Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Afternoon all. Hope you're coping in the hot weather. I wasn't posting for ages, have a lot to read.

xogossipgirlxo · 18/07/2022 15:02

Btw. I am having very crappy tea tonight, but my husband already set his mind on it. I will blend strawberries with greek yoghurt and will pour it over fusili 😆We used to eat such stuff as children. I wouldn't do it normally, but our fridge is empty. I ate some leftover hummus with cherry tomatoes and bell pepper for lunch, then ate two grapefruits. I didn't have any leafy greeens for salad, olives or even lemon do to the dressing. I planned healthier tea for tomorrow, probably some chicken breast with veggies.

Benjispruce4 · 18/07/2022 16:40

OMG school was hot, hot 🥵!
We closed after lunch but not all chn could be collected so we let them sit with their feet in water trays under the desks. 😁
Just home and showered and cooling off in front of the fan.
B- mashed half an avocado on seedy toast
L- chicken salad, apple
D- Will be a wrap or similar. I am not standing over hot food.

Benjispruce4 · 18/07/2022 16:43

@fallfallfall i kept my bedroom windows shut today and curtains and am pleased to report it is cooler than other rooms .😀

fallfallfall · 18/07/2022 18:50

starting the week 152.1, late last week i had two days in the low 151. fully expect to see 150 by the end of the week.
stay hydrated everyone :)
we're getting the 36-39C temps next week looks like a four day stretch but yes i've got a massive a/c unit should the window trick not suffice.

TheRealHousewife · 18/07/2022 20:19

Evening All 🥵

I hope you’re all managing to keep cool in the heat. Windows/curtains closed and it is cooler inside. Wet tea towels on dog to keep them cool and comfortable. I was up in the night, removed pjs, rinsed in cool water before putting them back on 🥶 worked a treat.

Food has been a bit ad-hoc, random and snacks as appetite totally gone in addition to not wanting to cook in this heat 😬. Hopefully will eat better tomorrow.

Setting my intentions to be more present on thread tomorrow 👍 Too hot and bothered to be able to concentrate to read today.

Good Morning All 😊

Hotting up here! We are being sensible, left drapes closed and it’s surprisingly cool. Got a couple of windows open in strategic places so it’s caused a through draft.

Menu
Meal 1 - Courgette, leek and potato soup. Warburton thin.
Meal 2 - Poached Salmon and humongous salad.
Tea, black coffee, WATER 💦

EXERCISE
Session 1 - Morning stretches (done 😊)
Session 2 - Hand weights (if not too hot)

Keep cool everyone and stay hydrated. Don’t forget about beloved pets. We have cooling mats already and we have cooling coats on order but in the interim cool wet wrung out tea towels (old ones) across their back is a good interim measure.

Soooo yesterday got a bit derailed, we ended up having McDonald's for dinner 🤦‍♀️ but I checked the calories and I think my meal was just shy of 800 calories. I ended up having a salad for lunch instead of the cup-a-soup, but didn't snack and drank a LOT of water and sparkling water with elderflower. Very refreshing.

So today's menu is now yesterday's menu 😂

Keep hydrated!

CrimsonAlligator · 19/07/2022 10:09

Morning all! I feel like we’re having a lucky escape from the weather here. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very hot outside, but indoors it doesn’t sound anywhere near as bad as what some of you are experiencing.

I’ve been relying heavily on my Ninja Foodie for cooking as it doesn’t create a lot of excess heat (compared to my oven) and I don’t need to supervise it, so can go and sit somewhere cooler while it does its thing. Apologies if that sounds like an advert, but does anyone else have one? What do you make in it? I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what it can do. Does that sound like an advert again?! 😂

Anyway, yesterday I made a big batch of roasted vegetables in it, which I then turned into a sauce to go with some pasta, goat’s cheese and salad. It was delicious. I made extra so will be having the same thing for dinner today, lunch will be falafel with hummus & salad and breakfast was yoghurt, banana & mixed seeds.

TheRealHousewife · 19/07/2022 10:47

@ImALittlePea The heat is such a disrupter! My eating yesterday was totally random. Even though I was drinking more water than normal I didn’t go to the loo that often so clearly dehydrated! When dehydrated the body tends to crave food as there isn’t enough fluid in the body to transport glucose around the body/brain. So if you’re feeling snacky glug the water first.

Set my intentions last night and so far so good. Main lining water 💦

@CrimsonAlligator we have a Ninja Grill that when the lids down it’s fully enclosed and doesn’t take long. The soup I’m having for lunch was taken out the freezer so only needs a gentle reheat. Every bit helps to keep the temps down. Your pasta, goats cheese and roasted veg sauce sounds utterly delicious!

You sound so positive, PinkStar - and upping to 800 for a couple of weeks and then having a bit higher sounds sensible to me... my daily limit is 1,400 and it seems high but some days it can be tricky to stick to. I'd rather have a bit more leeway and take a little longer to go downwards than constantly thinking about food, like on my lower calorie days!

Have you tried the Skinny bars, GonnaGetGoing? I just love the mint ones and they're about 75 calories but they have a huge selection and give me that chocolate fix! Although, nothing beats a Crunchie!!

And just for you, RealHousewife, a couple of Forest pics (spot the baby pony in the water!).. was just lush out there!

@SanFranBear - I have tried the Skinny Bars - not bad!

Sorry I've been incognito. Family were around all of the weekend. Needless to say diet went out of the window and I've now finished the Yorkie and Reeses White Chocolate Cups which were in the fridge.

I did do a 45 minute low impact Team Body Project on Sunday though and hopefully will be back on track with diet soon.

