Hello & Welcome

WOW 😯 This year has passed far too quickly and December and the festive season is all of a sudden upon us with about a 4wk countdown to 2022. Don’t panic, this isn’t a quick fix promotion; it’s more a slow & sustained way of eating. There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

I for one want to start the brand New Year feeling fit, healthy & vibrant with hope that we are all in for a better year! Eating right, getting outside, moving more will all aid in bolstering up your immune system and promote positive mental health.

I’m not one to be a Ba Humbug about festive treats and mulled wine but I do remain mindful about my choices without undue deprivation. Life’s for living and we’ve had too much of that taken away over the last 2 years not to embrace the family & friends celebrations.

Come and join us. On these threads I find members are supportive and inspiring in equal measures. We offer guidance, support and a bit of handholding. Share as much or as little as you want.

Official weigh day is Wednesday aka WOW but it’s not compulsory. Currently I weigh a couple of times a week but at others I’ve weighed daily. Do whatever suits you.

Jump on board, this time next week/month/year you’ll be glad you did. What are you going to change? What are your goals? How do you intend to do it?

Thanks Sunshine for kind words. Means a lot. says she in tears

SunshineCake1 · 18/12/2021 17:33

I've got you @buzzofthebumblebee

Youdoyoutoday · 18/12/2021 19:02

Well done @132orbust!!

And look at you getting all sexy in your swimsuit @DownUdderer 😍

Great news for both of you!!

I'm currently on the sofa full as an egg as we went for the day and went to a nice Italian restaurant! I'm so full, I ache!

Graphista · 18/12/2021 22:31

I promised @SunshineCake1 I'd head here after strictly and here I am. I've not been posting as I've not been "on plan"

I've been eating "what I like" this month but not going completely mad and I have understandably gained - around 5lbs so far!

It's frightening how EASILY it goes on compared to how bloody hard it is to get off!

I've had a TERRIBLE month Mh wise not helped by my therapist and cpn apparently going awol! Among other things.

Sunshine said come for the chat if nothing else...so I'm here!

I am fully intending to get back on plan from jan 4th (i'm a Scot and Hogmanay lasts that long Grin)

At which point I am planning to aim for 1300 cals a day AND starting to regularly exercise (this is partly as my disability has been worsening too and I need to "loosen up" also I've not been doing my physio as much as I should Blush)

Hoping all of you are well and happy.

I've also not even STARTED my Xmas shopping (well apart from the food and drink!) so tomorrow I'll be hammering the credit card online as I'm waaaaay late sorting that this year.

I'm normally super organised as dds birthday is shortly after Xmas and certainly when she was little it was frankly a necessity! Both in terms of money and my energy for planning and organising celebrations! I'd learned the hard way on the money side after the first one which had ex and I well in the overdraft and living on beans on toast until Easter!

I've somehow left it very much to last min this year!

Luckily I haven't many to buy for and not many more I do cards for.

So I should be able to crack it tomorrow. Was gonna do it tonight but I'm really not in the mood.

This is a catch up post I'll try and get back in swing of thread later

Hope you're all well as possible

129orbust · 18/12/2021 23:21

Thanks everyone - note new username.
I have celebrated by getting a lovely Lebanese takeaway delivered tonight with enough food to feed us for three meals (delicious leftovers for lunch tomorrow).
DD1 is home from Uni and DD2 out babysitting again and as the former loves this restaurant and the latter hates it, it seemed like the best opportunity to indulge.
@Graphista you'll be back on it on 4th January - with the rest of us.
@SunshineCake1 you are an absolute sweetie and have had a lot of bumps in the road - here's to a smooth road in 2022 for you and the rest of us on thread.

DownUdderer · 19/12/2021 07:00

I've had a snacky weekend. I'm managing to be mostly good, then just a few snacks. But you know what I just will weigh in after Xmas day and think about being good again then.

Pickles89 · 19/12/2021 11:23

Yesterday:

Lunch: 1/3 tub houmous, mini wrap, folded flatbread, head of romaine lettuce, fibre one bar
Dinner: 3 scrambled eggs, slice of toast, 3 Linda McCartney sausages (would normally only have 2 but there were 3 in the box and they needed using!), peas

I had a short walk but very brisk with a bit of jogging thrown in.

