Hello & Welcome

WOW 😯 This year has passed far too quickly and December and the festive season is all of a sudden upon us with about a 4wk countdown to 2022. Don’t panic, this isn’t a quick fix promotion; it’s more a slow & sustained way of eating. There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

I for one want to start the brand New Year feeling fit, healthy & vibrant with hope that we are all in for a better year! Eating right, getting outside, moving more will all aid in bolstering up your immune system and promote positive mental health.

I’m not one to be a Ba Humbug about festive treats and mulled wine but I do remain mindful about my choices without undue deprivation. Life’s for living and we’ve had too much of that taken away over the last 2 years not to embrace the family & friends celebrations.

Come and join us. On these threads I find members are supportive and inspiring in equal measures. We offer guidance, support and a bit of handholding. Share as much or as little as you want.

Official weigh day is Wednesday aka WOW but it’s not compulsory. Currently I weigh a couple of times a week but at others I’ve weighed daily. Do whatever suits you.

Jump on board, this time next week/month/year you’ll be glad you did. What are you going to change? What are your goals? How do you intend to do it?

Good Morning

I'm feeling much better but not 100%.

Still can't open web based mn on iPad so on app which I'm finding difficult to navigate. Views are so limited ... for example I can only see what I'm typing and not previous posts so can't read/reply until I'm done typing.

Hoping to catch up on thread today (will fire up lap top at some point) and read all about your progresses. I'm sure you're all doing great (if threads still active).

Still feel like death warmed up and not feeling festive in the least. Hoping this changes in the coming days. All my jobs needs doing in the home, not finished trimming up (doubt I will tbh) and need to wrap gifts/write cards. Going to write a list ... I love a good list ✍️

On the plus side my jeans are looser Grin

Sending warm wishes to you all Xmas Smile

Glad you're feeling better @TheRealHousewife

@buzzofthebumblebee I hear you!! I lost my mum last year and when her anniversary came around, it filled me with dread but I was OK, lots of crying, thinking of good times and hugs from my family helped, its OK to be sad and let yourself feel it. ❤

I haven't been on here much as I'm trying to not spend so much time on my phone!! I moan there aren't enough hours in the day then every Monday my phone tells I spent about 4 hours a day on my phone last week!! That's shocking and awful!

I went bootcamp yesterday and swimming today, it's nice to be back in to the swing of things. I haven't weighed myself for over a week now and I happy to stay off the scales at least til next Wednesday so I can keep a check on myself over Xmas. I still have bought any Xmas treats and no one seems to be missing any of it! Still not had a mince pie yet 😀

Crazzzycat · 16/12/2021 14:49

I’m with you on trying to kick the phone habit @Youdoyoutoday. It’s the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do at night. I don’t even dare to look at my usage stats. I bet they’re shocking…This week I’m focussing on just breaking the habit in the morning. That’s hard enough!

Not much to report here on the diet front. I’ve made it to the middle of the month without eating a single Christmas treat, so that’s better than expected. Next week will undoubtedly be more of a challenge though.

Youdoyoutoday · 16/12/2021 15:00

@Crazzzycat my phone just tells me in a rather judgemental way! Every Monday a little notification pops up "look how much time you spent in your phone last week!" 🙄

Crazzzycat · 16/12/2021 15:36

Mine would do that too @Youdoyoutoday, but I switched off the notifications. I can’t deal with coming face to face with that reality! 😂

SunshineCake1 · 16/12/2021 16:50

A walk is a walk @Pickles89 and an hour is a good amount.

Mindful of @buzzofthebumblebee's comment I will try and post more.
Sorry to hear you are struggling. If you aren't eating your feelings you are doing great. Keep going. You've done so well.

@TheRealHousewife how are you feeling? Glad your jeans feel looser.

Hi @Youdoyoutoday well done on the boot camp and resisting goodies. I have bought so many but we will make them last.

I'm sorry I am so quiet. I am busier but also don't want to just moan. I am worried about dh who appears to have flu but who knows. Two negative LF tests so far. I'm a little under then weather and have received my text regarding my referral so should get my ultrasound next week and see someone at the hospital before the end of the year.

Youdoyoutoday · 16/12/2021 17:00

Good news about your referral @SunshineCake1

My new years resolution is to definitely spend less time on my phone and move more. Its all very well and good going off bootcamp and swimming but I feel like sometimes I just come home and then do nothing and sit on my phone. I'd like to get out more with DD rather than sitting indoors all day and I'd like to get those pesky jobs around the house done too, I'm very good at making lists but useless at actually doing the crap that I actually want done. All down to getting carried away with being on my phone!

