Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! August Thread heres the September Thread!

The start of autumn is the perfect time to overall your way of eating in readiness for the change in seasons. Summer was gone in a flash and now the days are getting fresher; I for one like the cooler climate 🥶 < OK not that cold 😬

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into September! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Cross-post @SanFranBear - well done on your loss! Amazing to see how far you've come since March; such an inspiration!

Re the dizzy/fainty spells - I've been to the GP numerous times. Had blood tests, heart monitors, all sorts of checks and balances, and everything comes back clear. It only really happens when the temperature starts to drop or rise at the change of the seasons?! So it must be down to heat changes going in and out of the house, layers etc? You'd think I'd be better at managing that but apparently not 😏

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 23/09/2022 07:54

That sounds debilitating @ImALittlePea - hope you feel better today. Glad you are on the men @fallfallfall We are freeezing them on baking trays and bagging up @SanFranBear - we will be very glad of them Nov-May before they start again.
Day 4
SW:143.2
CW:140.00
GW:126
3.2lbs in 3 days is very pleasing - so stupid to have let it increase this month and end up having to do it all again but I cannot regret that super summer. We have friends for dinner ( sounds like that episode of Fat Friends where the character justified his weight gain by saying 'we had visitors' and she siad 'what did you do, eat them!") I will ttry to not overdo it.

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 23/09/2022 08:00

oh for an edit button!
@fallfallfall you may be on the men but I'm glad you are on the mend 😂
And obviously, I have let it increase this much for months not just this month.

ImALittlePea · 23/09/2022 08:18

Hahaha what a typo @Was126orbustandmaybebust 🤣🤣

Yes I feel back to normal now thank you. It doesn't take long, thankfully, but throws me off for a day or two when it happens.

Good Morning All

Apologies for not posting. Really under the weather. Fibromyalgia has flared up, in pain and absolutely shattered.

Carry on and keep going!

@TheRealHousewife please don't worry or apologise. Concentrate on yourself - sending lots of get well wishes 💗

SanFranBear · 23/09/2022 12:31

Sending healing and soothing vibes your way, RealHousewife!

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/09/2022 12:50

Hope your pain subsides @TheRealHousewife

MirandaWest · 23/09/2022 14:57

Think that September with a plethora of family birthdays is not my month for losing weight with many sweet things available. But not putting weight on either so could be worse.

I will be excited when I get below 70kg though…

Cloudberries123 · 23/09/2022 15:39

A relative of mine has fibromyalgia @TheRealHousewife it's no joke. Hope you can get some rest and start feeling better soon.

I asked my sister about the scales telling me I'd put on 2.3kg in a week and she said to take it with a pinch of salt. And also to look at scales that tell you water weight, fat muscle etc. Does anyone else have experience of these?

milkfromthesleepycow · 23/09/2022 17:57

Weird how so many of us are poorly! Hope everyone starts feeling better soon 💐

@Cloudberries123 carbs make you retain water, as does heavy exercise (esp weightlifting) as it causes micro tears in the muscle. And that's before you look at hormonal retention. It does come off quickly.
Seems to have been responsible for a lot of holiday gains previously (as well as holiday food 😂)

fallfallfall · 23/09/2022 18:29

@Was126orbustandmaybebust i didn't even pick up on the typo...at 65 my idea of being on men is certainly not like that of a younger woman. that being said i am on my dh's case to get some much-needed tasks around the house completed.
just not into exercise lately. no snacking as i simply don't have any in the house.
food choices are fine and lower calorie. dh entered his calories after supper and he had consumed 980 or so and therefore had a massive bowl of yogurt with seeds and nuts and fruit to ward off "starvation" and since we basically eat the same and my portions are often smaller i wasn't worried about my intake.
B: single crepe with stewed fruit (plum, rhubarb, apple, and blueberry)
L: halloumi and swiss chard (i might pull up that section of the garden IF i drum up the energy, yesterday i pulled up the tomato plants)
S: taco seasoned ground beef with squash the Delicato one with edible skin
i'm drinking my 2L of water but not more :(, i could focus on that.

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 24/09/2022 08:30

Love that @fallfallfall - keep on his case!
Day 5
SW:143.2
CW:141.00
GW:126
Had the friends for dinner and really enjoyed it - up a lb so 2.2lbs in 5 days.
That's ok and tbh as expected after a rather delicious three courses and a few glasses of wine.
I'll get on it today.
Sorry people are feeling ill - be gentle with yoursleves - the weight will still be there ready to be lost in a few days.

ImALittlePea · 24/09/2022 11:12

Also feeling unwell over here - but self inflicted in my case 🥴 dinner ended up being super late (and super yummy) so the wine went to our heads a bit more than usual. Great night though so no regrets!

HOWEVER, I'm staying strong and not going to let it derail me today. DH has taken DS to McDonald's but I'm having my salad as planned. Out tonight to another friends house, birthday celebrations including takeaway and drinks.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Cloudberries123 · 24/09/2022 16:41

Thanks @milkfromthesleepycow I do know a fair bit about nutrition, but I've got to learn more about carbs, water retention and the things you mention.

