Precious thread is here ... Louise Parker method anyone? I know it's a bit old fashioned now .. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4517125-louise-parker-method-anyone-i-know-it-s-a-bit-old-fashioned-now

Just a place to chat about the method, the ups and downs and how it works etc.

I personally have just completed the first 6 week Transform phase and have lost 18 lbs. Not quite 'transformed' yet but on my way Grin

Thanks @HardRockOwl yes you’re right, I’ll just kick myself if I give up. I need to add some new recipes. For dinner tonight I had savoy eggs which is literally just cabbage and eggs (!) I have to say it was a bit ridiculous. I love all her other recipes so not sure what that one’s doing in there! Bircher tomorrow but lemon this time, and will try the smoked salmon salad for lunch for a change I think…

florianfortescue · 12/05/2022 21:07

Well done everyone. I am so impressed at your sticking to it for 7 weeks @HardRockOwl I really hope I am still going strong at that point!

Food today has been
B Greek yoghurt with peaches and almonds
S pecans, dried cherries (not strictly allowed but I just had a few) and coconut flakes
L leftover chicken and chorizo stew
S Apple and babybel
D steak with cauliflower mash, fennel and green veg

I'm not hungry today but quite tired and "flat" feeling. Day 7 for me so I expect it's just my body adapting. Looking forward to weighing in tomorrow 🤞

florianfortescue · 12/05/2022 21:08

@Bet01 I have to say the savoy eggs did not tempt me at all! Grin I've never eaten a mouthful of cabbage that I enjoyed.

chloechloe · 12/05/2022 21:22

Good lunch for your weigh in tomorrow @florianfortescue !

I’m feeling a bit “meh” this week but it is TOTM so I’ll go easy on myself. I’ve been on plan food wise but am struggling with the exercise. I couldn’t face moving up to workout 2 so stuck to the workout 1 on Monday. Then I couldn’t face that yesterday or today so just did 2 x 20 min Pilates workouts instead. But I guess it’s ok to just listen to your body and take it easy sometimes!

Firsteatthefrog · 12/05/2022 22:28

Evening all! Day 5 here.

B. Fit fry up
S. Peach smoothie
L. Salmon and veg with pesto
S. Monkey toast
D. Salad plate with brie

Also 5 liquorice allsorts. Bertie Bassett called to my PMT and I succumbed. I felt like an idiot though. I’m trying to be a bit more clearsighted about how I’m hurting myself, not helping myself, if I go off plan. And when I compare what I’ve eaten this week to what I ate last week there’s such a difference. I’m nervous that I’m eating too much to be losing weight but I’m not weighing until next Thursday to try and keep focus on the method rather than the scales. Exercise will definitely need more work next week.

@chloechloe the citrus thing is really bitter but I quite like that in small doses. I can understand you throwing it out though! I also find it makes too much so I just boil up 1 orange and a lemon.

blardyfeck · 13/05/2022 06:57

Morning all.
Yesterday was day 6:
B: apple & cinnamon Bircher
L: three bean & feta salad
S: crispbread with vegemite & sunflower seeds
D: bubble & squeak (pancetta, Savoy cabbage & a fried egg - actually I thought it was lovely!)

Already made today's lunch & planned my dinner. I have a food delivery later & ive planned out the whole week ahead. I'm going to try lots of new things for week 2.

I'm also working off the app which is a bit annoying so I've ordered the books off eBay. I think there are some recipes that aren't on the app so I'm looking forward to seeing those.
I'm looking forward to weighing on Saturday morning after a week on plan. I'm still amazed I've stuck to it religiously for a week.
I'll keep you all posted. Have a good day.

TheWreathLady · 13/05/2022 08:47

Morning everyone. Sorry I haven’t posted for a few weeks. I’ve been reading all your posts but not joining in - so rude of me! You’re all doing so well. I think it really is a sustainable way of eating and such a healthy balance.
I’m just about to finish my 10th week this weekend and all I can say is the menopause sucks!
@Bet01 I think my vision is quite similar to yours in that I haven’t got loads to lose but just have a vision of my best self in a bikini in August. I’m 5ft 8, size 12 and started at 11st 10. I’m in my 50s (on HRT). I’m not so fussed about the scales so haven’t weighed much but I’m now 11st 4 so only 6 pounds in 10 weeks 😞. I’ve lost an inch from both hips and tummy but nothing off my hips. I’ve been on plan 95% of the time as there has been Easter, a couple of meals out etc which is inevitable in that amount of time. It’s quite frustrating but I’ll keep with it as it’s just the way I eat now. Slowly does it I guess. I’ve just increased my estrogen dose and I’ve read that may help weight loss (I’ve not increased it for that reason 😂).

Anyway, hope you all have a fab day.
PS. I love the citrus puree!

TheWreathLady · 13/05/2022 08:49

When I say I’m not so fussed about the scales, I mean I know they can go up and down so for me it’s more about how my clothes feel.

florianfortescue · 13/05/2022 09:12

That must be really frustrating @TheWreathLady , I hope you see a flurry of progress soon.

I weighed in this morning and am 4lbs down after my first week which is good, although I always find the first week of any diet is the most productive! Still 28lbs to go so I'm in for the long haul.

Goal for this coming week is to up the ante activity-wise - I only managed 10k steps on two of the days last week and haven't done any of the exercises in the book yet. I am EBF though so it's quite hard to find time. I'll at least try and do more walks with the buggy this week ... up some hills!

