That's so weird about the clothes sizes, I wear a size 8 on top and 10 bottom. Occasionally an 8 might be tight around the tops of my arms if or tight across my hips if it's a longer length. But generally a size 10 would have the shoulder seams too wide and look wrong on me.

Sooverthemill · 26/04/2022 21:21

@WellTidy @purplegirl13 i do yoga Almost every day and have done for 6 years and I've also done some Pilates classes previously ( 1-1 and in a group). IME Pilates focuses very much on your core and specific muscles per exercise and yoga builds strength and flexibility. Each are great and each can compliment the tiger. For Pilates you need a good instructor. Sadly my teacher left gen area a few years ago and I've not found another I click with so I now focus in yoga which I love. It tones me, helps with arthritis and is just 'me time' which the whole family try to protect ( well, except the cats who join in). I do yoga with Adrienne and have an ongoing support thread on the yoga board. I sometimes add in Pilates online but it isn't the same

WellTidy · 26/04/2022 21:53

I think I must have hollow bones! Or you’re all skinny minnies already!! A size 8-10 top would look indecent on me with my squidge. I don’t think I’d be able to get an arm through it, let alone my head. I am a 14 petite in Boden’s classic shirt (they’ve been selling it for years in different colours and patterns), but I think I might be able to wear a 12 in M&S.

I bought this green skirt in Boden last week, styling it with the same belt and a generic white linen shirt (like in the picture) and tan sandals and the size 12 fitted perfectly. My weight is all over (not on boobs though, sadly) but my tummy is the biggest part of me. I always used to be a pear shape but definitely more apple like now.

I think I could be a regular yoga or Pilates person, @Sooverthemill. I felt so good in the class (it was very gentle indeed, perfect for me at 8am) and I will go again next week. I am in a waitlist for a mat Pilates class tomorrow, but presently 16th on the waitlist, so I don’t think I will get to the front! You can book classes up to a week in advance, and some are clearly really popular, so I must make a note of which ones I’d like to try. Thanks for your explanations.

neverenoughchelseboots · 27/04/2022 08:34

That's lovely WellTidy. I think linen always looks so classic and elegant but I seem to just look worn out and rumpled in it. I've made my peace with the fact I'm never going to look effortlessly stylish so I've embraced the Vans / Doc Martens & dungaree mum look.

I'm always slightly envious of people that regularly do Yoga and how much they seem to get from it. I get so distracted that I lie there wondering what's for dinner!

I'm the same about tea drinkers - I want to like it and get that deep satisfaction that everyone else seems to get from a cup of tea. 😂

SwimmingOnEggshells · 27/04/2022 21:56

It's lovely to hear everyone's experiences with yoga. I've done it in the best but I don't know if I get that much from it. I'm more of an adrenaline junkie!

So I never managed to get to the gym today. Work is just insanely busy so by the time I've dinner and the kids to bed I'm in my jammies ready to slob on the sofa. I might get there tomorrow though...trying my best not to come up with an excuse not to go.

I love that skirt @WellTidy, beautiful colour of green that you don't see that often. The styling is very chic too.

Re sizings, I think my boobs must carry a fair bit of weight? Also I'm 5'0...Anyway, today bikinis arrived from SHEIN and they were all tight/just about ok in a size medium. I know I shouldn't buy from SHEIN but I needed so many and the prices were too good to resist - €11 a bikini, top and bottom! M&S were €50 each and I need at least 4 so...

I have little bits of squidge/muffin on some of the bottoms which is just about acceptable. Definite motivation to stay on track for the next 8 weeks. One triangle bikini I'll give to my slightly smaller boobed sister because the ratio of boob:material was not a look I'd go for

Hi all
I'd love to join ye. I'm 5ft2 and 42 years old. I currently weigh 9 st 10. Heaviest I've ever been. I don't know what's happening to me.
I started this week on mfp, set to 1400 calories. I walk daily, but I'm trying to maintain 15,000 steps a day, so far managing it.
Pre covid I was an avid gym goer, loved weights and spin. I haven't gone back to the gym much since. Lost all my mojo. I have weights at home so no excuse really.
I can't remember who said there bum was sore from spin but you can buy gel saddles that fit over the existing one. Aldi often have them.
Looking forward to posting and keeping accountable.

againmaeve · 28/04/2022 08:15

Welcome @Cailindeas35 I'm 5ft 2in also and currently 9st 1.8 - been hovering around that weight for a while. I was 10st 7lb at my heaviest and that didn't feel good for me at all. I got under 9 stone for a while but find that hard to maintain as I'm in my fifties. I use MFP and don't snack. I also watch my carb intake and attempt C25K on a regular basis ... but that hasn't been going very well for various reasons.

