Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

I commend your restraint @Dashel, I'd have probably succumbed to the large pizza in those circumstances!

Oh no @TheBatwoman, hope your DD is OK. The influx of germs does settle down, I'm told little ones who've been to nursery are bullet proof by primary school 🙃

TheBatwoman · 17/10/2022 09:13

Good call with the meal plan @MuddyBoo. I swear by it. I started doing the meal plans when I was pregnant to make life easier and it’s been game changer since we’ve had the twins.

I think it’s helped us save money too, as I do the food shop based on the meal plan, so we don’t tend to buy stuff we don’t need. That’s been another good incentive!

I hope you find it helpful, as we certainly have.

TheBatwoman · 17/10/2022 09:16

Thanks @WutheringShites86. Batgirl is a tough little cookie, so she’ll be okay I’m sure. Just not nice seeing them like this and obviously very challenging with childcare.

My aunt was a primary school teacher and she’s said the same, so hopefully it’ll serve them well later!

TheBatwoman · 18/10/2022 21:06

My DW is currently sat next to me on the sofa eating dark chocolate digestive biscuits while I’m on a diet. Surely that’s grounds for divorce right? 😂do any of you have to put up with this too?

Absolutely 🤣

@TheBatwoman how is DD today?

DH is 95% supportive. More so on food than exercise. Sometimes I feel like I’m dragging a child to pe class. However he had some neck pain after we did a weights video that was quite quick and not the normal Joe Wicks and then I kind of dragged him onto a spin bike a few days later and he has been morning a lot so I gave him my physio appointment today and it turns out he had done something to a disc 🫣 I’m feeling pretty guilty now.

He has been told no weights or vigorous movements and although he should keep gently moving, so it sounds like it will be mainly walking for a while, maybe some yoga for him. Certainly the rest of the patio will have to wait until next year now.

I still have DOMs but did an arm workout as wanted to spin but couldn’t face sitting on the bike seat , also hit my 15k steps and tbh feeling a bit tired, down and sore today. Still got to keep going 🥺

TheBatwoman · 18/10/2022 21:58

She’s doing alright all things considered thank you @Dashel - she’s a real trooper!

You’re doing great with the exercise, well done! Sorry to hear about DH’s injury though. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Try not to feel guilty though, you weren’t to know! Good that he is supportive though. I think it really helps.

To be fair, DW is pretty supportive, albeit a bit oblivious at times! It genuinely doesn’t occur to her I think. She’s very encouraging and will have the twins for me to exercise as much as I’d like really, although I’ve long since given up trying to get her to join me on runs. I once had to bribe her with a muffin just to get her to finish a run!

Signed up for another 5K to give me some focus getting back into training post-covid. I really miss weight training, but I’ve got a hernia post-pregnancy unfortunately, so not really allowed at the moment. Hopefully soon once they decide what to do about it. What weights workouts do you do?

WutheringShites86 · 18/10/2022 22:18

Thats an outrage @TheBatwoman! My DP is one of those eat whatever you fancy and stay slim types and it's hard to not get cajoled into partaking with him sometimes.

I did succumb to a piece of chocolate fudge cake at a work event this afternoon but I've managed to stay within my calorie allowance and it was bloody lovely so no regrets really!

Oh dear @Dashel, hope your DH has a quick recovery.

Dashel · 19/10/2022 06:49

@WutheringShites86 that must be really frustrating! Thankfully DH is like me in that cake fumes are enough for him to put on a pound.

Thank you both for your wishes for DH.

I have been doing the Joe Wicks ones. He has a series called 21 days of strength on YouTube, so free. He demonstrates the moves and takes them at a gentle pace and I enjoy doing them. They are repeatable. I tried some of the weights work out on Fit On and there is a core one that I quite like but they are all so fast. I also have a Les Mills subscription and Body Pump is really good but I haven’t done that in a while. Due to my gym having lots of stuff stored in it because we are redoing another room. And our Firestick is very temperamental and I don’t want to risk moving it to the living room as we need it in there for spinning.I should just get a second Firestick 🤣

My weight has been fluctuating at 10st 9 or 10st 8 for the last few days. Because I track it on Fitbit with Fitbit scales, all my weights show on the app and it gives you the daily figure and the weekly average and the average is coming down and that’s the figure I need to focus on.So this is working and I’m sure having DOMs doesn’t help with water weight.

Just got to keep going!

