Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Love those photos @SanFranBear, just what I needed! I'm stressed tonight after work and can't stop thinking about it. I need more pictures like that to get me in a nice calm and serene mood!

@BlueSilver23 sounds like you're doing well. I'm just starting to hoping I can keep it up. I'm also worried about the heat, I don't well in it at all. I might end up skipping a meal or two as well because last time it was hot I felt really ill and not hungry at all. I'm going to use the weekend to prep - I started a thread asking about how everyone was coping in the heat on Monday and got lots of tips and advice, so I'm going to review them all and put some things in place ready for Monday.

SanFranBear · 15/07/2022 21:18

Well, PinkStar... seeing as you asked so nicely 😉 here's another little baby pony I passed today!

Half way through the month and had a few too many over indulgences, but hoping to sort myself out in the second half by doing more protein shakes, soup and avoiding burgers!

fallfallfall · 15/07/2022 23:59

@SanFranBear those sure are sweet looking :) if i spot any wild life over this way i will share. where my dh has his bees (two different spots...well he has 4 spots) but one fellow has 3 young horses on his property and the other fellow has cattle lots and lots of cattle. last month we got to enjoy some speckled cattle which originated from scotland.

i avoid seeing bears but it's not unusual to get deer.

bambi1132 · 16/07/2022 08:59

Benjispruce4 · 16/07/2022 10:40

Hi everyone. Not caught fully up but well done @bambi1132 thats a great loss.
Been a busy work week in a very hot classroom . Last night was an end of term meal and I wasn’t too off piste as I had prawns to start, veggie main that included a flat bread and I couldn’t eat it all and as everyone else was having dessert I had. a couple of scoops of coffee ice cream which was heavenly on a hot evening. Had 2 G&Ts Been out for a dog walk early this morning and got the hoovering out of the way before it gets hot.
B- sautéed mushrooms, kale and tomatoes on a small piece of toasted sourdough.
L- will be salad, with boiled egg
D- chicken with cold anything!
Hope you have a nice weekend.

fallfallfall · 16/07/2022 13:33

Very nice @bambi1132 !
well done @Benjispruce4, I have zero resistance outside my home kitchen :(, well done. I envy that strength. Buffets are my kryptonite.

Benjispruce4 · 16/07/2022 14:08

@fallfallfall I didn’t choose the food for diet reasons. It was what I would choose anyway.Very rarely eat desserts. My issue has always been around portions and alcohol.

Benjispruce4 · 17/07/2022 08:33

Had a spontaneous night out last night. Wagamama (prawn udon noodles) with a glass of Prosecco followed by two espresso martinis 😋sitting outside by the water. Was a lovely night to celebrate DD1 getting a job after university and warm until late. Perfect.
Lots of water today heatwave ladies!

HouseofHolbein · 17/07/2022 10:38

Hello everyone! I've had some time off from watching what I eat and weighing etc because I needed to. Weighing in tomorrow morning to see what the damage is 🤣🤣

Anyway I did a lovely 10k on Friday night followed by far too much alcohol but it was fantastic to catch up with friends and to make new ones 💕

Photos are me and my friend doing the Sunset Runfest on Friday night and then the sunset as we walked home 💕

Holy moly... that sunset is incredible, Holbein! And well done on managing 10k in this weather - guess that's why it was a sunset run!

Congrats to your DD, Benji - that's a great achievement, especially at the moment.

I was at an event yesterday for DD which was great fun - and whilst I took my own lunch, was catered which I wasn't expecting and obviously couldn't refuse (sitting in a room alone eating oatcakes whilst my DC and the entire group were in the restaurant having nice sandwiches). I was very mindful and so probably went slightly over yesterday but not by ridiculous amounts - and did include a mini-magnum after dinner as it was one of those days!

Today is a day of chores, being Mum Taxi and trying not to overheat. I drank a lot more water yesterday and it certainly helped my back so will be very much trying to replicate that today! Have a good if hot, one!

