Hello & Welcome

WOW 😯 This year has passed far too quickly and December and the festive season is all of a sudden upon us with about a 4wk countdown to 2022. Don’t panic, this isn’t a quick fix promotion; it’s more a slow & sustained way of eating. There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

I for one want to start the brand New Year feeling fit, healthy & vibrant with hope that we are all in for a better year! Eating right, getting outside, moving more will all aid in bolstering up your immune system and promote positive mental health.

I’m not one to be a Ba Humbug about festive treats and mulled wine but I do remain mindful about my choices without undue deprivation. Life’s for living and we’ve had too much of that taken away over the last 2 years not to embrace the family & friends celebrations.

Come and join us. On these threads I find members are supportive and inspiring in equal measures. We offer guidance, support and a bit of handholding. Share as much or as little as you want.

Official weigh day is Wednesday aka WOW but it’s not compulsory. Currently I weigh a couple of times a week but at others I’ve weighed daily. Do whatever suits you.

Jump on board, this time next week/month/year you’ll be glad you did. What are you going to change? What are your goals? How do you intend to do it?

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife! My plan for December is to maintain, although I wouldn’t say no to a loss either!

I’m going to calorie count most days in December, apart from festive days, like Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

I’m also planning to focus on quality rather than quantity over the festive period. This year I will ditch the usual biscuits, mince pies and tins of quality street, where I feel most of the calories are, for a single box of nice chocolates, just for me! My DH was quite excited about that idea, so I got him one too. We’ll just leave all the other stuff for the kids…or at least that is the plan!

Mummytogg · 30/11/2021 09:47

I would love to join. Im currently 10 weeks post partum from baby number 3. Im back to pre pregnancy weight of around 170lbs and would like to aim for around 140lbs initially. Planning on slow and steady as I am breastfeeding but would love the encouragement from others

Youdoyoutoday · 30/11/2021 10:57

Hello, thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife!

I'm going for the same as @Crazzzycat, I've not even got myself an advent calendar and I'm definitely not getting in the usual Xmas treats like mince pies and tubs of chocolates as my son is going to his father's for Xmas and my DP is off to see his parents after xmas to help them with some DIY and other bits that need doing around their house. There's no point having it all in as it will just be me and my dd whose 2 so she won't be eating all that kind of crap. Will keep on top of food logging every day too, the only day I'm not going to is Xmas day.

I've not even got any night outs planned through December apart from this Friday so it should be fairly easy to stay on track. I'd be more than happy to get my sleep back on track this winter rather than nights out anyway as I'm so bored of being tired all the time. I really thought I'd be more energetic what with bootcamp and swimming but I'm still not feeling it. I didn't go swimming this morning either which is bad as that's 2 swim sessions I've missed now so I'm definitely going on Thursday.

Happy Tuesday 🌞

Elle200 · 30/11/2021 12:51

Lovely shiny new thread thank you @TheRealHousewife.

I'm planning on not depriving myself of anything over the Christmas week. I'll admit to being a bit worried about gaining weight, if I do, it'll be the first gain in two years of dieting, so I won't make a pig of myself and hope for a static weight. Weigh day for me tomorrow on the first of the month, they come around so quickly.

Really admiring the exercise you're all doing :)

TheRealHousewife · 30/11/2021 12:59

Hi @Crazzzycat & @Youdoyoutoday … pleased you’re joining us again 😊. I am loving both your posts! So positive and includes sensible planning! I totally agree about swapping quality for quantity. Also you’ve both worked so hard to get where you are now it would be madness to undo it all. So thats 3 of us continuing to be mindful.

A warm welcome and congratulations 🥳 on your 3rd baby @Mummytogg. I think mummies are Super Women! Being a mother is a tough job and do I realise children/babies bring much joy, nonetheless they can eat up all your time too.

