Hello & Welcome

WOW 😯 This year has passed far too quickly and December and the festive season is all of a sudden upon us with about a 4wk countdown to 2022. Don’t panic, this isn’t a quick fix promotion; it’s more a slow & sustained way of eating. There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

I for one want to start the brand New Year feeling fit, healthy & vibrant with hope that we are all in for a better year! Eating right, getting outside, moving more will all aid in bolstering up your immune system and promote positive mental health.

I’m not one to be a Ba Humbug about festive treats and mulled wine but I do remain mindful about my choices without undue deprivation. Life’s for living and we’ve had too much of that taken away over the last 2 years not to embrace the family & friends celebrations.

Come and join us. On these threads I find members are supportive and inspiring in equal measures. We offer guidance, support and a bit of handholding. Share as much or as little as you want.

Official weigh day is Wednesday aka WOW but it’s not compulsory. Currently I weigh a couple of times a week but at others I’ve weighed daily. Do whatever suits you.

Jump on board, this time next week/month/year you’ll be glad you did. What are you going to change? What are your goals? How do you intend to do it?

A Leslie?

SunshineCake1 · 07/12/2021 15:33

Sorry to drop and run in an embarrassing and immature attention seeking way but if I don't post now I won't deal with it. I think I'm bordering on a eating disorder since Wednesday. This post is for accountability.

SunshineCake1 · 07/12/2021 16:50

Thank you for that @Crazzzycat but I don't think I am doing too much exercise. The running is more full on of course, even though I'm not back to full speed, but the dog walking is pretty gentle. We were out just short of two hours yesterday.

SunshineCake1 · 07/12/2021 16:56

I'm off my food too @buzzofthebumblebee and we are height and weight stuff twins. Having said that I have just remembered I was 5 foot six but I think I am now five four. I did get down to almost 10 1/2 stone and thought I looked okay.

Hope your stomach bug has gone and your headache goes @Crazzzycat.

Hope your parents make it to you @132orbust but if they don't we will all help you through not comfort eating.

Weighed this morning and I'm 0.2 lbs down on yesterday.

132orbust · 07/12/2021 17:43

Ah a Leslie - there used to be a link in the OP: @Youdoyoutoday

m.youtube.com/watch?v=enYITYwvPAQ

This lady has a voice like a cheese grater BUT it is so good to do when the weather is horrid and there are hundreds of videos to choose from depending on how long/intense you fancy.

@SunshineCake1- please be careful as EDs are a slippery slope and seriously suck you in and they don't let go easily. I have watched someone starve themselves to heart failure. Draw a firm line in the sand now. Sending you a hug.

MyAnacondaMight · 07/12/2021 18:27

You’re so nearly there @132orbust . I know what you mean about those parts of a pound - they’ve mattered before so they matter now. But one day soon you’ll wake up and have missed 132 entirely and be 131.5. Keep it up!

I’ve got a terrible cold so probably no running for me this week - at least until my lungs clear. It’s frustrating, as I was really enjoying C25K. One positive is that my appetite has gone, so hoping for a pound off this week all while barely getting out of bed!

SunshineCake1 · 07/12/2021 18:49

@132orbust thank you. I feel very emotional at your caring comment. I'm struggling so much with being home and even though the friends I saw made it very clear how much they love and value me, I am still struggling with believing it.

I'm so sorry you watched such a difficult thing Flowers.

Pickles89 · 07/12/2021 20:51

My mum has anorexia. I think one of the reasons I've a tendency to overeat, I don't want to go that way! She looks like a concentration camp victim. I can't touch her without fear of breaking her. It's desperately sad. Big Hugs Sunshine - please take care!

Pickles89 · 07/12/2021 20:55

I've just had one walk today. This time couldn't have a workout because I was waiting for a delivery that never showed!! Arrgghh! I've eaten absolutely loads! I feel like the caterpillar in that picture book!