Bet01 · 13/05/2022 09:35

Hi @TheWreathLady sorry to hear you're having similar frustrations - but well bloody done on keeping going for that long. I think the 'its just how I eat now' mentality must take a while to sink in but once it does and you're in it for the long haul, the weight will eventually shift I suppose. I mean, it's a scientific impossibility for it not to! 😀(that's what I'm telling myself anyway).

HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 09:40

@TheWreathLady I actually think that's a brilliant loss considering you're what is considered a very healthy weight already. Honestly, don't be so hard on yourself - another 10 weeks would see you approaching a stone down .. and that's impressive when you're not overweight to start with

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 09:44

@blardyfeck fingers crossed for a good first week weigh in. I hear you on being amazed you've stuck to it .. no one could be more surprised than me that I've managed almost 7 weeks now without a slip. Not sure how I've managed that tbh but as someone said previously, it's just how I eat now.

OP posts:
GoodNutButters · 13/05/2022 10:15

Well done everyone and @florianfortescue great start! I hear you on the difficulty of finding time when EBF - I have such grand ambitions but am in the same boat.

My DH has just bought an exercise bike so maybe I could try that!

I'm staying in the circle but not bothering to post my food on here as I eat basically the same thing every day so it's quite dull! Bircher, three bean salad, oatcakes and nut butter or houmous for snacks, a small dinner with minimal carbs. I'm a creature of habit, but very happy that those habits are so much healthier now (my former habit of consuming a shipping container's worth of chocolate every evening at 8.30pm isn't serving me any more!)

HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 17:10

Good times for today so far ...

Bircher with raspberries, pumpkin seeds, quark yogurt and almond milk

Apple and peanut butter

Spelt grains with homemade hummus, and Greek salad + a navel orange

Sat in the hairdressers so my second snack hasn't happened so I'll probably add a hot chocolate on to dinner

HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 17:10

chloechloe · 13/05/2022 19:05

Hello @TheWreathLady , you’ve done really well to do 10 weeks! Well done. I know it’s tempting to concentrate on weight loss, but eating this kind of diet has so many invisible health benefits. And when you’re already a healthy weight and in the menopause then the weight doesn’t want to budge easily! With me the scales are moving slowly but my clothes feel better and my legs look much more toned.

I may have to give the citrus purée another go (in a half batch) seeing as a few if you like it!

It’s been a busy week so I’m treating myself to a takeaway curry tonight. But I’ll skip the poppadoms, naan and rice and starter and share a couple of veg curries with DH. I guess it’s on plan (apart from the portion size!).

TheWreathLady · 13/05/2022 20:47

Thanks @chloechloe , I agree, the health benefits are so much more important. Try the puree with just oranges and no lemon, much less bitter. Ooh I added some orange extract to my bircher this morning- that was nice. I never bother soaking overnight, I just mix and eat 😂

@GoodNutButters do you like eggs? They could add a bit of variety into your meals - boiled for breakfast, hot or cold frittata for snacks or lunch.

@Bet01 @HardRockOwl Thank you! Yes it’s got to work eventually right? I’m enjoying the food but don’t get me wrong, I’m missing sandwiches and biscuits and toast (I’ve had the odd drink to be honest!) Hard Rock, your loss is amazing, so impressive.

Going into the weekend is the hardest part isn’t it? Good luck everyone!

HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 21:28

What is the citrus purée?

I'm dubious tbh as I took Louise's advice and 'zested a brave teaspoon of orange rind' into my bircher once and honestly it was revolting. So .. bitter

OP posts:
chloechloe · 13/05/2022 22:18

The citrus purée is in one of the books with Bircher I think. You basically stew whole oranges and lemons for two hours until they’re very soft and then purée them into a bitter mush (can you tell I’m not sold on it!?) I may give it another go with just oranges!

What would be better would be a big dollop of homemade lemon curd 😀

HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 22:29

@chloechloe or Nutella. Enough of this citrus shit already!

I think I'll pass on the purée. I like the addition of a juice of an orange in the bircher but hard pass to the peel

OP posts:
TheWreathLady · 13/05/2022 22:50

I used to make a flourless orange cake which had whole boiled puréed orange in it. And ground almonds. But obviously lots of sugar too. Really delicious. Mmm cake....

HardRockOwl · 13/05/2022 22:57

@TheWreathLady I love cake. Never met one I haven't got on with

Day 6
Im so impressed with all of you who’ve kept going for so long. It has to be better for you in so many ways but I understand the frustration if the scales aren’t moving as much as you’d like.

Today’s food:
B. Greek yoghurt and citrus thing (have to use it

up!)
L. 3 bean salad - I’ve made enough of this to last
forever but it was nice
S. Monkey toast
D. takeaway but from a ridiculously overpriced healthy place so under 450 calories and def on plan
S. glass of red wine

I think I probably shouldn’t have given in on the wine tonight because now I’ll just want to have some tomorrow night too. Remind me tomorrow that I can’t have it and that I want to lose as much weight as possible and make new habits!!

Firsteatthefrog · 13/05/2022 23:10

@TheWreathLady there’s a chocolate orange version of that cake too. I don’t even like cake but it’s gorgeous. I’d forgotten about that!

Rainallnight · 13/05/2022 23:15

Hello! Thank you for this thread. I’ve just stumbled upon it and I must say I’m very interested. I’ve never followed a proper ‘diet’ before but I quite like the sound of what you’re all eating and I’m in desperate need of something sustainable and manageable.

would you mind helping with a few questions?

What’s the best book to buy?

Are you all managing 10,000 steps plus a 15 minute home workout? If so, when?!

Are you doing the other stuff like no screens after 9?