Enjoy your afternoons x

New thread! Thanks @TheRealHousewife

Welcome @Mummytogg . I joined the November thread and found it a great source of encouragement. I’m 9lbs down after 4 weeks, half way through C25K and aiming for a couple of extra pounds off before Christmas to get me half way to my weight loss goal.

Today I’m daydreaming about a Starbucks hot chocolate in a red cup for that Christmas feeling. Out to dinner tonight, so it definitely doesn’t fit in with my goals today, but I shall find a day where it does. December is going to be all about balancing those indulgences.

TheRealHousewife · 30/11/2021 13:32

Pleased to see you join us again @MyAnacondaMight and you’re very welcome 😊. I’ve never had a Starbucks hot chocolate … what would you give them out of 10? TBH I’m quite good at not drinking my calories although I do make an exception for Baileys 😬. That’s why I don’t have it in the house. I always tend to buy Smart Alec bottles that shout my name from the cupboard!

Just a quick hello.

Best run today.

Going away tomorrow for three nights. Excited and worried in equal measure. Won't take iPad so might not be able to post.

Will read and answer properly later when I'm able.

Welcome to newbies and good luck to everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 30/11/2021 16:23

Hi @SunshineCake1 nice to see you pop on. Enjoy your break, you really need a good time after the year you’ve had 😊❤️

Sorry for my bad manners. Thank you @TheRealHousewife for the new thread.

SunshineCake1 · 30/11/2021 17:03

Ah cross posted. Thank you for your message @TheRealHousewife. I'm feeling tearful. Was hoping to see one friend while away and it doesn't took like it will be more than a quick drink Sad. One other friend I wanted to see to drop off her presents and she's ill so staying with her son still and I can't get hold of her. That one is disappointing rather than tear inducing but it makes it frustrating.

Mummytogg · 30/11/2021 18:55

Thank you for the welcome!

@therealhousewife they definitely keep me busy! We live overseas currently 9 hours ahead of the uk but we are moving back home this spring! We currently homeschool and my husband works long hours. We are lucky to have mild weather so I have been walking a lot more lately.

@myAnacondaMight that's amazing loss!

murmuration · 30/11/2021 19:46

Thanks for the new thread! Last year I mysteriously lost a good 10 lbs over Christmas (since regained and more...) - I think it was because of holiday from work and lack of stress, despite holiday food. I don't know if that will happen this year, as I am working right up to 24 Dec this year. Although I do have two weeks off.

A small willpower win today: I declined to get ice-cream along with DH and DD this evening after we got to town and discovered DD's activity had been cancelled (my fault, I didn't pick up the email this weekend). One of my problems has been giving into these random things, which seem to occur at just enough frequency to gain back all my losses (or more).

SunshineCake1 · 30/11/2021 21:32

@Youdoyoutoday I started to sleep better once I was running a decent amount. Then I had quite a while of waking at least once and often twice a night for the loo. These days it is hit and miss. I struggle to fall asleep and get comfy. I often say to dh I don't know what to do with my arms. Once I slept I until 7.10 and I was very shocked but mostly when I walk the clock is showing a six with occasionally a five.

Well done on the ice cream refusal @murmuration.

I'm going away tomorrow. I'm going "home." Just me so I've packed lots of books and chocolate. Calories don't count when away, right? I've packed my my running gear in case things don't go to plan/well and I need a mental health boost.

DownUdderer · 01/12/2021 05:01

I got out for a nice walk today.

I'd like to lose 5lb to get to a weight I'll be happy with. Perhaps 1lb a week will be good.

Elle200 · 01/12/2021 06:13

Good morning :)

Weigh day for me today, and the stats are:

SW 134KG
CW 69.8KG
TW 67KG
Loss so far 64.2kg

Now I'm rethinking my plans for an indulgent Christmas in the hope I can reach target weight by January 1st, but I think that might be impossible. Christmas pudding anyone?!

