I've had a bit of a pants week too this week, so glad I'm not alone. Had an unexpected period and have felt so drained and desperate for sugar. I think I've maintained, even with water retention so not too damaging but definitely delayed progress.

@poorpaws I know what you mean, we always have biscuits in the office and I find it so difficult to resist. DH is annoyed with me for not recording, it makes it much harder for him with cooking and shopping so when I'm inconaistebt it's only him putting in the effort.

I'm going to do Chloe Ting's two week shred and hope that kicks starts things. Consistency is what I'm aiming for this week.

Bjarnum · 07/11/2021 18:30

I live near Swindon - and sadly we have missed shit faced Shakespeare where the actors perform a Shakespeare play when one of them is drunk out of their mind. We do Airbnb - but only part of the year . So for all of you who are stuck with an inert partner - come to me for a few days and we can kick up our heels, do cinema, theatre, wine and walks. Come as my guests Whatever. Leave DPs behind - or bring with and they can join in or crash out in front of the TV/Xbox. Dogs welcome. We are free up to 17/12/21 then booked till 3/1/2022. And in the meantime ..

Well done on your loss @Bjarnum Smile and OH GOSH, how I would love to spend a few days at yours with wine, things to do and great company!! If DP ever steps up and I can ever get a weekend away from the DC not bloody likely knowing him then I will be round like a shot with the Wine (and possibly Cake!)

Having said that everyone, DP actually did some cleaning today!! I know, you could have knocked me down with a feather too! Granted it was only an hour or so and I did at least four, but from little acorns etc... Grin

@poorpaws your DP sounds exhausting to put up with too, but in a different way - how frustrating to be 'treated' to hours of different walks but not even the occasional cinema trip or similar! Is there nothing else he enjoys going out to do apart from walking - even a walking tour might be a start?!

AF always completely drains me too @BabyRace, it's at the point now where I usually have to stay at home a day or two every time because the flooding is just so heavy Sad I'll have to look up Chloe Ting - all exercise suggestions (particularly if there's a reward chart involved!) are welcome!

poorpaws · 08/11/2021 08:11

@Bjarnum thank you for the invite, it would be fabulous but like @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I have to decline. I won’t do any public transport at all (hate it with a passion) and my very old car wouldn’t make the trip. Lovely idea though, perhaps one day when I get a newer car 🤞🏻

@Clara that’s progress, that really is. I think your DP may be rising from the ashes and realising he has to do more. There is no hope for my DP, he’s a brilliant man but very set in his ways. I’ve been trying for months to move our weekly shop forward by one hour so it doesn’t impact so much on my evening but nope, we go at 7 o’clock, he can’t possibly change that! I’m going on my own tomorrow at 6, he doesn’t know yet 🥴

So it’s weigh day and I wished it wasn’t. I was left alone with home made cookies (gift) and cake, I’ve gained 1.1/2lbs and I’m so upset with myself.

Good luck to everyone else on your weigh in.

I have GOT to get out of feeling that because I have lost a bit of weight I deserve a blow out. I know it is self defeating, I know it's warped reasoning but somehow I can't kick it. Cue huge slabs of Pizza, chocolate and port. Now I'm fighting the "I've blown it so might as well keep going" syndrome. What is the matter with me?

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/11/2021 07:08

Ah I know that feeling @Bjarnum Grin the old 'well today isn't a dieting day so I may as well eat that giant bar of Dairy Milk' get out... and then I wonder why I don't lose weight that week!!

Your DP sounds like my DF @poorpaws, lovely chap but so set in his ways that he absolutely cannot entertain doing anything different. My DM tried for years to go somewhere different on holiday, shop at a different supermarket, even go out at a different time but nope... it's like he panics if he has to leave his routine. (Not that he even admits he has a routine!). Anyhow she couldn't put up with it in the end, they split up after 25 years together, but perhaps your DP is still young enough to change!

Nothing to report here, I couldn't weigh in on Monday as DP started work late and frankly I didn't want him commenting on it, then DS2 has been off school sick Sad he still has a barking cough and occasional temperature, waiting for his latest PCR results now. I'm plodding on but desperately need a couple of hours free to go through the fridge and meal plan without someone saying "Mummy, can you watch Go Jetters with me?" for the 5000th time that day Confused

Hope everyone else is a bit more inspired than me! @professionalcockney @onemorerose @CreepingDeath @BabyRace @jb7445

Iamsodonewith2020 · 10/11/2021 07:52

I am just joining this thread if ok. Since March 2020 I have gone from 59kg to 69kg. Whilst it’s not a huge amount of weight it is really effecting me mentally. I have always been slim but 69kg tips me in to overweight. I weighed less when I was full term with my first child! I am making simple changes such as logging food on mfp and doing 20 minute shred video every day. My job is quite active so I already do 15k plus steps a day but I think due to peri menopause this is not enough anymore.

CreepingDeath · 10/11/2021 08:24

Sorry I've been AWOL for a while, I've just been maintaining really.