Breakfast: Small glass of juice
Lunch: Massive avocado, small pointy pepper, 2 mini wraps, bit of grated cheese, fibre one bar
Dinner: Bowl of courgette soup, 2 mini pittas, big piece of emmental, pear, fibre one bar
Supper: Haven't had it yet but I'm so hungry, I'm thinking banana and yoghurt

DownUdderer · 08/12/2021 03:40

I'm a pound down from last Wednesday. I'm pleased with that.

I'm up and down emotionally this week so I'm not being 100% mindful.

I completely understand about an all or nothing mentality with snacks. I too find it hard. I'm better when I don't buy things at all. But I think I'll have a few treats in the build up to Christmas. Perhaps if I keep weighing in then it'll help me stay sensible.

@sunshinecake1 I know you enjoy your running, remember that your body needs fuel to run and to recover afterwards and that food is important for that.

Sorry to hear about colds going around.

TheRealHousewife · 08/12/2021 06:14

Good Morning All

Gosh it's been a busy thread since my last post yesterday!

@DownUdderer well done on your progress 👍👏⭐️

@MyAnacondaMight sorry to read you've got the dreaded cold. Hope you feel better soon!

@buzzofthebumblebee you're doing great in your weight loss journey. As regards to how to eat over the festive period, it is different for each of us. I for example gain very very easy. I mean like 3/4 of a stone in a week. And that's without massively over eating, just a few drinks and carbs. It happened to me (not recently) and it wasn't even Christmas. But then again I have health issues, mobility issues, thyroid dysfunction, slow transit etc. Another person might be fighting fit, good muscle tone, exercise frequently no under lying health issues and be able to go off the rails without much damage and soon get back into it. We are all different. You know what'll work for you :) But whatever way you choose it needs to be enjoyable

@Crazzzycat sorry to read about the stomach bug. I hope it's settled! You made me laugh with your story of the crackers 😬

@132orbust fingers crossed you get to see your parents! Here's hoping that pesky bit of weight gets kicked to the curb 🤞 I'm with you on Lesley, she's great. So motivating and upbeat. I'll remember to link to her in January 2022.

@SunshineCake1 Sad to read about ED. I'm totally not qualified to advise about that other than seeking support via your GP. Hope you're ok ❤️

@Pickles89 to live with an ED mum must have been very difficult for you ❤️.

Menu
Meal 1- Red Pepper Omelette
Meal 2 - Mince beef, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli & cabbage.
Orange, small piece of flap jack, tea, coffee, water.

Hope the weather isn't too bad where you are. Enjoy your day!

PS I'm using the Mumsnet app on iPad for the first time as the web page no longer loads. After I posted it gave me a option to receive notification of tags. Here's hoping it works as I've never received email notification to my iPad. So unless I come back to thread I never know who's posted. 🤞

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words @buzzofthebumblebee and @MyAnacondaMight

This week has been crazy here and I feel that Christmas is going to hit me like a train wreck. No idea when I'll get anything sorted and also supposed to be moving in the new year so need to crack on with that too. Feeling so overwhelmed with life right now. Haven't made good food choices this week but haven't overeaten so a small win on the habit front and lost 2.25 pounds. Now to not just put it straight back on again!

Youdoyoutoday · 08/12/2021 08:02

I'm feeling awful today so haven't been to bootcamp. I've got some lurgy probably from my snotty faced DD bringing some filth home from nursery! She all smiles this morning but I just want to die. Ache all over 😪

TheRealHousewife · 08/12/2021 09:09

@Herewegoagainx4 sorry to hear you're feeling overwhelmed but very well done on not eating your feelings 👏⭐️👍

@Youdoyoutoday can you have an easy day of under a cosy throw on sofa drinking hot toddies? Get well soon!