Yesterdays meals:

Breakfast: peanut butter and marmite on toast
Lunch: Ryvita crackerbread with plain cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes and cucumber crudites
snacks - 2 x apricots, 1 x peach, 1 bag hula hoops, Reeses chocolate cups, Yorkie bar
dinner - fishcake with cheese sauce, potatoes and broccoli/carrots

Walk - 15 minutes

Today:

Breakfast: special K 30g, blueberries, and skimmed milk

Hope everyone else is doing well will try to look at thread later on.

TheRealHousewife · 19/07/2022 11:15

@SanFranBear just spotted the baby pony in the water 😍. So utterly lovely 🥰

@GonnaGetGoingReturns dont worry about the bars, that’s done now. Set your intentions and you’ll be soon on track. This heat dissolves our resolve 😬

The heat really does dissolve our resolve!

Doesn't help I was with DM some of the weekend who foists food on you like it's going out of fashion and DB asked me to make my chocolate and banana loaf cake!

Actually @TheRealHousewife you are so right about food/water/dehydration - the one thing I have been doing in this heat is a sippy bottle of water/orange squash besides me at all times!

I ordered the lowest weight possible dumb bells today and found a skipping rope (fitness) in a box.

TheRealHousewife · 19/07/2022 12:29

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I find it so easy to fit a few sets in as I put them on the kitchen counter and do a few when waiting for kettle to boil etc.

Good idea! Mine literally are the lowest weight possible though!

xogossipgirlxo · 19/07/2022 12:31

I hope that your dogs are coping well in this temperature. It was 28 degrees in our living room and one of my cats was sleeping in the sun. Crazy 😬 Other one was arguing by the kitchen door that he wants to sit there. We keep kitchen shut, because it's the hottest room during first half of the day. My husband let him in and he was sleeping on the fridge. This isn't normal. We officially stopped worrying about them, because they seem to be doing very well.

xogossipgirlxo · 19/07/2022 12:33

Today on menu:

Breakfast: dates and cashew bar from lidl
Lunch: salad with mozzarella, medium banana and small apple
Tea: hubby requested same as yesterday, so blended strawberries over fusilli 😂I will push for something healthy tomorrow, when it's not this hot!

PinkStarAtNight · 19/07/2022 13:02

Hey everyone, hope you're coping ok in the heat!

It's so hot! I have set up my work station so that fan is facing me, I have a bowl of cold water to put my feet in, ice cold water in a glass topped up from water in fridge, cold flannel on my head - and I'm still hot haha

I've come out to the garden on my lunch break just to sit under the umbrella and it is hot hot hot! Definitely not the weather to stay out in for more than twenty mins.

Food yesterday was ok. I managed to stay under 1000 but still enjoyed my meals:
Breakfast - breakfast bar as always (I can't eat much in the morning without feeling sick)
Lunch - Vegetable rice
Dinner - Quorn escalope, herby potatoes and salad.
Lots of water

Today I'm craving a subway wrap for lunch. @TheRealHousewife the heat really does dissolve our resolve! But a vegan chicken subway wrap is only 311 cals so I'm thinking it could still fit into my plan. No idea what to do for dinner as I just don't feel like cooking.

Well to to all those managing to rustle up lovely meals in this heat, I might take some inspiration :)

xogossipgirlxo · 19/07/2022 13:55

@PinkStarAtNight I am also not a breakfast person. Little bars do the job for me during the week. I eat egg sandwich or porridge during the weekend, but around 12pm, so I am hungry by then. I could never understand how my mum can eat porridge at 6am, I used to hate eating breakfast before school 😬

HouseofHolbein · 19/07/2022 13:59

Hello! I'm keeping up with hydration 😊 it has cooled slightly today and it's been raining. I went into town to get my ears pierced again and got absolutely soaked walking back to the car 😱 but I now have more sparkles in my ears and the lovely piercer is going to see what else I can have done 😊

I had breakfast before I went and treated me and girlchild to pain au chocolate from Tesco because I didn't want fainting in the studio 🤣🤣

Not sure about tea probably something with salad but not feeling massively hungry at the moment.

Keeping up with water and green tea and minimum 10k steps each day so I'm happy with that.

Keep safe in the heat everyone!

That’s ok, just be consistent and when you feel able get the next weight set up. Well done on starting, strength training is increasingly important as we get older.

@xogossipgirlxo i had to read your post twice as I thought I’d read SLEEPING IN THE FRIDGE 🤣

@PinkStarAtNight it seems you’re doing everything you can to stay cool! Enjoy your wrap, sounds a tasty 300 cals 👍

@HouseofHolbein Pleased it’s cooling where you are. Today is hotter, much hotter 🥵 You just have to be sensible. I love a bit of sparkle House. Oh my what else are you getting pierced 😮😬🤣. Are you going to be Naughty 😈 😅

Sorry to have been a bit quiet... life has been a bit hectic and I had a funeral this morning which has made me really pause and think - my friend was no age at all.

But glugging the water and keeping nice and stationery so as not to overheat although, thankfully, my house is a mid-terrace so nice and cool for the moment.

I wish I'd thought more about cooking in this heat as we've got burgers on the menu tonight - wish it could be a bbq but would need a garden for that!

Thanks for the reminder for our pets, RealHousewife.. my two kitties are sprawled but I'll refrain from covering them in a wet towel - I value my hands/face/exposed body parts too much 😉

TheRealHousewife · 19/07/2022 15:53

@SanFranBear 💐❤️ Condolences. No apology needed darling. Funerals are sobering and give food for thought.
