slim a Soup Minestrone plus 6 cheese oatcakes and 3 Quorn Picnic Eggs plus new find Muller Light Chocolate Fix with Belgian Milk Chocolate (95 calories).

Will have cheese omelette, baked beans and mashed potato

Allthegoodnamestakken · 13/10/2022 09:15

@CrimsonAlligator that is a really helpful article thankyou, makes a lot of sense for my situation as I have lost about 12% body weight before stalling. Will carry on with the healthy eating and focusing on getting fitter and stronger and see what changes over the next few weeks.
Frustrating as I was really hoping to be at target by November as its a really busy month and will probably involve way to much food so I was hoping to have a bit of a buffer. Anyway slow and steady wins the race right.

TheLastStark · 13/10/2022 10:25

Thanks for the article, very helpful!

This week has been absolutely shite in terms of eating, not sure what's going wrong. Will need to think and reassess what is making me eat badly.

Haven't weighed this week as I think it'll set me back further.

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 13/10/2022 11:15

Day 24
SW:143.2
CW:137.4
GW:126
5.8lbs in 3 weeks.
Nearly at 6lbs so will make an effort today to see if i can get there before the week-end.
I had a cold all this week and so haven't realy felt up to even a walk or a Leslie video. Feeling tired and grumpy today so will have to fight an unexpected desire to mainline white bread toast and jam!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 13/10/2022 12:21

Forgot my food for the day!
Lunch was - chickpea, halloumi and salad wrap with some fruit
Dinner- Grilled chickenbreast, salad potatoes and whatever green leaves in the fridge need eating up

ImALittlePea · 13/10/2022 13:20

Sorry I've been absent this week. Started off poorly as you know, and it just hasn't got any better for various reasons. I'm emotionally and physically exhausted, I'm just hoping we've had all of our bad luck for a while now. Food wise it's been a bit blah - barely ate Monday, and been easing the appetite back up slowly since. I'd better bloody lose when I weigh in tomorrow after everything! Given how utterly crap this week has been though, I probably won't 😏

Sorry to hear about the cars @JacquelineCarlyle what a horrible invasion.

Thoughts are with you @fallfallfall - I seem to have missed your holiday plans but I hope the news doesn't interfere with them.

How is your back today @TheRealHousewife?

Good luck on Sunday @MirandaWest!

Amazing NSV @CrimsonAlligator well done!

And many well dones to everyone who weighed yesterday, regardless of result! Sorry there are too many posts now to tag.

ImALittlePea · 13/10/2022 13:21

@Allthegoodnamestakken delicious sounding menu for today!

Cloudberries123 · 13/10/2022 13:26

Hope you perk up LittlePea and 126orbust I was absolutely done in earlier this week and my food reflected that. But amazing what a couple of nights of decent sleep can do!

Lunch: omelette, fried mushrooms. Mange tout and red pepper houmous while I cooked. Apple and dark chocolate.

Dinner: lamb rump with some kind of potato...

CrimsonAlligator · 13/10/2022 14:06

Afternoon all! It’s a gorgeous day here, so I used my lunch break to go for a long walk by the beach. I’m living the dream here 😄

Today is a no-exercise day for me, if we ignore the walk, so I’ll have to try and keep my calories under control a bit. So no breakfast today, lunch is pitta with falafel & salad + 2 satsumas, dinner is pasta with chilli, courgette & veggie meatballs, I’ll have skyr & a delicious homegrown pear as a snack 😋

Fingers crossed you feel better soon @ImALittlePea and for a good result tomorrow.

fallfallfall · 13/10/2022 17:55

@ImALittlePea , i had a phone consult yesterday and my u/s is booked for when i get back. they could have fit me in next week if i was available. i hope you're up to snuff very soon. it's so hard when you have a family depending on you. i remember those days.
@TheRealHousewife you know your weight gain isn't food related so be good to yourself and know it was setting down soon. it's just water and once your up and about a bit more it will shift.
i'm still enjoying the higher burn leslie options and have not tried the ab series since last week when i only managed 7 minutes out of 30.
and who mentioned falafels darn that made me hungry!!
b: oatmeal with blueberries and honey ;)
l: open faced ham ruben sandwich
s: spaghetti squash with swiss chard and pine nuts
encouraging weigh in at my lowest of the year 141.1... just .2 from the extreme high end of normal bmi

TheRealHousewife · 13/10/2022 19:08

Evening All

Today has been unexpectedly busy hence not had time to post.

