Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

Good luck with the ball @Fiftysixthnamechange
And good luck with the wedding @MuddyBoo
9lb is great @Stepcount !
Good luck with sticking with the low carbs @recklessgran

OhFatty · 07/09/2022 11:26

Everyone’s doing so well it’s lovely to see. I lost 1lb this week which I was a bit meh about, but I’m just happy it’s a loss. I know I’ve stuck to my plan, and I’m trying really hard with exercise.

@Dashel i’m in awe at your 15000 steps a day. Even 10,000. I know we’re all supposed to do that, but I don’t. I’m getting closer though!

@MuddyBoo I feel the same about rules which is why I choose to calorie count. I’ve done slimming world before, and the healthy A and B etc, and restrictions, when other things like pasta and muller lights weren’t restricted, wasn’t for me. I think they may have changed the rules since then though.

Im jealous of @Fiftysixthnamechange going to a ball. I’m imagining Cinderella only more glamorous. I bet you’ll look amazing

@recklessgran You're SO organised, it’s fantastic

Welcome all the new people. I’ll add you onto the list on Sunday 😀

Thanks @recklessgran I am pleased but I also see the numbers still on the scales and I feel frustrated that I let myself get back to anywhere near this weight again. I like the sugar free jellies too so will definitely re stock on those today. I have been on a sliding scale of overweight my whole life so unpicking and conquering certain eating habits is not going to happen overnight. I think I may have some traits of being a compulsive eater because often when I am overeating I am not remotely hungry and food is just a source of comfort. I eat it because I can not because I need it. Pretty pleased though that 4 weeks in I am still committed to giving it my best shot. Next interim target means I need to lose 10lbs in the next 6 and a bit weeks.

Stepcount · 07/09/2022 11:36

Aww thanks everyone for your kind messages and support. My computer was playing up and whilst I was waiting to post your comments hadn't appeared. Just over 15 weeks until Christmas - we can do it !!

Buglin · 07/09/2022 11:46

I hope it's not too late to join in? I'd like to lose a little over a stone by Christmas 💝 I am 5'7" and weigh 10 stone 12 right now. My goal weight is 9 stone 7. I'm trying to keep calories at 1000 on most days, go on a walk every day, and only drink on the weekend 😊

SnowyMouse · 07/09/2022 13:21

Welcome @Buglin !

I've hit a milestone today, I've lost 50 lbs and am just into the overweight category rather than obese!

Buglin · 07/09/2022 14:21

Thank you @SnowyMouse 😄 Wow congratulations on your incredible achievement!! How did you do it?

Thanks, calorie counting since June 2021. Just need to keep going at it!

WutheringShites86 · 07/09/2022 14:40

That's amazing @SnowyMouse, huge congratulations! 👏

I ended up partaking in all sorts of Mexican food at the end of the festival I was at last weekend so probably blew it at the last minute but I had a fab time and it was totally delicious so I can't be too mad about it.

On a positive note, I've been able to write that off as a one off indulgence instead of telling myself I've ruined everything so might as well sack the diet off completely - as I've done in the past. So on we go!

SnowyMouse · 07/09/2022 15:05

Thanks! Mexican food sounds delicious, I don't blame you! Well done on picking yourself up and carrying on.

Julesni77 · 07/09/2022 15:28

@SnowyMouse that's truly inspirational and what an amazing result!

SnowyMouse · 07/09/2022 15:37

Thanks, still got some to go (approx 2 stone + ). My next goal is hitting 25% of my weight loss.

Lysianthus · 07/09/2022 16:35

May I please join? You all seem so lovely and supportive and I've just had my (fat) arse handed to me on a plate by my GP so am a bit low.
The weight has crept on over the years and although I eat generally healthily, my main failing is wine, which always comes with "snacks to mop up the wine" and I work longish hours so often buy "on the run' rubbish to keep me going but it's not great. My portion sizes need reviewing too.
I play tennis 2x a week, and swim, and walk between 6 and 10k steps.
I've been wearing size 16 for a long time but had not been on the scales for over 15 years. I'm 5'4.
She forced me on (told me I could just not look!) because she could obviously see I was overweight and low and behold I weigh 13s 7lb. Which makes me obese.
I'm going to join the NHS weight loss scheme but a handhold here would be good. I could also do with some advice please on a set of scales to buy! Thank you all.

christmas2022 · 07/09/2022 16:40

@Lysianthus

Welcome aboard.