I weighed myself this morning thinking I must have either plateaued or gained a little as I've not been very strict with myself this week, but I'm down to 11.4!! That's actually less than my original Christmas target weight! I'd like to aim for 11.2 by the 24th as that'd be a full half stone lost but I'm starting my Christmas baking now and know I'll be sneaking bits of the sugary dough left right and centre!

SunshineCake1 · 19/12/2021 13:10

Hurray! You're here @Graphista. It really is so unfair how weight goes on quicker and easier than off. Just accept what has happened and decide the best course of action for you now. I know for me some food isn't worth the fleeting moment and then the resultant hard work of getting the weight off but other times I just need whatever it is right now. Right now I am trying to focus on the fasting and missing my mid afternoon snack if I really don't need it. I'm also back to drinking
more water as that had slackened off when I was poorly.

Mentally I hope you are feeling better. I've sent a text to my therapist asking if I can start again with her but no reply.

I hope your Christmas shopping is going well. I'm also late this year as would normally have finished the present buying two weeks before I did but again, illness made that happen, and now I have everything except for some potatoes maybe. I have also discovered DS1 has opened the cured meat platter I had bought and I'm flipping livid. I told him there was lots of food in but he needed to check before opening anything. He hasn't and while I don't care about anything else it is bloody obvious a massive lack of salmi, Parma ham etc is not every fucking day food. Can you tell I'm cross???

@129orbust what is Lebanese food? I'm not sure I have ever had any. Was it as delicious as you hoped? I'm craving Indian food a lot at the moment. A couple of weeks ago I discovered something completely new in the Co-op. Don't know what it is called but it was like a soft bread roll with minced beef inside. Absolutely delicious. Thank you for your lovely words. Wednesday is when I am having my scan and biopsy .

@DownUdderer please stop being so hard on yourself. It's not about being bad. It is about making what ever choice you want and can live with. It is only food. We all need to eat. Most of us have times where we eat more than we need but so what. Sometimes it is the best option. Just make sure everything you put in your mouth you enjoy and it is worth the feeling after.

Well done @Pickles89. Keep up the good work. One small note - don't fall into the trap of eating more than you need because it needed using. If you enjoyed it, great, but I know I have often eaten stuff rather than wasted it and then felt like a dustbin. I know it comes from not being fed enough as a child though.

129orbust · 19/12/2021 16:28

@SunshineCake1
This is our local and very good - peruse the menu and drool!

Hope all goes well for you.
We are willing you on from South West London.

SunshineCake1 · 19/12/2021 16:45

That all looks delicious @129orbust. Thank you for your kind wishes. I've decided to go shopping tomorrow while DH takes the boys to deliver presents to her brother. I need something fun to do before the scary stuff.

Graphista · 19/12/2021 19:08

@129orbust that's the plan thanks

@Pickles89 well done for your unexpected loss

@SunshineCake1 bless you yes I'm here!

I too need to drink more my lips are v dry today

Slightly better mentally but could really use more support from those meant to be supporting me! This cmht have let me down massively before as you know so I'll be kicking some butts over there when things open properly again can't get through at the moment!

Some of my Xmas shopping is sorted need to sort more later have some ideas that mean I can do things electronically later in week evouchers etc

Food is sorted as it's only me (massive Xmas pud as a sub for the individual one I ordered! So I'm wondering if I can open it and cook it in portions? No microwave and no steaming equipment so I normally steam it in a Pyrex dish in the oven - put the Xmas pud with film removed in a sort of Bain Marie set up in the oven pop it in once the main meal is out as oven hot then anyway - thoughts on if I can put a portion in a ramekin in the Bain Marie?)

