Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

Happy birthday @MuddyBoo!

I'm struggling with a chest infection this week so trying to get some rest and not worry too much about the scales.

LaTangerina · 15/10/2022 09:47

Hi ladies just checking in!
I weighted in at 8st 3 yesterday, so since I joined this thread I've lost 7 lbs, could you add that when you update the list @OhFatty please?
I have only 3 lbs to go until I'm at my ideal weight. I'm very happy with this!
Just went for a forest walk with my dog early this morning.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Dashel · 15/10/2022 10:31

@WutheringShites86 i hope you feel better soon!

@LaTangerina you are doing so well! 7lb is a great loss especially when you are in the 8s to start with.

I am still 10st 9lb 😡 I just need to keep focused and going and not expect the scale to drop daily.. I have zero patience!

I think it’s 10 weeks to Christmas Eve today so to get to my target for then it’s a pound a week to do.

This morning I did a Joe Wicks weights upper body workout and got to use my new 7.5kg weights for some of it which I was super pleased with. I am going to go for a walk in a bit and I have been hitting my 15k steps each day.

I am finding the weather very demotivating and this is much harder at the moment not to eat crap and sit around the house.

Stepcount · 15/10/2022 12:39

I have finally seen the next stone marker on my scales ! I genuinely thought that something must be up with them 😂 only a small loss but happy to have broken through a bit of a barrier. Yes, 10 weeks @Dashel . I’m also looking at losing 10lbs more minimum (12lbs preferably) as my new target for Christmas Eve. That would bring me to the 2 stone loss which was my original aim. My sister has moved on to see her son now so I can concentrate on a healthier and better eating pattern that works for my new schedule ( out 4-8pm every weekday)
Have a lovely weekend everyone 🤞🏼

Dashel · 15/10/2022 14:24

@Stepcount congratulations on your break through! That must be a great feeling.

We had a lovely but windy walk and I was pondering how I tweak things to help speed up my loss and help me hit my target. So apart from making sure my food intake is spot on, I have decided that the obvious answer is housework….. yup I’m getting that desperate! I’m going to start ironing more things and generally try to be a bit more active after work and in the advert breaks.

There is only so much traditional exercise and walking I want to do, an hours ironing burns 157 calories

www.womanandhome.com/health-and-wellbeing/how-many-calories-do-you-burn-doing-household-chores-90775/

Any other unusual suggestions greatly received! Might try an Epsom salt bath as well, but that sounds nicer!

LaTangerina · 15/10/2022 14:26

@Dashel I said it before & it's true for me at least, I won't weigh myself until every 2 weeks because I get disheartened when the scales don't shift. Especially as the scales could go up on days your carrying water after pasta, rice etc.
Don't let it put you off!
It's 90% diet though I think ... its so hard when the treats are in the house & you're feeling hungry. I honestly would clear the house of treats you end up caving for. Buy treats for the family that you aren't keen on!
I've found when I am getting a sugar craving, I make myself toast from the 60 calorie bread & put a teaspoon of almond/cashew/or peanut butter between the 2 slices (so half a teaspoon on each slice). Also a cup of options hot chocolate with hot water, those things have helped me & then I've not felt so deprived!
I've also recently started buying a tub of 0% fat Greek yoghurt & having some of that with berries & a tablespoon of granola.
Both those are good snacks I found if you need a treat.

LaTangerina · 15/10/2022 14:29

I meant to say a massive well done on the exercise too, you are doing way more than me, I'm only walking.
I try not to eat my calories back too, just another thing thats worked for me.
I never thought I'd see this weight again, I thought those days were over!
I'm looking forward to getting to 8 & then eating to maintain instead.

LaTangerina · 15/10/2022 14:31

Just to add I know 8 St might seem low to some but I'm petite & it's midrange bmi for me.

Dashel · 15/10/2022 17:19

@LaTangerina all the treats are in a box in the spare wardrobe and I have resisted temptation- even when we had friends round for drinks and nibbles. I had tea/ green tea and didn’t have any nuts or crisps. I don’t miss alcohol at all when I’m at home.

I have the high protein soya chocolate milk microwaved as a hot chocolate very occasionally as a treat or frog spawn as DH calls it, soya milk with chia seeds in it with a few berries.

Im not eating the exercise back like MFP gives you the calories but if I’m starving then I might have an apple or a bag of 62 calorie popcorn. I tend to do anything other than walking before a meal, usually before breakfast so I can eat a high protein meal afterwards.

I know the saying that abs are made in the kitchen is true and I know everything I am supposed to do, I just want some cheats that probably don’t exist.

DH and I did spend a couple of hours cleaning and I still think being a bit more house proud will help as it’s burning more calories. At weekends we are pretty active and do a lot of DIY as well.

LaTangerina · 16/10/2022 06:36

@Dashel you sound like you're doing everything right! I like your soya milk idea I'll look into that myself, always open to new food ideas.
I think it takes some days to show results even after exercise so you will get your results, just hang on in there!

MuddyBoo · 16/10/2022 07:24

Thank you for all the birthday wishes. I'm 10st5 today so no change from last week which I'm OK with because I really thought I had put weight on...I did not resist the birthday indulgence!

