@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I lol at what we discuss here, it’s so true. I get sidetracked by dogs and cake, it’s so much more interesting than weight loss 😀

Just done another very damp dog walk (see dogs AND steps) so 10,000 steps in the bag.

onemorerose · 19/10/2021 18:09

Ooh sounds good to me, I’ve 2 dogs so can get on board with dog chat 😃

professionalcockney · 19/10/2021 19:04

Lost another 1lb this week so down to 11st 10 🙌

poorpaws · 19/10/2021 21:42

@professionalcockney well done you, another pound never to be seen again.

@onemorerose ooh more dog chat, what breed/crossbreed are yours?

So I did a food shop this evening and just wasn’t in the mood. It was black outside and raining and I didn't really care what I bought, I just wanted to be home in the warmth. Every evening something seems to stop me doing a workout (well my poor excuse for a workout). Tomorrow night I have to bake again but it’s to give away on Thursday so I should be ok to not devour it all (like I did last week).

Hope everyone is having a good week.

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 20/10/2021 07:31

Well done @professionalcockney Smile

I know what you mean about the food shopping @poorpaws, I have to go quite late in the evenings (once the DC are finally asleep) and whilst it's good that it's quiet, I'm just shattered and want to be home rather than trekking round Tesco or wherever!

We love dogs here @onemorerose Grin I don't have any furry friends, maybe in a few years if I can cut my working hours down or win the lottery and retire - I would like to go on more regular walks though, a dog would definitely get me out of the house more often.

DP has reached new highs (lows?!) of laziness and is constantly moaning about the house being untidy. Whilst firmly parked on the sofa doing absolutely nothing Hmm

poorpaws · 20/10/2021 08:46

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. DP, Sofa, crowbar ?

It’s raining here AGAIN and I’m most likely going to get drenched on the dog walk AGAIN. Suppose I shouldn’t moan really because it’s the only way I can get all my steps done but I’m so fed up of getting wet through and having coats, waterproof leggings, dog coats all over the house dripping wet.

I did okay after the evening shop yesterday. I got home and was quite hungry as I often am on food shop night but I had some strawberries and low-fat yoghurt and went to bed early because I knew if I stayed up I was going to start searching the cupboards for food and I always manage to find something!

I hope everyone is doing ok. We could do with all of us seeing a good loss this week.

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 20/10/2021 10:55

@poorpaws the crowbar is SUCH a tempting suggestion Grin I was thinking of maybe investing in a cattle prod?!

I got drenched on the school run (walk) earlier. So depressing having to find drying space and then get wet again later!

Well done on your post shopping saintliness Halo If anyone has any very quick and easy diet-friendly recipes feel free to send them over, I definitely need some help...

onemorerose · 20/10/2021 15:34

Well done professional.

I’ve 2 miniature schnauzers. One is 9 and I recently got her granddaughter who is 4 months! They are so good and so cute, but I totally forgot the puppy stage and how much work it is. My older dog wouldn’t dream of setting foot outside if it’s raining so no wet dog walks for me.

I slipped up and drank wine last night, then ate 2 packets of crisps and some lovely cheese 🙈. It’s just reminded me of another reason why I shouldn’t drink!

poorpaws · 20/10/2021 19:45

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. I’m afraid I wasn’t so saintly tonight. I made some more Belgian chocolate oaty cookies to give to dog walking friends tomorrow and two of them just slipped into my mouth. I then made some white chocolate and raisin oaty cookies but so far I’ve refrained ... ahem so far. I’d like to know why every time I make anything to give to people they are NEVER as nice as when I make them for me. Last weeks were absolutely delicious, this weeks were meh!

@onemorerose I love schnauzers. We used to see a lady with two very old ones. Sadly one died in January and one in June (both were 15/16 I think). But now she’s got a puppy, oooh he’s delicious.

I’m struggling tonight, I’m really hungry and also stressed about these cookies (although I know the lovely ladies I've made them for will love them no matter what they look like). It might be yet another early night for me I think ☹️

Bjarnum · 20/10/2021 20:09

@onemorerose I feel your pain! Monday was fine - but Tuesday I had the wine, then the toasted cheese sandwiches, then more wine and more toasted cheese. I'm getting DH to put the rest of the wine in the loft where I can't get to it ... so far today has been ok .
Well done professionalcockney - if you have any spare willpower please send it my way!

poorpaws · 21/10/2021 08:34

@Bjarnum getting your DH to put the wine in the loft is such a good idea and reminded me of what I did some years ago.

I couldn’t stop eating chocolate, mountains of it and I was on one of my thousands of diets. I locked the chocolate in the wardrobe in the spare room but of course that didn’t work for long. I kept nipping in and taking some out and re-lockingk the wardrobe door. I didn’t know what to do as I was desperate to lose weight but just couldn’t resist. I ended up unscrewing the handle to the spare room door and taking the handle completely off! That worked ... for a while.

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 21/10/2021 13:12

@Bjarnum could your DH also put all of MIL's delicious shortbread in your loft, as it's currently sitting here begging me to eat it?!

