A Warm Welcome to New and existing Members alike! Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Welcome @HarrietsweetHarriet. I can't empathise with the weight gain due to illness. Dh made me eat when I had ten weeks in bed and I out a stone in. I'm still trying to lose the damn thing.

TheRealHousewife · 02/02/2022 22:30

A warm welcome to the thread @HarrietsweetHarriet. Have you decided on a plan or way of eating yet? Or are you going to be counting calories? There is no one way fits all. I do a mix of cc, intermittent fasting and Mediterranean diet.

Good evening! Missed the end of the last thread, but January was a bit rubbish weight loss wise anyway. Was weigh in day at work, I had lost 3.1kg and was crowned bigger loser of the week so pretty chuffed with that. Not sure how I did it, ate a lot over the weekend and only started properly on Monday. Loosely following Michael Moseleys fast 800 keto, but probably won't be as strict at weekends or I will lose the will a little Grin Nice to catch up on how everyone is doing, have a lovely rest of the evening.

SunshineCake1 · 03/02/2022 05:57

Help! Has anyone got any ideas for me please? I went to bed hurting more from my accident than I did yesterday morning. I've woken up still in pain. Have taken paracetamol even though I didn't get much relief from it. I did run and do two walks yesterday but felt okay but last night and now, OW!!!

icklekid · 03/02/2022 06:32

Morning, hoping to join this group as had my first good week - weighing in tomorrow…

Can I ask a question about intermittent fasting, does drinking coffee break the fast? I have my evening meal about 7 and then don’t eat food until 12 but I do drink coffee before that…?

swampytiggaa · 03/02/2022 07:15

@icklekid welcome! Black coffee or tea doesn’t break the fast. However I can’t drink tea black and I need a cuppa in the morning. So I have one cup of tea with milk when I get up then I drink black coffee/ green tea/ water for the rest of the day.

I’ve seen conflicting reports about milk in drinks and fasting but I do what’s right for me 😊

icklekid · 03/02/2022 07:34

Thanks that’s helpful. Hunger wise and listening to my body it’s working now just to see if it helps with weight loss. I’m hoping first week will be a decent loss to get me motivated

ImALittlePea · 03/02/2022 07:35

@icklekid I do the same, technically not a proper fast but I still think it's better than the old breakfasts I used to have, and I cannot abide not having a morning brew!

ginsparkles · 03/02/2022 08:30

Good morning! Welcome @icklekid and @HarrietsweetHarriet .... I sympathise with the back thing. I broke my spine 5 years ago and the recovery was not fun. Exercise was hard for a long time so I focussed more on what I ate.

Yesterday was ok.... except a LOT of bread, so scales are inevitably up this morning. Plan for today is :
Mid morning banana
Lunch salad of some description not decided fully!
Dinner is jacket potatoes
Most exciting of all.... my first time back in the saddle since I broke my back! I'm so excited. This is the only form of exercise I have ever enjoyed!
Have a fabulous day everyone.
Ps sending love and healing vibes to @SunshineCake1

Morning all & hello to newbies 👋🏻

Day 33 - Thurs 3rd Feb - 9s 2 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.7

I'm back to a weight featuring a 2lb somewhere 😀 Am particularly pleased given the chocolate intake yesterday, having it less often & really enjoying what I do have is definitely the way forward. I'm still eating much better - highlights yesterday included a plain jacket potato with cottage cheese, some grapefruit juice & fresh cherries. My palate is so refined now, it all tasted delicious.

Have a good day all 🙂

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2022 09:59

Ooooo I love a Crown 👸🏼 well done @Akitamum 👍👏🏅

A warm welcome @icklekid In regards to coffee if it’s black it won’t but if your having Mochacappifrappychinoweenowith sprinkles it might 😬

@8stone13 😅 glad you’re back where your happiest!

Menu
Meal 1 - Chicken & Vegetable soup with added quinoa
Meal 2 - Mixed roast veg and chicken fillet. Mustard mayonnaise dressing.
Tea, black coffee, water, pistachios, apple.

NSV - Put on a dress I haven’t worn for a while and it fitted lovely 😊

Dipping back in, hi everyone and hope you are all ok.
So I gave up all chocolate/crisps/biscuits/cakes/processed food.
Lost 2kg, but somehow I've gained a kg back.
I'm eating two meals a day, no snacking, do have a tea and a coffee first thing with milk.
I'm cooking a bit more (my OH was doing it all as I've just had hand surgery) so managing a few low carb meals.
I'm a bit depressed by it, it's piling onto my midriff.
It's definitely not muscle as I'm not exercising.
I've got a phone appt with my GP today and will be asking for my Thyroid to be tested.
I did go for a short run yesterday and will dig out my Davina McColl 7 minute HIIT DVD and do a couple of non weight lifting routines today.
I expected to stall after an initial loss, but not to start gaining again!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/02/2022 10:41

Can I join you all? I started calorie counting in early January. Pleased to report a 6lb loss at the end of the month. My goals/motivation to be fitter and healthier and buy clothes because I love them, not because they fit me!

I'm trying basically to eat less and move more. Using nutracheck for calorie counting and Apple Watch to keep track of activity. Mostly doing Les mills classes at home, and on my 5742nd attempt at couch to 5k - started week 6 yesterday.

For February I'd like to:

  • reduce my average 4 week calorie consumption on nutracheck (my daily goal is 1400 cals, but over indulging in the weekend means I'm sitting at just under 1500 a day on average)
  • maintain regular exercise schedule which went well in Jan
  • lose another 4-6 pounds before I go back to the office after 2 years wfh at the beginning of March!
Crazzzycat · 03/02/2022 10:57

Morning all! I weighed myself this morning after conveniently “forgetting” to do so yesterday. 75.7 kg, the lowest number on the scales so far 🥳

I’m not doing brilliantly mentally at the moment, so hopefully that will give me a little boost!

