Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

And I meant at first I couldn't have anything chocolatey!

TheBatwoman · 23/08/2022 20:03

Well done @Stepcount- sounds like you’re making great progress!

MuddyBoo · 24/08/2022 07:34

Weighed myself this morning and I've ducked under the 11st mark. I'm so pleased. I'm saving official Weigh in for Sunday but this is a good mid-week encouragement.

I have been through my wardrobe and picked out 5 items that don't fit right now but I would love to wear again. There's a swishy black dress that I'd love to wear this Christmas. One more motivation to stick with it.

TheBatwoman · 24/08/2022 08:33

Well done @MuddyBoo - that’s wonderful! Always feels great to hit those milestones. Nice one 😊

DreamingofItaly2023 · 24/08/2022 08:34

Well done muddy!

TheBatwoman · 24/08/2022 20:12

How’s everyone doing today? Hope you’re all having a positive week so far.

christmas2022 · 24/08/2022 20:30

Well done @MuddyBoo

Isn't it great to get into that next stone bracket. I reckon I could be where you are in a couple of weeks and it has been YEARS since I've seen an 11 on the scale.

It is strange how something has clicked this time and I'm not sure what it was. This thread has definitely helped, but I'm very on track, starting to exercise again and not feeling like I'm missing out or even wanting to snack on crap.

Long May it continue!

TheBatwoman · 24/08/2022 20:37

Sounds really positive - that’s great to hear @christmas2022!

Dashel · 25/08/2022 07:16

I know I’m a bit late but can I join in too?

I have a dream holiday in May 23 and I want to be looking my best for then and if I haven’t made a good start by Christmas I’m getting a personal trainer or doing something a bit more drastic like shakes or boot camp. One of my main reasons for booking this is that I have always said I want to go to there and wear bikinis and post a photo online of me in a bikini on the beach. So this is a huge incentive to motivate me.

Im 41 10st 11 and five foot 3. I’m also off on holiday in a couple of weeks. I haven’t been under 10st 8 for decades and have spent the vast majority of the last 20 ish years between 10st 10 and 11st 3.

Im trying to hit about 15k steps a day and incorporate lots of exercise and a high protein, pretty clean vegan diet. I’m following Joe Wicks plan (kind of) and I have lost 3 pounds over the last week so the easy water weight is gone. I have doms this morning from HIIT and walking yesterday. I’m going to aim to do my steps and maybe some yoga today. I had been quite lazy for a few months and was probably doing 5k steps a day so the increase in exercise has come as a surprise to by body and I’m aching a bit especially my feet!

I have two spin bikes and a Les mills membership and weights so I am hoping when my body has gotten a bit more used to things I will start with that as well and drag DH into it a long with me.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 25/08/2022 08:45

Morning all, I hope you're all having a good week! Finally seen a loss this morning of 3 pounds which takes me to 11st 4 pounds. Next target is to get under 11 st.
Hopefully all that exercise is starting to pay off. 2 weights workouts this week. Having friends to stay this weekend but hoping to stay on track. @OhFatty for your weekly roundup!

Fiftysixthnamechange · 25/08/2022 08:47

@MuddyBoo I've done the same! I don't even want to buy a new wardrobe when I've lost weight, I just want to fit into the things I already have!

MuddyBoo · 25/08/2022 09:32

Well done @Fiftysixthnamechange ! Hope you have a great weekend with friends.

And welcome @Dashel ! I think your weight story is similar to mine. I'm 5ft3 too and weight keeps creeping up to 11st3. I think the closer I can get to 9st the better I will feel.

Had a bit of a slip yesterday. Went out with DD(6) and DM and had a big cooked breakfast for brunch. Was going to split it with DD but DM had same idea and she gave DD half of her breakfast before I had the chance.

Tried to eat less for dinner but still was annoyed. Anyway, still got my twenty minutes of exercise in.

Today I've done a quick walk for about 40 minutes and I'm doing some prep work for decorating - lots and lots of sanding! 🙄

Hope you all have a lovely day!

TheBatwoman · 25/08/2022 11:58

Well done @Fiftysixthnamechange - that’s great!

Well after a few good days, it’s been one of those days here today. The twins have spent most of the morning (and last night) screaming. The joys of teething!

I’m absolutely shattered and just trying not to give in to any temptations or give up today. Any tips for summoning emergency willpower anyone?!

Hope you’re all having a better day than we are here.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 25/08/2022 12:23

Oh no @TheBatwoman I don't miss those days! If I'm feeling seriously lacking in motivation I go on Pinterest or YouTube and search for 'weightloss motivation' I sounds weird but after looking at a few pics or videos it really refocuses my mind and stops me eating the contents of the pantry!

WutheringShites86 · 25/08/2022 16:27

Hi All, super busy at work this week so I haven't really had time for the thread but I see there have been loads if losses, well done everyone!

