Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

I there's room for one more I'd be really happy to join. I joined SW 4 weeks ago, determined to lose weight this summer instead of putting it on, and have so far lost 6.5lb. I got the membership free from my gp scheme.

I'm following the SW plan, shutting the kitchen down in the evening at 8 (horrific heartburn if I eat too late before bed really helps), avoiding any snacks at all and sticking to 2 meals in the day between noon and 8pm. I always take either yogurt and fruit or a salad and fruit to work for lunch.

Being back in my classroom makes 10k steps a day easy, and I do 2 dance based fitness classes weekly. And I've taken up crossword puzzles to avoid boredom eating.

I have a few tricky bits coming up - I see a friend for tea once a fortnight so will need to plan carefully for that. She isn't a dessert person though, which helps (cos I really am). And a few nights away with DD on uni trips, eating at hotels.

Biggest incentive is that gorgeous and skinny DD's 18th birthday gift is my taking her abroad at the end of Oct, so I initially want to lose as much as possible by then.

I've put a photo of myself at 11stone (from about ten years ago) and a size 12 as my wallpaper on my phone!

Dashel · 05/09/2022 06:38

Hi @DrMadelineMaxwell sounds like you have a plan!

I hope that everyone had a good weekend.

I weighed in at 10st 12 this morning 😭 my muscles were so sore we didn’t go swimming and I missed the strength workout on Sunday but we had spent a couple of hours shovelling gravel about and that was pretty tough. I have been keeping up with my 15k steps and my idea of cheating on my diet is a jacobs cracker or an extra kiwi or a packet of 62 cal popcorn so I am assuming it’s water retention from DOMs.

I have two weeks before I fly off on holiday and I was really hoping to be about 10st 7 then but it’s looking more unlikely.

I will keep going though.

Have a great week everyone!

TheBatwoman · 05/09/2022 07:47

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! Congratulations on the excellent progress everyone - really inspiring to see all your hard work paying off both on and off the scales.

My weigh-in update for this week is -2 lbs please @OhFatty - also really glad to hear you’re feeling better now too.

FlowersFlowersEverywhere · 05/09/2022 07:54

Hello I’d like to join if I may. I list 10lbs at the start of the year and then have struggled to get back on track (but haven’t put the 10lbs back on, which is good). I’m currently 176lbs, and want to reach 147lbs, so 29lbs to lose, and as there are only 15 weeks to Christmas 😱😡 that’s 2lbs a week. Hard core, but doable. I have fibromyalgia so have to manage diet and energy levels carefully, so can’t drop calories too low either.

MuddyBoo · 05/09/2022 07:58

Greetings everyone at the start of a new week!

I feel like my positivity is high today but my plans are non-existent which is not good. Need to think about what I'm going to eat and how/when I am going to exercise.

I think this is the downside of not following a diet or scheme, having a bit more mental work to do. But I know I would bristle and rebel and cheat if someone else was making the rules.

OK, should probably go look in the fridge!

Julesni77 · 05/09/2022 09:03

@TheBatwoman well done! Great loss!

@OhFatty so glad to hear your in better form - I too have so much to lose and it seems such a long road to travel but better trying than not doing anything at all!
I am dreading the scales this week as I had quite a boozy weekend! on eth wagon today and seeing if I can claw anything back back Thursday!

Welcome @FlowersFlowersEverywhere and @DrMadelineMaxwell you have found a lovely supportive group here!

recklessgran · 05/09/2022 10:17

Morning all. It's the start of another week and I've made sure my fridge is crammed with healthy food and I have a vague meal plan. Tonight I have a house full - 8 for dinner I think. I'm cooking a roast chicken dinner for everyone. I shall just have chicken and veg and will give the Yorkshires and roast potatoes a swerve. I'll be roasting two chickens for this using the breasts for today and the rest is being made into curry for tomorrow. DH, DGS and our doc DD [who is staying for the week and likes to police ensure that we are eating healthily!] can have that with rice and I'll just have a small portion with lots of veg. Lunch today is egg mayo salad or soup for me depending on what I fancy. If I need a snack at all I'll have a bag of salty popcorn [44cals].
Hope everyone has a good week and welcome to all new joiners - we're a friendly group so hope you'll all feel happy and supported here.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 06/09/2022 06:44

Morning all, sorry for being AWOL, hectic last week of the holidays! Wasn’t great with my eating but have lost 0.25kg (0.5lb) this week so 1kg (2.2lb) since joining. Now DS is back at school I can properly concentrate on it so hoping for a bigger loss this week.

etchysketchy88 · 06/09/2022 06:49

I'll join. I've got more than 40lbs to lose but 40lbs by xmas would be great.

So far I've lost 1st 4lbs just need to keep up the momentum. I've been cutting calories, so no fancy diet. Used to eat massive plate full at dinner and started by halving the amount of food on that.

