Hello & Welcome

WOW 😯 This year has passed far too quickly and December and the festive season is all of a sudden upon us with about a 4wk countdown to 2022. Don’t panic, this isn’t a quick fix promotion; it’s more a slow & sustained way of eating. There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

I for one want to start the brand New Year feeling fit, healthy & vibrant with hope that we are all in for a better year! Eating right, getting outside, moving more will all aid in bolstering up your immune system and promote positive mental health.

I’m not one to be a Ba Humbug about festive treats and mulled wine but I do remain mindful about my choices without undue deprivation. Life’s for living and we’ve had too much of that taken away over the last 2 years not to embrace the family & friends celebrations.

Come and join us. On these threads I find members are supportive and inspiring in equal measures. We offer guidance, support and a bit of handholding. Share as much or as little as you want.

Official weigh day is Wednesday aka WOW but it’s not compulsory. Currently I weigh a couple of times a week but at others I’ve weighed daily. Do whatever suits you.

Jump on board, this time next week/month/year you’ll be glad you did. What are you going to change? What are your goals? How do you intend to do it?

I’ve just converted 2022km into miles =1256 😮 = 3.44 miles per day 😮

Now need to work out steps per day = 3.44 miles

swampytiggaa · 29/12/2021 19:52

@SunshineCake1 @TheRealHousewife @Crazzzycat I’m currently doing a virtual South West Coast Path challenge which is 670 miles (I think) and I’ve just signed up for a Jubilee challenge which is 500 miles taking in some royal residencies 😊 I do them through Endtoend. I get a medal at the end and emailed postcards on the way and can track myself on a map. It’s really good fun 😊

I’ve already completed Lands End John O’Groats the Welsh Coast Path and the North Coast 500 😁

swampytiggaa · 29/12/2021 19:53

Anyway hope everyone is feeling better soon x looking forward to being back.

Just had Christmas pudding with clotted cream and a large Baileys. Absolutely not giving a fuck this month 😂😂

buzzofthebumblebee · 29/12/2021 20:40

Swampy - your last comment has made me grin from ear to ear. Thank you.
I'm def in on the 2022 challenge too Crazzzzy. I've just seen Strava does a running one, but there's no way I'm running 5.6km every day. Walking I'm usually OK. Poor ageing dog wouldn't be happy though ; )
TheReal - could you do minutes of exercise instead of distance?

buzzofthebumblebee · 29/12/2021 20:43

And yes to a sponsored thing too. I'm in.

But I'll set my own goals, £ target, and charity if that's OK .... less external pressure the less anxiety, & more chance I am at succeeding. But even if it's £20.22 that's something? I'll probably aim for £202.20 which might well end up being all my own £ saved from dry january ; )

swampytiggaa · 29/12/2021 20:51

Ok just a before bed pondering… 2022. Could we aim for 20 mins 22 seconds (roughly) of activity a day? Wouldn’t have to all be in one go… that would be pretty inclusive 😊

Ignore me if it’s a ridiculous idea I don’t think that baileys should be drunk like milkshake 😂😂 I am celebrating my promotion at work 😁 but have just set my usual 4am alarm 😭😭

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 21:14

@swampytiggaa genius… I could manage 20 mins 20 seconds 😊. Your challenge is very ambitious, you totally deserve postcards & 🎖👏👍Hahaha drinking Baileys like milkshake 🤣

Totally understand @buzzofthebumblebee 👍. Yes minutes it is for me. I could do that over the day looks proud.

SunshineCake1 · 29/12/2021 21:56

He tells me I would have to run four times a week and 10.11km each time to make 2022km in the year. Eek.

Crazzzycat · 30/12/2021 00:24

I’d love it if others could join me for 2022 (insert your measurement of choice here) in 2022. My original plan was to just keep a running total for myself and post an update once a week, but I’m open to suggestions. I hadn’t even considered doing this for charity. What a great idea. I like the idea of a sponsored team event too. So many great ideas!

@TheRealHousewife, could you do something like 2022 minutes of exercise in 2022? That way you can spread it across the year in a way that works best for you?

@SunshineCake1, yeah it may be a little ambitious to do it all through running. Are you still using your exercise bike? I think mine will become my secret weapon is this challenge, as I can do 12 km on the bike in the same time as it would take me to walk 2 km. It might even encourage me to use the bike more 😂

@swampytiggaa will you be running those distances?! How long do you reckon that will take you? 😯

swampytiggaa · 30/12/2021 04:22

I count runs and dedicated walks 😊 so not my walks to work etc but just when I set out for a decent walk. I did just count runs but work gets in the way 😂😂

DownUdderer · 30/12/2021 05:00

I'm up another pound. Oh dear. I turned down a McDonald's for lunch today so that felt like a mini victory. We had another lovely morning on the beach.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 07:36

Good Morning All

@Crazzzycat sponsored events would be great if we could work out the finer details. Yes I’m looking at minutes rather than miles or KM. I have to be realistic. I’ll get my thinking cap on again later today.

@SunshineCake1 would that be too much? I know you’re an accomplished runner but I’d hate to think you was putting yourself under pressure.