Thank you for your words of wisdom @fallfallfall. I know you’re right ! Try not to worry about your us whilst away, harder said than done I realise.

@CrimsonAlligator Sunshine here too! It got up to 36 degrees in the greenhouse 😎 Great article … thank you for sharing.

@Cloudberries123 your food today is right up my street!

@ImALittlePea sending a big hug… so sorry you’ve had a crap week to date! Back … painful. It’s neuro based as I have altered sensation in my right foot (feels wet when it isn’t) plus terrible nerve pain in middle fingers of both hands. Back is stiff and burning unfortunately. I’m actually quite good at zoning out the pain when at rest. Thank you for checking in 🙂

I’ve had a piece of gluten free fruit cake and a cuppa … very unusual for me. I’m not sweating it as it was blummin’ delicious 😋

Apologies if I’ve missed anyone.

@TheRealHousewife well dd and her partner rented out their london home and moved the family to their home in the south of france, which has hilly terrain but i'm not sure what the plan is. so i won't be soaking up the uk connecting vibes but will be channeling the years of wisdom from our posts to avoid the pastry shops. the 5 days in montreal will also be a challenge but should involve loads of walking (albeit flat) both families tend to drink wine so there will be the occasional social glass but it's not a stumbling block for me at all it's the offer of crisps...dip...and dessert...oh my list grows. both families eat healthy but not low cal enough for me.
the international school in france is better for the grandson but not suitable for the grand daughter...it will be interesting to see how they are coping.

ImALittlePea · 14/10/2022 07:20

Morning!

Bloody delighted at my weigh in today. The sickness and other unrelated emotional turmoil of the week has paid off on the scales (although really, not a trade off I'd have ideally liked) with a 2lb loss. So I'm finally over the 1.5stone loss milestone that has been evading me for weeks and I'm also down into the 9 bracket at last!

So pleased to be ending this week and starting the weekend with a big positive!

Thanks to everyone who wished me well - I'm fully recovered from the bug now, and thankfully the other situations also seem to be resolving. Looking forward to some downtime, a deep clean and seeing some friends over the weekend for the last bit of respite.

No idea on meals today but will not veer off course off the back of thag result.

SanFranBear · 14/10/2022 07:25

Morning... and hasn't it got dark in the mornings now - roll on the clocks going back (I can say that as my DC are older now and actually relish that extra hour in bed - was not fun when they were much smaller!). It's my weigh day today and whilst not quite 0.5kg off, it's still almost 0.5kg off:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 69.9kg
October GW: 69kg

So into the 60's (just) which makes me so happy as means I'm about 6kgs from overall GW! It seemed absolutely unobtainable in January but it feels completely achievable these days - although going to take a while to get there as my loss has slowed right down... but not complaining! So happy 😃

I'm finally going to get out for a decent walk later - hopefully about 15k but staying very 'urban' as it'll have to be after 5 so pretty dark. I'm then going to try and get out early ish tomorrow so I can go into the wilderness a bit more!

Sorry to hear you're still in so much pain, RealHousewife - here's hoping the weekend brings you some relief. And sometimes, cake really is the answer!

Well done on getting so close to the healthy BMI range, fallfall! It's such a milestone.. and your break sounds lovely - good luck in swerving the patisseries!

LastStark - try not to get discouraged.. you'll get back to it soon and I think everyone deserves a little relaxation every now and then...

How's the rowing challenge going, CrimsonAlligator.. is there an 'end event' you're aiming for or just a distance?

Sorry not to take everyone - Fridays are always a bit tricky here as DC done in (and me too at the moment) so getting everything moving seems much harder. That said, I've got 10 minutes now and my little girl cat has jumped on my lap for a cuddle so am going to just enjoy the moment for now! Happy Friday, everyone!!

