Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

Hi everyone!

I haven’t had chance to catch up on the posts yet but a quick skim of this page looks like everyone is doing really well!

We got back from our 11 night all inclusive on Thursday. I only made the gym twice as it was worse than the equipment I had at home and really hot. We did do loads of walking even if our diets were not great.

I weighed in at 11st 3 on Friday morning and am now 10st 11 again 😩

Oh well, onwards and downwards!

I did weights on Friday, HIIT yesterday and dragged DH on the spin bikes for a 20 min RPM session today. I honestly thought I was going to vomit but thankfully didn’t. We are also back from a 40 min walk to get our steps up.

We are having a friend round for dinner to say thank you for cat sitting tonight so the evening meal will be off plan a bit vegan shepherds pie with loads of veg and a plum crumble. I am back to no drinking alcohol again now so that will help.

It’s so brilliant to see everyone’s losses. @Dashel I'm not sure if you’ve lost anything after your all inclusive holiday (doubtful!) but if you have, let me know and I’ll update the list

Wuthering, it’s so so hard but will pass. My eldest was a brilliant sleeper, so I thought parenting was easy. Then I had my second… 😂😂😂. My eldest has come to stay this weekend and is currently in bed having a nap. Worn out after an afternoon on the sofa watching a film! It’s so lovely to have her home.

@OhFatty Thank you for the offer but I currently weigh a pound more than before I left so whilst it could have been a lot worse, I need to be on it this week!

Thanks @OhFatty and @yearofthefat, hoping to get a sleeper next time! 😅

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 02/10/2022 21:41

Am I too late to join?

I started losing about 4 months ago and it’s been slow progress. Managing to shift on average just over a lb a week which is great and I keep reminding myself it’s slow & steady etc etc but it’s getting so hard to maintain motivation when it’s snails pace progress.

starting weight at beginning of June 15st 10 (I’m 5ft 9)
current weight 13st 11

hoping next lb feels like a little milestone as it’ll be 2 whole stones

target is 11st 7 which would put me firmly in ‘healthy weight’ range

plan for this week is to up veg intake a bit

MuddyBoo · 03/10/2022 07:56

Welcome to the thread @Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday ! Congratulations on your losses, slow and steady often is a winner but the endurance part can be very testing.

Hope everyone has a good Monday lined up. I'm kind of on an errands day today so I'm going to make sure I bring fruit with me for snacks before I impulse buy chocolate bars in town

OhFatty · 03/10/2022 10:05

Happy Monday everyone, and welcome @Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday I’ll add you to the list on Sunday.

I lost 2lbs this week which I’m pleased with but also a teeny bit disappointed as three would take my loss to 3 and a half stone (since June). I’m lucky to have lost 2lbs though, as we had the most gorgeous Chinese on Thursday to celebrate by daughter coming home (it was her request, and I couldn’t say no!), I also had leftovers for lunch on Friday. It was so good!

@Dashel only putting on 1lb is amazing 🤩

I hope everyone has a good week. It’s scary how fast Christmas is coming round 🎄

@ohfatty that's blooming amazing you've lost almost 3 and a half stone since June! Well done you! You've almost caught up to me & I started in March 😆

OhFatty · 03/10/2022 14:21

@LaTangerina yours is sooooo much better as you’re SO near your target weight. I’m really not, but I feel a thousand times better, and I’m really pleased with how it’s going. I’ve lost a lot of weight twice before - once with a complete meal replacement diet, which worked well until it made me ill. I had to have surgery, and put weight on so quickly. The other time was me being an idiot and trying to eat under 800 cals a day. I lost over 9 stone, but eventually cracked, and was soon back where I started. Im hoping this time will be different. I’m not losing weight super quickly, and do have the occasional treat like the Chinese takeaway. Yeah I still be plodding away this time next year, but that’s ok.

Sorry for the rambling!!

OP posts:
LaTangerina · 03/10/2022 15:08

@ohfatty Yes I definitely think this time will be different for you, because meal replacements & eating dangerously low calories are both not sustainable.
This time you're doing it sensibly & not depriving yourself. You're doing amazingly!
I probably could actually stop but I have this figure in my head which is midrange bmi for me, so want to push to get there. Then I can relax.
I've definitely learnt better habits doing this & sounds like you & everyone else has also.
Hope everyone has a good week x

Dashel · 03/10/2022 19:33

@yearofthefat @OhFatty i am surprised at the small gain, I ate quite a bit, drank a fair bit of fizz and sangria (although not every day) but I walked loads.

I managed an arm day with weights pre work and a 40 minute walk after work. I’m going to hit my 15k step target.

@OhFatty very nearly 3 and a half stone is epic! I hope you reward yourself and are proud of your achievement! It’s better to lose it as a new lifestyle than as a crash diet.

@LaTangerina your loss is amazing too! I hope you are also equally proud of yourself!

I would like to be firmly under 10st by Christmas. I have decided if I am not then I will get a PT to beat me into submission!

TheBatwoman · 04/10/2022 07:47

Hope your sleep situation improves soon @WutheringShites86. I really do know how you feel and I hope things get better soon x

Hope you enjoyed your family weekend @OhFatty

My weigh in this week was just -1lb (totally expected with a change to my steroids for my asthma).