@swampytiggaa walks/runs they are both good exercise/activity so I think your plan is fair 👍

@DownUdderer frustrating as it is it could be have 2-3lbs if you’d succumbed to the burger (salt & carbs as you know add water weight). Well done on swerving the burger 🍔.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom omelette
Meal 2 - Halloumi, kale, carrot, red onion, red pepper, butter bean stir fry < One of my favourite meals 😋

Only 2 days left of this month and year! Wow, I’m ready for 2022 after the year we’ve all had.

OP posts:
SunshineCake1 · 30/12/2021 09:03

@Crazzzycatmcan I count the distance walked with the dog? That makes it more doable and less daunting.

SunshineCake1 · 30/12/2021 09:06

@TheRealHousewife it would be too much at the moment as I'm still not back to as fit as I was. I've already been stressing as can't run January 1st at the very least as I'll be in hospital tomorrow but dh thinks the whole of January is out before I'll be able to run 10km again. Given I gave up couch 25km this time after four runs as I just wanted to run and not walk and run there is no way I would not try and do 10km as soon as I could.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 09:13

I totally understand @SunshineCake1 I misunderstood your post about running 4x a week … sorry.

OP posts:
swampytiggaa · 30/12/2021 09:15

I’ve decided I’m going to commit to 20min 22seconds activity every day on top of my normal daily stuff 😊whether that’s a run walk or dancing in my living room. Remind me if I start slacking 😂😂

buzzofthebumblebee · 30/12/2021 09:53

ooh swampy - you wise one. I'll aim for 2022 in exercise over the whole year (combined cycling, runs, and dedicated walk including dog walks). Far more likely and achievable and less stress than just running!
Plus 20 mins 22 secs of something for ME every day, whether it's sitting down with a cuppa in garden listening to the birds, yoga, breathing, dancing, reading, or similar.
I hit sugar and wine (again) last night. Big binge. Royally fed-up with being cooped up indoors. My tiny city-yard of a garden is a mess so will set that my mission for today.
Have a good last few days of 2021. A year I am very happy to move on from. Still rooting for you for tomorrow Sunshine. One step at a time for January. You really don't need to be running every day, especially on 1st Jan.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 10:41

I’m with you @swampytiggaa 20mins 20 secs of something everyday. Might be split up so 10 mins on the mat doing yoga and 10mins doing LS walking vid. I am adding in light weight too. So another day 10 mins hand weights and 10 mins stretching etc. @Crazzzycat thank you so much for the inspiration 🙏👍⭐️

@buzzofthebumblebee soon that binge will be so last year 😬. Put it behind you and tackle that garden with gusto 👍 I might do a bit of yard work myself 🧹

Morning all!!

Welcome back @swampytiggaa!

Reading lots of 2022, my eyes are boggling but that might be the wine from last night!!

I certainly like the idea of an extra 20 minutes a day of movement! That sounds doable!!

I can't wait to get back in a normal routine of people leaving this house and getting time to myself again! It will 3 weeks of DD not going to nursery over the festive period and she's been stuck to me like glue!!
I'm looking forward to bootcamp and swimming again but adding another 20 minutes a day sounds great. Might try skipping as I bought a rope ages ago and it's still untouched.

I'd love to get some pilates in to my weekly schedule somewhere so might check out classes where I go swimming.

@DownUdderer that beach looks stunning!! Loves a beach i do!

@buzzofthebumblebee hope you're feel better Flowers

@SunshineCake1 sending you lots of love for tomorrow 💕

I've just a nose at the January thread and it's 6 pages already! 😳

See you on the other side, ladies 🥳😜

swampytiggaa · 30/12/2021 12:31

@Youdoyoutoday I’m sure I’ve got a skipping rope somewhere… that might be fun! Not sure my pelvic floor will like it tho 😂😂

@buzzofthebumblebee I think I’m going to Nick your idea of giving myself 20 minutes a day too 💕 I will use it to read or knit or something 😂😂 bit of self care anyway 👍

Crazzzycat · 30/12/2021 14:48

I love that idea of doing 20 minutes for yourself @buzzofthebumblebee. That’s such a lovely, positive thing to aim for.

20 minutes on top of your usual activity @swampytiggaa?! You really are powered by Duracell 😂 It’d be lovely if you can join us too @Youdoyoutoday!

I’m so happy to know that I somehow managed to inspire others, especially you @TheRealHousewife. It’s the least I can do after all the inspiration and encouragement you’ve given me and others this year. You’re awesome! 🤗

SunshineCake1 · 30/12/2021 16:04

@TheRealHousewife

I totally understand *@SunshineCake1* I misunderstood your post about running 4x a week … sorry.
I'm confused too now as doesn't know what the misunderstanding is!
SunshineCake1 · 30/12/2021 16:06

Thank you very much @Youdoyoutoday and @buzzofthebumblebee. I've had confirmation my PCR was negative so I'm on for tomorrow.

Just broke my own rule and posted on the January thread. I didn't want to get left behind so started reading it then posted by accident Blush.

Youdoyoutoday · 30/12/2021 16:14

The January thread is so busy already!!

Have to admit though that the new year doesn't really start until the 10th for me as that's when full normality (going back to bootcamp) kicks in but I of course, shall be well behaved after Monday as we are going to friends house and I'm not driving home 🍷😜

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/12/2021 16:57
