I lost 10lb at the back end of last year… weighed myself this morning and I’ve put on just over 8lb over Christmas! I don’t even feel like I overate that much. I blame the baileys.

Anyway, today is a new start, going to get that weight back off and lose another stone on top.

MFP is my friend again and today shall be somewhat of a fasting day as I’ve got so much to do and feel horribly bloated.
Day 4 of no alcohol, going to keep that going for as long as possible as it’s empty calories and my evening wine was becoming far too much.

SW - 10st 8.8lb
GW - 9st

Goal weight for now is back to 10st.

Feel free to join or at least wish me luck 😬

Thank you 😊 can't sleep tonight as too hungry so not too sure about the great willpower or how long it will last tbh.....

KimmyKimdoo · 06/01/2022 09:07

@MrsHippopotamus Ah there are so many things it does help with. I’ve been coeliac my whole life I think. Diagnosed aged 5 so I’ve just grown up with “odd” eating habits. I’m quite healthy I think generally but trying to kick dairy now too as it just makes me feel horrible and that’s really hard!!! Missing my cheese - will have some but just keep it to a weekend treat and eliminate in mon-fri if that makes sense.

MrsHippopotamus · 06/01/2022 10:04

@KimmyKimdoo it was a hard change for me, I found it very frustrating at the beginning. I’m kinda used to it now, and like I say, I try to look on the bright side. I can no longer just shove a kinder bueno in my mouth because my body will reject it! 😆 so it certainly helps with the diet. I’d say I eat much better than I did before.

And with the abundance of takeaway food now available, I’m pretty glad I can’t eat any of it!

I’ve read that coeliac and lactose intolerance can sometimes go hand in hand. Have you tried lactose free versions rather than cutting out dairy?
I feel for you, having diet restrictions is bloody hard.

On my second coffee so far, 30 minute walk done. Bought some fruit for snacking. Trying to think positive today, got my meals planned. Good luck everyone 👍

Yes I think it is the lactose that causes the issue as I’ve had lactose free milk and not felt anything at all. I can buy vegan chocolate which is lovely but cheese is hard!! I’ll keep trying as many cheeses as I can find but so far I find that vegan cheese is awful!! I buy dairy free yoghurts though which are delicious actually. There are ways around things and yes it tends to work out a bit healthier maybe than most overall. I do love a takeaway treat but am really funny about where and what I have - have my favourites that I know and trust and do not go anywhere else ha!!!

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/01/2022 15:10

Expected a bit of weight loss after not having any takeaways for a few months but no! Grrr.

Switching from weetabix drinks to brown bread toast. Hoping this works better.

KimmyKimdoo · 06/01/2022 19:22

Right day two of eating going well (so far) but I’m feeling tired and not done my exercise I want to do in the evenings. Does everyone else find they have no energy when they first change their foods? I need to still with it a little bit and see what happens. Also I’ve stopped coffee and that’s killing me!!!

Today’s dinner is roast chicken in lemon and thyme with green lentils and lots of carrots. Was out this evening so didn’t get my after school supper - may treat myself after dinner to yoghurt 😅

Wednesdayafternoon · 06/01/2022 20:07

So I had some chocolate today which I'm disappointed with but I've also had a really bad headache and poorly baby so yes a little set back but I just needed it and it's not the worst case scenario!

Does anyone fast in the morning to have a late breakfast? Does this actually work? I'd never give my breakfast up but wonder if fasting from tea until late breakfast will do anything 🤷🏼‍♀️

SingaporeSlinky · 06/01/2022 21:40

Hello, can I join you?
I joined a couple of ‘half a stone off this month’ threads a few years back and managed to lose over a stone in the end. Of course I’ve gained it all back on again. I’ve got a holiday booked for Easter and need to get it back off again!
Just weighed myself at 10st 7 and would like to get down to under 10st.

My biggest downfall is snacking on crisps and chocolate. But I found last time I did manage to go cold turkey on it, and that’s the only way I found I could do it.

MrsHippopotamus · 06/01/2022 22:22

Not too bad a day today… not great, but ok.
Had porridge quite late in the morning and that saw me through until dinner as I was busy this afternoon.

Had a few too many snacks sneaking in though… would’ve loved a glass of wine this evening but had a crunchie with a cuppa instead.

Welcome @SingaporeSlinky ! You also have a similar starting and goal weight!
Is it me or does it seem harder when there’s only a stone or so to lose? Need to get my head in the game properly.
I think I need to go cold turkey on the snacks for a few days too.

God I hate new year dieting. Any other time of year I manage to get stuck into it but there’s something about January that’s just bloody miserable!

@Wednesdayafternoon hope your baby is feeling better! There’s few things more stressful than poorly LO’s!

Let’s all smash it tomorrow 👍

10st 6.6 this morning! Pleased with that. Will be very glad to get back down to 10st.

Haven’t planned my meals yet today so need to be sensible and have actual meals rather than snacks 😬

Nice one, enjoy!

Just weighed now and bang on 16 stone. Bit shocked as ate very healthy last couple of days and had a lot more sleep. Feel a bit lighter though and a lot less bloated so will keep going and check again in a few days.

SingaporeSlinky · 07/01/2022 12:26

Hi, not a great start to the day. I don’t know what it is about snacking, I have to have zero snacks in the house. If they’re here, I’ll eat them! Once I get going, and get past the first few days of tummy rumbling at bedtime, I find it much easier. This morning I foolishly told myself I’d just eat one biscuit, but had 4, then some crisps. Then I thought what was the point? I shovel them, so not even like I mindfully ate them and enjoyed them.
Big bowl of raspberries, strawberries and blueberries for lunch to try and compensate, and a massive mug of green tea. Will try harder. I know I can do this!

