I lost 10lb at the back end of last year… weighed myself this morning and I’ve put on just over 8lb over Christmas! I don’t even feel like I overate that much. I blame the baileys.

Anyway, today is a new start, going to get that weight back off and lose another stone on top.

MFP is my friend again and today shall be somewhat of a fasting day as I’ve got so much to do and feel horribly bloated.
Day 4 of no alcohol, going to keep that going for as long as possible as it’s empty calories and my evening wine was becoming far too much.

SW - 10st 8.8lb
GW - 9st

Goal weight for now is back to 10st.

Feel free to join or at least wish me luck 😬

Oh that’s rubbish MrsH hope they’re better soon! It’s not pointless, you’ve been losing weight, and I’m sure you can carry on, it’s got to be a long term change, so slowly changing habits will help you in the long run.
Those muffins sound delicious, I’ve been meaning to make something like that and I love spring onions. I’ll give it a go.

From everything I’ve read, it’s 80% food rather than exercise, so don’t worry too much about exercising, especially if you’re stuck at home looking after the kids. I did 30 mins on the cross trainer this morning and at the end it said I’d burned 190 cals. That’s not even a kitkat! So it really is about calories going in, in the first place.

You’ll get there! Just keep going.

Wednesdayafternoon · 10/02/2022 11:38

@MrsHippopotamus ohhh what quantities do you use for your muffins?
D&V NOOOOOO!!! Literally my WORST nightmare. I have a major sick phobia, I really hope you're ok. My boys both caught 2 tummy bugs EACH in December it was bloody awful.
Don't feel bad though, sometimes life just happens and even if the loss has stalled you're not gaining and if you hadn't made any effort you could well have gained!

Hope you keep well xxx

SingaporeSlinky · 10/02/2022 14:28

How are you doing @Wednesdayafternoon? Is your weight still fluctuating?
I’ve got a night out planned next week, but I’ve said I’ll enjoy the food, but not drink, because that will really ruin the calories. Everyone has been saying one night won’t hurt, but if I go too mad, it’ll undo the rest of the week and I would hate that. I’ve been to the gym 4 times this week (which was my goal) and I’ve actually booked on another spin class tomorrow too.

You asked about half term, to be honest it shouldn’t be any different for me. I’ve been having mostly the same dinners as the kids anyway, it’s the rest of the day that’s different. I’ve been alternating between scrambled eggs / porridge / yoghurt with granola so I’ll keep doing that. We don’t have any plans really, although in-laws are visiting for a few days. I’m going to make them my homemade quiche. We might have a Chinese takeaway one night, but I’ll just maybe split my meal and save some for another day, I quite like cold chicken chow mein the next day 🙂
If we go out anywhere I’ll just stick to my plan, it just means I can’t go to the gym.

Wednesdayafternoon · 10/02/2022 19:58

@SingaporeSlinky awww amazing you're so in the down!
Do you notice any difference with your clothes or in the mirror yet?
I've had a really good week this week but this afternoon has not gone well. Tbh I've felt really run down after my son has had a really bad few nights so it's ok, made my food plan for tomorrow so I'll get back on it!
I'm just gonna have a Cornetto and enjoy an episode of satc tonight because I just feel like I need it!

Hope you've all had a good day xx

Wednesdayafternoon · 10/02/2022 20:12

*in the zone!!!!

SingaporeSlinky · 10/02/2022 20:45

Aw enjoy your cornetto! I love those.
That’s the thing isn’t it, as long as you get back on it, you’re still making progress, you’ll still be healthier overall, and you can still enjoy little treats when you need them.

I haven’t really noticed in the clothes, but I can feel my hips and thighs are smaller, just like in the shower and stuff. Still working on the tummy!

SingaporeSlinky · 13/02/2022 11:05

Morning all, this thread seems to have gone very quiet, I hope everyone is still plodding along!

Weighing in at 9st 11, total 10lbs down since 7th Jan.

I went to the gym 5 days last week including 2 spin classes, a ‘legs, bums and tums’ and a ‘pump’ class.

Aiming for 3 this week as I’ve got a few things on.