SunshineCake1 · 16/12/2021 17:20

I don't see it as good news tbh. I knew it was coming but the fact it is under the two week protocol, plus with the GP being worried, I am feeling a bit like I don't know what to do really. I fully expected to be told it was due to X and all was okay but I wasn't and it might not be. I appreciate your thoughts though Flowers @Youdoyoutoday

buzzofthebumblebee · 16/12/2021 20:05

Thank you for kind wishes you. Plenty of tears already! When mine were small I would make sure I was out at least once, if not twice a day, for my own sanity. But a much better day today thx.

Everything crossed for your scan Sunshine. A worry until you find out - and sorry to hear your DH and you are now feeling under-the-weather.

Well done on the restraint Crazzy !! I'm laying off mince pies completely. Far too many calories to justify the taste!

TheReal - glad you are on the mend. Hope you feel yourself again soon.

Leftover salmon & roast veg & brown/wild rice for dinner. Salad for lunch and blueberries yoghurt & seeds for breakfast. A good day.

Pickles89 · 16/12/2021 20:36

I've not stopped eating today, and most of it carbs!

Breakfast: sachet of porridge made with juice, banana, cereal bar
Lunch: Pasta with peas and butter
Snack: Yoghurt and cereal bar
Dinner: Slice of avocado, whole pointy pepper, sachet of Mexican rice, 2 folded flatbreads, babybel, raspberries, yoghurt, fibre one bar

One walk, about an hour. Tomorrow is another day I guess!

Youdoyoutoday · 16/12/2021 22:45

@Pickles89 we all have those days, it's how you deal with it tomorrow that counts.
Chin up girl, you'll be alright x

DownUdderer · 17/12/2021 01:15

I have forgotten to weigh in twice in a row now. I prefer to weigh in first thing in the morning before eating or drinking, but if I forget and have breakfast then I don't weigh in.

I've never tried a mince pie.

I think I'm going along ok with food choices.

Gosh, my brain is mashed. I can't think straight at the moment.

buzzofthebumblebee · 17/12/2021 09:31

Nothing to report. Didn't get on the scales this morning (as feared it might have gone up!). Nice day here. Meeting friend for a coffee out which will be very nice. Out of the habit! I will stick to coffee though, and no pastry. Can't believe a week today is Christmas Eve. Doesn't feel very wintery, but that is set to change. Have a good day all.

Crazzzycat · 17/12/2021 09:56

I started today with a quick row! I’m only going for 10 minutes at a time, because I want to get my technique right first, but it certainly wakes you up. I’m also secretly super excited that I can row 2000 metres faster than my DH who is much taller than me. I think all the time spent on the X-trainer this year has given me a bit of an advantage 💪

Tomorrow we’ll be having a small party and I’m torn between having smaller portion sizes and just forgetting about the diet. Most likely I’ll start off with good intentions and lose them half way through the evening 😂 Whatever happens though, I’m determined not to feel guilty about it. It’s only one day out of many.

I hope you’re all doing as well as can be expected with all the things that are going on in your lives. I’m thinking of you @SunshineCake1. I hope you get that appointment superfast. Also hugs to all of you who will be missing people this X-mas. It’s shit.

murmuration · 17/12/2021 10:30

Sorry to hear so many are struggling. Sending you good wishes Sunshine.

Work has been really overwhelming and I'm definitely overdoing it - I was in a lot of pain last night. I not quite sure how to manage, just trying to keep resting when I do have my down times and finish what I need. DH is now in the US - his flight out was cancelled so he got there late; just hoping there are no such issues on the return next week (or any positive covid!!!) so he gets back before Christmas fine.

I've been finding myself slipping into the "things are tough, I deserve to eat this" thinking - I need to stop that, and think I deserve nice tea, or to feel good about weight loss or something instead. A bit too many lindt balls this last week. All the Christmas treats all over don't help!

MyAnacondaMight · 17/12/2021 11:04

This time of year is really tough. Hang on in there everyone.

I’ve got my week 6 weigh in tomorrow and hoping to have maintained. I’ve been doing ok this week, fitting in the odd festive treat within my goals, but haven’t exercised at all. When calorie counting I’ve realised how much extra I ate/drank as extras - the regular half bottle of wine, pre dinner snack etc. If anything I’m surprised I don’t weigh more!

SunshineCake1 · 17/12/2021 12:25

Thank you @buzzofthebumblebee. DH and I took tests even though we don't think we have covid but wanted to rule it out as DS1 is coming home today. Both negative. He is feeling a bit better. I am having back and stomach pain and feeling nauseous. I've also got my appointment which is on the 23rd. Feeling a bit eek as knew I would be having a scan but I'm having an exam too and a biopsy. Hope you have a good day and a nice time with your friend.

I'm out of the routine of weighing in too @DownUdderer. Might wait until Wednesday now or at least after my next run. I ran yesterday but not today as felt sick. I did walk the dog for an hour and half though.

@Crazzzycat I would have what I wanted at the party but make good choices. I wouldn't waste calories on something that isn't amazing.

