Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@SanFranBear sounds like you needed a blow out to let off some steam and de-stress with your colleagues. Some times you just have to do what you have to do. Well done on giving your time to be a school governor. It can be a thank less task!

Morning all! I woke up to a message from my FitBit, telling me that I hadn’t had any “active minutes” this week and that it was basically time to get my backside moving. Well that’s me told 😳

I felt pretty smug though when I realised that I’ve never seen that message before. I didn’t even know it policed exercise levels like that. I guess that until this week it’s been happy enough with my exercise levels not to mention it 😂

Glad to hear things are cooling down where you are @TheRealHousewife . That must be such a relief!

As someone with lots of experience with going off plan, I can assure you that one day or even a week of throwing caution to the wind won’t make much difference weight wise @SanFranBear . The scales will try to convince you that it does, but any extra weight usually disappears super quickly. Have a lovely birthday tomorrow 🥳

@PinkStarAtNight I can* *imagine the lack of appealing ready meals being a challenge. As @TheRealHousewife often tells us, having the time and resources to cook from scratch is a real luxury, but might batch cooking be an option for you? I’m not talking about dedicating most of your weekend to prepping food, but for example if I make soup, a curry, or a pasta sauce I usually double the quantities and freeze half in individual portions. That way I always have an easy, healthy meal ready.

TheRealHousewife · 21/07/2022 10:42

@CrimsonAlligator 😂 told off by your FitBit hahahaha ... get moving your ass girl!

Adversity · 21/07/2022 11:11

I weighed myself twice, the scales were 9st 12 and a 1/4 next was 9st 13 and 1/2!

I did have wet hair 2nd t8me but it’s not exactly a horses mane.

Due to the heat I have hardly exercised just one 1.5 hour stroll.

ImALittlePea · 21/07/2022 12:31

Well done to all the WoWers yesterday!

Echo @TheRealHousewife, sometimes you just need to blow off steam @SanFranBear. There is zero wrong with doing so, so don't beat yourself up about it. And happy birthday for this weekend!

Ooh I'm so glad I don't have a Fitbit that will tell me off @CrimsonAlligator 😂

Yesterday was our 9th wedding anniversary, but celebrations on hold until tomorrow. I helped a friend with some flat clearance and she treated me to a coffee and (the most delicious) cheese scone after, so that constituted my lunch. Dinner was baked potato, sausages and beans. Took 7yo to the circus last night, he and his cousins had ice creams, biscuits etc but I refrained, and had a Greek yog with berries and a decaf tea when we got in.

Today:
Lunch - cup-a-soup & veggies 👀
Dinner - lasagne leftover from last week (ooh must get it out of the freezer) with a nice big green salad

xogossipgirlxo · 21/07/2022 13:13

"@xogossipgirlxo i had to read your post twice as I thought I’d read SLEEPING IN THE FRIDGE 🤣"

@TheRealHousewife 😂He did not do it, but apparently my husband was putting his head to the freezer to cool down. I should not be surprised. When he had covid and lost his taste, he LICKED THE SOAP BAR to make sure it's true. I married a weird guy, but as they say "marry someone who makes you laugh" 😂

Oooh, I failed so miserably yesterday. I had cheeky day off due to my car being in service, and I overindulged in chocolates. I am back on track today. Did weights lifting training yesterday and my legs and butt hurt so much.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 21/07/2022 13:24

@CrimsonAlligator - that's good of your FitBit but I'd be tempted to chuck it away if it did that!

So far today have had:

Dinner yday was: veggie and tofu rice stir fry but about palm sized portion of rice.

B: Special K and blueberries with skimmed milk
L: 2 slices sunflower rye bread with cottage cheese, pepper, cucumber crudites, cherry tomatoes, lettuce slices
Snacks: 2 x Laughing Cow cheese triangles and 2 x apricots
No idea what I'm cooking for dinner later.

I did see on another thread that eggs were better than Special K for weight loss. Anyone care to enlighten me?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 21/07/2022 13:25

Exercise so far has been approx 20 minutes walking to and from express bus to work. I think it's less walking than train but cheaper by bus. And the train can be a nightmare!

fallfallfall · 21/07/2022 14:40

@GonnaGetGoingReturns protein is better than low calorie carb. SpecialK probably doesn’t even have much fiber.
protein during weight loss will help preserve your muscles and will keep you feeling full longer.