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/12/2021 08:32

Hello everyone, and thank you for the very positive and inspiring new post @TheRealHousewife. I'm also in the mindful club here, quality over quantity. I'll have a mince pie Christmas day, or boxing day, or both, but won't otherwise.

Hope you enjoy your few days back home @SunshineCake1and get to restore & recharge. And no, calories don't count away. I've just been away too (hence all quiet from me!).

Diet wise I'm going to keep carrying on what I'm doing as it seems to be working. Exercise was going well until I hurt knee, but hope to resume end of this week. If anything I may need to up my calories as weight consistently dropping. It is becoming very normal to not even think about food. Which has to be a good thing? But I need to keep an eye on it.

Here are my stats:
SW (1st Sept) - 13 stone 2
CW (1st Dec) - 11 stone 9

Well done on the losses Crazzy, You, Anaconda & DownUnder - I've been following whilst away but no means to update. Great to hear your positivity Graphista & TheReal and good luck to everyone else I've forgotten to name, and the new joiners.

Crazzzycat · 01/12/2021 08:45

I’m starting December off on 76.7, the lowest I’ve been this year. I didn’t weigh myself when I got started, but my conservative estimate is that I was around 100 kg at the time. So that’s a loss of over 23 kg/ 50lbs since March. It’s massive when I add it all up like that 😱

murmuration · 01/12/2021 09:36

Really inspiring losses Elle ad Crazzy!

I'm pleased with my weigh-in:
SW 14 stone 4
CW 13 stone 6

That's 6 pounds down from last week! I don't actually believe I lost 6 lbs in a week (especially with Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday), so either my 1 pound down last week was a blip up or today is a blip down. I'm hoping for last week being a blip up... It's making me wonder if I should be weighing daily to get a sense of the variation.

TheRealHousewife · 01/12/2021 09:51

Happy December 1st 🎄

Great to see our regular members joining us again @Elle200 (sorry I missed your post!) @buzzofthebumblebee @murmuration @sunshinecake1 @Crazzzycat @DownUdderer @Youdoyoutoday @Mummytogg @MyAnacondaMight.

New members always welcome 😊

Well I don’t know what’s going on weight wise with me. Another 1lb on today. The only change I’ve made really is going out for daily walks (massive effort and can’t go far) Nonetheless I think it causes inflammation which then causes water weight. On the other hand I do like the feeling when I’ve been in the fresh air and get a bit breathless. I’ll just carry on and hope it soon settles.

You’re off to a positive start @crazzzycat and you’ve done fabulously well over the year 👍⭐️👏

@elle200 just wow 😮 Well done! 👍👏⭐️

@buzzofthebumblebee another great success story 👍👏⭐️

@DownUdderer sensible targets. I myself would like to make the same progress. Hasn’t there been some talk of ‘set point weight’. I think I’m at that as I’m either sts or gaining/losing but not get below a certain point iyswim.

@Graphista How are you lovely. We are here if you’d like to join us. ❤️ Flowers

Well done everyone on those Wednesday losses! And @TheRealHousewife water weight isn’t fat, so don’t be disheartened - just keep at it.

Still 10st 13 today, so starting December in a new stone bracket as I aimed to. And I’m now half way through C25K! 20 minute run next session. Shock

The Christmas struggle has started - avoiding the pigs in blankets and advent chocolate feels like a computer game where you have to dodge all the things being thrown at you!

Youdoyoutoday · 01/12/2021 14:39

Bootcamp done this morning! It was raining as we were setting up but thankfully stopped as we got started. I don't like it in the rain, getting wet I can kinda deal with but I'm more scared of slipping and doing myself an injury!

Youdoyoutoday · 01/12/2021 14:42

I haven't weighed myself either today as I feel a bit more podgy so will leave it for another couple of weeks. I don't want to start feeling disheartened again. I felt kinda meh and a bit moody the past couple of days, not sure why but I do know seeing something I don't like on the scales will send me off on a tail spin so I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and not worry so much about weighing myself again just yet.
