Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Oh my what a day! My car read 45c after school and air conditioning not working! Absolutely melted me driving home. Got straight in a cool shower which was bliss.
B- berries and yoghurt
L- lots of cold salad with olives, apple
D- Will just pick. This oven ain’t going on!

bambi1132 · 19/07/2022 16:52

Hi all just checking in!

Calorie counting has gone out the window because of this heat. We're in a red zone and I hate it! I've been living off ice lollies and snacks. Chippy for tea tonight, not the best thing to be eating but I'm not cooking in this weather. I can't wait for it to cool down a little. DCs finish school tomorrow so I should be able to get back on track, get them out to the park, start walking the poor dog again and get some exercise in. DH has suggested I join a gym, he knows I'm stuck in a rut and even though we have weights and an exercise bike at home I struggle to remove myself from mum duty. I used to go to a gym before DD was born and loved going, I was in a much better place mentally. I'm just nervous about joining a gym, everyone seems to film themselves now and it's really off putting.
Anyway, hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday. Stay cool!

TheRealHousewife · 19/07/2022 17:13

Crumbs @Benjispruce4 i thought it was hot where I am at 40! All those homes up in smoke in Wennington 😢 Unprecedented weather.

Hi @bambi1132 I agree it far to hot to be prepping and cooking food 🥵

fallfallfall · 19/07/2022 21:37

those temps are terrible i hope it doesn't last much longer for you.
all's well over here.
b: cottage cheese with raspberries (some wheat bran and almonds weighed and sprinkled on top)
l: i'm still really enjoying the bell peppers with cream cheese and ham! added some carrot and celery on the side.
d: burgers are planned, i may not have one, definitely will have some cesar salad. i make my own dressing and only trust the raw egg concept for 2 days. equally i won't be throwing it out since it was just made yesterday. long waffling story but no bun on that burger and a small salad on the side.

milkfromthesleepycow · 20/07/2022 06:29

WOW I've maintained which I'm actually quite shocked at as my diet has been terrible and it's been way to hot to do any exercise
I'm going to re-adjust my July goal to stay at this weight. I've got kids birthday parties this weekend then off camping week after. Between organising all that and the heat I don't think I've got headspace for anything else
I do feel awful and I'm pretty convinced it's my food that's doing it. I miss my protein and veg!!! Definitely a survival rather than success month here
Good luck for other WOWers and hope you all manage to keep cool 😎

Slightlystressedbride · 20/07/2022 07:35

2 lbs off for me this morning, pretty pleased with that!
SW 11st 8lb
CW 10st 7lb
GW 9st 7lb

If I can shift another 3lbs by the end of July I'll be delighted!

Well done on maintaining @milkfromthesleepycow

giatta · 20/07/2022 08:42

WoW
0.9kg down from last week, very pleased with it. We're off for hols and see family in the next three weeks, just hope to maintain and don't do much damage to my progress.
SW 83.3kg
CW 78.3kg

Slightlystressedbride · 20/07/2022 08:49

BTW everyone what does WoW stand for??

Is it Weigh on Wednesday?

Lizsmum · 20/07/2022 08:51

Reporting back after an excellent stay in France - croissants, cheese, bread, wine, beer ..... I stayed with a host family and the cooking was excellent. So I put on 4lbs in a week but having been back for 5 days its it's all gone away. And I think my French has improved too.

So I'm still 12 st 13 and my new mini target is to be 12st 7 by the 8th September, my 49th wedding anniversary.

TheRealHousewife · 20/07/2022 09:28

Good Morning Everyone

The fires have been devastating in the uk. Some homes lost only a mile from where we live. Luckily no loss to life. When the home owners got up yesterday little did they know they wouldn’t be sleeping in their own home last night 😢

@milkfromthesleepycow I’m the same, if I don’t get the fresh stuff in I feel rubbish too! Our bodies thrive on fresh unprocessed foods. Well done on maintaining 👍

@Slightlystressedbride Over a stone lost now! Well done … and keep doing what you’re doing as it seems to be working! 👍👏WOW = Weigh On Wednesday. But people can weight as often or as little as they are comfortable with.

@giatta Well done on your loss. 👍👏

@Lizsmum Sounds like you had a fabulous time. Well done on resetting yourself so quickly! 👍👏

WOW - .2lb up which I’m putting down to natural fluctuation.

Menu
Meal 1 - Massive salad with boiled eggs and sprouted lentils. Raspberries & Greek yoghurt.
Meal 2 - Salmon frittata with small salad of leaves, tomato & cucumber.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Yoga (done)
Session 2 - Hand weights & bands (10 mins)

Keep cool, keep safe and keep drinking fluids (touch of salt added) 💦👍

@SanFranBear so sorry to hear about your funeral.

