Diet for Christmas challenge

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

I hope that everyone has had a great bank holiday weekend. Next Bank Holiday will be Christmas Day 😳

@OhFatty I think I’m aiming for sub 10st by Christmas so about a stone to loose.

I was 10st 12 this morning so a bit of water weight I hope. I have been very good this weekend no alcohol and restrained eating. I did a dumbbells HIIT workout yesterday which left me sore today. I went for a walk today and am at 13.5k steps.

You've had some decent losses so far, so hope you're ok with a maintain?

Anything getting in the way of a great last week(ish) in August?

I've actually put a meal plan together this week for breakfast lunch and dinner. I will swap the days around depending on what I fancy but all the food to be eaten is there in black and white.

Wishing you and all of us a great week 😊

OhFatty · 29/08/2022 23:03

Not ok @christmas2022 - had a bit of a cry this morning to be honest. I know I’ve stuck to my calories, and I’ve exercised more than ever last week. I’m incredibly big and unfit, so I know what I’m doing is nothing compared to most people, but for me it’s a lot. I’m doing a bit more every week. I really feel I should have lost weight, but I do retain fluid in my feet and ankles, so I’m hoping it’s that?

I found out last week that my best friend from school who emigrated to Australia when we were 18 (33 years ago) is coming back for Christmas. She won’t be staying anywhere near me but wants to come round on the 18th. I’m hideous. She’s going to be horrified. I need to lose at least 2.5 stone by then - I’ll still be enormous, but it would help.

@OhFatty

If you've been moving a lot more then your muscles may be sore. Sore muscles hold onto water in order to repair them, so could be water weight. Keep going you are doing the right thing and have made great progress. Keep drinking water and everything will flush through.

Good luck for next week.

MuddyBoo · 30/08/2022 07:24

@OhFatty it's really frustrating when effort doesn't show on the scales, but it will pay off in time. Keep on going and we're all cheering you on.

I'm feeling very full and bloated after last night's takeaway. 😩 Tasted good yesterday, though!

Going to try and be focused now for the rest of the week. Might take DD swimming as a good activity for both of us.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 30/08/2022 07:45

Morning all, sorry for being AWOL! Have been staying with grandparents who are very much feeders so was expecting to have gained this week. However have managed a tiny loss of 50g, not enough to record but am thrilled not to have gained. DS has asked to go on a walk this morning so back on it with both food and exercise :)

I’m so sorry to hear that you are upset fatty but please don’t be disheartened. It may not be showing on the scales yet but your body will be benefiting from your hard work and at some point it will start to show, as you say it may very well be fluid.

WutheringShites86 · 30/08/2022 08:23

@OhFatty please try to be as kind and supportive to yourself as you have been to all of us. I can't possibly believe you're hideous because the loveliness that comes through on your posts must shine 10x brighter in real life ❤

It will come off, just keep going.

TheBatwoman · 30/08/2022 08:53

Please try to be as kind to yourself as you have to all of us@OhFatty. I’m not sure I can put it quite as eloquently as @WutheringShites86 has, but I wholeheartedly agree.

You have made tremendous progress since the start of the Christmas weight loss club and I’m sure your hard work will continue to pay off in the longer term. You are a great person doing great things, please don’t forget that ❤

That's brilliant well done. Can I join? My target is 50lbs by Christmas. My weigh in day is a Wednesday

Dashel · 30/08/2022 10:08

@OhFatty i know it’s hard. I have been walking so much, doing weights, HIIT classes and yoga and no booze or treats (well a 60 cal packet of popcorn when desperate) and the scale isn’t doing what I want. I ache and I want wine and a burger and chips instead of healthy choices.

Have you thought about Epsom salts in a foot bath or bath? They are supposed to help and I can’t see them hurting so maybe worth a try? I’m sure you are not hideous by any definition and I wish I could give you a hug.

Keep going as you have plenty of time to loose more weight and it sounds like you are making good progress with your fitness levels and that has to be really positive! Sometimes you need to look at the non scale victories and be happy with those. Maybe increasing your walking distances or planking for longing or whatever?

I have seen my flexibility increase and my pigeon pose is much better. It might not be what I was aiming for , but I’m taking it as a win. I’m also doing my regular walk more quickly.

