Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

@OhFatty

170.6lb for today - sorry forgot to weigh yesterday.

May be a marginal loss.

TheBatwoman · 22/08/2022 08:33

Weigh in update - for recording please @OhFatty

Weighed in at 181lbs this morning, so a loss of 3lbs.

That’s a total of 9lbs down from my starting weight of 190lbs since we started this thread, so thank you all for the support and encouragement! Here’s hoping for a positive week for everyone. Please never forget that even a small win is still a win (and not all wins come on the scales).

hedgehog91 · 22/08/2022 09:08

@OhFatty my weekly weigh in this morning is a 0.4lb loss. Ecstatic with that as after a bad week I was just hoping for a maintain!

Slowly but surely…

Well done @TheBatwoman and @DreamingofItaly2023 on your great losses!

I really grateful to you all for joining me. When I first posted I thought it was too early. Who’s thinking about Christmas in the height of summer?

I know it sounds stupid but I was really disheartened by only losing 1lb last week. I’ve been trying so hard. If it’s the same tomorrow I need to rethink my diet. I’m allowing myself 1500 calories a day. Maybe that’s too many? I used a TDEE calculator.

I’m so nervous about tomorrow. Have a good week everyone

Yes I'll join you, thank you @ohfatty !
Don't be disheartened at losing a pound in a week, it's still a half bag for sugar & it's the average weight loss anyway suggested on these apps like MyFitnessPal etc.
I've lost 4 pounds in the last 4 weeks as well. I don't weigh myself every week though I leave it until the second week.
I haven't tried the TDEE calculator, you could input your information into MyFitnessPal just to see if there's any difference. They recommended for me I be on 1200 a day, I am short though (5ft 1) so that might be why.

tortoishellclub · 22/08/2022 09:22

Right girls (and boys if any) it's Monday again! Let's get that weight loss mindset in place and do our thing. Good luck everyone, it's another new week to make a change to those scales whether it's big or small ..... sending you all love xxx

Fiftysixthnamechange · 22/08/2022 09:32

A weekend of excess for me, I darent weigh! Still exercising most days though and back on it today with a Caroline Girvan workout. 18 weeks to go and I DO NOT still want to be this weight by Christmas day.

OhFatty · 22/08/2022 09:40

4lb loss for me! I’m happy with that after a rubbish two weeks. I haven’t done anything different so I think the really hot weather, and also time of the month had a big effect.

A massive well done to everyone.

4lb is fantastic! Well done!!!

christmas2022 · 22/08/2022 09:48

That's great @OhFatty

What system are you following? Was you the poster that was thinking about reducing your calories?

OhFatty · 22/08/2022 09:58

Thank you!

I was thinking about it @christmas2022 because the last two weeks have been rubbish. 1500 calories is more than I’ve ever let myself have before, and it does worry me, but I’m going to stick to it for now.

We can do this!!!

What lovely healthy foods are you planning for today?

I'll probably go for a fibre breakfast (shreddies maybe)

Lunch thinking something filling like bacon, egg, mushroom and tomato

Pasta dinner with some meat and loads of salad

Want to make time for a gym session today too - sometimes I'm so hungry by dinner time I end up eating dinner rather than go gym. I should maybe have a banana or something to keep me going.