Campervan69 · 07/01/2022 13:14

Weighed in this morning at 11 stone 11 lbs which is astounding tbh. That's 5 days of Cambridge. 9lbs off. Must be a lot of chocolate water going i think. This is my usual weight for starting a diet so the hard bit starts now.

SingaporeSlinky · 07/01/2022 16:14

Wow that’s a great start!

I always find the first week the hardest, then once I’m into the routine, and especially once the scales start shifting, that’s motivation enough for me. I just need to get the first bit done!

KimmyKimdoo · 07/01/2022 16:26

Well done everyone!!! @SingaporeSlinky I agree that sorting out the snacking is the hardest thing!!! I’m also finding hard not to have hot milky drinks every hour or so. It’s such a bad habit. Today it’s been:

  • One toasted gf waffle, raspberries, hot water and fresh mint leaves.
  • half a jacket potato with tuna Mayo (at a catered work event - this was the best of the options)
  • now snacking on a few gf crackers with pâté and a pear.

-later will be smoked mackerel, spinach and green beans

I’ve done yoga this morning but I want to start running my in the evenings too. Will try that once I’m more used to the eating and drinking!!! I’m easily drinking more water though.

SingaporeSlinky · 07/01/2022 18:04

Kimmy yes, the sugary, milky coffees are getting me too. I have switched one or two a day to a green tea, which is still quite satisfying because it’s hot and I quite like the taste. When I lost weight last time I was logging everything on MFP and the calories quickly added up.

Anyone got any tips to share?

I religiously logged every single thing I ate and drank on MFP last time, not doing that this time so far, I feel like I know what to avoid, but certainly recommend it.

I do weigh myself every day, although it’s not recommended. I find it helps to see an average and keep me motivated. I usually get serious cravings right before my period, so just go with it and don’t torture myself. I also put on a few pounds of water weight.

Wednesdayafternoon · 08/01/2022 21:52

Omg having an awful weekend! It was my sons birthday yesterday and we're having a tea party tomorrow so i don't plan on being a diet until Monday because I just want to enjoy his weekend ♥️
See you all then! Hope you're all feeling well xx

MrsHippopotamus · 08/01/2022 23:28

I’m not having the greatest weekend either!!
I’m doing dry January and have missed my glass of wine this weekend… I seem to have replaced it with sugary snacks! 😫

Haven’t overeaten much today but did have a supermarket curry for dinner followed by some chocolate ice cream while watching a film.
I haven’t even bothered logging it.

Haven’t got any majorly calorific food planned for tomorrow but will reset for Monday and start logging MFP properly again.
I’ve realised it’s still far too cold for salads so will have a good think about my meal plan for the rest of the week.

I'm eating brown bead / toast with butter when I feel a binge coming along. Seems to be helping. Should know more in a few days.

Wednesdayafternoon · 10/01/2022 08:49

Happy Monday all!

How's everyone feeling? Any weigh ins today?
I weighed myself and I'm 10st10... ahhh! But it's been a naughty weekend with my sons birthday celebrations so I'm not bothered.
I've had special k for breakfast and I'm gonna kick start with the special k diet for 2 weeks (I said this last week but yeah didn't happen). I'm also going to try and drink as much water as possible as I can tell I'm feeling a bit dehydrated! Hoping I can shed a good few pounds this week! I need it!!

TalkToTheHand123 · 10/01/2022 09:16

Regretting eating pasties and sausage rolls yesterday. Hopefully I've learned my lesson and can get back on track. Drinking different flavoured tea and tomatoe soup should keep me hydrated as keep forgetting to drink water.

Campervan69 · 10/01/2022 09:45

Morning all. My weight loss on The New You diet has been astounding tbh. Having said that I've never managed to stick to anything before so maybe that's had an effect. Weighed in last Monday at 12 stone 6lbs. This morning I am 11 stone 9lbs. So 11lbs off the first week. I know it will slow down now but so pleased and motivated. Hope others are feeling similarly motivated this rainy January morning.

MrsHippopotamus · 10/01/2022 10:03

@Campervan69 what an amazing loss! I bet that will keep you motivated Grin

Right, it’s a fresh start! I think we all wavered over the weekend but we can draw a line under it and focus

Been for my long walk, going to do some strength exercises on apple fitness today and restart c25k on the treadmill tomorrow.

I think that’s the key to my dieting. As much as I hate exercising, (and I mean, I really loathe it), it really keeps me in check with what I’m eating.
When I realise how much exercise it takes to burn off a bag of crisps it really makes me think twice about eating it.

Bought more salad this morning. I know I said it’s too cold for salads but I realised I’ve got some meat and things that need using up and I don’t want to end up eating plates of mash & Yorkshire puddings with it so salad it is!

Anyway, enough of my rambling, let’s have a good Monday everyone. My jeans & coat are feeling tight so I need to drop these pounds!

@SingaporeSlinky and @MrsHippopotamus - late starter to the thread - but I also weigh in at 10 stone 7 lbs and ideally would like to be back at 9 stone 7 lbs (where I was at the beginning of November - started on a box of chocolate florentines and didn't look back...)

I also have a tendency for I end up face down in a bag of crisps behaviour. The only way for me is to cut out carbs completely - which is hard but I've done it before. I used to weigh in at 12 stone 7 lbs a couple of years ago, and managed to lose it all and keep it off for 2,5 years (until now obvs)

So this is my first week, and trying not to eat until lunchtime for first couple of weeks. Have had a coffee with double cream in though...

anotherbrewplease · 10/01/2022 10:08

Cross post - yes yes to start off a new week and stick to it! Those jeans can be a lot looser in a week from now!