I'm still around 141.8lbs about the same as last week. I've been walking a lot more which has been great, but other than that I haven't been actively trying to lose weight.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

gonelululemoncrazy · 10/11/2021 12:51

Hi, is it ok for me to join this thread as well? Was doing a weigh in Wednesday at work before covid, lost a stone in the first nine months of wfh then post Xmas/second lockdown put on two and a half stone. Despite giving up alcohol since July (traditionally my go to strategy for lowing calorie intake ) I have really struggled to shift the pounds.

SW 13.5
CW 13.2
TW 11.0

I set my target weight date for Xmas back in July - which then looked doable. I think Easter is more realistic now.

poorpaws · 10/11/2021 13:18

Hi everyone. I’m just muddling along this week, either maintaining or gaining just a little. I’ve stopped counting calories for this week too. I’ve been counting them since June and I feel like I need a few days off. I have very repetitive meals anyway so I think (hope) I know what I’m doing.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. I feel as if I’ve been a bit unfair to my DP here, he is the kindest man you could wish to meet. He has a health problem where his hands shake (not alcoholism or Parkinson’s) but he gets very, very embarrassed about it (doesn’t bother me in the slightest but it bothers him). He won’t eat out because people stare and I’ve witnessed this so a lot of things we miss out on because of it. As for his routine thing, it’s mainly the shopping which drives me crazy.

@imsodonewith2020 hi and welcome. I can totally see that even gaining a small amount of weight can affect you. And by the time you realise a small amount increases to a large amount so well done to you for sorting it early. I’m very impressed with your added exercise. I really should do more but keep putting it off. Anyway it’s nice to have you onboard.

I hope everyone is doing well this week.

poorpaws · 10/11/2021 13:26

@gonelululemoncrazy. Hi and welcome to you too. I think our posts crossed. My diet history is just like yours even down to having a Christmas deadline, now postponed to Easter. I lost a stone in the first lockdown and then put two and a half back on. We’ve been doing this since early June and I’ve lost a stone (again) but I’m really struggling now. Christmas looked so far away in June and I couldn’t fail (famous last words). Now I’m just hoping not to gain my lost stone back over Christmas 🤞🏻

Weigh ins are Monday mornings if that’s any good to our new members.

OP posts:
gonelululemoncrazy · 10/11/2021 13:44

@poorpaws, thanks - I'm trying not to be too hard on myself for not hitting the Xmas deadline. It was DS2's birthday last weekend - over three days there were three cakes , two family meals and three hours in the local Odeon surrounded by pop-corn and kids. Funnily enough put on a couple of pounds over the week - really missed the Wine.

poorpaws · 10/11/2021 14:52

@gonelululemoncrazy I feel your pain regarding birthdays and cake, I’ve got a birthday this weekend. I’m trying hard to do damage limitation before it (and possibly after it too).

OP posts:
poorpaws · 11/11/2021 08:50

So it’s six weeks and a couple of days to Christmas so maybe it’s time to think how we can manage the Christmas/New Year festivities. I have composed the following to at least make us consider it.

Will you:

A). stick to the diet as you have been doing and ignore Christmas indulgence.
“I really want to lose my weight”.

B) stick to the diet but increase my calorie allowance a little and continue my exercise regime so that I can at least join in the festivities.
“I will control myself at Christmas”.

C) forget the exercise, increase my calorie allowance significantly but still be cautious.
“Christmas means a lot but so does my weight so I will not totally sabotage it”.

D) throw caution to the wind. It’s Christmas, I will not be careful or exercise for Christmas/New Year weeks, I’ll make up for it after Christmas/New Year.
“Christmas is only once a year and I’m going to enjoy it”.

E) something else that you have thought of.
“I won’t be dictated to by paws, who does she think she is”.🤣

OP posts:
Bjarnum · 11/11/2021 10:47

Aiming for A but will likely finish with D.

Purlsandhooks · 11/11/2021 12:27

Hello all! Please can I join you to chat about cake and dogs? You seem like a lovely group.
I'll introduce myself, I'm mid 30s with a DD, office job which is great but sedentary apart from getting up to put the kettle on.
I'm a classic pear shape and have always had quite a flat belly. You can guess where I'm going with this - a spare tyre appeared! 😲 but that's just the start really. I'm about 1.5 stone (currently) from where I want to be. I can't tell you what my SW was because I was too scared to weigh!!! But I'm guestimating it was nearing 12st. I'm 5'3. I started weighing at 11.8 and CW is 11.3 I'm aiming for 10.6 for Christmas which is 2lbs a week. Started using MFP which I'm new to, and am doing Gillian Michael's 30 day shread. She's a sadist. Anyway, hope to find and provide some support during the run up to xmas which will no doubt be a testing time!!

gonelululemoncrazy · 11/11/2021 13:14

Not going to kid myself that I'll do A - will aim for C but in reality will most likely turnout as D (once the sancerre gets opened the damn is likely to break).

poorpaws · 11/11/2021 18:13

@Purlsandhooks welcome, good to have you here. We are nearly the same height and are very nearly the same weight. I’m looking to have this done and dusted by Easter (I love Easter much more than Christmas). I’m so pleased you joined us. Weigh-in Monday mornings any good for you?

@Bjarnum and @gonelululemoncrazy I think most of us will end up doing D I’m afraid.

