Sorry @poorpaws, I know I've been quiet, DTS2 has been ill the past few days - not Covid (or at least all LFTs negative) but every so often his temperature goes haywire and he's shivering ferociously. DP is suffering with various joint pains and I'm worn out!

I think a new thread might be a good idea, I think sometimes people are put off joining a thread which has 500+ posts in case they can't catch up! I'll definitely be in again Grin

TalkToTheHand123 · 02/04/2022 09:30

It may be the posts not adding, if it's anything like what happens to me! Fed up of having to re-type.

1.5 stone off since Xmas day so back to weight before lockdown. Hopefully can keep going.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/04/2022 11:39

Well done on the 1.5st off @TalkToTheHand123!

Annoyingly MN never adds this to 'threads I'm on' either, so sometimes I forget to reply Angry

Hope you're having a better weekend than previously @poorpaws - weather isn't too bad here so I'm finishing off some potato planting. Talk about exciting weekends, eh?!

TalkToTheHand123 · 03/04/2022 11:56

Aw lol.

Seems I've put back on half a stone but hoping the scales will be kinder soon.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/04/2022 19:20

What a shame @TalkToTheHand123!

I had a health screening the other day, just had the results back. They are very depressing a good reminder than I need to work on my health Confused

poorpaws · 03/04/2022 22:06

Hi everyone

Just to let you know I will be missing for a few days and most definitely won’t be weighing. My rescue dog has been very very badly attacked. She’s been at the vets all day and we’re back again tomorrow morning. She’s had to have anaesthetic to flush out the wounds, it’s so very bad. I can’t even think about diets at the moment and have eaten so much chocolate tonight. I’ve been pacing all day while she’s been at the vets and I really am too tired to go into too much detail other than to let you know it couldn’t have been much worse.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/04/2022 22:58

@poorpaws - I'm so, so sorry to hear that and am sending lots of good wishes your way - your poor dog (and poor you!). What an awful thing to happen Sad

Completely understand that you need some time to deal with what's happened - please come back when you feel ready, Thanks for you in the meantime.

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/04/2022 19:36

Aww PP sorry to hear that. Hope things improve.

Ready for a little tipple tonight. Manic day. Ready for gym tomorrow though.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 07/04/2022 10:09

How did the gym go @TalkToTheHand123?

I have my first call today from my diabetes prevention course... I was feeling very positive about it but today I've come down with a bug or something! Shaky, shivery, aches and pains... it's not Covid (well, LFTs are still negative) so hopefully will go soon.

Sending you lots of positive thoughts still @poorpaws, please do come back if you feel able to Thanks

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/04/2022 20:48

Gym was ok, got there later than planned so not as much done as I would have liked. Hopefully get more time there tomorrow.

Aww hope you feel better soon and course goes well.

poorpaws · 13/04/2022 20:34

Thank you @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl and @TalkToTheHand123 for keeping this thread going in my absence.

It’s been the most terrible time and we’ve had to go to the vets daily as well as having to travel quite a way for her to have another anaesthetic to enable the vets to sew the large gaping wound up. I am happy to report she is doing very well now and raring to go after being in a great amount of pain. We’re at the vets in the morning but I’m just about positive it will be good news because she’s just doing so well. Another week to go and then she can have the stitches out.

Thank you all for your lovely words and kind thoughts but I think at last we are through the most difficult time.

It goes without saying that I have not stopped eating for the last week and a half and I haven’t been doing my usual dog walks because I’ve been staying at home with my attacked dog whilst my partner has been taking the other two out. So with a lot of eating, tons of snacks and chocolate and virtually no exercise I must’ve put a ton of weight on. It’s no good berating myself because I couldn’t help it so as soon as we are over the Easter holidays I’m going to knuckle down again and start from the beginning 🙈

I am back now and I really will start over again after Easter.

How is everyone doing? I guess it will be even quieter on here over the Easter holidays but perhaps after that we'll all do better.

@Clara how is it going with your DP? I hope there’s been some progress.

TalkToTheHand123 · 14/04/2022 00:45

Good to hear things are on the mend.

Off to sleep now so I can get a good session at the gym tomorrow. Weight not going down.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/04/2022 23:35

@poorpaws I do hope your lovely doggy is still on the road to recovery! Apologies for not replying sooner, I was away with work and then stayed on for a couple of days, but there was very little internet access. Will be joining you in the post-Easter restart!

How's it going at the gym @TalkToTheHand123?

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/04/2022 23:50

I would have liked more time there. Hopefully nothing to limit my time this week but no doubt something will.