TheBatwoman · 06/09/2022 07:04

Thank you @Julesni77! You’re right, this is a very supportive group and I’ve really appreciated having the support and motivation done everyone, thank you.

christmas2022 · 06/09/2022 07:08

@recklessgran You are ON IT!

christmas2022 · 06/09/2022 07:09

@SnowyMouse @Snowymouse

Well done on your loss this week, did you feel like you had a better week?

MuddyBoo · 06/09/2022 07:40

Welcome @etchysketchy88 and hello again to @DreamingofItaly2023

I was sure I was going to see a gain on the scales this morning because yesterday DD suddenly asked that we light the fire pit and we ended up making s'mores. Chocolate digestives and marshmallows was not my food plan but I couldn't resist.

Anyway the scales gremlins have been kind and bizarrely I'm a pound down this morning.

Not going to take any more chances today though. Soup for lunch and a small portion of cottage pie tonight for tea.

Readytostartagain · 06/09/2022 08:06

Weighed in yesterday at 11 2.5 so a gain of 3lbs but been off it it for a while. Would like to lose about 35lbs but would be delighted to be 10 stone for Christmas. Just need to focus. Well done to all those with a kiss this week 🎉

Readytostartagain · 06/09/2022 08:12

Loss not kiss 😳

Dashel · 06/09/2022 08:33

Good morning everyone!

I lost my extra pound this morning so 10st 11 again 😥 really hoping the scale drops soon and reflects my efforts. Still I need to keep going.

I was in the car a lot yesterday so only managed 10k steps but I did shoulder day with Joe and DH last night and today it’s leg day and should be smashing the step count as did 4.5k before I left for work. My arms are still pretty sore but I view DOMs as good so pain 🥳

keep going everyone - we have this!

Thefroglover · 06/09/2022 09:53

I'm working in an office today. First time in a very long time. Someone else from my company is also here. I've not seen her for ages. Omg she has lost a lot of weight and looks great. She looks like I want to do. I feel totally shit about myself.

Dashel · 06/09/2022 11:11

@Thefroglover I am sure you will get there. It just takes time and consistency, things which I know from experience are really hard to do. Please don’t feel bad about yourself. Just keep going and if you need to and can then maybe tweak your plan slightly. We will all get there if we just keep focused- tunnel vision!

I have a feeling I will be summoned down to head office before Christmas for a team get together and I want to look fab for that. So I do understand how you feel. I want to be proud of my legs and show them off instead of trying to hide all of myself away.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 06/09/2022 18:16

Hi all, back to the office with a bang. None of my work trousers fit me so that was a shock, 2 long walks so far this week and a weights workout tonight. In other shocking news my company have just announced they're holding a ball in December, which means I need a killer dress, and for that killer dress to fit....
I thought covid had killed off the ball for good, the last time I went I was a size 8 😞that's not going to happen but with good habits I'd like to be a generous 10. Nothing like a ball invitation to make you step away from the cake in the staffroom...

MuddyBoo · 07/09/2022 07:35

@Fiftysixthnamechange wow a ball is very good motivation! Especially when it gets nearer to Christmas and the yummy food is everywhere.

I have a family wedding on the 22nd December. I'd really love to be a size 10 for that too....though a 12 might be more realistic. Still it's good to have an event to aim for

Stepcount · 07/09/2022 08:46

So 4 weeks in and I have lost a smidgen under 9lbs. I should be delighted, of course I am in some ways, but I doubt that the next. 9 will come off at the same rate. I have also begun to feel a bit deprived and bored (as predicted) The funny thing is I haven’t had a day where I thought ‘ oh to hell with this’ and had a proper blow out. Instead I am probably consuming more calories than I realise and picking at things- late afternoon and mid evening being prime time. Not through hunger usually. My older DD will be back at uni soon and younger one already at college so I can hopefully get a better routine and meal plan. Older DD likes the social aspect of eating together and same meal which doesn’t always work for me. I also find that unless I really drop calories down there is limited loss. I have a lot to loss and I’m pretty sure much of this early loss is just water weight.
I think logging all food and drink should help me keep track and a re stocking of suitable food is needed.
Well done to everyone sticking with it 👍

recklessgran · 07/09/2022 10:35

Ah @Stepcount congratulations, that is a brilliant loss and you should take it and be proud! I'm just trying to keep away from the carbs as I know that really is the only way for me to have any meaningful loss but it is tough. I'm not even counting calories yet but I'll need to soon. I'm just trying to stay on the low carb wagon. Can you actually plan a couple of snacks into your day? I have sugar free jellies with a few raspberries sunk in permanantly in the fridge for when I fancy something sweet. That keeps me away from biscuits/chocolate etc although I don't generally have a sweet tooth.