LaTangerina · 23/08/2022 09:00

@yearofthefat I've had a look back over my entries on MyFitnessPal & can give you some weights if that helps!
Initially I did seem to lose weight a lot faster & now it seems to have slowed down somewhat.
As for blips, no, but I've tried to lose this weight in the past & have failed (say after I went on holiday & over ate that would be my downfall). This time I've been absolutely determined, because I have to be getting my steps in with the dog now I was focused on fixing my eating too.
Actually now I say that I had a quarter of a kebab & a few chips two nights ago so went 300ish over my calories that day 😂🙈
When I first started I was eating right up to my limit & eating back what I walked off, so it took me a month or so of tweaking to find out what low calorie things I could eat to fill me & not be over (so having as little as possible calories for breakfast/lunch so I'd more left for dinner). Basically porridge, cheese & tomato & salad (no dressing) toastie (low cal bread/cheese/no butter).
I think if you have a blip it's important to try focus yourself to getting back on track and don't let it derail you into thinking you can't do it, because you absolutely can!
I think most days I've eaten my 1200 calories, maybe a small few when its been 1100 (for example when I have those risotto tubs for dinner bc my family are having pasta, they're only 300 and something, I can find you the brand if you're interested). Also I did start out just eating pasta as normal but I've gradually cut pasta out, although I still have rice.
I personally wouldn't recommend going down too low in your calories because you'll just end up hungry & there's no fun in starving yourself. I have never tried the fasting people talk about on here so I'm just trying to lose weight the old fashioned way.
Here are my dates/weights:
27 Feb 22: 12st 7
14 March 22: 12st 0
17 March 22: 11st 10
31 March 22: 11st 7
12 April 22: 11st 2
21 April 22: 10st 12
5 May 22: 10st 5
18 May 22: 10st 2
2nd June 22: 9st 12
17 June 22: 9st 8
22 July 22: 9st 3
3 August 22: 8st 11
17 August: 8st 9

TheBatwoman · 23/08/2022 09:20

Thanks for the really helpful information @LaTangerina

As for healthy foods @christmas2022, I’m really looking forward to my lunchtime omelette. I usually make them with lots of fresh veggies - may add some turkey today. Find them really filling and rarely want to snack in the afternoon, so it really works for me. I’ve pretty much cut snacking out completely and I’m largely crediting having more filling lunches. Sometimes I also have a salad topped with chicken or turkey breast strips, which is nice.

I’ve found cooking dinner for the twins too had actually helped, as I’m making a conscious effort to plan healthy meals for all of us. Planning our meals has really helped, as we rarely deviate now. We’ve been having more veggie and fish dishes than just meat too, which is helping bring down the calorie count a bit.

Just hoping the twins play ball for me to keep cooking as per the plan this week. Baby Batman is teething and very clingy at the moment, thankfully baby Batgirl is a bit more independent!

MuddyBoo · 23/08/2022 10:03

Morning all!

Well done @OhFatty on that fantastic loss!

I got up and out of the house before 7 this morning and squeezed in an hour walk around the fields. Felt really good to get up and get moving although now I do feel a bit sleepy and would love to chill out for a bit...but there is a six year old to entertain! So currently playing princesses with her.

Hope you all have a good week!

tortoishellclub · 23/08/2022 10:12

Good morning gang!!! Hope everyone is having a great week so far. I nearly caved and had a big piece of cake last night but now that I didn't I actually feel great, it's almost spurred me on a little. I find once I start eating rubbish it's harder to stop so for me I'm best cutting out the snacks and eating bigger meals to carry me through. Cannot wait to get the kids to school next week to enable myself to get more walks in ! Anyways happy Tuesday to you all xx

Stepcount · 23/08/2022 17:27

I’ve had a few food challenges over the weekend and yesterday with party food and alcohol around plus an all you can eat buffet lunch yesterday ! But I mainly went for the salad and meat options and some dessert. I didn’t really eat again apart from a small slice of birthday cake- not mine. And miraculously I am 1 and a half lbs down from Sunday’s weigh in. I think I am just eating a lot less than I was previously and reducing carbs but not obsessively. I do have to persevere and stick to best options when I can though because seeing progress is my motivator in this. I would like to see another lb go this week and keep on track with targets.

You're very welcome, I'm still kind of in disbelief that I've actually managed to do it this time because it's been 10 years coming.
I think if the weight comes off you slowly & surely then you're unlikely to gain it back.
For me snacking what a huge one, I literally had to retrain myself not to snack. And at first I could have anything chocolatey because things like that are definitely my triggers & make me want more.
I do think it helps weighing yourself less personally, I'm someone who gets put off if they see nothing or a tiny amount gone. I actually only weighed myself when I thought I noticed a difference in myself in the mirror.
Best of luck to everyone & agreed this is a lovely encouraging thread!