Have a good week ahead everyone that’s still reading!

MrsHippopotamus · 13/02/2022 13:21

@SingaporeSlinky I’m still here! Feel like a bit of a fraud still being on this thread, you’re putting me to shame 😆 you are doing amazing, well done!

I’m still plodding on, I seem to have caught the kids bug. No puking, thank god, but the nausea is unreal 🤢 so I just can’t stand the sight of any food right now. Let’s hope the silver lining is I’ll be a couple of lbs lighter on weigh day 😬

I'm still here too but this week has been awful! My sons have been really run down and I'm not feeling great either so I have been eating everything 🙈
Starting again tomorrow!

Hope you're ok @MrsHippopotamus

And massive congratulations @SingaporeSlinky !!

MrsHippopotamus · 13/02/2022 21:10

Oh no @Wednesdayafternoon 😫 hope you’ll all be back on your feet soon. Here’s to a better week 🥂🤞

We’ll get there! Just need to keep going and get over these (seemingly constant) setbacks.

MrsHippopotamus · 14/02/2022 10:01

Still stuck at 10st 2
That hardly seems fair seeing as I barely ate all weekend 😐
Far too much information coming but I haven’t been to the loo in a while so I’m hoping it’s that 😆
I’d be over the moon to get to bang on 10st this time next week. Doesn’t seem likely but I can try!

Still feeling a bit iffy so won’t be eating much today. Although I have just bought ingredients to make a cottage pie. Will have a small portion of that later if I’m up for it. It’s all homemade and not too calorific.
Hope we all have a good start to the week!

@MrsHippopotamus ahhh 10stone 2 is a stalling point for me too :( but I'm expecting I'm well over that. Tbh I'm not weighing myself because it won't be an accurate representation of my weight with my binge over the weekend so gonna leave it a few days! I'm got my mind set today though that I'm back on track :)
I'm with you in the toilet issue though.... I am eating so healthy and such varied foods everyday I don't get it!
Hope you feel better today lovely

SingaporeSlinky · 14/02/2022 11:24

Thank you both, and sorry you both had rubbish weeks last week with various illnesses in the family etc.
Hopefully this week will be better.
Yes I think if your eating has been all over the place, the scales won’t be accurate as you could be retaining water etc.
Also with you on the toilet issue. I don’t think my diet has ever been healthier, but I seem to be going twice a week now which doesn’t seem right. Partly it’ll be due to me just having a lot less food now, but I feel like my fibre intake should be ok. Maybe I need to drink more water, but I’m just not thirsty when it’s cold.

Did a legs, bums and tums class this morning, then 30 mins on the cross trainer. Just hit my 10,000 steps, and still got my weekly food shop to do.

Breakfast was yoghurt, granola, chia, flax, goji berries and coffee. Lunch will be a banana and green tea. Dinner is chicken stir fry with brown rice noodles. Logged it all under 1,000 cals.

Good luck for the week!

Wednesdayafternoon · 14/02/2022 12:26

Aww I'm so jelous of your gym visits @SingaporeSlinky ! I used to go to the gym like 5 times a week too, it was such a big part of my personality and life, loved it! But I just dont have the time now. Hopefully in the spring months I can do more walking etc and then as the boys get older I can rejoin :)
Have you lowered your calorie intake to 1000 now?
I've had over night oats with strawberry and blue berry for breakfast, chicken veg and a boiled egg for dinner and then bolognese for tea with a cup of tea, mint hot chocolate and fibre bar for snacks. Just under 1200 kncals and all nutrition on track according to MFP! ☺️

SingaporeSlinky · 14/02/2022 14:11

Weds no I’m still aiming for 1200 or under, but today it came in at 973 so I won’t add anything to make it up. This morning the scales were 9st 12 and that’s the first time since I started that they’ve gone back up. I had crisps with lunch yesterday for the first time in weeks, and also some sourdough baguette, which were both delicious, but maybe the salt or sugar didn’t help. I stayed at around 1300 both weekend days, but want to get those numbers shifting down again, so will be extra good this week.