What is the NHS scheme? Keep us updated with your progress and sounds like you're already quite active so that's a good start.

Something like this might be good as you can track all your data on the app and you'll be able to see your body fat reduce as you succeed with us on here.

Lysianthus · 07/09/2022 17:05

@christmas2022 thank you for the link, that looks great. The GP recommended the weight loss workshop which is run by our local authority. It's basically a 12 week course, half being motivational talks and half an exercise class. Sounds very like the Rosemary Conley classes I went to back in the late 90s! Used to love the combination of weigh in plus workout and it's a shame she's gone.

clpsmum · 07/09/2022 17:53

First weigh in today and 9lbs down I'm delighted

I'm doing 1000 kcal, I know it's low but I'm a wheelchair user. Thanks for your support. Good luck with your weigh in, when it comes.

Wow! That's fab.

Dashel · 08/09/2022 07:46

Good morning everyone!

@clpsmum wow amazing weigh in! And @SnowyMouse 50lb is fantastic I hope you rewarding yourself with something as that is a real achievement!

Hi @Lysianthus I have read in a few places that 15k is the sweet spot for steps burning calories but not making you hungry. I try and I’m for that but sometimes I’m a bit short. I have a Fitbit and Fitbit scales which transmit to the app (Tesco have Fitbit on their Clubcard rewards scheme). I have given up booze apart from when I’m abroad. DH is on the alcohol free gin and slimline tonic and the occasional alcohol free beer. Wine is so good with nibbles but we can go through a bottle and a huge pack of crisps without trying.

@WutheringShites86 i think the ability to have a day off or a week off on holiday and get back on it is a sign of growth. I’m trying to make this into a lifestyle change so I don’t stop and like it back on and I can’t just give up and go back to eating junk food for 6 months because I went out for a meal.

I weighed in this morning at 10st 10lb. DH was away last night so have not had anyone to drag me for a walk this morning. I did do a HIIT workout yesterday that was the toughest one yet and I felt a bit sick because of it tbh.

I had my protein pancakes for dinner (on plan) and will probably make a curry for dinner. I will have to make up my lack of steps at lunchtime and after work and carry on with the Joe Wicks strength challenge that DH and I are doing together.

I hope that everyone has a great day. It’s been really motivating to see so many posts!

MuddyBoo · 08/09/2022 07:59

Well done @SnowyMouse that's amazing!

Well done too @clpsmum !

And warm welcome to @Lysianthus and @Buglin . I've found this group so helpful, I hope you do too.

Yesterday I got a good walk in and avoided snacks and felt good for it. This morning I've dropped 2lbs meaning I've now lost 8lbs in total since the 17th August.

I'm not sure if I can see a difference in the mirror yet but I hope I do soon!

Julesni77 · 08/09/2022 10:27

Weigh in for me today another 1LB - slow and steady wins the race I keep saying!

So from starting weight of 18.9 to 18.3 today @OhFatty for the Sunday tally

Welcome @Lysianthus your starting weight would be less than my goal weight and I am similar height - I am shocked your doctor gave you so much gip!

FlowersFlowersEverywhere · 08/09/2022 17:36

Well, despite having cold, rubbish sleep and a husband that put a box of After Eights in the fridge door 😡 this week is going ok so far. Don’t weigh in again until Tuesday, but I’m pleased with how I’m sticking to my eating plan (new planning it all out makes it so much more likely I actually stick to the diet). 14.5 weeks to go, I keep telling myself it’s not a long time to be really strict and I could lose all of the weight I want to in that time
