Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

Morning all, I don't want to jinx myself but the low carbing is going well so far and showing a drop on the scales. I know it's only water weight but even so it feels encouraging. At long last I'm managing to avoid the carb crack which is bread/pasta/potatoes/biscuits where I'm concerned.
I've got my Canaries holiday on 27th November as an incentive for slimming down. I need to lose 3 stone really but if I manage 2 by then I'll be happy. It's always a struggle due to my underactive thyroid. I'm on medication for that but GP refuses to increase them despite me only just scraping into the lowest parameter on my bloods. No excuses though - love reading how everyone's doing. We can do this!

Stepcount · 01/09/2022 10:33

Well done with low carbing @recklessgran . I’m generally trying to keep pasta, bread etc to a minimum even if I have other calorie blips. I’ve had a few days again of food challenges, being in situations where I was presented with party food and yesterday on a trip to London with my DDs to see a show. On these occasions is when I feel a bit confronted with having to make choices which feel like I am depriving myself. This is the result of years of seeing food as a treat or part of the enjoyment in a day. I had some of what I fancied but I tried not to overindulge. I’m more or less maintaining this week so I will now put in extra effort to shift at least 1lb by Sunday weigh in. Overall in September I would like to lose around 7lbs. Good luck everyone.

recklessgran · 01/09/2022 11:09

@Stepcount I'm also a "food reward system" person so well done on keeping yourself under control. It's so hard but so worth it. I'm hoping to get into the 13's by the end of the month. I'm also hoping to NEVER see the 14's again but that's something for much later down the road. Hope you're O.K.@OhFatty .

christmas2022 · 01/09/2022 14:04

Just checking in on @OhFatty

How is your week going so far?

MuddyBoo · 02/09/2022 08:18

Morning all. Yesterday was a so-so day. DD has a cold and wanted cuddles and lots of sitting down activities. I did manage a little 20 minute zumba work out at the end of the day.

I'd really like to lose 1 more pound for Sunday's Weigh in. Going to have to resist 'but its the weekend!' reasoning in my head and avoid indulgences today and tomorrow.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 02/09/2022 10:52

I hope you're OK @OhFatty
Just did a 30 min body coach workout, managed 4 this week. Eating has been good but I'm putting off weighing because if I don't like the number on the scales I know I'll be disheartened. This always sends me on a spiral of being horrible to myself, limiting my calories and inevitably bingeing and then having to start all over again...
So my plan is to have no plan, keep eating well, exercising 5 times a week, drinking water and being patient and kind to myself.

OhFatty · 02/09/2022 11:13

Oh my god I’m so sorry. I’m here, I’m fine, got over my massive strop on Tuesday. I’m self employed and it’s been very quiet since Easter but has suddenly got crazily busy, so I’ve been working flat out, evening too wishing I’d didn’t the quiet time preparing (every year I say I will, and every year I don’t).

I’ve been sticking to my diet, and exercising too every day. Not much movement in the scales, but I can definitely feel it in my clothes!

Once I’ve posted my orders tonight I’ll read through everyone’s posts. I really am sorry.

@OhFatty it must be some work going through all these posts - can i just say that I am so grateful for this thread and report through biggest loss to date - 2lbs! I am delighted and the only difference this week has been completed 111k steps this week when my normal falls in and around the 90k mark

@Fiftysixthnamechange that sounds like a very sensible plan and the number on the scales is by far the least important indicator after how you feel in yourself and if clothes are getting looser x

recklessgran · 02/09/2022 21:56

Great to see you're O.K. @OhFatty - we've been a bit worried about you. I'm so glad you're alright and just work busy.
I've been really good since Monday but fell off the wagon again today good and proper. Out for girly lunch - cheese salad sandwich and black coffee. Chips from Burger King later and pork pie with Branston this evening. SO unhealthy reckless! Have given myself a talking too. I'm off to do a car boot in the morning as we've been clearing out our garage full of junk. I have made a flask of black coffee for this outing. I have a small piece of cheese and six pecan nuts for sustenance. No hotdogs will be consumed.

MuddyBoo · 03/09/2022 07:53

Glad you're OK @OhFatty , no need to be sorry at all.

Yesterday was a bit of an inactive day for me. Spent most of the day working on a craft project that I started at Christmas and then left undone for all these months. Just want to get it finished now so spent hours on that. Then in the evening we had a movie night, watching Harry Potter and then the Rings of Power.

I feel like I spent all day sitting and need to get moving again today. Going to meet up with some friends this morning and go on a good walk.

Hope everybody has good Saturday plans!

Dashel · 03/09/2022 08:39

I have started the Body Coach 21 days of strength challenge. It’s free on his YouTube channel if anyone else is interested. It’s day 3 today and will be doing that later on.

I weighed in yesterday at 10st 10.1 and today at 10st 11.4, we had some oven chips last night with salt and a processed vegan chicken Kyiv and whilst it wasn’t too bad relatively speaking it would have been a lot more carb and salt heavy and Friday night is our weekly cheat type meal but probably around 850 calories so not hugely bad. But it’s something to look forward too.

I also did 15.5 steps and the leg day strength workout. I am sore but need to keep going with the back day today and some DIY. I’m was debating spinning this morning but I think with the DIY and back day and potentially swimming it would be too much and my supportive DH might complain, maybe tomorrow 🫣

I am glad you are ok @OhFatty it’s so easy to give up on yet another diet and come back 6 months later with more weight to loose. I have a holiday in two weeks and I need to relax a bit whilst I’m there but get straight back on it when I’m back and it will be hard. My plan is too stick some bikini pictures inside the cupboards just before we leave and a healthy Tesco shop ordered for delivery.