OP posts:
Youdoyoutoday · 08/12/2021 09:17

I've got DD with me today so I'm trying to put a brave face on! I feel yucky though, hot and sweaty one minute then cold the next. Only bonus so far is that I don't feel hungry but I'm going to make my garlic and ginger soup later.

www.copymethat.com/r/mS9mFPlMf/this-ancient-ginger-and-garlic-soup-reci/

Its really tasty and certainly clears the head.

Crazzzycat · 08/12/2021 09:52

The scales went down to 75.8 kg this morning. I didn’t expect to see the 75s until sometime in the new year! I’m sure my mild stomach bug helped by suppressing my appetite and the scales may well go up again, but I’ll take it for now Smile

Well done on those losses @DownUdderer and @Herewegoagainx4

Your bug sounds grim @Youdoyoutoday. I hope you feel better soon. @SunshineCake1 please look after yourself and keep posting here. EDs are horrific, the sooner you can nip this in the bud the better Flowers

TheRealHousewife · 08/12/2021 10:37

@Youdoyoutoday your soup sounds right up my street. TY for posting the link😋

@Crazzzycat That's a win 👏

MyAnacondaMight · 08/12/2021 12:02

Well done @DownUdderer @Herewegoagainx4 and @Crazzzycat on your Wednesday weigh ins.

I weigh on Saturdays but hopped on this morning and am just under 10.12 rather than just over. Not a pound to count, but still good to see things moving in the right direction. I find the scales so random though - I can weigh myself three times in different places around a room and get three different results, so always do that and pick the highest number. I blame my wonky floors.

SunshineCake1 · 08/12/2021 17:36

Well done @Crazzzycat! Thank you for your kind words. I've had another day of OMAD. I ran this morning, have I posted already ? I think I'm the same as yesterday but I am down on the scales. Upset by another thread. Haven't heard from someone I wanted to talk too. Had booster jab today and felt immediately sick and dizzy. Still got the residual headache but hoping I'll sleep okay.

Youdoyoutoday · 08/12/2021 19:25

@SunshineCake1 please look after yourself. You won't get yourself fully recovered from GF if you aren't going to fuel yourself properly. Plus you need food for running, you literally can't run run on empty.
Flowers

SunshineCake1 · 08/12/2021 19:37

Thank you @Youdoyoutoday I feel embarrassed I've worried people. It's just so far from my usual behaviour it scared me a bit. Today I had three duck rissoles - random - and some pasta with onion, corn, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes and cheese for dinner at half four. Just had half a white lion bar and some spring onion Pringles. Supposed to be fasting but just wanted them as felt peckish so had them. Not running tomorrow but will walk the dog.

Pickles89 · 08/12/2021 21:34

11.7 today, so I've lost 2lbs! My Christmas goal weight is 11.5 but I'll be aiming for that on Monday 20th as then I'll be starting my Christmas baking so it'll all go tits up from there! Still, I think I can do another 2lbs in 10 days.

Today I've had a walk and a workout.

Breakfast: Glass of juice and cereal bar
Lunch: mini pot of houmous, cucumber and celery, mini pitta, 2 falafel, fibre one bar
Dinner: Big bowl of pasta and tomato sauce with sautéed mushrooms, 2 veggie meatballs and lots of grated cheese (Ooops! Was right after a workout though so hopefully I'll burn it off!)
Supper: Might have a banana and yoghurt later if I'm hungry

SunshineCake1 · 09/12/2021 11:40

Well done @Pickles89.

Quiet day here. Dh and I had our boosters and woke up feeling chilled and with a sore arm still. I might have lunch today.

Youdoyoutoday · 09/12/2021 12:41

Morning all, feeling better today but had a crappy night's sleep!

Had a cheeky weigh in the morning as I thought a week off from bootcamp, swimming and poorer food choices might have done some damage but very pleased, ecstatic in fact, that I remain at 13.11!
What a relief!
I might go to bootcamp in the morning but my chest still feels a bit tight so I'll see how I feel in the morning.

Was meant to do lots today and I've done nada, got completely sidetracked by the new sex in the city on sky.... oops!