Stepcount · 20/10/2022 09:04

I’m still here! I was hoping to get my backside into a new regime with food and work following my sister’s departure but I have been blessed with a head cold this week. And the only times I have felt marginally better was when I had eaten- feed a cold and starve a fever ringing around my head in my lovely late DM’s voice ! I’m back to my weekend low again today so hoping that a couple of days of sensible eating might see another little downshift before Sunday weigh in. 🤞🏼 Sending positive encouragement to everyone. 💪🏻

christmas2022 · 20/10/2022 10:53

Im fluctuating around 11st 8lb at the moment.

I want to lose a good 4 pound over the next week!

Dashel · 21/10/2022 07:19

@Stepcount I hope that you are feeling better now and cracking on.

@christmas2022 4lb in a week is huge are you doing something very low calorie?

I weighed in at 10st 8.2lb this morning but have been still fluctuating on the 10st 8 to 9 lb mark. I have seen a lovely jumper in Next that I want and I’m not even going to let myself try it on until I’m under 10 and a half stone. I’m hoping for a bit of extra motivation.

We went to see friends last night and I wore a dress and felt good about doing that. I definitely want to feel a bit more glam, not that this was anything special, just a knee length jumper dress worn with leggings but it is nipped in at the waist and the main thing …. It isn’t jeans! I am definitely making more of an effort with my appearance, but my starting point is no make up, jeans a hoody and hair always tied back and no skin care routine, so not very glam at all. I know try and remember to use overnight moisturiser on my face, so living the celebrity stylist life 🤣

Stepcount · 21/10/2022 08:37

Thanks @Dashel I have had a reasonable couple of days and my cold is slowly shifting. I’m down 1.5 lbs this morning so that is a nice boost and have hit a mini target I set myself.
Your clothes from last night sound great and well done on making an effort. I can be lazy when it comes to day wear and going about my house stuff etc but I have had to start making more of an effort with my appearance for work. Funnily enough just before bed last night I tried on a few things that I haven’t been able to fit into since the start of the pandemic! Bought when I was at my lightest and before lockdown comfort eating kicked in. Although nothing made it back into the main wardrobe things are definitely less tight /will almost do up 😂 although I have a weight target in mind I have decided that I shouldn’t stop until everything in there either fits me or I no longer like.
Have a good day @Dashel , you are already at a weight I would love to reach but I understand everyone has their own idea of what they feel comfortable at. Fingers crossed that the Next jumper is in your wardrobe very soon 🤞🏼

MuddyBoo · 22/10/2022 08:50

Well, I've reached a point now where to make progress I have to put in more effort but I also seem to have less time for doing everything that I want to do. Been chasing my tail all week. Head is properly frazzled.

At the moment I'm 1lb down from last week and will be careful today so that it stays that way for tomorrow.

I've not done any exercise properly in the last three weeks but I should be able to fit some in this week as its half term.

But think I'm going to adjust my original target of losing 30lbs for Christmas. And just focus on trying to lose 1lb at a time and see where I end up.

On the plus side I already feel happier and more comfortable today than I did mid-August. Every little helps, as the supermarkets say!

Dashel · 22/10/2022 09:59

@Stepcount congrats on the 1.5lb loss that is great!Thats really great about trying on old clothes than now fit. It does help to motivate to keep going and I’m sure they will be a comfortable fit before you know it. You are right in that we all have different targets for our ideal weights and I’m not even sure what my end goal really is.

@MuddyBoo progress is progress and a pound a week loss is still a further loss of 9lb before Christmas! That is my aim as well. I am pleased that you are feeling in a better place than when you started.

I have been exceedingly happy this morning as I am the lightest I have been in the history of recording my weight and I can for the first time in about 20 years say that I’m ten and a half stone 🥳

I know it will probably bounce around for a bit depending on water weight, carbs, poop, DOMs, bloating etc etc but to see that on the scale was really great.
My Fitbit weekly weight average is 1lb loss compared to the average from last week so happy with that as well.

I think DH is struggling more than I am as he keeps wanting to eat junky snacks where as if I snack I try and pick something not too bad and just have one. He kept suggesting we break into the chocolate stash that’s hidden and that was after he munched a bag of crisps! I am trying to keep him motivated but I know he is tired and in pain with his neck.