I am getting worried about how I’ll maintain my final weight goal, because I’m going to the gym a lot, and eating not a lot 😩

I’m lucky I can go to the gym so much, I was planning just 3 times this week but actually I can fit it around other things I’ve got on, so I’ll still go tomorrow. It’s just Friday I can’t really make it.

Your meal for today sounds yummy!

SingaporeSlinky · 14/02/2022 14:12

I know what you mean about maintaining it. I was on the move past 10stone 2 last week but had a bad day with colds so had a penguin and some toast and I put a pound on! I know it can't have been genuine weight and if I'd gone back to plan then it would've settled but it just made me feel like there's no margin for error on this plan unlike with slimming world etc. I think maintaining it will just be by accepting a couple pounds grievence and having a good balence between good and not so good days!
SingaporeSlinky · 14/02/2022 15:18

I don’t really know anything about SW but I imagine any plan will be the same, if you eat chocolate or salty foods, you’re going to see it in water weight the next day. But I agree, a few pounds up and down is fine, as long as it’s not constantly going up. Like you say, I know I can’t have actually gained a pound of fat in one day. Hopefully tomorrow it’ll be down again.
But seriously, what do people eat if they’re maintaining 9st, for example?

Wednesdayafternoon · 14/02/2022 15:41

@SingaporeSlinky I think what I like more about CC is that you get to eat different types of food within your allowance but with SW you definitely get to eat a lot more so I do feel I'm fluctuating ALOT more at the minute!
But I am enjoying the freedom with this diet so I'm feeling good 🥰

SingaporeSlinky · 16/02/2022 12:29

Hi all, back down to 9st 11 again today so I’m happy with that.
I’ve upped my efforts at the gym this week. Body tone class this morning was really good.

Non Scale Victory today when I wore my new gym gear and DH asked if the leggings were ‘the ones that hold everything in’ because I looked slimmer. They aren’t, so I’ll take it as a compliment 😀
DC then agreed and said my legs look thinner. Tummy doesn’t seem to want to shift, but hopefully it’ll reduce in time.

Today’s menu
Breakfast - coffee after gym
Lunch - 3 scrambled eggs with chives
Dinner - salmon in smoky mayo and panko breadcrumbs with quinoa and pea pilaf.

SingaporeSlinky · 16/02/2022 21:32

By the way MrsH I made some egg and cheese muffins and they were delish! Thanks for mentioning them, they were also perfect in the kids packed lunch and DH thought they were really tasty and has been snacking on them.
I used leftovers really, fried up a few mushrooms, half an onion, few slices of ham and some chopped spinach, spread it out over a 12 muffin tray, then topped each one with an egg and cheddar mixture (I used 6 eggs for the 12 muffins). Baked for 30 minutes and they were yummy.

I had low calorie days planned for Mon and Tues until I made those! Luckily I had leftover cals, and also had a square of chocolate from the Hotel Chocolat slabs I bought DH for Valentine’s Day. So the days ended up at 1168 and 1269. Still on plan, luckily. And can’t believe I stopped myself at just one square of chocolate both evenings.

Total today was 938 cals.

Hoping to shift another pound by the end of the week.

MrsHippopotamus · 17/02/2022 09:47

Slinky they’re great aren’t they? Such a tasty low cal, protein full snack! Or even a meal if you stick a load of salad next to them.
You’ve been doing fantastic! Well done on the chocolate restraint 😆

Getting back to my old self now. Feel like I’ve been constantly poorly since Xmas! Haven’t overeaten this week at all but I must admit I’ve not been logging. Still weighing everyday and weight is bouncing between 10st 2 and 10st 3 😫 but it could be worse I suppose.

The house is pretty low on food atm and I don’t want to go shopping until the weekend. Today shall be soup for lunch. Perhaps egg on toast or something for dinner. I’m not particularly thinking about food atm and I can’t be bothered to plan anything fancier.

Hope everyone has a good day. I’m very aware I’m not doing great atm but I’m going to keep trying 😄

@MrsHippopotamus you are doing well lively because even though you've not lost you've not really gained! So keep positive 🥰

@SingaporeSlinky yay isn't it amazing when you start to notice the loss!