But I remember when dd was home this time of year "not that! It's for Christmas!" And her "so what AM I allowed to eat?!" Grin

So I get your annoyance

I've annoyed myself by over ordering fresh stuff fridge is RAMMED I'm gonna be playing fridge Jenga all week! Grin

SunshineCake1 · 19/12/2021 19:37

I would cook the whole Xmas pud then just have it as and when. Warm up some custard to help reheat the pud if you prefer it warm.

buzzofthebumblebee · 19/12/2021 20:18

I think 5lbs on is very restrained Graphista, at least by my standards ; ) I think it's OK to let gas off the pedal, with full steam ahead 4th Jan.

My Christmas shopping got blitzed on Friday, so not much earlier than you Sunshine !!! And my DS managed to eat pretty much whole tray of very fancy deserts, that were also not for everyday consumption. Only because they were there and required no prep. He would have done salami and parma ham too if it had been in the fridge ; )

Love the new name 129orbust. That food looks delicious. Well done on loss. And you too pickles.

I've never been as full as an egg you but I feel like one sometimes, although my body shape is more pear than egg to be fair.

Just had a lovely afternoon out seeing Christmas lights. A couple of shops with DC's, but 10K steps done, and just nice to be out as a family. Anything to keep my mind busy, body active, and to prevent bickering!

Keep the willpower strong everyone!

Youdoyoutoday · 20/12/2021 08:46

Morning everyone!!

I'm not bootcamping this morning as I'm sick, lovely dose of a tummy bug, started Saturday evening after I last posted, felt fine by yesterday afternoon so we had dinner but this morning it started again! So I'll be hanging out in the bathroom for the foreseeable future! My only hope is this helps lose a bit of weight, silver linings and all that!

My DD is off nursery today as they have had a covid outbreak and we are meant to have my uncle over who has cancer for Xmas day. I'm really worried about passing something on to him that I'm wondering if I should cancel now just so he can prepare just incase my DD does have covid and I can't shake this bug off.

@Graphista glad to see you back! It is so horrible how weight can creep up so quickly but sometimes you do need a break from it all, it's so exhausting doing this sometimes, all the thinking and planning about food! It gets really tedious!
Just enjoy your Christmas and hogmanay for now!

Crazzzycat · 20/12/2021 09:59

I wasn’t as restrained at my party as I’d planned to be. It was kind of expected though, so no feelings of guilt here, but I was still a bit disappointed that the scales this morning were 2 lbs up! There’s no way I put that on in a single evening, so I expect them to go down again (hopefully very fast!).

Apart from eating and drinking, I filled my weekend with lots of exercise. The weather was absolutely amazing here; crystal clear and extremely cold! We made the most of it by going on lovely long wintery walks. Just as well, as today is horrible and grey again.

I haven’t read everyone’s posts yet, but sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly @Youdoyoutoday. It’s so hard to work out what to do with Covid all around us.

Well done on hitting your goal @129orbust! I’m a massive fan of Lebanese food too. Where I live there’s no chance of getting a Lebanese takeaway, but it’s my first choice whenever I visit more civilised places 😋

@Graphista, it’s good to see you back! Keep posting, even if you’re not sticking to plan. From experience, keeping a foot in the door of this thread, will make it easier to get back on plan later.

TheRealHousewife · 20/12/2021 12:23

Good Morning Lovelies

Coming to this thread is like receiving a hug from a friend. It’s such a lovely thread! Thank you for keeping things running. I’ve scanned read and noticed @132orbust has reached goal! Fantastic and well done!!! 👍⭐️👏🥇. Also well done to everyone else too 👍⭐️👏🥇.

Not wanting to bring the tone down on here but need to mention I’m still not feeling 100% (more like 25% 😬) plus I am feeling quite low. Just saying so people know I’m not meaning to neglect the thread and I really appreciate all those lovely posters who are keeping it going. I do intend to create a LOSE IT! January 2022 and I’m hoping I will be generally be more present than I have been on this thread. I’d like you all to know I have the upmost respect for you all for sharing your weight loss journeys. You are all awesome!

