I just injected for the first time. I was nervous. However, I needn't have been, it was so easy and painless. I'm now sitting here waiting to see if I feel anything. Do I have breakfast?

@EmmaH2022 why do you think it isn't working for you?

Hopefully you will be fine!

I have no idea but after yesterday - when frankly my lunch and dinner were bigger than usual - I thought I better weigh in this morning and no change.

There is no point putting this in my body unless I get a significant reduction in weight.

I might now have to give up. If I have to go through all the nuisance of weight loss and it's not like the first few days of no appetite, then the drug becomes redundant.

I did write off weight loss years ago. I even did an experiment where I ate a donut every day as an afternoon snack, for a month, to see if I gained any more. I knew I wouldn't because I had hit set point.

But then when my dad was dying, I was in the hospital all bloody day for two and half months, eating at least two choc bars a day, a big brekkie, sandwiches and smoothie at lunch, ready meals and takeaway for dinner....and I lost two stone in that time from the stress! I was also slim when I worked long hours and ate junk.

It's clearly hormonal but wtf do I need to do to my hormones to make that happen again?

If I stick to about 1100 cals a day and do my normal workouts (which I admittedly I rarely do since hitting peak weight) then I lose half a pound a week.

Might as well stay fat.

OP posts:
Ralley · 27/02/2022 11:32

@EmmaH2022 That totally sucks! The whole hormonal thing is a complete nightmare. I'm 46 and have steadily gained weight for the last two years despite being pretty consistent with what I ate and always keeping up exercise. It is so hard to lose weight, a real battle and let's be fair, we all want to have some sort of a normal life and not be scrutinising every single thing we put in our mouth.

I ate breakfast this morning as usual and feel no different and am hungry again now. I am hoping for total non-interest in food but not there yet.

Im sorry that this isn't working for you @EmmaH2022 anymore. It must be so frustrating Daffodil

Ralley · 27/02/2022 12:02

@EmmaH2022 have you thought about trying Mysimba?

Peridot1 · 27/02/2022 12:11

That is so frustrating and disappointing @EmmaH2022.

Have you thought about trying Ozempic? I don’t completely understand the science but Ozempic is different in that it helps with blood sugars and insulin release. I read a really interesting book called The Obesity Code and the doctor that wrote that says that high insulin levels cause obesity. I think the thinking has been that being over weight causes high insulin levels which leads to type 2 diabetes but he thinks that high insulin levels leads to obesity which then leads to type 2 diabetics. It why I tried it rather than Saxenda. I don’t actually eat a lot and I don’t binge and I eat relatively healthily most of the time. So I didn’t think Saxenda would really help me. But I thought that Ozempic might if my weight is due to high insulin which is being stored as fat.

It may be worth looking into?

Sorry to hear it's not working @EmmaH2022

I'm only on day 4 and at 0.6mg and I have absolutely no appetite. I'm struggling with that though as I don't want a huge dip in calories - I know from years of trying to lose weight it just comes back to bite me in the arse and I overcompensate with binging so I'm trying to force food down today Sad

PurpleBun · 28/02/2022 14:17

Hi all,

I've just found this thread and would like to join in please - I'm hoping to start Saxenda in the next few days (been prescribed online and am waiting for it to come through).

Many thanks, Kelly

Ralley · 28/02/2022 16:27

Hello @GayParis @PurpleBun !

I have just started - 2 days in. My appetite is fairly normal, perhaps a little reduced. I was kind of hoping to be a bit more like you @GayParis but I understand where you are coming from.

Ive got 2 stone to shift.

PurpleBun · 28/02/2022 16:36

Hi @Ralley - I'm currently about 9.5 stone overweight so I'm hoping to shift some of that.

Are you having any side effects?

Ralley · 28/02/2022 16:52

👋 @PurpleBun . No side effects so far so all good. I've been reading lots of posts and reviews and some people have quite a few off putting experiences, but then there are so many success stories too. I really want to retrain my eating habits on this journey so I can sustain any weight loss forever.

How are you feeling about starting @PurpleBun

GayParis · 28/02/2022 16:55

Hi @Ralley @PurpleBun !

I was fine the first 2 days, it's only really been the last 2 days my appetite has just plummeted. I'm hoping it evens out as I just don't want to be in a huge calorie deficit then overcompensating! Starvation mode is def a myth but I've been studying a medical-related degree the last 3 years and know the body definitely does over-compensate if you are in too low a deficit through various pathways. (As a side note to that if you've got any questions about Saxenda I'll do my best to answer it but by no means an expert!!)

Anyway, main side effects have been heartburn at night and I am really struggling to poop!!! How about you guys?