@TheRealHousewife - thanks re weights and I do know we need to increase this more when we get older - bone density.

I forgot - Monday I had sunflower seed rye breed with cottage cheese and not Ryvita Crackerwheat. Will have the same for lunch today with cherry tomatoes, cucumber sticks and Minestrone Slim a Soup.

Last night I had Quiche Lorraine quarter, half boiled potato and salad.

Also had caramel frozen yogurt ice lolly.

This morning:

SW: 11stone 2/3 llbs (need electronic scales).

Breakfast: 30g Special K, blueberries 80g and skimmed milk and tea with skimmed milk.
Lunch: see above
Dinner: no idea yet maybe tofu stir fry.

@fallfallfall - I do like your breakfast/lunch options and might try similar. I get so sick of Special K and find it too hot for porridge in this weather!

No exercise for past 2 days apart from short walks as too hot but back on Team Body Project workout tonight.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 20/07/2022 09:42

@Lizsmum - my parents have a holiday home in France too and I also tend to partake of the local boulangerie/patisserie there too, plus the supermarkets have such lovely different things to eat!

PinkStarAtNight · 20/07/2022 10:54

Well done everyone on loses!

My WoW is I've lost just under 2lbs. When I first saw it I feel a bit disappointed, I think I was hoping for something more like 5 haha

But after thinking about it I've realised that's its the first time in the last year that I've weighed myself and actually lost - its always been either a gain or STM. So I suppose that shows that the diet I've been doing this last week does work.

I need to get back to eating vegetables today. Not sure what my meals will be but its much cooler now so I should be able to actually cook something.

Opened the back door today and cool air came in! Was so nice after three days of feeling like there is no air to breathe.

TheRealHousewife · 20/07/2022 11:14

Hi @PinkStarAtNight I can understand your impatience, nonetheless 2lbs is a good solid loss. If you managed that week on week it becomes substantial loss!

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Hopefully the weather will cool down soon so people can partake in more vigorous exercise. It’s madness to even attempt in this heat. PS I used to love quiche Lorraine, reminds me of a school dinner where we had it with chips and beans 😬 Total comfort food.

Good veggie meals could be stir fries or anything you can just add veggies to. There's a great Cranks bean stew with veggies (cauliflower, peppers, celery, onion, tomatoes, courgettes etc) which I do or my DM does and I take some home when I visit her. Or The Roasting Tin books have good veggie options.

Well done on your weight loss too! 👏

CrimsonAlligator · 20/07/2022 13:02

Afternoon all! I weighed myself this morning, but as I can’t remember how much I weighed at the start of the month I have no idea if that was a gain or a stay the same...😂 I guess it doesn’t really matter that much now that I’m almost back on plan?!

@PinkStarAtNight apologies if i have you confused with someone else, but are you the veggie who doesn’t like vegetables? If so, is it a texture or a taste thing?

I must confess that I am incredibly fussy about vegetables (and also veggie 🙃). For me the problem is texture (I can’t stand cooked vegetables), taste (I’m a supertaster, which is nowhere near as fun as it sounds) and intolerances (I can’t eat any of the vegetables I actually enjoy, like onions, leeks and potatoes. Life’s cruel!).

What works for me is:

Lots of raw vegetables (e.g. salads of lettuce, spinach cucumber, carrots, beetroot etc) with falafel or halloumi
Roasted vegetables, chopped finely and added to tomato sauces, couscous salads etc
Homemade soups blended with a stick blender. If I add enough spices, I can even get away with adding some vegetables I hate.
Stir fries as that doesn’t make veg too soggy
Curries/ stews. For me this only works for vegetables that don’t go soggy or have a strong taste, but it can be a good way to hide some of the flavour.

I don’t know if that helps all? I was surprised to find, when I started using NutraCheck, that by eating this way I average about 8-10 portions of fruit & veg a day. Most of that is vegetables. So there’s hope for even the most vegetable averse vegetarians 😁

Chatterbox89 · 20/07/2022 13:50

Hi all, checking in again. 1lb off for me this week so now at 9stone 4.5. Would love to reach 9 stone over the next few weeks.

Like others I find it too hot to be in the kitchen cooking much for dinner so think it will be a salad of some sort tonight and just a shop bought sandwich and apple for lunch as it’s an office today. Hope everyone is coping with the heat and well done on all the losses and maintenance achieved!

Daffyaboutdaffs · 20/07/2022 14:21

Hi just found this thread and would like to join please. Weighed myself today and am starting at 12st 5. Weigh on Wednesday sounds like a plan 😀 My goal weight for holiday at end of September is 11st 5 so I hope this is doable. I have previously done Slimming world and have all the books so will reread again tonight.