Oooh lovely @onemorerose, a beautiful Schnauzer and her granddaughter (not that I envy you the puppy stage - I had enough with babies!). Feel free to post some photos though for us all to ooh and ahh over Smile

I went shopping last night @poorpaws. DP had been lazy as usual and I hadn't had chance to make my shopping list. I did get plenty of fruit & veg but also far too much chocolate fell into my trolley Blush

Bjarnum · 21/10/2021 22:38

clara I'll get DP to add the shortbread issue on to his "to do" list. He originally dieted to support me - now he is built like a whippet and I still look like a St Bernard. "paws* I'm impressed with your ingenuity. I wonder if anyone runs a business isolating dieters on an island with only really healthy food available - and then only after a twice daily extensive exercise class.

poorpaws · 22/10/2021 07:58

@Bjarnum I’ll get the wagon out quickly and we’ll all go find that island, I really need it this week, to say I’m struggling is a vast understatement. I blame the weather, it’s cold and miserable and I just want to eat.

I also desperately want to get into the 10 stones bracket (even at the top of it will do for now). I’ve been so near at 11st 0.3/4 and since then ive gone upwards instead of down. Again I blame the weather (and my gluttony 😳).

Hope you are all well and doing ok this week.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 22/10/2021 08:03

@Bjarnum I do love a St Bernard 😁

OP posts:
poorpaws · 22/10/2021 08:24

I think in the dog world I’d be a Labrador. They always seem to be fat (especially when they are older) because there is no food they won’t eat and they surf the worktops and steal food (just like me).

OP posts:
onemorerose · 22/10/2021 09:34

lol paws at taking the handle of the door 😂 I hosted a birthday for my dd last night and am left with mountains of junk food. Will have to keep some for any trick or treaters!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 22/10/2021 22:34

@Bjarnum a few years ago (pre DC) I was looking at one of those healthy retreats for a weekend away with a friend, we both wanted to lose a stone or so and thought it would be a great kick start. We never did it - combination of financial reasons and couldn't get our diaries to coordinate - but you can put me down for an extended stay on your island now please!

I usually buy Haribo and suchlike for trick or treaters @onemorerose, I don't really like those so am not tempted to snack on them pre-Halloween. If there was a box of Quality St or similar in the house they wouldn't make it to the 31st Blush

I'm reading Atomic Habits at the moment, only just started but it's interesting. Essentially it's saying that it's more effective to make very small changes and build up than to go all out to say "I'm going to lose 10 stone" or whatever - however most people then get bored before they see the effects of the small changes. I've started to notice my clothes getting tighter and really want to get back to my exercise routine, hopefully I'll be able to work out how...

@poorpaws I'm definitely a Bassett hound. Cute and sprightly when younger, now tubby with massive jowls and a tummy that hangs towards the ground Grin

poorpaws · 23/10/2021 13:16

OMG we’ve just returning from a dog walk when chef neighbour was waiting outside her house for us with a tin! Home made meat and potato pie (huge pieces). I didn’t even take my coat off before I dived headfirst into it. She’s just put a lemon meringue pie in the oven! I’m afraid the diet is definitely out of the window (round the corner and right down the road) this week.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl you made me laugh with your basset hound analogy, I can see you right now, tummy hanging down 🤣

Not a good week for me I’m afraid.

OP posts:
onemorerose · 23/10/2021 13:56

Definitely not a good week for me either. I missed the class I was planning to go to this morning in favour of a lie in. Ive munched out the past couple of days. But I’m going to go walk the dogs now. The problem is the puppy, she can’t really go on big long walks yet..

Sagaris · 23/10/2021 14:29

What a lovely thread! Can I join please? My weight crept up over lockdown, I was already overweight though (extra stone added to another 2-3 that could be shifted). I lost a stone in 5 months (I have a painful knee problem which I had a referral for but was conveniently lost during COVID) and then got shingles - I've never felt so ill in my life, and of course, all thoughts of losing weight went out of the window. Family wedding next week so I'm back on the case soon - I hope to be a loser again! Smile

poorpaws · 23/10/2021 21:15

Hi @Sagaris welcome to our little group, we actually talk about losing weight more than actually doing it. We are a friendly lot though so jump on our wagon. Weigh in Monday morning good for you?

So what a bloomin day! I’ve eaten sooooo much I feel like a huge failure, but I did enjoy it I can’t tell you anything different. I think I’ve been trying so hard since the beginning of June and I’ve just spectacularly failed today. Try again on Monday I suppose, we’ll no one re-starts a diet on Sunday do they?

It’s our mini goal deadline on Monday morning and I’ve failed again (I had such a small goal I thought it would be impossible to fail 😳).

OP posts:
Sagaris · 24/10/2021 08:22

@poorpaws, thank you for the welcome! I'm away until Wednesday but can join in the following Monday? Think I've put on a few post shingles pounds..... Grin

poorpaws · 24/10/2021 09:17

@Sagaris that’s great we’ll see you the following Monday.

I had shingles about three years ago, they just came out of the blue. I was walking around a garden centre and I said to my partner that I’d got an itchy side, next thing covered in spots/blisters, they are nasty and took ages to go. I did lose weight though as I felt rotten (put it back on immediately of course - there’s a definite theme to my dieting success/failure). Have a lovely time whilst you’re away and we’ll start nailing this diet in November (when I’ve got a birthday so that’ll be a difficult one).

Bjarnum · 24/10/2021 18:51

I decided to make fudge for Halloween. It did not go very well - I think my sugar thermometer is a bit out. Anyway, I now have sludge. Which, of course, I ate. Not looking forward to tomorrow ... clara I always wanted a Basset Hound! paws Meat and potato pie - marvellous stuff. rose the wagon is getting more and more crowded - shall we all make a superhuman effort next week? My youngest son is getting married in January and I look like a sack of melons in my dress. I must get a grip. Welcome sagaris
