@Sunshinedreaming2022 do you mind me asking why you are staying on the low dose? I was planning to increase weekly until I get to 3 but have noticed that some people don’t do that.

Verv · 21/03/2022 16:09

I started Saxenda a week ago, this is my last day on 0.6.
I've really minimised my food intake, but, im starving!
I thought this stuff was supposed to suppress appetite?
Ive had a cold all week which probably hasnt helped but I had 2 slices of toast for lunch at 12.30 and my stomach is now roaring.
Ill eat an evening meal and that'll be it but wondering if the reason im still hungry is because im in the build up the dose stage?

also have had chronic acidy indigestion all week. Meh.

DianaBarry5 · 21/03/2022 18:35

On day 3 of 0.6 saxenda. Felt fine first 2 days, Today, exhausted and bloated stomach. Did manage to go to loo when I got home from work but feel awful. Any advice appreciated

EachandEveryone · 21/03/2022 18:56

I tried to go up but felt ghastly. I’m going to try again tomorrow now that I’ve bought travel sickness pills. I’m eating loads of fruit and drinking lots of water I haven’t been constipated but my reflux is on another level. I find that quite scary as it can’t be good for you.

bellac11 · 21/03/2022 19:23

@ChequerboardCharlie

I think all my life when I’ve looked at a menu it’s been about finding the most delicious, but also filling item on the menu. Whereas now I’m just not bothered. I was in town the other day and would have normally gone for sit down sushi for lunch but I grabbed a tuna sandwich and threw half away. It’s eye opening to be one of those people for whom food is fuel. It’s also really helped me see that I wasn’t a weak or bad person, I really do have some problem with hunger hormones. I really hope this sticks when I stop the medication.
Its phenomenal to me, it has cemented in my mind that this is all about those hormones.

Me too with the menu thing, looking for what is likely to be the biggest, most comforting, most satiating, most delicious thing.

And if I ordered something that ended up being smaller than my OHs I would feel really hard done by.

bellac11 · 21/03/2022 19:27

Just to add to some posts above (there doesnt seem to be a multi quote system), Im on Ozempic but will stay on the lowest dose I can get away with personally so that Im not taking more of something than I need

Secondly with the other poster still being hungry, they do say that somem people dont respond to it, but personally I have had to cut out most carbs (bread, pasta, rice and potato and anything made of those things) as I know that my body just craves and craves food if I eat them, if I minimise them it helps me. So Im still sticking to that even though Im on these meds.

Just 2 slices of toast? There is no nourishment there, just empty calories. No wonder your body was starving, especially if you're eating less than before! To ensure adequate nutrition prioritise protein, then healthy fats and green veg. That will help with satiety as well.

I have been on Oz for 7 weeks, thanks to this thread (actually, mostly thanks to the previous one). I hoped this would be my chance to be able to stick to a healthy diet, without overeating which was my main issue. And I was right - it's an amazing drug, and this is the first time in my half-a-century that I can feel satisfied and not wanting to eat more just because the food is tasty.

With the first pen (0.5 for 4 weeks) I'd lost 8% of my total weight, and I need to lose an additional 2.5 st to get to normal BMI.

LighterHeart · 21/03/2022 20:02

@Verv Apologies, I just reread what I wrote and it sounds much harsher than I meant it! I meant to encourage you to keep up with Sax and make healthier, more nourishing food choices, which would help you shed excess fat as well as make you feel full.
Things like meat/fish/eggs, with a bit of avo and salad; Greek yogurt with some protein powder/collagen stirred in and a few berries; Baby bel cheese and ham slices, etc.
Good luck!

If you are hungry why are you big eating ?

You can have something healthy…

Cherryonthetop2019 · 21/03/2022 21:49

Can I join? I’m in the middle of week 2 and the side effects are finally beginning to settle down. I’m terribly needle phobic and today is the first time I’ve managed to inject without using emla first. Hoping to loose 2 stone but not obsessing over scales so apart from starting weight I haven’t weighed in yet. Going to give it a week or 2 yet so I don’t get too despondent if I don’t see a big loss every week.

Wizzbangfizz · 22/03/2022 12:51

After much dithering I have finally ordered the 0.25 of Ozempic and have just taken my first dose. Fingers crossed this is the start of some serious change!

AdditionalCharacter · 22/03/2022 15:17

Just picked up my first lot of Saxenda. Going to start it tonight, so taking it when I take other meds as that's a consistent time, and can't guarantee promptness in the morning as work shifts.

Anyone taken it at night and had ok side effects?

On a side not, does it work out cheaper taking Ozempic, as working it out Saxenda works out pretty expensive if one syringe lasts 6 days when on full dose.

bellac11 · 23/03/2022 07:48

Part of the reason I went with Ozempic is the price, its 140 for 4 weeks, that seemed in my head to work out cheaper than Saxenda, although I found it very hard to work out what Saxenda would cost to be honest

If it works and I take it over 10 months, thats 1400 pounds which is much cheaper and less intrusive than surgery.