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 28/02/2022 17:07

Hi- really interested in trying this, a friend is using it and has lost 18lb. Has anyone got it through the GP in England? Thanks

StarbucksQueen · 28/02/2022 17:45

It seems my previous post was deleted.. think I mentioned stuff fir sale... anyway, the side effects were too much for me, had to take a day off work after increasing my dose just 2 notches, then spending the next 24hrs vomiting.. I was having nausea anyway, but feeling so ill and not making it to work have ended this for me... good luck to those with no side effects.. back to the drawing board for me I'm afraid..

Oh no Starbucks I really feel for you, I hope you feel better asap.

I have decided to stop taking it. Clearly my body has beaten the mechanism of action with remarkable speed! There is no point continuing for me. Thank goodness I didn't order a lot.

I have done some research and as I seemed to be okay with no side effects, I am going to use up what I have left on spread out days...I gather it can sometimes work on those days you feel like a bottomless pit of hunger.

Best of luck all.

@StarbucksQueen I wondered why your post was deleted.

Sorry it didn't workout for you 😞

scarlettoharasgreendress · 01/03/2022 23:49

Week 2 done.
I'm down 2.5kg in total which I'm really pleased with. That was all on 0.6 so I'm staying there until I feel the need to up it. I can't afford to use more than I need to!

All the side effects are currently gone too which is encouraging me to stay on this dose!

Sorry for those of you it's not working out for. I guess like many things, it's not a miracle and it's not effective for everyone Sad

40somethingmummy · 02/03/2022 08:15

Yep I’m two weeks down and happy with loss.
Weight was 14.2 - now 13.8
I also started WW a week ago too to make sure I ate the right foods as I’m a massive chocoholic and thought if I wasn’t feeling the hunger there was a real danger I would snack on junk, which isn’t the lifestyle change I needed.
I ordered my next set of pens Yesterday (only ordered 1 at first as wasn’t sure it would suit me).
Ordered 3. Don’t intend to go above 2nd dose unless I have to - for cost as to help with my own self control 😂
I planned my weight loss at 1-2lb a week and felt disheartened at how long it would take to get to goal.
But then I remembered how I felt having lost 16lb last time I lost weight (which is only 8-10 weeks time being realistic)!
It felt great.
I’ve decided to stop focusing on the final goal weight and concentrate on the first milestone which will be a stone.

Chilver · 02/03/2022 08:21

HI all, I am looking into weight loss options and need to take action! I was wondering whether I should start Saxenda now or wait until Wegovy is available? Can you switch from one to the other?

And lastly, how do you actually get hold of either? Is it as simple as buying from an online pharmacy or are there hoops to jump through first (like GP etc)?

I have tried many, many diets over the past 6 years but my metabolism is stuffed after a lot of medical treatment so they rarely work - I eat way less than most of my family and friends and am far fatter! Unfortunately the medical treatments make a lot of exercise unsuitable for me so I can't just exercise all the weight away either - walking (and very limited time) is about all I can do in conjunction with dieting.

Exactly. Each pound or kilo should be celebrated!

Welcome Chilver! Yes you can't get it through an online pharmacy. A dr will review it. You could easily switch to Wegovy if you wanted to. Lots switch to Ozempic which is similar.

BigBessie · 02/03/2022 13:46

I've just restarted Saxenda . I did it last year and lost a stone but couldn't afford to keep it up and piled it back on again .

I've rejigged my finances so I can afford to keep going this time .

5 days in and I've only lost a pound so far but my work have just given out free Domino's pizza to all and I refrained and had a pear instead so it's deffo working !

PurpleBun · 02/03/2022 14:35

Well, I've finally received my prescription and am ready to start... does it seem to matter what time of day you do the injection? I only ask as I take other tablets which make me drowsy, so they get taken just before I go to bed.

I'm nervous about starting but also excited Smile

40somethingmummy · 02/03/2022 15:46

@PurpleBun some take am and some pm. I don’t think it matters except you’re suppose to aim for same time each day

Good luck.

Good luck @BigBessie

PurpleBun · 02/03/2022 16:29

@40somethingmummy many thanks - I think I'll be aiming for evening as it'll be after 2 small kids are in bed (firstly so I can get the courage without distraction and secondly so that I don't have the kids asking questions about what I'm doing - not quite ready for that yet!).

ImSaxyAndIKnowIt · 02/03/2022 19:34

How is everyone getting on? I’m now 15 stone 13 so 7lbs lost. Upped my dose but really really struggling with nausea so lowered it back to 0.6, think I’ll just stay on this for as long as possible.