@MuddyBoo what did you think of the LOTR series? I hope you get your project finished and enjoy your walk and avoid all the rain.

@recklessgran i hope your carboot goes well and you get back on the wagon.

Right I need to give myself a kick up the arse and get up and get going. Not going to have a productive bed if I stay in bed drinking DH bought up by DH.

Have a great weekend and remember the long term plan. 2024 will be here in four months and we can be starting the New Year feeling fabulous or feeling like we do every year (if you are me) going I need to loose weight and get in shape and feeling bad about ourselves.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 03/09/2022 10:06

I hope its not 2024 in 4 months @Dashel or ive just lost a year of my life 😁
Went out for dinner last night, kept it relatively healthy. Today I am wearing jeans I've not managed to get on at all this year so something is working even if the scales don't want to tell me. Bitch.
I'm experimenting with baked oats this morning, never made them before so not really sure what to expect, they're in the oven so I'll report back...

recklessgran · 03/09/2022 12:50

I'm just back from the car boot 80 quid up and a load of junk down. I stuck to plan - not too difficult as I was tied to my car and tables since I went on my own, so that was a plus. @Dashel I guess that means I'm back on the wagon! I like your thoughts about not arriving at the New Year thinking we need to sort ourselves out because we've already done /are doing it. That's a very good thought actually and I'm going to keep that in my head in the hope that it keeps me on the straight and narrow when the going gets tough so thank you for that.
I have a mantra - every day when I get out of bed I stand in front of the mirror and say "Reckless, every day in every way you're getting thinner and thinner!" I just have to keep going until one day I'll be able to stop saying it!
Then I do a little pirouette, well not so little - in fact I must look hilarious come to think of it since I'm a bit of a fairy elephant. Right, now you all know my little guilty pleasures - doing car boots and pirouetting in front of the mirror!! Have a great weekend all.

Dashel · 03/09/2022 13:53

@Fiftysixthnamechange doh! But think of where we will all be if we keep going to 2024 🤩I might have a 6 pack by then 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@recklessgran i think we have to believe it will be worth it in the end. I am glad your carboot went well. If I did a pirouette I would fall over and probably hit my head on something! Do you do barre classes?

We dragged ourselves off for a 30 minute walk and just had lunch. Going to do the chest day strength workout after that has gone down and then I think it’s a soak in the bath and chilling for the rest of the day. I’m at 12k steps and DH wants to go swimming tomorrow instead.

recklessgran · 03/09/2022 14:55

Sadly, no @Dashel - nothing could be further from the truth the only bar[re] classes you're likely to see me at are of the pub variety!! Your post made me laugh out loud so now both DH and I are in stitches since I have about as much elegance [and energy] as a slug. Bless you - thank you so much - you've actually made my day!

Dashel · 03/09/2022 15:33

@recklessgran i have no Co ordination or grace, I struggle to tell my left from right and I regularly fall over my own feet but I regularly do the Les Mills Shabam classes at home if I need to get my steps up. I often end up getting lost and making it up as I’m so confused but I have fun. You don’t need to be perfect at something to give it a go in private.

recklessgran · 04/09/2022 07:44

Good Morning @OhFatty it's weigh day and another 1.5lbs off for me this morning. I'm 14st 6.5lbs down from a start weight of 14st 10lbs . Now that I seem to have got my snacking habit under control my next mini goal is to be in the 13's by the end of the month.

MuddyBoo · 04/09/2022 10:27

@OhFatty official Weigh in for me today is 10st11.

That's a 3lb drop for me from last week and means that altogether I've lost 5lbs since I started on the 22nd August.

@Dashel I'm really enjoying the Rings of Power so far. Might sound a but odd but I like how likeable and nice so many of the characters are. I had a bit of anti-hero fatigue so this show is a bit of a cleanser!

christmas2022 · 04/09/2022 11:45

@OhFatty

166lb for me this week. Think that's half a pound off.

Hope you're seen a better week and feeling good.

christmas2022 · 04/09/2022 11:47

@MuddyBoo well done on your 3lbs, that's a decent loss. What have been your successes this week?

WutheringShites86 · 04/09/2022 12:36

Hi everyone, haven't weighed today but did on Friday and was 15st 1lb so that's another pound off for me for the record @OhFatty.

I'm at a local festival this weekend so I've loosened the reins a bit but not gone completely mad and I'm doing loads of walking so hoping I don't do too much damage!

SnowyMouse · 04/09/2022 13:41

I did my weekly weigh in today. Today I weighed in at 11 stone 13, which is 1 lb loss this week (4 September), 3.75 lbs loss overall.

@OhFatty , I will log my loss for this week as - 0.5lb.
I have had a few off piste moments but I am trying not to be super strict as that doesn’t work for me. All still going in the right direction. I am going to log my weight for reference on Tuesday as that will be 4weeks since I started.
well done everyone 👍

OhFatty · 04/09/2022 15:18

I’m a bit early today. We’re decorating (husbands decorating, I’m trying desperately to be useful!!) so I thought I’d do it while we had a cup of tea.

Some great losses, and lots of willpower this week. Is everyone now pirouetting as part of their morning routine? I haven’t tried yet!

Again I’m sorry for my toddler tantrum, it just seemed so unfair, and I didn’t want anyone to think I’ve cheated. I honestly haven’t. I get to have quite a lot of calories because of how big I am, and I do have carbs, which might be a problem. I’m just going to see how it goes. I wish I could resist weighing myself every week, but I can’t.

This week my little Etsy shop has been busy which is brilliant after a quiet summer. I had a big order from America last night which has made me very happy. I can’t eat when my hands are occupied with sewing!

Good luck next week everyone, and welcome @clpsmum. I wonder if we’ll get lots of new members, as I think schools go back this week.