Thank you @murmuration. I hope your dh gets back ok and virus free. Things are tough but don't sabotage your good work with an unhelpful reward. Make your reward a bath, time to read, a really nice item of food. Not wasted calories. You can do this.

Pickles89 · 17/12/2021 20:34

Lunch: 'Plant based Festive wrap', pop chips
Snack: Yoghurt and raspberries, fibre one bar
Dinner: 3 mini wraps, whole tub guacamole, large pointy pepper, few handfuls grated cheese, glass of juice, fibre one bar

Only one official walk today, and it was short, but lots of general rushing around which probably counts!!

buzzofthebumblebee · 18/12/2021 09:01

Morning everyone. 1 week til Christmas Day. So much to do. Why is it so crazy? I'm tired and grumpy, stressed and irritable. Resentful that every year it's the same. Christmas seems to fall to me. Arrragggghhh!! I probably need to run today, but already showered and dressed, ready to go for Covid booster in a bit.

But on the plus side, the scales are showing a 2lb drop. Down to 11 5. So I have officially lost 25 lbs since 1st Sept.

Hope everyone else fairing better today. Sorry for the moan.

DownUdderer · 18/12/2021 09:32

I didn't remember to weigh this morning! But we had sunshine and we made it to the beach. Being slimmer than Nov 1st (the date I started dieting/watching my bad food choices) is so nice. Wearing my swim suit and feeling good in it was a pleasure.

TalkToTheHand123 · 18/12/2021 09:46

Weighed myself today and 2lbs less than my fixed lockdown weight. Not sure if it's just part of my usual yoyo or if I'm doing something right. I'll be suprised if I can maintain it, but I won't ever give up trying. I'll weigh myself again in the new year to find out if I'm doing something right.

132orbust · 18/12/2021 09:57

Drum roll please.....
Well it has taken 11 days (11 bloody days for 0.75lb!!) but I have finally made it:
SW:151
CW:132
GW:132
It is the week before Christmas and I know I'll go up a bit (not tooooo much I hope) between now and 4th Jan.
To keep me motivated I will name change later today to 129orbust as that will be my next goal. I feel I have a few more pounds still to lose though I'm thinking it may be July by the time I get there!
Sorry I have not checked in as I should, life has been hectic and I just need one more thing to happen and I can relax a bit.
Thanks for your support on this long journey

132orbust · 18/12/2021 10:26

I have just read back on all I have missed and my chums Flowers for you all.
@DownUdderer my heart goes out to you. The one thing I was referring to in my post above is my parents arriving - hugs for you.
Darling @SunshineCake1 what a time you are having so hugs for you too.
@Crazzzycat I thought you had a fight with someone to start your day - glad it was a healthy bit of exercise instead.
@TheRealHousewife and anyone else feeling crook, if it was this awful super cold thing it takes a fair while to fully recover but i would say after 3.5 weeks I am now 100% again.

MyAnacondaMight · 18/12/2021 12:03

Congratulations @132orbust ! What a great achievement - well done for not giving up on that pesky 0.75lb.

Week 6 weigh in for me today:
SW: 11st 8
CW: 10st 9
TW: 10st 0lbs

Another pound off this week, so 13lbs in 6 weeks. I’m so pleased that I started this in November rather than waiting until January (by which time I would have been even bigger). Going to keep up the momentum until Christmas to see if I can make it a stone off.

SunshineCake1 · 18/12/2021 12:37

Right @buzzofthebumblebee it is time for delegation. I do the majority of Christmas but I will get others to do stuff. Dh will peel all the potatoes and carrots. DS1 makes the gravy. Someone else sets the table. DH is responsible for some presents. Dh and DS2 have put the tree and lights up. Every year I go to M&S in Christmas Eve and buy a pudding and I also buy myself some presents to say thanks for doing Christmas. Well done on your huge achievement Star.

The beach sounds lovely @DownUdderer and how wonderful you felt great in the swimsuit.

Well done @TalkToTheHand123. Keep going.

Fabulous news @132orbust I am really pleased for you!! Thank you for the hugs and the calling me Darling made me tear up Flowers.

Brilliant @MyAnacondaMight. I'm really pleased for you.

@TheRealHousewife HELLO! Hope you are okay. Keep meaning to text you but don't want to intrude if you need a break.

SW 14 stone
Best weight 10 9 then got poorly and put on a stone.
CW 11 stone 10.2
GW 10 1/2 stone for now.

I ran just over 6km this morning then walked the dog for an hour and 15 minutes. Having awful stomach pain and nauseous. DH still off and now has no taste. 3 x negative LF tests. DS1 has had to take a PCR as second flatmate tested positive. All DSs tests are negative so far. DD meant to be coming home tomorrow. Haven't heard from her for two days so no idea if she's still coming and/or negative.