Sooverthemill · 28/04/2022 08:56

I haven't weighed myself since the shock of last week but I have on a favourite pair of jeans today and I am oozing over. So, have to keep on at it. It's not fair because being so short it really shows

againmaeve · 28/04/2022 08:58

@WellTidy - just reading back and the colour of that Boden skirt is gorgeous! I've been doing yoga for years - weekly - but I couldn't get on with Pilates.

againmaeve · 28/04/2022 08:58

So right @Sooverthemill - even a couple of pounds shows on us shorties...

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/04/2022 12:04

@Cailindeas35 hello! you'll get your mojo back :)
I joined a new gym and did a spin class this morning, the class wasn't quite as energetic as the ones I used to do but this was surprisingly hard all the same.

I just made the most delicious soup:
Handful frozen onions
Whole bag of tesco frozen butternut squash
squeeze of cheat garlic
squeeze of cheat lemongrass
chicken stockpot
1 can of coconut milk
dash of dried chiilies
splash of fish sauce
bit of pepper
2 kaffir lime leaves (took these out before the end but not entirely necessary, I keep a bag in the freezer)
added water to get the right consistency.

Blitzed! so hearty and tasty.

I’m bloody putting on weight. I blame the exercise, as I’m definitely not eating any more than I was and so the exercise is the only thing that has changed. I did an hour’s walking at 6km/hour at high gradient on the treadmill this morning and feel like I deserve a medal. The last kilometre was really hard.

@Cailindeas35 Welcome. Wishing you the best of luck. I was 10st 5lb at the start of the year, and am hovering around 9st 5lb now. I count calories as that’s the only way I can think (years of conditioning) and I have upped my exercise. I mainly walk, and now do a bit of rowing and a bit of cross-trainer.

Yoga tomorrow!

WellTidy · 29/04/2022 12:04

Soup sounds amazing @SwimmingOnEggshells, I’d love that.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/04/2022 14:03

It's the exercise @WellTidy ! Sore muscles retain water, you'll lose it again. You've been so good that it's impossible for you to have put on any weight.

Hi again, I put my head in a couple of weeks ago, I've now finished my next ivf instalment for a couple of months so I'm free to try to get on top of my weight a bit. I've also booked a holiday for early June so need to get myself in gear!

@againmaeve I'm not far off 10st 7 now and I hate it. I'm probably 10st 5 or 6 if I weigh myself, haven't done it yet, and it really doesn't suit me.

Sooverthemill · 03/05/2022 08:34

Good luck @thislittlebird we are a nice bunch on here

Okay so time to take myself seriously in hand. Have asked DH to stop randomly buying me pastries as I then feel really guilty about how expensive they are so feel I can't waste them. I have meal planned this weeks food BUT DS is coming over freight to test out some pizzas for his new pizzeria opening in a month. I wanted to say no but feel it's not fair on him. He's got a fancy pizza oven for his garden and I bringing it round. Meanwhile his pizzeria is being kitted out and looking fab.

so today it's
granola and lactose free yoghurt
butternut squash soup and slice toast
lamb steaks with roasted tahini cauliflower and courgettes ( and potatoes for DH)

each breakfast and lunch is pretty similar ( means I can't forget) and I have a chicken dish and a veggie dish for next two days lined up. Friday pizza and Saturday DH is away so DD and I may have a curry which is our custom when he's away I will see how I'm doing and if she's up to it as she's been unwell. Sunday is Turkey burgers with salad and tabuleh and Monday will be another veggie day probably pasta, green veg and pesto

if I have th meals planned it's far easier. Also our food shop is hideously expensive at the moment so we may freezer dive to eat up stuff like black pudding and other weird things in there since Xmas but I shall adapt everything for my attempt to lose weight