BlueSilver23 · 17/07/2022 11:34

Just weighed and now stand at a touch over 74.5kgs. Started at about 80kg three weeks ago. A lot may be the sweating from the heat however! Had a Burger King and some ice cream in those few weeks too. So am going to try and continue doing what I’m doing until it stops working and then maybe change things up a bit. Exercise is going on the back burner for a few days in this heat though! I hate it when it’s too hot. And we are right bang in the middle of red area……

TheRealHousewife · 17/07/2022 19:55

Good Evening All 😊

@HouseofHolbein well done on your run 🏃‍♀️ The sunset you posted is on of the nicest I’ve ever seen; simply breathtaking!!! Thank you for sharing!

@BlueSilver23 That is nice and steady progress, well done 👍👏

@SanFranBear You sound like a very busy mum! Pleased to read you’ve some relief from the back pain. I hope you find your next home soon!

@Benjispruce4 congratulations 🥳 on behalf of your daughter. Sounds like last night was one of life’s ‘perfect moments’. They are rare and they need to be celebrated 🙂

@bambi1132 Great progress! 👏👍

@TalkToTheHand123 Put the past 2 weeks behind you and take a bit of time to set your intentions for the next 2 weeks… Meaning write down what you plan to eat, what exercise you’ll be able to fit in (heat permitting) and set reminders to get water in. You can still make some serious progress in the next few weeks.

@PinkStarAtNight Are you able to do an abridged Top Ten hints of how to stay cool in the heat and share via this thread please 🙏

Heres hoping everyone finds some relief in the heat. Natural fibres, cool showers and keep hydration up.

Just caught up with the thread, had lots to think about this weekend (been a bit of a stress one) and have gone slightly off track because today I had a WHOLE small quiche rather than half as planned. BUT yesterday I did have my first ever BBQ where I just had one burger and one sausage and actually felt full and that I'd had enough. So I'm patting myself on the back for that because usually a BBQ for me means 2 burgers and maybe three sausages plus crisps and other snacks! (and then I wonder where this excess weight has come from haha)

@SanFranBear thank you for the poney picture, so lovely!

@TheRealHousewife I still need to go back to my thread actually and collect all the good tips.
Ones I can remember off the top of my head:

Ice or wet sheet in front of fan

Curtains closed

Put bedding/clothes in fridge or freezer

Feet in cold bowl of water

Run wrists under cold tap

Wet flannel on neck

Don't use cooker

Cold food

Keep windows open through night when it's cooler but close in morning, to trap in cool air. Haven't tried this and seems crazy but worth a try I suppose?

OBVIOUSLY keep sipping cold water. I'm going to fill up bottles of water and put them in the fridge overnight so they're nice and cold.

I'll add more if I am reminded of other good ones. I am dreading it!!

Benjispruce4 · 17/07/2022 21:59

I’m sitting outside with my feet in a bowl of cool water. Was heaven earlier. Wrists under cold tap often too .
B-berries and Greek yoghurt
L- 2 pumpkin seed Ryvita with homemade guacamole, apple
D- cold roast chicken with sautéed tomatoes and mushrooms and a few baby pearl potatoes (boiled), salad.
Loads of water and top and tail of the day walks with the dog.

Benjispruce4 · 17/07/2022 22:00

Thanks @TheRealHousewife 🙏🏻

fallfallfall · 17/07/2022 22:16

as for the windows open and shut it really does depend on the inside and outside temps.
even if past sunset if the outside temp is still warmer than the inside of the house you need to keep the hot air out (windows shut) but generally it does cool down past midnight. check the inside and outside temps and then the outside is cooler than the inside open up and get a good crossflow going.
in the am again keep a close eye on the indoor and outdoor temps, once it's warmer outside than in shut the works down and close all the blinds from as much daylight as possible.
some communities have free water, usually those that don't have a heat issue and you can cool off the house nicely by watering the roof.
last year we had a "heat dome" thankfully i'm up a hill and on the shady side (in the true sense) and the only thing that suffered were my plants (blooms fried like potato chips in the sun).
anyway this year a reoccurrence hasn't happened thankfully.
all's well over here food choices are fine, retaining some water weight from me joining dh on two bike rides.
the new bikes are here he loves his, mine is fine.