Your friend will NOT be horrified & please don't talk about yourself like that, you'd never say that to anyone else!
You sound like you're doing amazingly well. You could have possibly lost cm/inches even though the scales look the same. Also I'd highly recommend not weighing yourself every week. I found weighing myself too much put me off when I barely saw a shift.
I weigh myself every 2 even 3 weeks.
Also if you've had pasta/rice/noodles type things the day before weigh in you'll be carrying water so it's not accurate.
You sound like you are sticking to your plan so I would not be put off by this.
Personally myself this week I've not stuck to my plan! 🙈 I've been doing it so long (since march) & reached my pre baby weight so I definitely had some treats etc this week.
But I'm back on it today & I've also cut out sugar completely, so hopefully I can stick to that.
I just want to give myself that final push so I can reach my ideal weight, then I can relax, although I predict I'll be calorie counting forever now because I want to maintain, but I can live with that & am used to it now.

Hello all,
I've been on and off the wagon so much over the past week it's made me dizzy 😵 negatives: too much to drink, a filthy katsu curry from wagamamma, family sized bag of buttons at the cinema.
Positives: managed a long walk, a hiit class and a weights workout, having lovely friends to stay and enjoying life. The biggest positive is this is where I would normally think 'fuck it' but I'm not feeling like that at all, I think its finally clicked that it's going to take time, but that time will pass regardless so I might as well try and nake some progress. I keep thinking how much happier I'll be heading into the christmas season if I'm healthier and slimmer than I am currently.
This thread is also helping so much so thank you @OhFatty for starting it! Blink and it will be Christmas ladies xxx

recklessgran · 30/08/2022 19:07

Well, I caved at the Bank holiday lunch and had cheese, tomato and red onion panini with chips BUT I did resist the cake. I'll have to take that as a neutral then. Never mind, I've behaved impeccably today and am now low carbing since that worked for me before much better than calorie counting and eating carbs within the calorie allowance. We shall see what happens on the scales this week. Hugs for you @OhFatty - we're all gunning for you. x

MuddyBoo · 31/08/2022 08:27

Welcome @clpsmum !

@recklessgran well done for the cake resistance! We're going to a museum today where the cafe sells particularly good ice cream. I'm going to try very hard to just stick to the soup!

Really hope these messages are lifting you up @OhFatty . Also your friend is travelling a long way and seeing you is clearly a priority, they're going to be delighted to see you, and I bet you'll have a great time together.

Dashel · 31/08/2022 09:34

Good morning everyone,

I lost half a pound this morning but still 10st 11 😭 it is frustrating as I have been really good with my food, doing my steps and a HIIT session yesterday morning.

I have no patience whatsoever so I find it hard that getting the results I want takes time.

My exercise session went well so I should be pleased with that and I can see that my belly is going so I can’t complain that I’m not seeing results. I just wish the scales reflected my hard work.

DH is away tonight and this is the time I’m at my weakest. On the body coach plan I can have pancakes made with protein powder for a meal and ice cream made from frozen banana and yoghurt for a snack so I will be having that for dinner.

Julesni77 · 31/08/2022 13:41

THanks so much @LaTangerina

@Dashel its a patience game unless you have iron will small consistent changes are better than losing fast only to regain - I am not even saying I am "on a diet" I am wanting to build muscle lose a little fat and hopefully change shape - easy hey!! (if only :) )

Readytostartagain · 31/08/2022 21:29

Can I rejoin? Had a terrible August due to personal stuff- both good and bad. So I’ve put weight on. I’ll weigh in tomorrow.

MuddyBoo · 01/09/2022 08:01

Welcome back @Readytostartagain ! Here's to September being a good month for you!

@Dashel I'm sure the scales will change soon for you. They always seem to take awhile to catch up.

Spent yesterday wandering around a museum and park with DD and friends. I resisted the ice cream in the cafe but did have a crunchie later on. I just couldn't stop thinking about it, it was really what I fancied. But that was my only snack all day and I still avoided Coke. Turns out I enjoy an elderflower preserve just as much!

Think today is more a stay at home day so will have to keep busy or I will start snacking out of boredom

Dashel · 01/09/2022 08:18

Thanks to @MuddyBoo @Julesni77 I know I need to have patience and keep going. It’s just hard when things ache and you just want to stay in bed rather than do exercise or go for a power walk. I am trying to build muscle and permanently make changes and make exercise a joy and a regular thing. I know it makes me happier and I know getting older it will bring all sorts of benefits.

with DH away yesterday, I had my protein pancakes and faux ice cream for dinner (on plan) I got to 15.5k steps and with the HIIT class as well so super happy with that.

The scales did budge slightly this morning to 10st 10.5lb so happier with that and I did an early morning walk so a good start to the day.

@MuddyBoo sounds like a lovely day yesterday. Stay strong and away from the snacks today.

Hi @Readytostartagain sorry you had a bad August , hopefully September will be better!

Readytostartagain · 01/09/2022 08:23

Thanks @MuddyBoo and @Dashel feeling positive for the new month. September always feels like a good time for a new start. Stuck in the office all day but will try and get a walk in at lunchtime