Sooverthemill · 03/05/2022 08:38

If anyones interested in a fairly delicious chicken meal this is essentially the recipe I use except mine was from a M&S cookery book my mum gave me when I left home in 1976! I use Greek yoghurt instead of cream and I always serve on rice to soak up all the delicious sauce. If you care about calories it's about 285 per portion, I always remove skin.

thislittlebird · 03/05/2022 09:26

Recipes always welcome! I have a veggie/pescy dh, but in a way that’s not a bad thing as veggie meals can easily be quite low calorie. Last night we had this easy Thai curry recipe, which was quite low calorie when I worked it out because we swapped chicken for baby corn and mange tout: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/thai-red-curry/amp

@Sooverthemill you’ve inspired me to meal plan, I’m off today I’m going to try that for the week.

I think I’m going to attempt??? the 30 day shred because I have the holiday on June 4th. I weighed myself yesterday and I’m 10 st 5lb and my waist is 36 inches. I’m somehow still a size 10 on top but with a lot more back fat than I’d like 😬and a size 12 on bottom, I was more like an 8/10 a few years ago. I’ve added it to my nhs weight loss app (not sure how good this app is, not used it before) and my fitness pal. I’ll continue when I get back from holiday too, I’ve got probably 2-3 months off of treatment to, at the very least, get back into the 9 stone bracket.

Knittingnanny2 · 03/05/2022 11:03

The chicken recipe looks lovely I’m going to try that
well I’m totally off weight control since tooth e traction 20 days ago. The extraction site is finally pain free but for the last 10 days I’ve had a completely blocked nostril eye and cheek ache and loss of taste. Horrible breath and feeling miserable! So I’ve ate anything I fancy. picking up a prescription later for antibiotics as I’m assuming I have some sort of sinus infection.
I definitely should not have googled sinus perforation following tooth extraction!

WellTidy · 03/05/2022 12:52

I’ve come to the conclusion that I am a freak of nature 😀. I’m up to 9st 5.5lb, which is really disappointing, but I’m not eating any more than I have for the last few months and I am still going to the gym daily. My waist is 33 inches, which is the smallest it’s been for quite a while, but I’m hoping that as I lose weight and exercise more, it will drop. It was quite a shock to see.

But I take your point @SwimmingOnEggshells about inflammation and water and I am battling on!

Did a beginners yoga class for an hour this morning (still loving it), then some time on the treadmill and rowing machine. And then walked for almost an hour and a half.

Thanks for the chicken recipe @Sooverthemill, we would enjoy that. Do you buy special paprika? I have the normal
sainsburys ground one, but I’m wondering if I should buy a more specialist one. I always meal plan too, but for me it’s to try and minimise waste, rather than with a healthy objective.

Welcome @thislittlebird - best of luck!

WellTidy · 03/05/2022 12:52

Poor you @Knittingnanny2, that sounds really rough. Fingers crossed for the antibiotics.

Sooverthemill · 03/05/2022 13:46

@Knittingnanny2 that sounds rotten. Hope it clears up soon
@WellTidy no I just use the one from tesco. I occasionally add a pinch of cayenne. I find smoked paprika a bit strong so use the big standard one.

Cailindeas35 · 03/05/2022 13:59

Hi all
Thank you for the lovely welcome.
I weighed in this morning and I'm down 1 lb. I was good all week, but was out at the weekend. I thought I would have added not lost but I'll take the loss. I'm maintaining the 15,000 steps, except the weekend. And I finally booked in for spin Wednesday evening.

Great to see how everybody is doing. @WellTidy maybe it's muscle your putting on.

purplegirl13 · 03/05/2022 18:33

Checking in to say I'm failing miserably. I can't get myself in check and my clothes are so tight. Will start posting again as hoping being active on this thread will give me kick so desperately needed.

thislittlebird · 03/05/2022 18:35

@purplegirl13 that sounds like me! I’m hoping if I put my head in here it will prod me to keep going.

I just did my first at home work out 🙌. It was very hard, but hopefully will get easier in the days to come.