@TheBatwoman I think you just have to cut yourself some slack on those days otherwise you run the risk of having an almighty blowout when a bit of chocolate or a glass of wine might have covered it, if you catch my drift

LaTangerina · 25/08/2022 17:13

Thefroglover · 25/08/2022 18:10

I'm in. I have 40lb to lose for Xmas. I'm currently the heaviest I've ever been and I'm disgusted with myself. It's making me depressed. I'm off work this weekend and it all stops - the scoffing, drinking and shovelling as much as I can in. Plan is to do walking/running/swimming/hooping with healthy eating. No carbs, significantly reduced sugar & wine. I don't care if its cold or wet when I go out exercising. I HAVE to lose this weight.
Together we can do this

MuddyBoo · 26/08/2022 07:22

Welcome @Thefroglover !

Bad day yesterday, like cake-for-breakfast, bad. And I'm annoyed with myself for it. But today is a new day, so going to try and stay focused. If I still show a loss on Sunday, any loss, I'll be happy.

Stepcount · 26/08/2022 07:41

Morning everyone. Well done on the determination being shown and efforts paying off.
I’m doing okay but there have been a few disruptions to eating patterns and encouragement to participate in meals and events that have made dieting difficult. I haven’t succumbed to too much but enough that I am in another mini plateau. And as predicted evenings are when I am most likely to feel deprived or in need of a reward for a good day. I’m purposefully not calorie counting or excluding anything specific as that is counterproductive for me. I guess these are long-standing habits- snacking in the evening- that need to be addressed over time and new habits formed. I was also doing well with drinking lots of water but it has been more difficult now that it’s cooler. And I have to stay home if I am drinking lots because it means I am weeing for Britain 😬

christmas2022 · 26/08/2022 08:00

Morning everyone

@Stepcount it's great that you're able to identify your areas for improvement and your triggers. Are you able to maybe swap the usual things you'd eat in the evening for a mini buffet of low calorie foods? Veg sticks, mini sweet treats rather than full size, pink n white marshmallows, the low calorie yogurts like muller light with fruit - perhaps others can share what they tend to go for if the want to pick during the evening?

I like the options hot chocolate as they are only 39 calories and they do various flavours.

Sounds like you're making the right choices where you can so keep going.

The weekends are my trigger where my good efforts fall apart. Any tips on not going too far off track welcome!!

Dashel · 26/08/2022 09:36

Thank you @MuddyBoo we all have bad days but dust yourself down and carry on. Better to slip up for one day and move on than 6 months and give up.

@Thefroglover welcome and I’m glad I’m not the only newbie on this thread. Don’t be disgusted with yourself though just resolve to do better.

I am happy with my food intake yesterday and managed 12.5k steps and due to DOMs. And achyness I didn’t do HIIT either yesterday or today but I did a yoga with Adrienne class for aching legs which is better than nothing!

I managed a hilly 35 min walk this morning before work and will go out at lunchtime for another walk. I lost a pound this morning which I’m happy with.

I have talked with DH about getting back on the spin bikes and he seems keen so once my legs stop killing me that’s something to look forward to.

I am also wanting to find ways of rewarding my body for putting up with this so need to look into that more. I have a foam roller that I should use more.

TheBatwoman · 26/08/2022 11:26

Thanks so much for the encouragement @Fiftysixthnamechange and @WutheringShites86 - appreciate the support. I managed to find the sunshine in a grey day thanks to it and had a better day than expected - foodwise anyway!

Following on from the Pinterest suggestion, I found this picture on there, which I found helpful. Didn’t know if anyone else would find it helpful, especially the smaller suggestions like a new playlist or bubble bath (or similar R&R option). Historically, when I did competitive sport, food was always a reward, so found this helpful in trying to think of new ways to break that cycle.

For those having rough days, please try to stay positive and remember to be kind to yourselves. We can’t be perfect all the time, but remember you got this!

Diet for Christmas challenge
MuddyBoo · 27/08/2022 08:54

That's a great list @TheBatwoman. I like the idea of a bubble bath reward. That would be a good substitute for my 2 glasses of wine reward.

I'm in a bit of a plateau too. Keep bouncing back to 11st.

But I've managed 20 min of exercise everyday, though some of it has been gentle. And I've gone from drinking coke everyday to only having it once this week. So some mini victories there.

TheBatwoman · 27/08/2022 09:37

Sounds positive @MuddyBoo. All the mini victories soon add up as well.

I like the idea of a bubble bath reward too. I may try that after my next run, especially as the twins will be in bed. It’s been ages since I’ve managed a bubble bath!

I also really love my coffee, so not on the list, but I did think something like some nice coffee as a treat may work. Just little things to help keep you motivated can make a big difference I think.