10 weeks to Christmas! Yikes! I really want to stay on it now, more focus, fewer excuses, more meal planning and more exercise...even if it is just energetic house cleaning.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 16/10/2022 09:31

1.5lbs off for me this week taking me to 13st 8.5 from a starting weight of 15st 10

original target was to get to 13st by Christmas but now hoping for 12st 13 - think being under 13st will feel like a big achievement

Dashel · 16/10/2022 10:12

Morning everyone 😄

@MuddyBoo I would call not gaining weight after a birthday a result!

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday You are doing so well, that’s a big loss and it’s always great to have a lower stone number

I weighed in at 10st 8.5lb this morning and am very happy with that. I did leg day with Joe and used my new weights again 🤩 only the 7.5kg ones but still I’m very pleased with that too. I have DOMs in my arms which always makes me smile too so a good morning. I have even put a dress on as I feel more confident and my stomach is smaller.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 16/10/2022 12:11

Thank you @Dashel its been very slow progress with a very up and down start but the highest number I saw on the scales this year was 15st 10 so I’m taking that as start point. It’s taken me 4 months+ to lose 1.5st so about 1lb a week seems to be the pace I’m going at. Will get there.

TheBatwoman · 16/10/2022 13:40

I hope you feel better soon @WutheringShites86. I completely sympathise, as was just getting over a chest infection myself the twins brought COVID home from nursery! Hope you’re managing ok. It’s not easy juggling parenting and everything else when you’re not well. Feel better soon.

Well done on some excellent results everyone. Great to see such great progress.

Sorry I forgot to post my weigh in this week @OhFatty. It was no change for me this week, but given the COVID situation, I’ll take it! Still feeling pretty rough, but the twins are much better now at least, so hoping I’ll be able to focus on the diet & exercise again now at least.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

WutheringShites86 · 16/10/2022 13:54

Thanks @TheBatwoman, hope you are feeling fighting fit soon too.

I'm 14st 12lbs so a 2lbs loss this week for me. Pretty pleasantly surprised to be back in the 14s, have been much more sedentary than usual with being ill but I think I maintained last week due to hormonal bloat so might be that passing.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone

TheBatwoman · 16/10/2022 14:01

Well done @WutheringShites86 - great result, especially when you’ve not been well. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday

Stepcount · 16/10/2022 14:49

@TheBatwoman I hope you’re all feeling better now, it must’ve been awful. @WutheringShites86 i hope you feel better soon. There seem to be some horrible things going round.

@Dashel you really are inspirational, and as god you @LaTangerina i think I was heavier that you are when I was born! I do understand though as, although I’m like a carthorse, my eldest is very petite. She struggles to keep weight on, and moans that size 4 clothes come up big. We’re all made differently

wishing everyone a lovely week. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll lose 2lbs tomorrow

Dashel · 17/10/2022 06:54

@OhFatty you made me blush, I don’t feel very inspiring this morning. The DOMs have really kicked in. My arms were sore yesterday but my under butt and thighs are really sore this morning. We are going for a pre walk work to see if that helps 😩 Good luck for your weigh in.

We had a good day out in Durham yesterday which was nice and got our steps in. We had lunch in Pizza Express and I had sparkling water, a 573 cal pizza with a hole and salad and we shared a slaw (another 80 cals). It was good to eat out and I still enjoyed my food. Everyone around us had huge pizzas with a starters or sides. It felt good though knowing That even if the macros weren’t ideal, the calories were relatively ok.

I thought finding vegan options could be hard, finding diet vegan options is really hard, although DH would rather avoid anywhere that does good chips to avoid temptation 🤣 so I wasn’t the only one checking the menus carefully.

I put on half a pound this morning, but with DOMs and the pizza I’m not surprised, I’m sure it will go down again soon 😀

@Stepcount @WutheringShites86 congratulations on your weight losses!

MuddyBoo · 17/10/2022 07:28

Well done for sticking to your diet guns whilst eating out @Dashel ! That's a weakness of mine.

I'm going to start this week by doing a meal plan and food shop. Time to make some good choices!

Hope you all have a good Monday!

Dashel · 17/10/2022 08:48

It was hard to have a better option. I could have had the salad which would have been better but what I wanted was dough balls and a bigger pizza so I think I made a choice that made it a treat but not something I would regret afterwards. You can probably tell that there was a lot of over thinking about my food choice!

OhFatty · 17/10/2022 09:03

@Dashel That really is fantastic, and good to know that if you need pizza, you can have it occasionally. I think it makes a difference just knowing that. My eldest lives in Leeds, and loves all the vegan restaurants. Around the corner from her flat is a vegan Chinese, and a vegan fish and chip shop. She’s happy as a sand boy!! There’s nothing like that where we live.

A meal plan sounds brilliant @MuddyBoo I ought to start doing that too, but I’m not very organised.
Well I guess I’d better weigh myself. I’ve been putting it off since 7!!

Have a lovely week everyone 😀

Thanks @OhFatty. It’s been a rough few weeks and now to top it all off it looks like DD has chicken pox. She’s only just got over Covid bless her. Feels like we just can’t catch a break at the moment, but I’m sure it’ll pass. They weren’t kidding when they said how much they’d pick up from nursery!

Well done @Stepcount and @Dashel. Always so great to see the positive updates.