Tbh I'm not too sure how I feel about calorie counting atm. I have lost but I've noticed that when o have a day off or a treat meal or something the weight piles back on. I know this isn't always water water which is fine and I accept but at the same time it's not coming back off like it has in the past when it's water etc. I'm starting to wonder if my loss is more because of the fact that I'm eating so little and more that I've not got much in me compared to actually loosing weight. I know you're all probably thinking I should scrap having a day off or treat in the week but this has always really worked for me. I am a comfort eater and I just need a little break. Normally within 1 or 2 days I'm back on track but not at the moment. I just feel like I'm not eating enough, I want to eat more fruit and veg etc... I dunno im just not feel great atm and it's starting to make me feel down because I just t really feel like im getting anywhere and im wondering if what im doing is actually sustainable 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsHippopotamus · 17/02/2022 12:35

Thanks @Wednesdayafternoon you’re right, at least I haven’t gained! I need to make sure I keep weighing myself though. When I stick my head in the sand and put the scales away then I just seem to go mad and gain a stone 🙈 definitely don’t want that to happen.

I know how you feel with the calorie counting. Although I’m a huge advocate for it because it works, sometimes it’s just such a faff. And you really need to be in the right head space for it.
How many calories do you allow a day?
I was on 1200 for a few months… it works. But then my hair fell out and I just generally looked a bit shit. So I upped my cals to 1600… amazingly I still lost weight at the same rate I did at the lower cals! I have no idea how or why, but I still lost at around 1-2lbs a week.
I was working out and doing at least 10,000 steps a day though.

Maybe up your cals for a couple of weeks and see if you can get away with it? You won’t feel so deprived then. Obviously you’d have to keep an eye on those cheat days because you want a nice average deficit over the week.
MFP is good for that as it tells you your daily average over the week.

@SingaporeSlinky I too love the feeling of looking better in my clothes 💃
I’ve got some lovely dresses for summer that I want to look good in… right, I feel some motivation coming back! 😬

Sorry to be such a drag on this thread. I used to follow weight loss threads and I’d always get so frustrated when one poster wouldn’t get their head in the game and just get on with it… and now I’m that person 🙈

SingaporeSlinky · 17/02/2022 12:44

Glad you’re starting to feel better MrsH I agree, at least you’re not putting any weight back on.

Weds what have you followed in the past that seemed different? If it’s not working, then try something else, just don’t give up! I know what you mean about treats, but I think the trick is to really limit them, so don’t go mad at the weekend and have 2500 cals, because it will really affect your weekly average. I try and really save my treats for things I enjoy, but just one pudding, or one bar of chocolate, not a whole day or whole weekend of treats. I’m sort of learning to be satisfied with smaller treats too. So the other week my DH had a stuffed crust pepperoni pizza, and I had one slice (so an 1/8th of the pizza) and I really enjoyed it, but had a salad with it. The calories on the box were insane, but I honestly felt satisfied with the one slice, because I didn’t feel like I’d missed out. But if I’d eaten half the pizza, I’d have felt bloated, had too many carbs etc.

It does need to be sustainable, you’re right. We know how easily the scales can shift back upwards. Honestly I’m at a point where I can see myself carrying on with everything I’m doing. I’ve got so much more energy, I’m enjoying finding new recipes, new ingredients, cooking from scratch more. I don’t feel deprived of anything. I enjoy my lunches, but if you feel like you’re eating rabbit food, you’re not going to carry on.

My go-to after the gym is a coffee, then Greek or natural bio yoghurt with berries and granola, usually adding flax and chia seeds. I know I keep banging on about it, but it’s so tasty and filling, and so good for you! That honestly fills me up until around 3pm, then I have a green tea. Then I look forward to dinner, which can almost be whatever I want, because I’ve got loads of calories left in my 1200. Yesterday I tried a new dish and it was so nice, I’ll definitely make it again, and it was around 500 cals. But I’m learning so much about what foods are healthiest, I think it was the first time I’d ever had quinoa but I’ll definitely look up more recipes.

What’s a typical day’s food for you now? Maybe we can help reset.