My update after one week is that I have lost 2lb, I was hoping for more if Im honest but it might be a lag in my body weight. I had lost 7lb in the week before I started it but I suspect a lot of that was water weight after a holiday. I have stuck to around 1k cals a day so that should be nearly 3lbs loss each week according to my weight and height. Ive also managed some exercise too which I wasnt sure about given the low calorie intake I have.

I dont have side effects, bit sluggish going to toilet which is not something I usually suffer from. I am also incredibly tired and I think thats from having such a low cal diet at the moment. Neither of these things are deal breakers for me so I will continue so far.

Recycledblonde · 23/03/2022 08:54

I did my first injection of Saxenda last night. So far no side effects but I really don't fancy breakfast, I've had two cups of coffee so far but don't even feel like a piece of toast.

Aye, that's it working. Been on it 4 weeks now and on 2.6 as it started wearing off recently. Overall, definitely eating less and hardly thinking of food. Such a liberation. I have 2 stone to lose and my plan is to do so by august - then phase it out and healthy eating in. Good luck everyone!
AdditionalCharacter · 23/03/2022 15:33

Just joined a FB sax group, wow what an eye opener! I'm surprised at how little some of the people on there have read up on this, or even read any of the instructions that come with it. They're doing their own doses, going up and down every week, missing a few days then having the missed doses all in one shot. Crazy! It's like they've just got them because their friend did, like it's an MLM (looking at you Juice Plus).

I ordered from Boots and the instructions were very clear, and I also watched the suggested videos. Are other places not sending full instructions?

bellac11 · 23/03/2022 17:36

I updated this morning to say that I had a very good week last week, not hungry and not craving food

Having been at work all day I can say that I have had hunger pains and its quite difficult, it feels like Im not on any medication but took my second jab yesterday (Ozempic). Last week on Wednesday it kicked in straight away but today feels very different.

Im quite worried its stopped working for me or something

CarlieH · 23/03/2022 17:42

Hi all,
I'm new here and wanted some people to talk to, to share experiences with taking Saxenda. I've been taking it for 3 weeks now and so far I am so pleased with my results, I've lost 14lbs and have gone down a dress size!
Only thing I'm currently struggling with is not being able to go to the loo, sorry for TMI. So may have to take something to help with that.
My other concern is am I eating enough? May sound strange as yes, Saxenda curbs your appetite etc which it most definitely has but will it still work if I'm not eating enough?
Thought I'd ask on here and see if anyone has maybe had the same or maybe it's just me 😒
Due to go up to 2.4mg Friday and will weigh so fingers crossed for a loss.
Carlie x

EachandEveryone · 23/03/2022 18:10

If ypu are not having hunger pangs is there any point in going up? Im just thinking of the money.

CarlieH · 23/03/2022 18:23

It’s working for me so yes I want to continue!

Peridot1 · 23/03/2022 21:06

@bellac11 - it can be like that I think. First week great and then not so great. It was for me. It’s still working though. I lost 5.5lbs in first week but then gained the following week. It’s now coming off again. I’ve lost just over 9lbs in six weeks. Slow but steady. I’m on 0.5 but will go up to 1mg next week I think.

Intemperatefatty · 23/03/2022 22:07

Hello, can I join? I restarted on Saxenda just after Xmas, have previously used it and lost loads of weight but regained after stopping. I now have 1.5 stone to lose before a holiday at the end of May. The weight has been very slow to come off this time around so I’ve started tracking my calories on MFP as well as of last week . I’m eating around a 1000 calories a day and up to 1.8mg. I don’t feel hungry at all so I’m hoping it speeds up.

It’s been interesting to read that some people seem to be getting better results with Ozempic. I’d like to try this once my current Saxenda pens run out. Am I able to just switch?

Also, what are you all doing with your sharps bins once full? Tried googling but all I could find was specialist medical waste collection companies.

TIA.

elizabethdraper · 23/03/2022 22:36

Oh course you are starving. You haven't eaten any food.

Toast/bread is pointless food

Have eggs for breakfast and a chicken salad for lunch

Peridot1 · 24/03/2022 08:07

@Intemperatefatty - it will depend where you are getting your Saxenda I think. I don’t think everywhere that supplies Saxenda also supplies Ozempic. I think Saxenda is purely for weight loss whereas Ozempic is actually a drug for diabetes which is used off plan for weigh loss.

Thank you, I will stick in there, went to bed early to get rid of the hunger pains and cravings. Woken up this morning and dont feel hungry but then I dont tend to in the mornings so I dont know if perhaps its kicked in today or hasnt.
Ive stuck religiously to around 1k cals daily, weighing and measuring everything meticulously so its frustrating Ive only lost 2lbs last week and then another 1 down today but I was hoping for a solid 3lbs a week off.