I have been doing a lot more walking in the past two-three weeks, and consequently hungrier and thirstier. The challenge is to choose good nutritious things, and not reach for a quick hit of sugar and fat out of habit. Tricky on days like today when we are 'at the bottom of the barrel' waiting for tomorrow's shopping delivery!

Rewis · 25/09/2022 11:51

Went to a bar yesterday with young people. Now I have a sore throat from all the karaoke. Went to get a 4am night snack but decided to go for the hotsauce....that was a but too hot so only had some. Which was probably good so it wasn't too greasy 😃

TheRealHousewife · 25/09/2022 11:58

Good Morning All

Apologies. Just wanted to touch base and let you know why I’ve remained absent. One virus/bug after another coupled with a flare up. Currently I’m in absolute agony with stomach ache. The type that comes in waves, bends you double and gives you sweats.

Hopefully will feel better sooner rather than later. Love and kind thoughts to you all ❤️

Oh @TheRealHousewife - that sounds dreadful. I hope you start to feel better really soon.💙

fallfallfall · 25/09/2022 21:35

Tea along with positive thoughts and prayers @TheRealHousewife, I hope you feel better very soon.
i’m lacking exercise motivation but food choices are healthy although not low calorie (pasta).
Beef and barley soup on the go.

JacquelineCarlyle · 25/09/2022 23:57

Oh no @TheRealHousewife, hope you feel better soon.

SanFranBear · 26/09/2022 08:45

Sorry to hear you're still feeling rubbish, RealHousewife - hope you've started to turn a corner and that's it for the winter. And for you too, LittlePea, although yours sounds a little more temporary 😉

I had a nice if busy weekend away - the party on Saturday was lovely although very tame which wasn't a bad thing. I still inhaled too much pizza and drank a few too many beers but hey - it was a party! Also had a serious slice of Rolo cheesecake which was divine! I avoid Rolo's as they're Evil Nestle and cheesecake is so calorific but it was possibly one of the nicest desserts I have eaten for months!

Came home and popped into see ExMIL as its her birthday today so more cake and treats bit today is a new start to a new week so will get back on it.

Trying out a Chubby Cubs recipe tonight from my new cookbook - should be lamb & halloumi meatballs but there was no lamb in the shop so going with beef but hoping they'll be tasty?

TheRealHousewife · 26/09/2022 08:52

Good Morning All 😊

Thank you for the kind words❤️

I’m feeling more lively this morning, which I’m pleased about as I’ve got an ironing pile as tall as Kilimanjaro and the house needs full clean.

Menu
Meal 1 - Chicken soup. Warburton Thin. Walnuts, apple.
Meal 2 - GF Vegetable Quiche, green beans, carrots & peas.
Tea, black coffee & water.

@fallfallfall Your beef & barley soup sounds tasty. Enjoy! Barley is one of the grains I miss most. Had to give it up; unfortunately it contains gluten.

@ImALittlePea Hope you soon feel better!

@Cloudberries123 Thank you 🙏

I’ve read the thread back a couple of days and will try to catch up later … for now the hoover is yelling my name 😬

Exercise
Session 1 - Housework 😬
Session 2 - Yoga 🧘‍♀️

Well done everyone for keeping going, even when it’s tough and the scales are reluctant to reward you with lower numbers. At those times focus on the NSV! Enjoy your day!

Morning all! Happy Monday!

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better this morning @TheRealHousewife - please take it easy today though!

Happy to confirm that I'm fully recovered from my mysterious illness on Saturday 👀🍾 weekend wasn't as naughty as normal.. we had takeaway at a friend's house Saturday night but didn't eat as much as normal as it wasn't the nicest, unfortunately. Lunches each day was a salad instead of something bread based - but I did have some crisps. Just making my meal plan for the week then off to do a Big Shop. Going to have to seriously strategise to manage a loss though as it's my eldest's birthday mid week so there will be all the treats 😬will update on meals later!

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 26/09/2022 11:02

Glad everyone is on the MEND.
Day 7
SW:143.2
CW:140.2
GW:126
3lbs in 7 days - onwards and inwards.

Cloudberries123 · 26/09/2022 12:05

Morning all. Glad you're feeling better RealHousewife and LittlePea, and all those who have been on the men 😉

Had a fairly free and easy weekend foodwise, which I'm now regretting. Two little insights - that on the weekends, I tend to eat like my partner, who to me is a classic man: starts the day off with a couple of sugary coffees, eats a couple of snacks during the day (cake or a sandwich) and then gets most of his calories from a massive meal in the evening, complete with dessert. It just doesn't work for me, but it's so easy to slip into.

The other thing I noticed was that my sister-in-law, who came round yesterday with her kids and is very slim and fit, declined a single biscuit. To me this would be madness - it's 'only one' and it's yummy! But it reminded me of the phrase you sometimes see on here of 'eat like a thin person'. She loves food but clearly pays attention to what she eats, and for her that includes saying no to one biscuit sometimes.

Hope everyone else's week is off to a good start 😊