SanFranBear · 14/10/2022 07:28

Massive well done, LittlePea - not the most ideal route to the loss perhaps, but a loss is a loss is a loss 😉

ImALittlePea · 14/10/2022 07:36

Well done to you too @SanFranBear 🥳

I need to work out what my target is now, don't I 😂

I hope your back is better soon @TheRealHousewife it sounds like a very odd sensation!

milkfromthesleepycow · 14/10/2022 08:10

Congrats @fallfallfall @ImALittlePea @SanFranBear!!
Some very inspiring achievements

TheRealHousewife · 14/10/2022 08:56

Good Morning All

I had a sneak peek 🫣 on scale and I’ve lost 1lb of my 2lb gain (even though yesterday I had cake ). @fallfallfall was right! ❤️ Your family’s lifestyle sounds intriguing. Are you visiting Montreal and France … sorry if that’s a stupid question. I think I must have missed some of your posts. Wherever you’re going I hope you all have a great time!

@ImALittlePea Thats a great silver lining to your illness and what’s been a rough week for you all 👍Welcome to the ‘9’s’ 🙂 I do get all sorts of weird and not so wonderful altered sensations/numbness as well as muscle twitches, spasms and pain. Everyday, it’s just a matter of degree. Better than being paralysed from the neck down which was seriously on the cards.

@SanFranBear Welcome to the ‘60’s’. You’ve be so diligent and consistent; it’s well deserved!

Thank you for the kind words.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean 3 egg omelette with side salad.
Meal 2 - Hake, mash, kale and a sauce of some kind.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Household jobs (in a fashion😬)

Morning 😊 I don’t seem to have been posting much recently - I have been making some not so good food choices (sweets and chocolate anyone?) but doesn’t seem to be affecting the scales too much which is good.

I am excited about my race on Sunday - I feel prepared and the weather forecast looks dry which I prefer. There’s also a marathon going on at the same time but 10 miles is enough for me at the moment at any rate. Maybe another year….

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/10/2022 11:14

Not posted for past few days. One night had cheese omelette and mashed potato and baked beans, last night had cheese slices, mashed potato and spinach (warm).

Had Lebanese lentil and kale soup with a slice of rye/black bread yesterday for lunch.

This morning had oatsosimple, blueberries then croissant and some small Italian pastry thing - no idea what it is, almost looks like an energy ball!

Exercise for past 2 days has literally been walking to train station (13-15 minutes) in morning, then another 20-25 minute walk from station in London. Evening is express bus and then 10 minute walk home.

Cloudberries123 · 14/10/2022 11:56

Walking is the best kind of basic exercise imo, GonnaGetGoing! If all else fails, a good walk can turn my day around physically and mentally. Also, I'd love to know if the Lebanese lentil and kale soup was bought or a recipe? Sounds lovely.

Having a much more positive and motivated end to the week (that symbolic 200g loss did me wonders haha!). Just ordered our food shop and looking forward to healthy yummy food. I was looking in the cupboard and found a multipack of sour cream Popchips that I'd totally forgotten about (never usually buy them) and immediately ate two packs. HOWEVER, I put them properly in a bowl and ate them slowly with my cuppa. Thoroughly enjoyed!

I'm really trying to be mindful and consciously decide to eat things rather than scoffing/eating secretly. There's so much psychological stuff involved in weight loss and I'm trying to unravel mine...

Wishing everyone a happy Friday!

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 14/10/2022 17:04

Day 25
SW:143.2
CW:137
GW:126
6.2lbs in 3.5 weeks.
I fought the urge to mainline the toast and I feel this was my reward.
Will be having crisps and wine tonight before DH and I get into a week of decorating followed by a long weekend away.- with a few good hikes, weather permitting. As I agree that walking is the best exercise.
We are making the most of the empty nest before DD1 and DD2 come back at the end of the month.

TheRealHousewife · 14/10/2022 18:43

Evening Everyone

Enjoy the wine and crisps @Was126orbustandmaybebust … you’ve been diligent all week and got plenty of planned activity coming up.

@Cloudberries123 You are right. Eating is about more than appetite. So many aspects affect it, including physiological. Well done on completing a healthy shop! Having the right foods in is half the battle.

Hi @GonnaGetGoingReturns , nice to see you 😬 Walking is a great exercise! It all adds up.

@MirandaWest Sending good vibes for your race on Sunday 🏃‍♀️

Crumbs … I’ve got to take myself in hand. Cake yesterday and today I’m having a small glass of wine. It’s the log burners fault … cosy fires 🔥 are playing havoc with my usual healthy habits.