SanFranBear · 21/07/2022 16:03

Thanks for your kind words everyone - and you're all right! Need to let rip on occasion and it's always the more spontaneous, "I'll just stay for one" evenings which are the best. It was really lovely and I did switch from the mango cider to vodka partway through the evening which I'm sure is the healthier choice 😉

And thank you especially RealHousewife - school governance isn't for everyone as it can be quite tedious at times but I really enjoy it. Helps I work with some really lovely people - and the school is pretty special too.

Love that your FitBit felt compelled to stage an intervention, CrimsonAlligator... I must admit, I used to zone out the MOVE vibrations from mine and don't even wear it anymore!

fallfall is right about the old eggs - they'll just keep you feeling fuller for longer and are packed with other, naturally occurring vitamins rather than the more processed type in cereal. Sometimes there's nothing better than a nice bowl of cereal - I'm quite obsessed with the Mini Fruit & Nut Weetabix.. lush!

Congrats on your anniversary, LittlePea... 9th is pottery, isn't it? Or wood? I'm not sure - didn't make it anywhere near as long in my marriage but my MIL bought me a teatowel with all the anniversary gifts on for when we hit two years (cotten)... we were done 6 months later 😆

ImALittlePea · 21/07/2022 16:51

@SanFranBear I think 9th is pottery or copper, we don't do presents though. Save the money for meals out instead!

ITUnurse · 21/07/2022 17:57

Can I join? I was on the May and June threads under a previous name - changed due to my causing controversy on other threads (will be on best behaviour).

starting weight 13st4, current weight 10st8. Got at least another stone to lose but no rush. I’m 5’3.

CrimsonAlligator · 21/07/2022 20:36

I decided to listen to my FitBit and just finished the first session of my new 10k rowing schedule. 120 active minutes. That should shut up my FitBit for a while!

Welcome back to the thread @ITUnurse . I’m intrigued by the trouble you say you caused on a different thread…was it a diet thread, or something in the more argumentative parts of MN?

Congrats on your anniversary @ImALittlePea . Saving the money for a nice meal sounds like a great plan. Enjoy the celebrations tomorrow 🥰

Daffyaboutdaffs · 21/07/2022 21:57

Thanks for the encouragement @TheRealHousewife First 2 days have gone well. Sticking to slimming world techniques. Today I had scrambled eggs tomatoes and bacon for breakfast. I made a big pot of soup with lentils and lots of veggies for lunch and snacks over next couple of days. Had fish with roasted vegetables for dinner. No bread. A good long walk and some yoga. Don’t feel hungry which is good.

ITUnurse · 21/07/2022 22:17

@CrimsonAlligator

My controversy was in an AIBU 🤣

fallfallfall · 22/07/2022 02:10

just a few words for a change….lavender lemon jelly. I made a small batch, so pretty and such a lovely light flavor.

SanFranBear · 22/07/2022 06:51

Just a quick one from me, too... I'm chuffed that despite my blowout midweek, I'm down half a kilo:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 76.4kg
July GW: 74.7kg

I am just half a pound over 12 stone which means I might get into the 11's before the month is out.. genuinely shocked! Might be hard as got my birthday and then camping which, even though I don't eat loads, always involves some weight gain - too many bbqs, buns and beer!

But for today, I shall do a happy dance before heading out on a hefty 20k hike - not sure how that'll leave me for partying later but I'm very much looking forward to it!

ImALittlePea · 22/07/2022 07:20

Well done @SanFranBear!

I'm a bit surprised by my weigh in too, I'm just under 1lb down. I seem to be convincing myself every week that I'm veering too far off course, where I'm obviously not. Need to work on the mindset here I think (or, is it a self preservation thing? Telling myself I'm not on plan enough so I don't veer further? Answers on a post card!)

I've got 4oz to lose then I'll be 1 1/2 stone down this year. Would love to achieve that by the end of the month!