Your garden looks so neat, tidy and beautiful 😍 @fallfallfall Thank you for the tip re:- windows open/closed 👍 Makes sense.

Someone also said run clothes under cold water and wear them wet.
Sit on a wet towel
Get pet cooling pads and sit on them/have them on your back

And this was a post from an Aussie:

"Aussie here. A tip - don't drink cold water, drink luke warm water instead. Likewise to avoid cold foods. Cold drinks and foods increase your body temperate. One of the reasons a piping hot curry is a win during heat waves.

Also make sure to position your fan the correct way. While it feels great on you, for best cooling and air flow it needs to be near an open window/door to pull in fresh air and push out hot air. Lots of good guides on google of how to do it."

HouseofHolbein · 18/07/2022 07:19

Just weighed in. 9st 12lb. Honestly not surprised after the amount I was drinking at the weekend 🤣🤣

Back on it from today 👍 cutting out the chocolate bars because it's just too hot 🥵 and going to cut out the biscuits as well. They've crept back in 😱

Good luck everyone in the heat we can do this! And thank you @TheRealHousewife because these threads keep me accountable 👍

Benjispruce4 · 18/07/2022 08:00

Went to bed with wet hair last night. Could’nt have faced hairdryer. Have used straighteners on it this morning but it looks much more shiny.
Closed windows and curtains now I’m off to work. Up 0.8 lb but think it’s water and waste. Have a good Monday!

CrimsonAlligator · 18/07/2022 08:38

Morning all! I’m back from a week’s holiday where I ate way too many ice creams. It’s definitely time to get back on plan now. Hot temperatures mess up my appetite, so I reckon today and tomorrow should be pretty easy from that point of view at least.

In other news, I’ve signed up to a new 10k training plan, but for obvious reasons it’ll be a few days before I attempt the first session 😄

Right, I’m off to catch up on the thread now and see what I’ve missed. Stay cool everyone!

ImALittlePea · 18/07/2022 09:33

Morning all! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and is coping well in the heat. We've been keeping all our curtains closed but all windows open all day and night - the house is definitely cooler for us this way, but seems all the advice is to shut the windows in the day?!

@HouseofHolbein that sunset pic is beautiful!

I had too many wines Friday and Saturday nights, and dinner out both nights too, both lovely evenings with friends I don't get to see very often, both with gorgeous views along the seafront. But I also did a lot of walking (including up a cliff one night!), didn't drink anything yesterday and snacked far less over the weekend. Feel a bit bloated today but hopefully water will help sort that.

Today's meals:
Lunch - cup-a-soup and veggies 😂
Dinner - chicken, bacon and greens salad with new potatoes. A bit of cooking involved but nothing too oven intensive.

We're starting to eat most dinners outdoors now, the garden table is in shade by dinner time and the kitchen gets the afternoon sun (and we don't have blinds 🤦‍♀️) so it's just too hot to eat in there!

Stay hydrated folks!

BlueSilver23 · 18/07/2022 11:32

@PinkStarAtNight I also do the curtains and windows shut during the hottest parts of the day trick, otherwise you are letting in warmer air from outside instead of trapping the cooler air inside. Basic physics, warm air will try and move to cooler air space and opening the windows during the day will let the hot air in which we don’t want! I also got a black out reflective temporary blind to reflect the sun outwards in the hottest rooms. Once the sun goes down and the air outside is cooler than inside then all the windows are doors are opened! I have an open backed fan that sits on the window still at night to blow colder air inside too.