Take Care ❤️🎄❤️

Sending you a hug @TheRealHousewife from the former 132orbust - onwards and inwards towards 129!
So sorry you are not feeling right - I had that super cold end Nov/start of Dec and it left me feeling really depleted both physically and mentally.
It does pass - check in if and when you can x

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/12/2021 14:15

Sending you the very best wishes @TheRealHousewife Sorry to hear you are still so poorly. Do take good care. Flowers

Youdoyoutoday · 20/12/2021 14:38

Hope you feel better soon @TheRealHousewife

It's crappy how so many of us are sick for the festive season!

My dad is currently on the phone to my uncle explaining the situation as I've said it's probably best if we stay apart but that we need to know as we need to go shopping etc for the turkey and trimmings!

SunshineCake1 · 20/12/2021 15:59

Lovely to see you @TheRealHousewife. I have thought about you and whether to text but didn't want to intrude. We are all here and we will keep the threads going. Just do what you can, make sure you access any and all support you need and shout if you need or want anything.

Your wintry walks sound lovely @Crazzzycat. I walked with a friend and our dogs this morning and have just got back with my dog on another walk. In for the day now and dh is making me a sandwich as I just realised I've eaten nothing since 5.30 last night. I'm not even that hungry really.

I got my appointments all mixed up so I can run tomorrow then blood test on Wednesday and hospital on Thursday.

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/12/2021 17:49

I took inspiration from your wintery walks Crazzy and just been out. Dark & city, so not quite light and bright and winter views. But I'm dead nosey and liked admiring everyone's trees and lights! And you are right, it's not really 2lbs.

Sorry to hear about your tummy bug you, and your DD being off nursery. Hope you get better soon, and sorted as to what you can do for Christmas.

All the uncertainty is so frustrating and upsetting.

In case I forget tomorrow (highly likely atm) thinking of you and everything crossed for your hospital appointments Sunshine. Hope it is nothing sinister. And glad your DH is making you eat. Need to keep strength up. Plus fuel your body esp if you are running. My physio said rapid weight loss + exercising hard is not a good combo as muscle wastage is rapid causing injury. Look after yourself.

Plodding on here. Thinking of alcohol to drown out (not good) emotions. I shall resist as long as I can via keeping busy.

Big wave to everyone else I haven't mentioned, sorry. And another big dose of TLC over to TheRealHousewife.

Youdoyoutoday · 21/12/2021 10:24

Morning all.

Had a weigh in this morning, 13.12! Seems the only person to gain weight when sick, lovely. But it is what it is, I'm not bothered by it this time round.

More bothered about DD still being ill, she threw up again this morning, hate seeing her like this. She's teething too which isn't helping her mood, lots of mummy cuddles today!

Still so much stuff to do, berating myself for not being more organised but I wanted to do all of it yesterday when DD was meant to be at nursery and DS was meant to be with my dad for the evening and most of today! I have everything ready to wrap but nowhere to do it, going to do the food shop tonight, then attack it after the kids are in bed.

Busy busy busy!!

I'll be back before Xmas but in the meantime, take care xx

Youdoyoutoday · 21/12/2021 10:25

Also thinking of you @SunshineCake1

SunshineCake1 · 21/12/2021 13:19

Dh is missing. Rationally I know he's probably still at his parents but his phone goes straight to voicemail. Our app says he's at home. I'm actually feeling quite tearful.

SunshineCake1 · 21/12/2021 13:23

Good call to not stress you've gone up @Youdoyoutoday. Remember sometimes what the scales say make no sense. Hope everyone who is poorly feels better very soon. Thank you for your wishes. I got my dates all wrong so if is blood tests tomorrow and hospital on Thursday. Bit upset my blood tests were cancelled as now I can't have the lady I know and like and have to have someone I find a bit abrupt.

Ram just over 6km this morning. Not too bad times with a little improvement I think. Weight wise I am down just under a pound since Saturday. Only ate once yesterday so I expect to go down a little more as long as I don't eat too much today. Waiting on dh coming home to have lunch as I'm worrying about him anyway as all he ate yesterday was a mince pie and a scotch egg. We both feel unwell but negative LF tests thankfully.

Hope everyone else is well. Hi @TheRealHousewife hope you feel better today.

Miss you @fallfallfall @Puffalicious @MrsJonesAndMe - sorry I have forgotten your new name.