Happy Friday all ❤️

Benjispruce4 · 22/07/2022 08:29

Well done on the surprise losses. I have’s weighed this week and I know I’m at target but I was carrying on to get get a couple of pounds below as target wasn’t ambitious. Had last day of term yesterday and a buffet lunch so whereas I normal have a very light lunch , I had a bit of everything and feel so bloated.I didn’t eat much last night, just picked at seafood sticks(not what they used to be) and mange tout. It’s made me realise how much better I feel when I eat healthy food, not cocktail sausages and quiche.Today my body is a temple 🙏

HouseofHolbein · 22/07/2022 08:50

Morning! Weighed in this morning at 1lb down which is good 😊 going in the right direction. Sticking to my simple goals for this month 😊 I feel better for it!

Need to get ready for work now

BlueSilver23 · 22/07/2022 09:09

Weighed in yesterday against my better judgement and hadn’t lost anything despite suffering on about 800 cals all week, so promptly fell off the wagon and spent all day eating chocolate cake, toast and an entire bar of chocolate. I should just stick to my plan of not weighing I think! Trying to get back on track for today but binging has awoken my hunger again and I’m starving this morning. Going to try and keep busy instead.

well done to all those who lost this week!

TheRealHousewife · 22/07/2022 09:32

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@Adversity I find it strange I can hop on and off several times in a row and get a different reading every time.

Happy 9th Wedding Anniversary @ImALittlePea Have a great time tonight! Well done on your loss 👍👏

@xogossipgirlxo I too married someone who makes me laugh every day, it’s good for the soul!

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I second what @fallfallfall says about eggs/protein/muscle/satiated etc. Eggs are right little power houses of goodness. A lot of bang for your calorie.

You’re welcome @SanFranBear 👍You sound like a very hard working person who is very generous with her time. I’d like to think it’s appreciated! Fabulous news on your loss, I’m sure having a good time with friends, all the laughing etc helps burn off any excess 😬👍👏

@ITUnurse Welcome to the threads … again😬. Are you the lady with the horse? I’ve probably got you mixed up as they are a few ladies who disappear. Well done on your loss to date! You clearly know what works for you.

@CrimsonAlligator Well done! That’s an awesome workout 👏 Fitbit admonishment works 😬

@Daffyaboutdaffs The soup you made sounds great (as does the rest of your menu) Veggies, complex carbs, fibre and protein. That will help keep you satiated as will protein sources in general. If you keep satiated and hydrated it generally keeps the snack dragon away 🐉

@fallfallfall Im intrigued about your smoothly recipe 🙏 I sometimes create smoothies too and I’m always shocked how calorific they can be. I’m thinking of more regularly swapping a meal out for a smoothie as I need to get my collagen up again and the powder I use is better in a smoothie. I generally use plant milk, maca powder, caoco powder, ground flaxseeds, bit of honey, Greek yoghurt, frozen berries or banana, dates. I’m trying to find a reasonably priced unsweetened protein powder to make it a complete ‘meal of balanced macros’. Just seen you’ve posted your recipe 🙏

@Benjispruce4 Don’t be too hard on yourself, it was the last day of term and your body wanted to celebrate 🎉 Buffets can be so tempting, especially if you are really hungry and stuff goes in before you realise you’re full. Pleased to see you’ve set your ‘Body is a Temple’ for todays mantra! Setting intentions is so important to getting back on track.

Hi @HouseofHolbein Another 1lb off is a steady loss, that’s great! Enjoy your day at work 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi stir fry with red pepper, navo cavalo, carrot & butter beans.
Meal 2 - Home Made Chicken Curry with cauli rice. Greek yoghurt and walnuts.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - 20 Minute walk ✅
Session 2 - ? Feel a bit stiff might be another walk.

Enjoy the cooler weather! Hope the rain/thunder isn’t too bad where you are!

Cross posted.

Hi @BlueSilver23 You shouldn’t be ‘suffering’ on any way of eating. That will make you miserable and as you discovered yesterday, fall totally of the wagon. Are you able to share a typical days menu? I eat between 1000 - 1200 calories split over 2 meals and feel satiated and I very much enjoy what I eat. You need protein, good fats, complex carbs and minimal sugars/processed foods to get the right macros and nutrients and to feel full. Let us know your thoughts.