I've been doing sit-ups at home. For some reason I can be motivated to do these but not the treadmil.

Bjarnum · 18/04/2022 12:24

Well, I think I am ready to slink back .... So far 2022 has not been much fun and I have made it worse by compulsively eating to excess with the result that I can't take the poor old dog for much of walk. Still today is day 1 of getting a grip - though I am aiming to stick with reducing my food intake and avoiding the scales (Really I just can't face it) I was horrified to read of @poorpaws. This is just my worst nightmare. Freya is such a silly dog but so full of love and confidence that she has no sense. I do hope the owner of the animal that savaged your poor pup is called to account. Even though the most Freya does is bark and at nearly 5 years she has never so much as growled at another dog I am always very vigilant - especially if we meet a small dog on our walks. My daughter's mil had her greyhound badly savaged by a loose alsatian. Dreadful. Pleased to hear everyone else seems to be keeping the faith - and do let me know if you switch threads! All the very best

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/04/2022 23:14

How lovely to hear from you @Bjarnum! I'm almost ready to get back on the weight loss wagon with you Grin DP had a real wake up call last week, the GP told him that unless he mends his ways he'll probably be dead within 10 years. Do you think that it stopped him eating loads of fry ups, burgers etc during the Easter weekend? Hmm

We've been out and about a lot in the last few days and saw some lovely dogs; obviously most of them were very friendly but I always tell the DC that they must ask the owner before petting a dog, because you just never know which dogs prefer not to be stroked. The vast majority of dog owners do keep their dogs away/ muzzled if they know they can snap - but sadly not all are sensible enough Sad

poorpaws · 19/04/2022 08:57

Yayyy @Bjarnum it’s so good to have you back. I think the few of us who are left here are ready to start again so I’m starting a new post today entitled DIET FAILED AGAIN? Me too. I’m hoping you’ll all come along to start again tomorrow morning and hopefully we’ll gain some new members.

My dog is at the vets today to have her stitches out. She is terrified when out on the lead by groups of people (3 or more) and every breed of dog. Also my already nervous collie who witnessed the attack barks at everything now. Coupled with the fact I daren’t go back to where the attack happened, my leisurely morning walks are a bloody nightmare.

Hopefully I’ll see you all on the new post and tomorrow we can re-start this diet plan. I am still not giving up.

gonelululemoncrazy · 19/04/2022 09:56

Hi @poorpaws, hope you are well. I too was planning to slink back in. I am now very much in the 'Diet Failed Again' team but am determined not to give up, so count me in.

Bjarnum · 19/04/2022 11:04

@poorpaws, @gonelululemoncrazy , @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl , .
@TalkToTheHand123 Good to see you all again - and onwards we go into the new thread - do post the link Paws please when you are ready to rumble. Someone recently told me that a yellow coat on a dog means it's snappy - don't know if that's true. Wish Tasers were legal - it would make encountering some massive mutt less stressful! How awful to have to change your walks. Luckily big dogs are rare round here and we can go for walks often without seeing another pooch. Without sounding too callous Clara, does your dp have life insurance? Does he know your DS is so worried? Wish I had some constructive advice ...

TurtlesAndTropicalFish · 19/04/2022 12:26

Can I join please? I have 1.5 stone to lose. I’m doing a quick weight loss diet till next Monday, then will be aiming for 2lb/week

Bjarnum · 20/04/2022 21:04

Hi TurtlesAndTropicalFish the thread has moved to
DIET FAILED AGAIN? Me too. Join me in a friendly, easy going diet thread where we can take our time and see results no matter how long it takes with positive encouragement along the way.
See you there!

poorpaws · 20/04/2022 21:40

Thank you @Bjarnum for pointing Turtles in the right direction. I am having a nightmare with my iPhone and iPad and I can’t get anything right with either of them.

See you over on the new thread which is so busy but as we know it won’t last 😁

poorpaws · 20/04/2022 21:59

Hi @gonelululemoncrazy and@Bjarnum glad you made it over to our new thread, didn’t want to lose you.

This new mumsnet layout is awful for me, my phone and iPad are doing my head in. I’m still here though, still not giving up (I’ve been saying that for sooo long now but it is true).

VonWeasel · 09/05/2022 19:48

Hello Everyone,

I haven't been on this thread in so long but hope you are well. I was thinking how nice and supportive it was and how daft I was to let things fall by the wayside. Working from home is bad. Would I be able to join you again on this journey? I was doing so well last summer but now I definitely have a bonus chin again. Or two. Horrific!