So I was doing very well today until my neighbour turned up with two huge slices of Christmas cake (still slightly warm). Oh my goodness the smell!!!!! It was divine, I HAD to eat it🥴. Another day messed up.

OP posts:
Purlsandhooks · 11/11/2021 19:05

Thank you for the warm welcome paws 💞 How handy that we're on a similar journey!!

Monday weigh in is good for me. I can't help but weigh every day though, I think it helps me keep on track.
No idea what the scales will say for me on Monday.. I've been getting a 1lb loss every day for the last 4 days which is odd, and obviously unsustainable. Maybe it has something to do with AF.. Hard to tell as I'm on BC. Time will tell!! Allowing myself a couple of G&T tonight (a comprise on my usual red wine) so enjoying the treat!

Still warm Christmas cake sounds divine!!! I can almost smell it 🤤

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/11/2021 22:09

Welcome @Purlsandhooks - cake and dogs are definitely more interesting than diets, but we do talk about them occasionally, honest Grin

I'm aiming for B here @poorpaws... I've now got an ear infection and moving at all is painful, but I live in hope that it'll be resolved soon now I've got some antibiotics! I don't know if anyone read this fantastic Expectations vs Reality thread, but I bought a knitted woolly hat and wore it this week to cover my very sore ear.
Expectation: Parisienne chic, comfy yet stylish
Reality: Compo from Last of the Summer Wine Sad

Oh gosh I love a bit of Christmas cake. I'd have scoffed that down no problem! and this is why I need a diet thread

Bjarnum · 13/11/2021 12:11

Welcome**@gonelululemoncrazy* and @Purlsandhooks. I must admit Christmas cake does it for me too - soaked regularly in brandy with lashings of almond icing and fondant. This year I made a small one and hope to limit the damage by force feeding it to anything that moves (not the dogs obv) @ ClaraTheImpossibleGirl*you poor thing - you are really going through it. Your post tickled me and I'm still chuckling. So, I shall add one of my own:
Expectation : A small dainty slice of Christmas cake eaten with restraint
Reality: Open season on Christmas cake started at breakfast and continuing madly throughout the day. Hope we are all winning the struggle this week ... I'm finding it tough and trying to not think about how long this is going to take me.

poorpaws · 13/11/2021 18:30

I’ve had the most wonderful but calorific day! I’ve got a calorific day out tomorrow.

@Bjarnum you asked for a days notice for a superhuman week. I type this with great trepidation - Monday? 😱

OP posts:
Praguemum · 13/11/2021 21:54

Gained lockdown weight of 8kgs, basically from drinking every day. So, have tried the low carb thing and got such bad keto flu that I thought I'd given myself IBS! Lost bugger all weight.

In level 3 lockdown in NZ at the moment, which basically means no social life. DH announced he was doing dry November (unheard of!!), which gave me the opportunity to get on the wagon too. Nothing like the 'chink chink' of ice in a G&T to break your resolve.

Have been doing the Jenny Craig Rapid Results thing for 10 days now and have lost over 3kgs. Not sure if it's the booze or the diet plan. It might be the fasting part that means you can't eat after 7pm.
As it's summer now and most of the JC stuff has to be heated to make it palatable, I'm thinking I'll do my own version next week ie. portion controlled protein and shit loads of salad.

Anyone else done JC? I'm not going to be able to do it long term as it's soooo boring. Were you able to switch to 'healthy' eating without piling it all back on? Any tips on replacements for the JC food? eg. the quick start bar? Cereal?

Bjarnum · 13/11/2021 23:13

Praguemum HI - I hadn't heard of the Jenny Craig diet so googoled it. You must have iron willpower- well done to lose 3kg. My weakness is the evenings - I can struggle through the day (sometimes!)but if I don't have most of the calories available in the evening I find dieting all but impossible. I'm doing Noom. Mostly. ...
@poorpaws OMG. Monday it is. Just to recap, in case anyone wants to join us. We will check in here every day for a week starting this Monday and doing our best to stick to the calorie count and exercise of our choice. Then weigh as normal the following Monday to report our progress.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/11/2021 23:32

@Praguemum I haven't done Jenny Craig either (although I think they used to sell the bars and meals in Boots many years ago?) - I guess from one point of view it's easier to just have everything delivered, but it can quite quickly add up to £££! Could you try something like Slimfast instead where it mixes their products with ordinary (but calorie counted) meals?

Glad you enjoyed my Expectation vs Reality @Bjarnum Grin I'm with you on scoffing tons of Christmas cake despite having the best intentions to only have a morsel! Here is another of me with Baileys another Christmas stumbling block:

Expectation: a small glass of Baileys with plenty of ice, sipped at leisure in front of a roaring fire
Reality: having said small glass, then deciding to have another. And another. And then some crisps Blush
(We don't even have an open fire!)

Glad you've had a lovely day @poorpaws! I've spent my time scoffing random bits of toast as these antibiotics turn my stomach into a bubbling pit of acid if I don't eat regularly. I looked at joining WW again for a bit of extra motivation but they've changed the plan yet again. I don't have the brainpower for this any more!