Stepcount · 22/10/2022 10:14

Yay@Dashel what a fantastic update. It must be a great feeling. And well done on holding off on the snacks. Ironically I probably snack less when my DP is here ( we don’t live together) maybe when we do I might also get to 10 st 👀🤔😅
@MuddyBoo I’m also in the 1lb a week target camp. If you are feeling frazzled then maybe this weekend should be focusing on eating well and getting plenty of rest- before the exercise surge of half term !
🏃‍♀️🍂🏋️‍♀️🍁💃

WutheringShites86 · 22/10/2022 20:02

@Stepcount, @Dashel and @MuddyBoo, congratulations! You are all doing great!

I seem to have lost my mojo for the last few days and I've been making bad food choices for sure. Will try to pull it back tomorrow and start fresh again on Monday. I'm not giving in completely!

MuddyBoo · 23/10/2022 07:30

My mum went from not wanting to do anything for her birthday, to deciding yesterday to invite the whole family round for a Chinese takeaway, and it was delicious and fun so I regret nothing but I am back to 10st5 (again) this morning...so no weight change for me this week.

Ah well, will try again next week!

Dashel · 23/10/2022 08:46

@MuddyBoo its really hard when we get things like that. It’s hard to have a diet Chinese takeaway. I did take a ready meal to a friends house when they wanted a takeaway as I knew she wouldn’t mind and figured it would be less calorific although not as nice!

@WutheringShites86 when I loose my mojo, I try and focus on where I want to be in a months time or 6 months time or Christmas etc and then kick my own butt by telling myself in a loud voice that slacking or snacking isn’t going to get me to where I want to be.

@Stepcount I am pretty happy, I know I’m still carrying too much weight for me, I’m only 5ft 3 and 36.5% body fat according to my scales (which I know aren’t 100% accurate) , but it feels like a turning point and a bit of if I can get here I can get to 10st.

I weighed in at 10st 7 again this morning 🥳 I was feeling quite rough yesterday so didn’t do much at all and still have a killer sore throat today 🥺but am going to try and get out and some steps in.

I know that the darker days, rain, wind and cold weather all make it harder for me but I am keeping focused on the end result.

WutheringShites86 · 23/10/2022 12:02

Back up to 15st for me 😔. All my own fault, I just seem to be losing and gaining the same 2lbs at the moment. Think it's probably bloat from the bad food choices more than actual weight on but still, annoyed with myself!

OK, time to pull myself together!

Stepcount · 23/10/2022 12:19

@OhFatty my weigh in/check in is -1lb. I’m slightly up on my low from a couple of days ago but I have been indulging a little. I find giving myself some slack is the only way for me to keep generally in the right frame of mind.
9weeks today is Christmas Day so aiming for 9lbs loss minimum, 1stone would be even better .
Keep going 💪🏻

Dashel · 23/10/2022 14:02

@WutheringShites86 sorry your scales didn’t give you the results you wanted. Try to focus going forward, can you you meal plan or batch cook some healthy meals for next week or do some exercise?

@Stepcount congrats on the 1lb loss.

I am back from my walk we did 19k steps and according to Fitbit I burnt 920 calories 🥳 however I got pretty wet and my right knee got a little sore. Whilst we do a lot of steps daily it’s spread out over the day, so I suspect I may be a little sore after this!

WutheringShites86 · 23/10/2022 14:15

Thanks for the support @Dashel. I do meal plan, tesco delivery comes every Sunday and I plan for the week's evening meals so clean slate again today. Its more been a lack of motivation to eat well for work lunches and snacking the last few days.

I work full time, toddler doesn't sleep well and DP has some mental health issues which mean I'm often doing more than my fair share at home. It's not a great mix for leaving time for my self care and I'm definitely an emotional eater.

Dashel · 24/10/2022 20:18

@WutheringShites86 I hope today has been better. It sounds like you have a lot on.

I finished on 25k steps yesterday and my legs are feeling a tad sore today. I was 10st 8 this morning, but have managed a upper body weight workout and 17k steps today and am very tired 🥺

I hope you all had a good day

WutheringShites86 · 24/10/2022 20:47

Thank you @Dashel, it has been much better and I've finished the day on a decent calorie deficit.

Well done on your exercise, hopefully you won't be too sore.

WheelofLife · 25/10/2022 20:50

Thank you for keeping me on the list @OhFatty I was here weeks ago but had problems at work with bullying. Been off on stress leave but going through mediation now. Have been working from home. Lost weight but put it back on again. Still two months to Christmas, so am giving it my best shot from here on in.
Have changed my scales from kilos to stones

So 11stone 2. Would like to be 9 and a half, or a size 12, whichever comes first.

My pledge….any clothes that don’t fit me by Christmas are going to the charity shop.

And hello to everyone else :)