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2022 11:09

Welcome back @cherrytree63 You’re still a 1lb down which is great. I share your frustration about yo-yoing. I pretty much yo-yo’d all last year. My excess is also around my middle section. I think it’s hormonal and blood sugar/insulin based. Last year or it might have been the year before they said I was pre-diabetic so I’m careful with carbs and eating fresh.

A warm welcome to the thread @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo That’s great progress so far. 👍👏🏅

@Crazzzycat that is fantastic! 👍👏🏅 🥳

Welcome @icklekid.

Hurray for the being back in the saddle @ginsparkles.

Hurray for the NSV @TheRealHousewife. Well done Smile.

Try not to be too downhearted @cherrytree63. There sometimes feels like no rhyme or reason to food in, weight off numbers.

Welcome @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo.

Hurray @Crazzzycat! Sorry you are feeling rubbish but well done on the loss. Really pleased for you.

Sorry to not be too involved. Just got back from A&E. Thankfully not a broken rib but I'm in a lot of pain. I've just taken co-codomol and I am feeling really out of it.

8stone13 · 03/02/2022 12:12

@SunshineCake1 Ouch - you have been in the wars - hope the meds kick in soon & you feel better 🤞🏻

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/02/2022 12:53

Thanks for the welcome all!

HarrietsweetHarriet · 03/02/2022 14:11

Thank you for the warm welcome! That's so lovely of you.
CW: 12 st.
GW: 10 /7
BMI says my max weight should be 10/10 so if I can get somewhere between 10 and a half and 10/10 I'll be delighted.
I'm not fixed on a specific diet yet but trying to do the 8/16 (?) thing, so limiting eating between 11 am and 7pm. This means missing breakfast and trying to have a smallish brunch or lunch and not thinking 'well I didn't have breakfast so I can have a massive lunch'!
I'll see how that goes...
I'm not working currently (not through choice but Covid related redundancy then back injury and now I'm having a bit of a confidence crisis). This is not a particularly good thing for me as I comfort eat especially when I have time on my hands.
Brunch today was a latte and cinammon bun as I was out. Hmmm.
I've given up: alcohol, bars of chocolate, desserts after meals, crisps. Replacing these cravings with fruit or nuts.
I get to the gym or pool 3 or 4 hours per week and do 10,000 steps most days.
My clothes are all too tight which is a good incentive as I hate how that feels.
I eat fish but not meat or poultry so meals tend to be based around vegetables. I need to cut down on cheese as that's a weakness.

Crazzzycat · 03/02/2022 14:15

A warm welcome from me too @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo!

I’m puzzled by this morning’s low reading, as I went spectacularly off plan yesterday (think sugar, salt & lots of white carbs). It’s encouraged me to do better today though. I want to see what those scales say tomorrow when I haven’t been pigging out the day before.

I’m glad to hear you didn’t break anything @SunshineCake1, but sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I fell off a treadmill years ago. The bruising was spectacular 😬 I think it took me a couple of weeks before I felt ready to run again. Fingers crossed your recovery is a bit quicker.

ImALittlePea · 03/02/2022 14:35

I need some dinner inspo please! Normally eat with husband but he's got a late meeting followed by football so I'm just cooking for me, and I don't know what I fancy. And I don't want to resort to a quick beige dinner because of this (which I normally would) when I've worked so hard to overcome my dwindling motivation at the start of the week!

For lunch I had a salad with vegan chicken and a boiled egg. Calorie count so far for the day is c.400, inc snacks, tea etc so a bit left to play with.

So what's everyone else got planned?

Crazzzycat · 03/02/2022 14:42

I’m planning to make a variation of this @ImALittlePea

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/sausage-kale-chilli-pasta

I’m going to use veggie sausages, infinitely less oil (do people really use 3 tbsp to fry a few sausages?!), tinned cherry tomatoes and spinach as well as kale to up the green veg.

I’ve made it like that a few times before and it’s lovely (and nowhere near the 700+ calories of the BBC Good Food version) ☺️

campingqueen121 · 03/02/2022 14:46

Welcome all newcomers and well done on the losses everyone.

Amazing @TheRealHousewife, definitely more satisfying than seeing the numbers on the scales go down. I've a few pair of jeans I'm itching to get in to again.

My run didn't go well yesterday I went over on my ankle and hit the deck. Today I have an achey ankle and a bruised and cut up knee, so no work out yesterday and nothing for me today. I'm hoping tomorrow I'll be able to go out for a gentle jog and I will restart t25 week 2 Sunday if up to it. I'm so annoyed, there always seems to be something to get in the way of exercise.
Have you tried devils claw for your aches @SunshineCake1? I swear by it.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo, I'm on week 3 of c25k and this year I am going to complete it, nothing is going to stop me.

Keep on fighting through everyone, we can do this.

ImALittlePea · 03/02/2022 14:47

Ooh that does look nice @Crazzzycat! I don't think I have all of the ingredients but a variation of that might be a goer!

Thearex · 03/02/2022 14:48

Hello- would you mind if I joined you all.

I have quite a bit to go, and started on Feb 1st. Plan is to calorie count & gradually start to increase exercise. I'm tracking everything on the Samsung app, and journaling in a bid to keep on track. Hoping to drop 1.5-2lb per week, slow and steady.