Sorry still trying to catch up on the thread - been quite unwell still unfortunately, so been a bit less on the ball. Well done to all of you making great progress and to those that have had a more challenging time, hope things look up soon.

WutheringShites86 · 04/10/2022 08:52

Thank you @TheBatwoman.

You really do so well to keep losing no matter what else you have going on! Hope you are on the mend now.

TheBatwoman · 04/10/2022 10:24

Thank you @WutheringShites86. Really appreciate that! Hopefully getting there thanks. Hoping that the change in meds will bring everything back under control and I’ll be back to business as usual. Have actually really missed my exercise, so just hoping I can do more again soon!

LaTangerina · 04/10/2022 16:00

@dashel I am really happy with it thank you! It sounds like you are well on the right track you can absolutely be 10 stone by Christmas. You sound like you're doing brilliantly with the exercising. I try to not eat my calories back from exercising (obviously impossible some days though).
Hope it comes off really fast for you x

Dashel · 04/10/2022 21:59

@LaTangerina thank you for faith in me! It’s more than I have. I tend to start off well and then give up after a few weeks.

The scales are up a pound this morning to 10st 12lb 😤

I managed ok with food today and 15k steps but no proper exercise except walking.

I had to nip to the supermarket and nearly succumbed to some cakes. It was a terrible craving but I was strong!

Stepcount · 05/10/2022 08:19

I’ve started a new job and it’s thrown my eating pattern out completely. I have a late breakfast but then don’t eat again until after I finish (8pm) by which stage I am hungry and a bit in the mindset of’ oh I haven’t eaten all day’ and don’t pay as much heed to the calorie content. Also at 8pm there’s no chance for those calories to be burned off. I think I’m going to have to have a lighter, earlier breakfast and my biggest meal before I start work at 4pm. Sorry just a bit of a brain dump. No loss since the weekend, think my food has been a bit carb heavy.

LaTangerina · 05/10/2022 10:24

@DaDashel you can definitely do it, it just takes time & perseverance. Don't let the scales put you off. I found it better to weigh myself every 2-3 weeks not weekly as you can see more of a result then.
Yeah the trick for me was not buying any of the snacky stuff I like, literally not having it in the house. I'd still buy stuff for the kids & husband but only stuff I don't like 😂
Options hot chocolate is good to have handy if you have a craving as it's only 40 calories.
Have you input your height/weight/age into the free MyFitnessPal app to see what calories it gives you for a day?
I found this very handy & also it counts your steps & you can input all food into there to keep track.
I only walk too but its still good exercise & works.

Dashel · 05/10/2022 21:20

Thanks @LaTangerina I sound awfully lazy but I haven’t been using MFP or properly calorie counting. I mostly use the recipes on the body coach app or keep within a maximum of 500 calories per meal for lunch and 600 for dinner and 400 for breakfasts.

@Stepcount congrats on the new job. Could you batch cook on the weekend and prepare some good choices?

I got my 15k steps today, did a 10 min dumbbell core workout on FitOn and a Shabam dance class for 30 minutes today. I was still 10st 12 on the scales this morning so fingers crossed for a better result in the morning.

Stepcount · 06/10/2022 08:32

@Dashel thank you. Yes, batch cooking is definitely a good idea. I think things haven’t been helped by this change in working coinciding exactly with my sister and niece arriving from overseas to stay. Not seen her in 5 years and naturally she is in holiday mode so wants to eat well etc. I will try to catch up with myself over the weekend as she is elsewhere for a couple of days.

Dashel · 06/10/2022 08:45

Good morning everyone,

I am super chirpy this morning as I lost a whole pound on the scales and am 10st 11 exactly 🥳

I know I shouldn’t let the scales get to me so much either positively or negatively.

I was groggy this morning so no pre work exercise, just a short walk, so need a lunch time walk and something after work too.

@Stepcount when we have friends over for food, I try to do a healthy main that they can add extras onto. Like a chilli with a jacket so they can have bigger potatoes and add cheese, coleslaw, butter etc or curry and they can have a naan and samosas, bhajis etc and I just have popadoms.

It is really hard being sociable and eating, especially if it involves take out or eating out

Dashel · 07/10/2022 08:05

Hi,

I only managed 14k steps yesterday, a quick 10 min core dumbell workout on FitOn and a 20 min yoga with Adrienne session. Foodwise I was ok and this morning I’m at 10st 10.5 so that’s 2lb down in 2 days 🤯

The high winds meant that I didn’t sleep very well so will need to be careful today as I’m more prone to snacking when tired. I did another rpm session with DH early this morning, just 20 mins as we are getting back into it, but we are going to start doing 25/30 minutes next time. It is too bad to be going out for a walk.

I hope everyone has a great day

Stepcount · 07/10/2022 10:36

Happy Friday everyone. My weight is staying resolutely the same. I’ve been so distracted by the new job and my sister staying that I haven’t paid much heed to what I am eating- certainly not calorie wise. I would say that I have not over eaten which is a positive but definitely haven’t been able to drink enough water. I’m hoping with a bit of downtime over the weekend I can eat in a more mindful way and in a better routine.
Good luck everyone with Sunday check in.