SanFranBear · 20/07/2022 15:43

Despite everything, still feels very warm and close today which for some reason makes me hungrier!

I gave blood this morning so had to ensure a decent breakfast and then they ply you with snacks and almost won't let you leave without having something (although they've brought in Biscoff biscuits so it was hardly torture!) Lunch was some crackers and then I've got mussels on the menu tonight once I've been for my WoW (I do a Walk on Wednesday, Slightlystressed, as I weigh on a Friday after I've completed my second low calorie day)

On that though, some great losses and STS's today... love your scientific measurements, CrimsonAlligator and 2lbs is a great result, Pink.

My WoW is going to incorporate some more house hunting in case there's some missing off Right Move which would be perfect for us. Slightly different area than last week but would still be ideal so we'll see.

Have a lovely evening, y'all!

PinkStarAtNight · 20/07/2022 18:23

@CrimsonAlligator I like broccoli and carrots so this is what I usually have with hot meals. I am ok with onions, peppers, tomatoes (as long as I can scrape out all the mushy inside bit and just eat the firm flesh bits), cucumber and lettuce so I make salads up from these. I can also eat peas and sweetcorn if they're with something, i.e peas in mash, or sweetcorn in a rice or jacket potato. But, that's about it.

The things I struggle with are things like lentils, chickpeas, beans, pulses, courgette, quinoa, seeds etc - and I find that these show up in almost every 'healthy' veggie ready meal! So that makes having a quick ready meal that's healthy quite hard. I would love to do Weightwatchers and keep it simple by just living off their ready meals and snacks for a few months - my mum did that a few years ago and lost quite a bit of weight. Once she was at her ideal weight she started eating other things and cooking again, but it made it a simple diet for her because all their ready meals and snacks are counted in the points. I can't do that though because they don't have a wide range of options for the vegetarian ready meals and the ones they do have contain all the above things I can't stand!

And yes, it's taste and texture that's the problem. I may try putting things in soups and sauces. I actually like falafel because the chickpeas are ground up.

Its just whole chickpeas. Hate it when the only veggie option in a restaurant is cauliflower and chickpea curry! Or lentil and courgette lasagne 😂

Benjispruce4 · 20/07/2022 21:57

Well done losers!
i forgot it was WOW day.

fallfallfall · 20/07/2022 23:47

hello everyone, 151 on the button. so down .98 of a lb.

d: i'm doing up two pork tenderloins in the bbq and i made tabouleh salad (this will obviously last a few days).

HouseofHolbein · 21/07/2022 08:59

Morning! I have lost about 0.5lb since Monday so pleased with that!

Took smallest to school for 5am today for a trip to London. Considered going for a run but ended up going back to bed 🤣🤣 still there now actually!

Work this afternoon so not sure what I'll be eating. It's going to be busy tho one of the drivers didn't turn up yesterday so his deliveries need to be sorted for today. Glad I'm not in this morning tbh.

TheRealHousewife · 21/07/2022 09:07

Good morning 😊

Thank heavens it's cooler today and I'm sure rain is in the air 👍

@fallfallfall That a fabulous result! Well done on your achievement!

Welcome to the thread @Daffyaboutdaffs ... you've got about 10 weeks so with healthy eating, consistency and due diligence you'll crush a stone off = average 1.4lbs per week. In all seriousness you'll need to get in the right head space to stick to whatever works for you. Good luck and keep posting.

Menu
Meal 1 - Salmon frittata
Meal 2 - Chicken salad. Greek yoghurt.

Exercise
Session 1 - 20 minute walk outside. Done ✅
Session 2 - Floor exercise - plank & stretches.

Well, yesterday went completely to pot! I'm a school governor and we've had a really turbulent couple of terms with some really tough decisions needing to be made so instead of heading out on my WoW yesterday, we all went to a local pub and I drank too much and ate an enormous curry.

Whilst a part of me is a bit cross with myself as I was on track for a decent loss this week, I think... the much larger part of me couldn't give two hoots. As I said, the governing has been so stressful and this week has been hard on a personal level so sod it.

It's my birthday tomorrow though so another night of drinking is on the cards but as we're going camping the next day for a few nights, I don't want to be too hungover! Doesn't bode well for weight loss but currently our only holiday this summer so won't worry too much.

So sensible food choices today and I'm going to head out for a good hike now - clear my ever so slightly stuffy head. I've got a lovely route planned - sod the house hunting 😀 Going to stock up in double the amount of water I would normally take as it still looks hot out there!
